Product Description

Heavy Metal or Heavy Mellow? What if Slash, Kirk Hammet, or Richie Sambora learned the piano instead of guitar? It would have sounded something like this... Pianist Scott D. Davis reveals his rock roots with his latest CD "Rockfluence", performing some of his favorite rock songs, guitar solos and all, with nothing but a solo grand piano. Includes songs originally recorded by Guns 'N' Roses, The Eagles, Evanescence, Metallica, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, Bon Jovi, Journey, Europe, Billy Idol, and one Scott D. Davis original.

5 out of 5 stars ROCKFLUENCE IS PURE PERFECTION.......2007-08-03

Rockfluence is pure perfection! Some of my favorite rock classics, done with such style and beauty. Perfect when you are in a mellow mood, you can still listen to some rock favorites, but be soothed and relaxed beyond words.
My Immortal is my favorite, a little piece of heaven! Thanks so much Scott, for sharing your remarkable,God given talent!
Warning: some songs my bring on an accute case of goosebumps!

5 out of 5 stars A Perfect Blend of Piano Solo and Rock-N-Roll.......2006-06-30

Scott's music is soothing as well as entertaining, emotional as well as inspiring, gentle as well as invigorating. You have to listen to it to catch the blend and beauty of his work.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2006-02-20

I just purchased this CD today, and song after song I just smile and think "this is so beautiful", and it's mostly original hard rock songs, it's like an oxymoron but it is wonderful. My 7 year old daughter doesn't know the songs originally, and she kept saying how the songs were bringing tears to her eyes. I got this CD after hearing him at the Galleria Mall in Roseville, Ca. because it was so awe inspiring as he played. I wanted to share it with my family, especially my 5 year old who can play music on the piano from ear, which aparently is how Scott started playing himself, and I wanted his music to be an influence to her. He is a true inspiration. Thank you, Scott, for sharing your talent with us.

5 out of 5 stars from Solo Piano Publications.......2006-02-07

Pianist/composer Scott D. Davis has been referred to as "the rocker of new age/contemporary classical music" for a couple of years now. When fellow pianist/composer David Nevue introduced Davis as such at a Whisperings Solo Piano Radio concert something resonated within him. He had been urged for years to record an album of recognizable cover music, but he resisted, preferring to record his own original material. Somehow, Nevue's introduction freed Davis to return to the music that helped shape his energetic performing style and to create solo piano arrangements of some of his favorites. It's a wide-ranging collection spanning thirty-two years of rock and metal music from 1971's "Stairway to Heaven" (Led Zeppelin) to 2003's "My Immortal" (Evanescence). Davis stays true to the spirit of the originals, and yet makes them his own. Actually, there is one piece on the album that is newer than 2003 - Davis' own "Scherzo." Most of the twelve tracks are intense and rather dark - no bubble-gum teeny-bopper stuff here - so it's obviously geared for a more mature audience. Even though I can remember just some of the words to the oldies that I grew up with and wasn't familiar with the more recent hits, I thoroughly enjoy this album. There should be at least one song here that just about anyone can say, "Oooh! I love that song!"

"Rockfluence" opens with "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses, a song full of rock-style tenderness and love. "Hotel California" is given a full almost-eight minute treatment that is very true to the original. "My Immortal" by Evanescence is a quieter slow-dance ballad that Davis fills with passion. "Nothing Else Matters" from Metallica is dark and very intense - a beautiful arrangement! I couldn't quite imagine "Stairway to Heaven" as a piano solo, but it works well! I really like the mystery and drive of "Wanted Dead or Alive" from Bon Jovi. "Open Arms" from Journey is one of my favorite songs from the early `80's, and Davis keeps it warm and loving - also a great arrangement! Another favorite is Europe's "The Final Countdown," a powerful, emotionally charged song with a gorgeous melody. Billy Idol's "White Wedding" really rocks, leading up to the closing track, Davis' own "Scherzo," a musical term that means "joke." I first heard this impressive piece in a live setting, and it really makes people sit up and take notice! Davis' fingers fly all over the piano with the various themes of the piece, which range from slow and almost sedate to a wild and crazy romp that makes me think of chase scenes in old movies. "Scherzo" clearly demonstrates Scott Davis' playing chops as well as his musical sense of humor. Fun!

"Rockfluence" is truly a musical good time, showing what these rock classics sound like stripped down to one instrument and no vocals. Good stuff!

