Riding high on the phenomenal success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay is in peak form on Coldplay Live 2003. This CD/DVD two-pack was filmed (on Super-16mm film) and recorded in Sydney's Horden Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003, during an exhaustive year-long world tour, and the medium-sized arena provides a fitting stage for the London-based rock quartet, not so grand as to overwhelm the music, but large enough to indicate their large and loyal following, which includes enthusiastic fans of either gender. Especially when played in DTS 5.1 surround, this 90-minute concert is richer, thicker, and (of course) louder than Coldplay's studio recordings, lending a wall-of-sound expansiveness to the band's signature sound, which draws from such diverse influences as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Verve, U2, and their own unique sonic landscape. "Politik" gets the gig off to a rousing start, and other impressive! highlights include "Daylight," "Yellow," the as-yet-unreleased new song "Moses," and the popular hits "In My Place," "Clocks," and "The Scientist." And while the concert visuals are slick and professional (perhaps placing a bit too much emphasis on singer/frontman Chris Martin), this DVD and CD--the latter containing a truncated 70-minute version of the same performance--are best appreciated for their pristine audio quality. Culled from 400 hours of home video, the 40-minute "concert diary" represents a wasted opportunity, enjoyable for hardcore fans but offering no insight into the band or its individual members. Much better, then, to play the concert at healthy high volume, and appreciate Coldplay in the prime of their young career. --Jeff Shannon
Description
The two-disc set includes a 90-minute, nine-camera, super 16 live shoot taken from their July 21 and 22, 2003 performances at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, as well as band commentary, a never before broadcast behind-the-scenes documentary, a special tour diary and the edited audio CD. The DVD and CD will also include two PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED live tracks- "The One I Love" and "Moses."

coldplay live....good background music.......2007-04-10
Coldplay is definitely a solid live band, the problem is, from a production; sound quality standpoint, how do intelligent musicians like this not realize that you need to increase the high end (treble) to maximize the low end (bass)....the way we used to do back in the 80's...the resonance of the bass is greatly reduced without the high end...this is how bands back then used to get that bright, echo-ee, clean live sound...man, i saw eddie money outdoors one october night at heather farms in walnut creek, ca, and his band sounded freaking awesome...bassy, trebly...crystal clear, the sound just cut through the night sky...anyway, when i hear the last two or three minutes of Politik...I'm in absolute heaven...as good as it is, it could have been so much better - along with the rest of the album, with a little bit stronger production / sound quality...This band is way too talented to suffer from sound like this...That being said, this is a solid live album, and you can't go wrong with the cd/dvd combo pak.
Quality Product.......2007-03-08
I received this product on time, and was very pleased with my purchase. This is a very good concert for those that really enjoy Coldplay and have not been fortunate enough to go to a real concert.
COLDPLAY LIVE.......2006-11-06
I went to a live Coldplay show and this DVD was as spectacular as the live show!! I reccomend this to any Coldpay fan or anyone that is a fan of live music. ENJOY!!
im listen to this genre too.......2006-07-29
coldplay is a great band. this album is for real fans.
the dvd is bangin ya'll
the songs are great and have a distinct sound only coldplay can produce.
Quite good concert but sloppy editing.......2006-05-03
It's always fun watching concert DVD's. For one thing, being a musician, I can actually watch not only how they play the songs but see the musicianship of the band without the benefit of redoing takes and overdubbing certain parts. It's still a bit too early for a Coldplay DVD but still it's quite a good one regardless, it's just marred by the MTV-style editing that I'm very much despising at the moment.
The show combines some tracks from first release Parachutes to 2nd release A Rush of Blood to the Head, as well as 3 non-album tracks. There's of course crowd favorites such as Trouble(with a huge end sing along), the Scientist, Clocks, Don't Panic, Yellow with a beautifully sung intro to album tracks such as Amsterdam, Daylight and Shiver. As for the 3 non-album tracks, I love 2: The One I Love, a big rocker with a catchy ending("sing it to me, oh oh") and See You Soon, a beautiful/melancholy acoustic ballad.
The editing problems are first evident in the Politik intro. While the track itself has that pounding beat, so does the editing and it's incredibly jarring. It reminds me of an old guy trying to get in the mindset of a young person by acting and talking fast so the hyperactive camera is a result of a "this is what the kids want" mentality. Like most DVD's, the lead singer Chris Martin tends to get the most attention. A talent yes but other band members get very quick shots before going back to Chris. At one point I almost thought I saw band member to Chris to band member to Chris rather than switching between the 4 of them.
It would've been nicer if they waited till X&Y came out so we can get Square One, Speed of Sound and Fix You live but that's alright. Knowing the record company, we'll get another one soon.

