Album Description

Joss Whedon, the writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, "Serenity."

The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family--squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. When Mal takes on two new passengers--a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister --he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board Serenity herself. This action/adventure/Sci-Fi/western features an eclectic score by composer David Newman.

like some other folks here, i agree that there are some really wonderful moments on this soundtrack, with about 9 of the 23 tracks going from great to beautiful. trouble is, they are pretty short, too short in several instances. the 'action' music, which comprises about 50% of the soundtrack, is less appealing, at least away from the context of actually seeing the film. i actually prefer david newman's music here to serenity more than gregg edmonson's music to firefly. newman has a much bigger budget, and so can use much more varied and interesting instrumentation, and writes more intense compositions. some of the themes he comes up with, notably the main serenity theme and river's haunting theme, are beautiful. since this cd can be had fairly cheaply, whether from amazon or as a digital download from emusic or itunes, it is well worth purchasing.

A good listen, but could have been even better.......2007-07-20

I hate to withhold a fifth star from the "Serenity" soundtrack, as I loved the film and the "Firefly" series as well, but I couldn't help but be somewhat disappointed with it.

The film's musical highlights are all represented here, and if that's all you're looking for then you should be quite satisfied with this disk. Personally, however, I think it could have been better. My main complaint is that some of the best tracks, such as 3 - Serenity (:50), and 20 - Funeral/Rebuilding Serenity (2:19), are far too short. Granted, they are taken directly from the film, but it would have been great if they had been expanded upon for the soundtrack. Also, the listener gets short-changed on the End Credits music, as, for some reason, they cut out the acoustic guitar "Firefly" theme that you hear at the very end of the film.

So purchase and enjoy, by all means; but, if you're like me, you may feel that some of these tracks tease more than they satisfy. It's my hope that we may someday get a disc of expanded themes from both the film and the series.

Great Soundtrack.......2007-07-16

The soundtrack to the movie is wonderfully done. It captures the movie well and is a nice addition to any collection. David Newman did a superb job in creating this soundtrack.

I would have preferred a score written by Greg Edmonson, the composer of the TV series music, but this one is also very well done. It doesn't tell the story quite as well as the TV series music, but it is still good. The TV series music seemed more down to earth and told the stories of the characters in the series. This CD sounds more classical and movie-ish.

I enjoy the CD but there's some specific music missing. In the track for the closing credits there's some acoustic guitar that's on the DVD but not on the CD.

Otherwise a good listen if you're into movie soundtracks.

This album is one among many from Liquid Mind. The music and sounds are incredibly subtle in background as they create a foundation upon which one can focus for meditations and healing. The chords and instrumentation are soothing, joyful, and flowing. This music is just the type of "white noise" necessary to create a peaceful atmosphere in which to enhance medidating and/or doing spiritual work of any kind.

I have had this album for a while now and find it one of the bset for getting off this bumpy ride we are all on called life. It is also wonderful for massage. My massage therapist loves it too. If you love warm and fuzzy places, this album will help get you there.

Another great CD from the talents of Chuck Wild. Be it for relaxation,
meditaion or setting a mood, the collection of Liquid Mind is truely worth a listen. No matter what your pleasure, you'll find something to love. Very sensual and at times erotic. A true believer must have this one. The music is unbelieveably soothing and will take you on a journey to inner piece. Chuck is a talented man who knows how to make magic with electronic music.

Calming Peace.......2006-11-03

I take care of children all day, and so I begin each day with my cup of tea and this or one of the Liquid Mind CDs. It calms me and my thoughts and helps me get in touch with my inner spirit. It's a great way to begin the day! I also play this during the day while the children are here. It helps calm children, and provides a peaceful atmosphere.

UNHAPPY LISTENER.......2006-08-07

When I purchasesd this CD judging from the cover and name: Liquid Mind V:Serenity, I thought I would be getting a relaxing collection of music, probably suitable for an infant to hear. What a mistake I made! This CD was totally disappointing. There really were no 'songs', and what sounds were emitted were barren and not pleasing to the ear.

I bought this album on vinyl more years ago than I care to remember. These are all great tunes, improved by Coulter's instrumentation and production. Lovely.

Played for the first time after a heavy snow while following a stream on a tree shrouded country road. Will never forget that soul soothing experience.

Coulter's music immediately spoke to me, and 'Serenity' is the 3-generation favorite of the Coulter CDs I own (with 5 more on order). Our tastes differ, but 'Meditation' sooths me, 'The Bells of Angelus' readily moves me to a different realm, and 'Bring Flowers of the Fairest' is an elderly aunt's top pick. The youngest generation is as quick to play this CD as they are to select rock, ballads or their other favorite music. Coulter is a past, present and future artist who creatively crosses boundaries with music and spirit. Try to tire of this selection. I'm betting you cannot. While awaiting arrival of the new CDs, 'Any Dream Will Do.'

