Hilde's poems and Gerald's music are full of upbeat, positive energy.

About the Artist
Agnus Dei was formed in 2001 by Austrian musician Gerald Krampl and lyricist Hilde Krampl. The duo decided to create a dyad of a certain esoteric themes which are revealed through poetry and music. Gerald's music is achieved through piano & keyboard orchestration. The stories are esoteric fantasy tales, but told in Hilde's own unique style. The project is not exclusively suited for the esoteric circle but also for all lovers of romantic and imaginative music & poems. The effect is to take your mind away on a meditative journey. Gerald Krampl was born in 1954. As a youth, he was educated in classical piano. In the 1970's and 1980's he founded the Austrian symphonic rock bands Kyrie Eleison and Indigo in which he played keyboards. Over the years, Gerald has owned and operated his own recording studio and music production company. Gerald actively practices Reiki (Master Level), Runes reading, and Meditation. Hilde Krampl was born in 1956. Since her childhood days she fell in love with the lyrics of Hermann Hesse, Heinrich Boll, and Erich Fried. Inspired by their works, she tried her hand at writing a variety of her own poems and stories. In 1996 took the first steps into serious esoteric activities with the first and second initiations into Reiki, later on followed an education in Huna. She has also worked with Stones and Blossoms. Since 2001 she started anew, writing lyrics and poems and trying to take a fresh look upon esoteric themes in fantastic and imaginative ways. This created the framework for Gerald?s musical ideas. Sadly, in 2002, Hilde Krampl passed away. She is greatly missed.

Karaindrou has done it again.......2005-10-15

I watched Angelopoulos' film about 6 months ago and I have to say that his film is the one that have made the greatest impression with me ever; but even so, the film wouldn't have had the same impact if it weren't for the music composed by Eleni Karaindrou. I bought this soundtrack a few months ago and when playing it at home it gave me the exact same feelings that I had when watching the movie. The music is achingly beautiful; melancholic as well as dramatic. It's as if this music is coming from a different era; yet it's not old-fashioned. It has the sound of East European traditional music; still it's easily recognisable as Greek music even if there's not a bouzouki in sight. Eleni Karaindrou has her own distinct "sound". It's the music of a genius; the film of Angelopoulos demands no less and she really lives up to the task. If you've seen the film then this soundtrack is a must; if you haven't I still think you will enjoy the music as it is absolutely beautiful. I just love this music, but as with all the ingenious music, it requiers your full attention at all times; otherwise it's a waste of the composers' ingeniousness. It's really difficult describing this music, so my best advice is to buy this and listen and judge for yourselves. I can't imagine that you will be disappointed.

Karaindrou is not at all a lucky composer. She has an extremely demanding task: to compose for Angelopoulos's films. She has to reach an equally aesthetic point. In order to perceive the amount of effort, it is quite necessary to understand that behind Angelopoulos films is the touchy subject of modern Greek history. The after WWII Greek society in continuous political and economical turmoil. In order to convey his message, Angelopoulos uses something more than conventional cinema, something more than the image: He uses poetry in its photographic version. It takes more than mere moving pictures. It takes a kind of slow motion close to the stillness of photography to make a poetical narration of history

Karaindrou has to make it with sound, an inherently weaker means of expression compared to the visual one. And finally she performs. You can see Angelopoulos through her music. You can feel the images. Or forget everything about the motion picture that gave birth to this gem and enjoy the musical experience as you can do with Mahler without ever watching "Death in Venice"

As with the previous two releases from Agnus Dei, "Angelos" is a package with a CD of music composed and performed by Austrian keyboardist/pianist Gerald Krampl and a booklet of poetry by Hilde Krampl, Gerald's late wife. The poetry is not meant to be lyrics, but rather short poems to be read as you listen to the music. The ten "Angelprayers" accompany the ten compositions named for various angels. The closing track is simply titled "Grief (For Hilde)." Krampl's classical roots are very evident, as are his many years as a "progressive rocker." The music is full and expressive, and is not the light, airy music usually associated with music about angels - these are pieces you can sink your teeth into. Several of the tracks have an air of mystery about them, and are rather dark; others are more lighthearted and optimistic. "Michael" gives the CD an easy-going opening with piano, and bowed and plucked strings. "Uriel" is a bit more intense and dark, and is one of my favorites. I also like "Raphael" a lot (probably because the color associated with him is violet!); mostly piano and light percussion, the piece is introspective without being gloomy. "Metatron" is one of the upbeat pieces, carefree and sunny, this is my other favorite track. "Nathaniel" is also fascinating; a little dark, but with hope and optimism. "Angelos" tells a very interesting musical story, and the poems add insight to who the angels are.