Wonderful CD for toddlers and up.......2006-06-02
My three year old son loves this CD and listens over and over. We heard Itchie Itchie Ow one morning and he was singing it that afternoon and I knew we had to get the CD. My husband and I enjoy her voice as well, soft, calming and melodious - easy tunes to remember and about things to which kids can relate. She is somewhat similar to Laurie Berkner but Katherine's songs seem to have more relevance, i.e., kids understand muscles and bones and what itchies and owies are. I agree with the other reviewers; you will be listening several times a day so good thing adults enjoy as well!!
awesome cd!.......2006-05-10
My children and I saw Katherine Dines at our library. She is wonderful! We bought two cd's and this is our favorite! Myself my children and all the kids in the neighborhood love her cd's (3-10yr olds). They always ask for it in the car. Muscle and Bones and Hey Sam are hands down the favorites of this cd. I really enjoy listening myself. You won't be disapointed with this cd.
Katherine Dines is the best!.......2000-09-25
My 2-year-old son has had this CD since he was 10 months old, and he loves it! If Mama doesn't play "Sam" (his name for it) at least once a day, she's in trouble! The songs are easy to learn and remember, the tunes are memorable and--great for this adult who has to listen to it over and over--enjoyable! Dines has a real gift for entertaining children as well as educating, and this collection is one of her best.

Album Description
This album shows what a magnificent, powerful & remarkable voice the Captain had & what a truly formidable force the 'magic' band were. This is another historic document & features such rarities as the Captain performing 'The Blimp' from 'Trout Mask Replica' (1969) which leads him into playing a sax solo equal to the free jazz experimentation of Ornette Coleman or John Coltrane, 'Harry Irene' with the best whistling outro ever & the lost gem, 'Railroadism'- a distant cousin of the lost track 'Hoboism' + many more. This will not only be of importance to Beefheart freaks but to the world as a whole. Also features previously unpublished photos & in-depth liner notes. Viper.
Customer Reviews:
I say come back come back baby come back click clack..........2005-03-24
I have waited some three years to write this review. Three years since I ordered this from England with great timidity. Three years since I placed the disc in my CD player and three years since I was overjoyed at what I heard.
Why, you might ask have I waited three years. Well, to be honest, I have been waiting for more material to emerge from Britain because there is clearly material around and much more importantly, in England at least there appears to be a coterie of fans who are ready, willing and able to purchase this material. In fact I have today ordered yet another album of outtakes and live material.
Regular readers may recall the trepidation with which I approached magnetic Hands as set out in my review for Amazon. There was some degree of trepidation here also but that was soon swept away by the first listening.
First the bad news. Some of the recordings are quite frankly of pretty poor quality. Secondly the material is more recent than I would have wished predominantly mid-70s and early eighties. Third there is not enough of it.
On the positive side the first thing to note is that there is little of the era of Unconditionally Guaranteed/Bluejeans and whatever material. Thank the deity for small mercies at least. Secondly the Captain is in good voice throughout and apparently in fine spirits. Unlike the London 1974 album where he seemed subdued and distracted here he is in fine form as is the band.
To be brutally frank, this is a rough diamond but I love it. Just to get a live version of the Blimp, (the mothership, the mothership) is worth the asking price. The range of songs and the selections are indicative of the variuous parts of the Captain's journey and the fact that they are live makes them valuable as there is little live material out there especially from the Bizarre years. I have my own particular favourites such as the Smithsonian Institute Blues and China Pig.
This is one Beefheart album everyone should own along with Trout Mask and Decals. by the way. Would you not think that given the continued interest in the Magic Captain's output some record company type would put two and two together and come up with Profit $ signs in their eyes. Their eyes are a blue million dollar miles? What reason can there be for keeping that masterpiece off the shelves when you can still buy Unconditionally Guaranteed? It does not make sense.
If you like the real thing, the Captain Beefheart of the Blues, then buy this album. Take it home, crank up the volume and listen to the work of genius. Listen to it on headphones, listen to it in the car, share it with friends share it with the world and let everyone know what they and we are missing. Come back Captain, my Captain. We need you.

