Steven is a keyboardist and guitarist whos' extensive touring credits and eclectic musical background have helped pave the way for his self expression. Stints playing multiple styles from jazz, to pop, to country and classical lay the foundation for his craft. This helps create an intimate blend of both organic and synthetic instrumentation that brings a fresh emotive experience to the listener.

Seamless: [adj] perfectly consistent and coherent. There are times when music just flows. At the heart of this project was the desire to stay true to this flow, to allow the music to take its own course and move seamlessly from one theme to the next. Even though at times the number of tracks go well over one hundred, the instumentation remains familiar throughout helping to keep the albums mood changes as fluid as possible. In the artists' own words: This albums' approach to music composition may not be the most commercially viable (I don't know of many 15 minute songs that ever get airplay), but I have always believed in the value of being allowed to express things in this free flowing way. It may have been self indulgent to allow myself this structural freedom, but through this approach I feel like I was able to paint pictures of places within that I could not tell you about and be nearly as accurate.

Why the change in Style????.......2007-07-07

I like so much most of the other titles of the collection, more soulful huse and stuff, but this one is one of the worse compliation i ever bought. It has nothing to compare with the others, so make sure you check the titles and don't trust bargrooves for always being what you think it is.

Bargrooves moving to techier house.......2007-06-14

What a positive surprise to see Bargrooves and Ben Sowton moving to this direction. I love the whole serie with nice packages and a good content with soulful house, but many of them (like Influences by Jay Hannan)are a little bit too slow to get me uplifted feeling. Of course there are Bargrooves Black with more deeper sound of house. However, Bargrooves Spring Collection are a move to totally new direction.

I actually have searched for a good tech house collection for a while and now I got it from Seamless Records. I was also surprised that this is mixed by Andy Caldwell. After purchasing his newest effort, Universal Truth, which sure are good album but have nothing to do with house, I was sure he had moved to another direction in his career. But here he are with maybe his tightest mix ever.

There are no need to skip any tracks on this mix. CD 1 are probably a bit techier. In my opinion it's highlight is The Timewriters Reachin' Out(Dave Spoon Mix). CD 2 starts with superb Sun Goes Down from Sven Van Hees and moves from James Flavours Ride to sweet-sounding Turning by Cloud. I also liked a lot of a bit spooky-sounding Campfire Stories by Johan Ilves.

If you are after chilling (like Hed Kandi's Beach House), danceable (like Disco Kandi) or a more traditional Bargrooves-sound with softer house mixes this is not for you. But if you like techier and more serious house, this is worth to check!

This is the first in the next quartet of Bargrooves releases, this time brought together under the theme of influences. These releases showcase those DJ's and producers who have had a real influence on the Bargrooves sound, and also those who were themselves an influence on the creation of the Bargrooves series. Excellent set. Look for the 3-disc version though........2006-07-13

This is a great set. I really can't stress that enough. Generally speaking, if it's from Bargrooves, you really can't go wrong in the first place. Second, if it's got Jay Hannan with it, even better. Deep, pulsing, smooth, flowing, sexy. It's got it all. Everything you've come to expect. Very Hed Kandi circa the heyday of Mark Doyle, very Naked Music, very Petalpusher aka Miguel Migs. Beautiful, beautiful stuff.

Correction needs to be made here however. I guess the editorial reviewer above had Lazy Dog on the mind, but the "Ben" of Disc One is NOT Ben Watt. It's Ben Sowton of many, many, many Bargrooves series. He is, hands-down, amazing as well. If Ben Watt sees fit to go off and BUZZ about with flies (something I actually love by the way...his series that is), then you can't do any better then getting this Ben to take his place (if you're limiting yourself to Ben's that is).

At any rate, get this and quit thinking about it. I picked up the 3 disc version about the time of the WMC here in South Beach. It's gotten continual play ever since, pleasing all who have heard it. You'll enjoy it immensely as well if you dig the kind of vibe this caters to at all.

Bargrooves the best!.......2007-01-10

After going around trying to find "cool" music, I tried Magenta, one of the best if not, the real best of the bargooves colection. All beats are just sincerely outstanding. Both CD's are more than worhty to own. You wont be dissapointed on playing all these all along. Keep the good job Bargrooves folks! this is inspirational, relaxing and energetic at the same time! Very cool!

