Two CD set from Arlester "Dyke" Christian and his band the Blazers, who are second only to James Brown as trailblazing avatars of Funk. We Got More Soul - The Ultimate Broadway Funk is the ultimate collection of this consummate black artist. The complete Dyke & The Blazers recordings 1966-70 - a whopping two and a half hours worth of steaming grooves - have been liberated from previously locked vaults, all presented here from the master tapes. The original released versions of most Dyke & The Blazers material were edited down from lengthy jams, with Dyke riding the groove in his own inimitable manner. Meticulous tape research means we are now able to hear for the first time the full length unedited, unexpurgated takes, exactly as they were run down live in the studio. Classic items including 'Let A Woman Be A Woman', 'Stuff', 'Funky Walk', 'Funky Bull' and 'Runaway People' are sometimes twice as long as originally presented. Additionally there are a staggering fourteen unissued titles, ranging from downhome R&B grooves such as 'Swamp Walk' and 'Extra Funk', to dead-on-the-one funk workouts like 'Booga Jivin'' and 'Let's Do It Together', that really should have been released. 51 tracks. The Complete Dyke and the Blazers Recordings 1966-70 - a Whopping Two and a Half Hours Worth of Steaming Grooves - have Been Liberated from Previously Locked Vaults, all Presented Here from the Master Tapes. The Double CD Set is Neatly Divided Between Dyke's Sojourn in Phoenix with the Original Hit-making Line-up of the Blazers, and his Later Sessions Recorded in Hollywood, When the Singer's Sidemen were the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band.

First I want to thank to all who made this compilation alive. It's great effort. This double disc compilation contains all songs that Dyke and his both groups put on tapes in 66-71. In the past, few compilations was here, but not in this superb package and with so good liner notes. Heartful liner notes describes each musicians session individually. If you didn't know everything about his death, after reading liner notes you will know it well.
The music is absolutely extraordinary and the sound of this record is superior. Phoenix period gives more space for drummer and excelent Dyke's guitarist. This is absolutely musthave for all funkydrummer beginners. All previously unreleased songs are really treasures, especially both parts of "Funky broadway time" - that's funk gem. Nice interplays between bass, guitar and drumming.
In the Hollywood period Dyke joined musicians from 103rd street rhythm band and it's guarantee of quality alone. But surprisingly it's Dyke who's in the front of the crew. He has all songs absolutely under control and his vocals are more vary and powerfull. "We got more soul" has really strong message, in "Black Boy" i can't believe it was never released before. And "It's your thing" cover is better than original.
Thank all people for releasing this beautiful anthology, and remind me the times when funk was born. (excuse me for my poor english)

The funk master of the 60s Dyke & the Blazers bring us the original rhythmic and groovy funk from their jam sessions which made their sound looser and rougher than that of JB. The re-issue men have put a greater effort on his two-disc compilation than their other bests : reviving their full-length versions which were originally cut as singles with two parts, unissued tunes, many precise informations, heartful liner notes and many photos. This treatment is well worth the value of this overlooked group hidden behind the history.

          'We got the funk' was a club anthem back in 1979-1980 session. It peaked #18 on British pop Charts during the autumn '79. During those years they were very popular with this killer hit. By 1981 they quickly faded away from the scene. Very underrated group could have done more, despite Sugarhill released their compliation in 2000. It's available on every music store. Let's get the funk together!

          Positive Force's shinning moment is their famous "We Got The Funk",a wonderful slice of funk classism during the musically conflicted early 1980's.There is one little problem with most of the material here-while Positive Force prove themselfs very musically compedant and inventive there is not much on these 14 selections that give any serious indication as to the memorability of any of their music.This can be a common fault of some funk bands more into grooves as apposed to songs.And grooves are Positive Force's stock in trade.
          There are two standouts here other then their hit-a highly electronic cover of "It's A Shame" and the like-minded
          "Ready For Your Love"-an inventive song with (sadly) little more then call and responce lyrics.The last three tunes are ballads or "slow jams" that in such funky company (as usual for compilations of this kind) really get on my nerves.Bands like these don't tend to do slow stuff well and Positive Force appear to be no exception.If you can get this compilation cheaply do so-it's more then worthwhile for hardcore funk fans or DJ's remixing old music.But if you want better funk from this era stick with The Brothers Johnson,Heatwave,Con Funk Shun or other bands who are far better composers and songwriters.