Wonderful relaxing music.......2003-05-31

This is one of my favorites! I bought the cassette after hearing it in a small shop in Gatlinburg, TN. The music was simply so relaxing and peaceful. Later I bought the CD so I could have a copy for home and car. During a hectic day when I have too much housework to do, I put in the CD and allow the music to wash away some of the stress.

I have fibromyalgia and have a very difficult time sleeping. I put "Serenity" on and listen with my earphones. It gently rocks me to sleep. A must have for relaxation!

This is one of my regulars in my CD player. I live on a student's income and don't have the funds to create a fancy surround sound meditation room but this album helps create a serene environment even out of my small CD player. If you fall in love with this album (which I'm sure you will) check out another favorite of mine by the Gordon Brothers, Soothing Sanctuary

Very Dull.......2007-02-21

I think I am being generous with one star here.
David and Steve excel in some genres but should stay away from pure environmental efforts. The waterfall/stream sounds on this CD are loud, harsh, and overdone. The sounds are monotonous and just go on and on and on until you just can't stand it anymore. I have a fair number of music/nature compilations so I know what I'm talking about...this one becomes just plain annoying after a while. There is nothing soothing or serene about it at all.
If you are looking for the absolute best quality nature recordings blended with music, seek out any of Dan Gibson's work and go no further.

Best CD I've found for getting to sleep.......2006-06-16

I have purchased about a half dozen relaxing/meditative CDs, have a clock with "relaxing sounds", and listened to many more CDs. However, Garden of Serenity is the ONLY music I've found which calms my mind at the end of the day and sends me off into a quick, peaceful sleep. It's almost pavlovian - I hear the first four notes and I'm instantly relaxed. I highly recommend this as a sleep aid.

As a massage therapist I was a little worried about buying this because one reviewer was annoyed by the chimes - but they aren't really annoying in the least. I not only use this for my own clients, but I will put it on for myself when I receive one. I'm going for Volume II.

My tri yoga instructor uses this in our sessions. It allows you to breathe with the music at your own pace and is conducive to working toward slower, fuller breaths. The music is very tranquil.

A lovely mix.......2007-07-20

Unlike the other reviewer, I think this is a beautiful album. In fact I bought 3, one for myself and two as gifts for friends. The selections are pop genre, but popularized as vocals. Some of us like instrumentals, and these are just as gorgeous as such in Coulter's style, and the very essence of serenity. In the year and a half I have had this CD I have listened to it hundreds of times and enjoyed them all.

Country Serenity.......2007-05-07

I have nearly all of Phil Coulter's CD's and I love them all. I could always tell from the titles of the CD's what kind of music they would contain. With Country Serenity, however, this was not the case. There are only about 3 songs I would consider country, maybe not even that many. I wasn't looking for twangy country western stuff, because I know Coulter is very conservative and right on in his choices but most of them seemed to come from the pop genre, which I would never buy. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

David and Steve Gordon have converged the art of creativity, e.g. musical spirit, with Nature's sounds of life in this phenomenally peaceful collection of sound. Their skill has remained colorfully competent, bringing the listener into the cool forest of notes, gurgles and chirps. Highly recommended.

This CD is a must for those who crave "environmental music"........1999-01-08

I bought the cassette tape verison of this work several years ago. I wanted to have some background music for at home activities such as: drawing, reading, and meditation.

I own about 30 other CDs and tapes of this kind of music. Misty Forest Morning is by far the best of the lot.

This very calming mix of flute, guitar, and water sounds will propel you instantly into a theta state.

Don't leave your body without it!

There is something so incredibly soothing about this record. I am a fan of this type of music, but also really picky as well. This album is now one of my all time favorites, I am going to be looking for more music from this record label. Perfect to just kick up the feet, have some good friends over and relax.

I just bought this album, and I Love it!! It is wonderful to listen to during my morning coffee, or for any other time that I want to unwind. The first track by Nicholas Gunn, of whom I'm am a Huge fan, is wonderful. And I also love the third track by Mars Lasar. These are my favorites, but every song on this compilation is beautiful!!

Just plain great to listen to...........2006-09-27

Even with the year old classics like Mal's Song and the Ballad of Joss, which bring back great memories of Firefly and Serenity, I believe the power of this soundtrack lies in its instrumental tracks. I was moved to buy this after watching the documentary. But from folk to ballad to whimsical, this is a great soundtrack to listen to regardless if you want Firefly music or just good music.