Great cd!!!!!.......2006-09-07

I have most of the Bargrooves series. You can't go wrong if it's bargrooves!!!! I will say say this is a great CD set. I actually listened and let every song play in my car the other day. This album is Funky and one the best bargrooves CDs I have heard. I have to single out "Magic touch" on the first cd as my favorite song right now. Each song is really tight!!! I did not give it 5 stars because each time I listen I find something new. If you like the Bargrooves series also check out MIGUEL MIGS and JAY-J. BEN SOWTON and the other two guys I just mentioned are on top of the house scene right now. I don't see these guys falling off anytime soon.

Once again the House Masters at Seamless Recordings have done it again. This album is bangin'. How many colors (or should I say colours)of the rainbow are there? Keep em comin' Brits. If you love cool melodic soundz of deep house--this album is a must have. For fans of the Bargrooves series--this album is definitely a must have. I can't wait for Bargrooves: Black--but I guess I gotta. Lucky for me I got at least 7 other bargrooves albums to hold me over until the US album release. Peace!!!

this release is ok..but not that deep and sophisticated like all other Bargrooves ..but still jazzy ,funky house music ..HOUSE MUSIC LIVES ! Now I got all Bargrooves !!

can't be perfect all the time.......2006-07-14

this almost seemed like both cds were just phoned in comparison to all the other 5-6 bargrooves i have.. most of the songs sound the same without any memorable hooks.. it also sounds like it lacks studio musicians (keyboards and bass players) that seem so prevalent in the other releases.. this release sounds like it was all made on an electric machine with voice overs.. it's still ok, but bargrooves has set the standard so high, it's hard to believe they even cared that much about this release..

Sweet and Sour.......2007-03-09

This volume of Bargrooves, a series that promises to offer nothing more than a soundtrack for flirtin' and sippin', starts off excellently with Couch's ambiently funky "Across the World." The rest of disc one is a line-up of adequately groovy house ("Esplendor" and "Hold On" being the stand-outs), some wily electric jazz ("Cuban Blues"), and even a little techno-tinted electronica ("Body Resonance" and "Insomnia"). Everything is undergirded by the standard four-time beat, the swollen spine of forward-moving bass.

The set regresses in the last third or so, however, when it relies on several cheesy R&B numbers that are mixed with only a hint of the house-groove found on the rest of the records. Don't get me wrong; there's nothing wrong with R&B when it's done well. However, much of whats found here is just goofy. Consider "Rockstone" (with its nutty chorus), "Runaway Love" (a diva ditty that's so poppy and gangly it sticks out in this line-up like a pickle in a bowl of ice cream), and "Change the World" (a ridiculous anthem about how "one man can't change the world" -- I guess Dennis Ferrer has never heard of Martin Luther King, Jr., or Gahndi, or Jesus -- that's far too self-righteous for its shoddy and predictable harmonies).

While these later segments end up pushing away the idea of ambience (or even grooviness) the rest of the record works valiantly to make up for it. It's not a complete success, but it does well enough. A little surgery and some artful stitching, and this would be a stellar album.

The twelve songs on "Welcome Home" show Four Star Mary flexing the crowd pleasing songcraft that has proven the hallmark of this hard-touring ensemble. Ranging from the hollow, acoustic tones of "Stars Come Down" to upbeat "Darker Days," this album shows FSM covering all their bases with both power and polish. "Welcome Home" shows FSM at their finest. Four Star Mary may be only heard by a select few, but their sound is undeniably huge.

Well worth the long wait.......2003-10-07

I purchased Thrown to the Wolves (TttW) over two years ago and it was an instant favorite. Since then, despite the fact that I only owned one full length Four Star Mary (FSM) CD, they have been one of my favorite bands. I had been out of the FSM news loop and had all but given up on them releasing another full length album when much to my surprise (and delight), I discovered that they had finally done so. So I ordered Welcome Home (WH) (and Marlene, which is excellent).

My first reaction was that it was a very good CD. However, I originally missed the rawer sound found on TttW, but then I started to become accustomed to WH's sound, and now I love WH. I was very surprised by how rich and complex many of the songs on WH are, but I think that proves that FSM has talent across a wide range. Musically, vocally, lyrically, this album is incredible. Any FSM fan should find this worth buying. And to anyone who is unfamiliar with FSM, I'm telling you to check them out. It will be worth it.

Excellent Collection of House, Classic House and Deep House.......2006-04-20

Another excellent and consistent collection of tracks from BARGROOVES. Is it so great that it's worth many times the original list price - that's your call - it's not great or brillliant with any must-have tracks that are available nowhere else but all the 20+ tracks are worthwhile to have available as a DJ or if you just enjoy excellent dance CD's.