5 out of 5 stars wheatland's graduation song.......2000-11-09

At my old school, all my friends were seniors and at graduation they played the song "Arms Wide Open" and it was one of the saddest days of my life. Now everytime i hear that song it makes me cry because of all the sentimetal value it had on me. When i listen to songs i licten yo more then the beat i listen to the words and the heart and soal of the song. And i know that that song is about a kid being dorn but i has the same effect. I love creed and i think they are the best band i have heard of in a while.

5 out of 5 stars Creed's Sophmore Album is No Flop.......2000-11-06

For all those die-hard Creed fans, Human Clay was no dissapointment. And for those new to Creed's Christian Alternative sound, they got what they paid for. With songs like "Higher" and "With Arms Wide Open", Creed has made a powerful come back. This new CD single of 3 different versions of "With Arms Wide Open" gives the Creed lover a taste of 3 different ways to listen to the same song. The acoustic version offers a tear-jerking melody that expresses not only Scott Strapp's love for music, but for the love of his son. Any Creed fan should definetly add this to their collection.

5 out of 5 stars ~CREED~ ROCKS!.......2000-11-04

When I heard they made 3 different versions of this wondderful song, I knew I had to have it! It's the BEST song on the album. Scott Stapp has a voice that makes you drift off into your own little world! The whole band is so AWESOME! They really ARE FANTASTIC! Better yet Scott is donating proceeds from the sale of this 3 version song to help families and parents, how wonderful is that!? This song is indeed one that touches you, especially if you are a parent. The lyrics are so deep, as well as the other lyrics/songs on their album. I can't say enough about this song and their album...JUST GET IT! You wont regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Creed is the Best!.......2000-10-26

Ever since I saw the first Creed CD on the shelf and I picked it up I've loved their music. You should really listen to the lyrics not just the music. "Higher" is a powerful song. I love all their music. Especially "higher" and " Arms wide open". Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Arms Wide Open-CD Single.......2000-10-26

This is awesome! It has the two versions of Arms Wide Open, plus the BONUS FEATURE: The Arms Wide Open music vide, which was #1 this past week. So that's about it!

If you're a self-proclaimed spud, try out these guys. I saw them in Chicago, and despite the reoccuring feeling of deja-vu-haven't-I-seen-this-in-a-dubbed-and-redubbed-bootleg-video-of-DEVO-back-in-the-day, I still really liked them. A little surf, a lot of quirk, and a nerdy looking convulsing guy with glasses on the organ.

5 out of 5 stars Ah, the voice! the energy!.......2000-05-29

Inimitable! Economical, it partakes of the divine.

True genius: it's about so much more than breathlessly stringing phrases together in a facile attempt to dazzle. It's completely unselfconscious.

And it's about so much more than the cynical glorification of substance abuse. (Whoa, dude! you did so many bad drugs--and all at the same time!)

    Viva Causey.

    Inimitable!

    Economical; partakes of the divine.

True genius. It's about so much more than verbosity, stringing words together, and facile attempts to impress. It's completely unselfconscious.

And it's certainly about much more than the cynical glorification of substance abuse.

    Highly recommended.

...the nasty reptilian burn down the sinuses and back of the throat that came with snorting crystalmeth cut with strych, aspirin, baby-lax and Lord knows what else back in those evil days not as many years ago as I wish... The same malicious synth-drive as Chrome and Six Finger Satellite at their most nefarious moments, and then Lordamighty that voice. Successfully replicates the experience of doing bad drugs with a revival minister suffering the pre-epileptic shoogaloos of amphetameanie-psychosis after several comprehensive ECT sessions in the Solitary ward at Parchman Farm in preparation for a public encounter with the chair. Not even Jeffrey Lee Pierce ever got this bad. If you get your jollies off by driving around in heavy traffic imagining running pedestrians down, this rates just beneath the Stooges for the soundtrack to your sickheaded little fantasies. ELECTRICITY!

    5 out of 5 stars Praise Causey!.......2000-02-07

This transcends both synthpop and hardcore. Causey's voice is one of the most unique and spectacular singing voices I've ever heard, that I am sure of! The music varies from pseudo-evil synth to hardcore rock, mixed with Causey's trademark wail and the silky-hot bassist's moaning. *ooohh shudder!* I recommend the CD, but I further recommend attending one of Causey's services. Only in this way can the true light of Causey's love flow through you. Praise Causey!

4 out of 5 stars A bargain collection of showtunes.......2005-08-19

This bargain collection of showtunes is highlighted by the composition of Kurt Weill and the uniquely rolling tongue of Colette Lyons. I have a complaint about this compilation. It includes "Ol' Man River", but it excludes Al Jolson's rendition of "Ol' Man River." Otherwise, this collection gives you ample bang for your buck.
