When Johnnie Taylor recorded Eargasm, he was coming off a distinguished soul career at Stax, and disco seemed like alien territory to his rough, gospel-trained voice. But aided by longtime producer Don Davis (who gets most of the writing credits here) and the nuanced ka-bump of backing musicians borrowed from Funkadelic, he scored the first platinum-certified single, "Disco Lady." The rest of the disc is basically a full-on Southern-soul record--Taylor smoldering and preaching on the subject of how to treat a woman and the rhythm section doing an Al Green pitty-pat, gently bumping blues about devotion and jealousy--with kitschy disco strings grafted on and the occasional keyboard squiggle livening things up. --Douglas Wolk

this was another of johnnie taylor greatest he had the beat in with disco lady which was awesome, then he kind of laid back with please don't stop,running out of lies, somebody's gettin it,to put all together the man is just tough and he knew it that's what i liked about him.he have the voice,looks, dollars, and sense and knew just what to do with it. bottom line is i just love me some johnnie taylor.......whatever he sings

Johnnie Taylor was one of the last of the soul greats. Eargasm found him at his commercial peak. "Disco Lady" was the hit, a concession to the formula of the day. But buried deep in this set were two of his greatest sides. "Running Out Of Lies" and "Pick Up The Pieces" are very much in the Stax/Volt mold. Heavy blues, the kind you don't get to hear much of anymore. Taylor would go on to make some very good cd's, but stick with this one. essential.

If you're a fan of breakbeat, this is a must-have album. The Plump DJs continue to impress with this appropriately titled cd! A non-stop body pumping collection you'll want to listen to again and again (and again and again...)

This CD is hands down one of the best breaks CD's I've ever heard...period! It's almost an hour and a quarter long and I listened to it twice through the first time out, just cranked up the volume and let it wash over me...definitely eargasm material! WOW!!!

I expected a usual breaks cd you know, but I popped it in and it kind of just takes you on a ride. One of the coolest albums ive heard in awhile, really creative, and just crazy! Dont think about it, just pick it up, if your into breaks and havent heard this yet your deprived big time.