This is an astonishing CD with something for everyone!!.......1998-10-19
This CD is absolutely astonishing!! Connie Smith's clear, pure voice both moves and elates!! This CD has something for everyone! Connie Smith belts out her super hits like, Once A Day and Run Away Little Tears that tug at your heart and then contrasts those sad hits with her light, lively and exciting, I've Got My Baby on My Mind and If It Ain't Love (Let's Leave it Alone). And if that weren't enough, this CD includes a medley of ten favorites that will have you playing it again and again!! It will both entertain and move you!! I am so thrilled Connie is back and as stong as ever!!

beautiful patriotic music.......2003-08-28
This is an excellent CD. The music, both voices and orchestra, is superb. The content of the lyrics is inspiring. It reminds me of so many reasons I'm proud to be American.
All new recordings, with a strong patriotric theme.......2003-07-16
Surprised that no one has reviewed this yet. Amazon.com doesn't give much info on this release, so I thought I'd rectify that. This is the second brand-new release on the "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" label, following their April 2003 release of "Consider the Lilies." Again, several of the arrangements are by Mack Wilberg, with direction by Craig Jessop and accompianment by the Orchestra at Temple Square. The track list is as follows:
1 America the Beautiful
Music: Samuel A. Ward
Text: Katherine Lee Bates
Arrangement: Mack Wilberg (Oxford University Press) 4:30
2 Bound for the Promised Land
Music: American folk hymn.

The sound on this release is, if anything, even cleaner than the previous release, with the Choir and orchestra very evenly balanced. The programming includes a mix of both traditional and brand new songs, a couple of which (Stephen Paulus's "Hymn For America," and Charles Osgood's "The Pledge of Allegiance") were commissioned especially for this recording. Additional note: several of these songs were included on the Choir's 2003 Northeastern States tour, which was a huge success. I highly recommend this recording!

Pretty good album by them. Good beats the first real party rap music. Its better than all the garbage thats out as of right now. If you like any of there songs like theyre popular ones, then there is no reason that you wouldnt like this album. Pick it up!!!

The Dvd Begins with a Long Jam from Taylor's Backing Band that is truly pointless and tiring...Utilize the Menu option and begin with Cut #2, and You will witness a stirring Live Performance, Outstanding Camera Work and many upclose views of Johnnie Taylor in impassioned Vocalization, Sweat pouring off His Face, Dirty Southern Soul/R&B at its Finest. A few Hits juxtaposed by some Excellent Blues, and a Fine Duet with Cute Daughter Tasha Taylor. I attended Taylor's Longhorn Ballroom Concert in 1996, 15 Months prior to this One, I had hoped this DVD was from THAT Show, but This one was probably better (The Show I went to had Taylor Cursing a mildly unruly crowd ("Sit Your Black Ass Down!"), and threatening to leave early, which He did, for about 10 minutes during "Cheaper to Keep Her", before returning)...Excellent Vocal phrasing, as usual, lots of quick Camera Pans that Work seamlessly to give the Viewer the feeling He is actually THERE...I Generally Disdain Live Concert Videos, but this One is Thumbs Up!!!
Johnnie T........2005-11-08
I would've given this DVD a 5 star rating but the DVD begins with the introduction of Johnnie Taylor's band performing 25 minutes before Johnie Taylor walks out on stage. That's my only negative about the DVD.
Although Johnnie does stay on stage for an hour performing songs like 'Who's Makin' Love", "Last Two Dollars", "Sending you a Kiss", "Good Love", "Disco Lady" etc. He even does a duet with his Daughter "Tasha" singing "Ain't That Lovin' You".
This DVD was recorded in 1997 when Johnnie was touring off the "Good Love" CD which was the highlight of Johnnie Taylor career at Malaco.
We all know that the "Good Love' CD is indeed a classic so you won't go wrong picking up this DVD seeing a legend at his finest.
At the end of this DVD Malaco Records honor him and give tribute to his passing on May 31, 2000.
