i feel as if it isn't like Crystal Clear as many were saying. I liked about 5/12 songs on there. so yeah. i liked the first three: You're my God, Jesus Is, Lost without You, Real Me, Uspoken
those were my favorites..the rest were kind of boring and slow. and i agree, her voice was definately lower in SOME songs, but she is still really good.

Not her best.......2004-06-06

This is her 7th album. She once said she was still trying 2 find her style. 1st of all, her voice was completely different from her 1st. WORSE. Not as deep and good as it was B 4. The first song is what U would expect for a teen pop performers 1st album. I liked the violin sound of the 2nd song. But that was it. The 3rd song had good beat and lyrics, but her voice ruined it. The 4th 1 is actually really good. Her voice didn't ruin it. The 5th 1 had a really good opening. The 6th 1 is the best! Great opening, very unique and her voice didn't ruin it. But it was 2 short. The 7th 1 was good, but she wasn't putting enough vocal strength in 2 it. The 8th 1 starts out with a gentle techno sound, but just wasn't good enough. The 9th 1 had terrible lyrics, and was pointless. The 10th 1 was alright. I don't have anthing 2 say about the 11th, and the last song... Uh uh. My over all problem with this CD is that, it was 2 scattered and just not enough. And her voice.

This album is a bit different from all other Jaci cd's, especially the beat & instrumentation, perhaps less vocally challenging. But just as good.
All the songs are worth listening to, and the lyrics are deep and meaningful. They express her love for God, and her true self. My favorite tracks are "You're my God" , "Lost without you", "The real me" (am i the girl that u want me to be-with thoughts of fear of intimacy), and "Unspoken" (...don't leave your heart unspoken), "Glass House"(i know i can take it, you can throw the stones, cause it's my faith that keep me strong.)Listening to the CD rejoices me. Jaci is very talented! Vocals not as strong as in her older albums YET this is a great cd to own.

Jaci Velasquez's Unspoken is a great CD! It makes a home in my heart with the title track alone. Unspoken the title track is so good that its worth the cd. The other songs are good also, songs like "The Real Me" and "He" among others make this a must have for 2004.

Do let this cd slip by becasue it has a message for everyone.

Highly underrated and very overshadowed... .......2007-03-15

This album is a must hear for any true extreme metalheads... if your into the likes of Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, etc, you may wish to keep shopping at Hot Topic, but for Death/Black Metal fans that dig top musicianship and great songwriting and arrangements, you gotta hear this! I'm no satanist, but I didn't make the foolish mistake of passing these brits up just based on their religious preference, I'm a musician, who also happens to be a Metalhead... this album, played loudly on a dark night, preferably while driving through mountains or anywhere not in the city, will translate into a sublime experience. Also highly suggested, the new Cannibal Corpse and Deicide albums are F#$@ing awesome!!! \m/.

Beautifully evil.........2007-03-02

Akercocke have released one of the most innovative metal albums of the decade, and this is it. A furious mixture of Prog/Black/Death/metal that flows seamlessy together in a grandoise and frightening formula is what puts this album high above the rest of the stale metal scene.

There are so many atmospheres and such a grand scale of dynamics that you can listen to this over and over and never grow bored. The vocals cross over from death growls, to behind-the-mix black metal shrieks, to gothic singing perfectly in sync with the rest of the band. There are very melodic passages, blinding death/black metal madness and even at times a tinge of electronica, but none of the elements ever overpower each other. This album lacks almost absolutely nothing. The only complaint (and it is a very minor one) is that the clean vocals are slightly out of tune. But hey, this is metal! Who cares right?

Unique, interesting & excellent all around.......2006-10-08

Although Akercocke are commonly referred to as "progressive blackened death metal," there's no doubt that they're now officially in a league and genre all their own. And the band might not steer entirely clear of the musical blueprint Opeth first created in 1995, but there are several crucial differences. For one, Akercocke incorporate a much greater black metal influence into their music. Next, singer Jason Mendonca has an even wider and more impressive vocal range than that of Mikael Akerfeldt. He's able to sing cleanly, croon, growl, summon super low, indecipherable bellows that are reminiscent of bands like Dying Fetus, and (like almost any black metal singer), he can also pierce your ear drums with high, banshee-like shrieks. And it makes Jason's performance even more impressive when one hears that he's capable of using all of those vocal styles in just one song! Oh, and Akercocke are from England, not Sweden.

"Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone" is clearly rooted in death metal, but it's never limited to just one type of music. It brilliantly blends death, thrash, and black metal with prog rock (ala Cynic), chilling overtones, overtly Satanic poetry, gothic keyboards, other delicate, ethereal ambience, and trippy sound effects (i.e. maniacal laughter and creepy, snarling animal noises). Indeed, this is a very richly textured and almost mind-blowing record which shows off so many great dynamics, diversities, and details that it makes Ihsahn's debut ("The Adversary") sound like a Mayhem release (well not quite, but you get the point). But that's not to mislead you -- the songs aren't nearly as difficult to digest as you might think. From front to back, this album is impeccably smooth, flowing, diverse, exciting, instantly identifiable, satisfying, complex, intriguing, memorable, and all around genius.

"Verdelet" is an excellent album opener that's highlighted by catchy thrash riffs, a blistering guitar lead, and forceful double bass heft. Then it's time for the positively stellar second song, "Seduced." This is a mostly instrumental track and is bolstered by speedy, churning riffs and rapid, airtight death metal blasts. After that comes another song, "Shelter From The Sand," which is very difficult not to love. It flies out of the starting gate with strong, buzzsaw guitar flurries and vitriolic vocals before the band pulls hard on the song's reigns and include a soft, harmonic break with ominous guitar feedback, slow, jangly piano keys, and limpid, British-accented singing.

The extremely unpredictable title track (which begins with prog-ish, beeping bass notes and echoing guitar strums before suddenly launching into a breakneck thrash tempo and fiery guitar licks) is another candidate for the best song on here, and there are three other highlights near the end of the album."Intractable" is almost dreamy; "Seraphs and Silence" tosses a tasty, winding guitar solo into the mix; and, lastly, "Penance" is fueled by raging guitar work which almost careens off the map.

To summarize, "Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone" is nothing short of excellent. It does lose out to Enslaved's "Ruun" for 2006's finest black metal album to date, but it is still, hands down, the year's most intricate, unique, innovative, meticulous, interesting, and original extreme music release.

Listenable...even though the singers voice is kind of corney..........2006-09-12

I had never heard of Akercocke before this, and I have to say that I am somewhat impressed and intrigued by this band.
First off, they have a nice blend of well produced black metal/acoustic/progressive rock that is right up my alley. The only thing that I cannot stand is the singers voice. It is kind of annoying. Other than that this album is quite good and is a must have for Metal fans alike.

Some greatness....some not really greatness.......2006-07-10

I gave it two mostly because I have an overall negative feel for this album, and three seems basically neutral.

This album does a lot right, and has a lot of very cool parts, all going from heavy to soft, all over the place, as mentioned before. It is mostly well done, and I thoroghly enjoy such moments on the disc. However, there is a problem I have with one of the directions they take.

First, however, a comment on the "incredible range" of the vocals. I don't see it that way, and even if he technically has a better range, than Akerfeldt, it doesn't really matter to me, because Akerfeldt is simply better, even if his range is less. Which, by the way, I don't buy for a second. For one, on this disc, I see basically two styles used, clean vocals and *extremely* weak grindcore grunting. (See next paragraph for more on this) He very rarely uses any death growls or even black metal vocals (on a black metal disc!?). The great range seems to basically consist of singing and grunting, with a couple other styles thrown in for a couple minutes. (to the point that just sitting here, I can think of only a few seconds of it)

Now, for my big problem with the disc. The grindcore. For some reason, they feel the need to have grindcore moments in virtually every song. Featuring a very gutteral, indistinguishable (and unremarkable) grunting, and similarly unremarkable fast drums. (As if its some sort of innovation.) I don't even like grindcore, but this is reminicent of some of the worst I've heard. (In fact, it reminds me so much of a zombie hunting game featuring grindcore on the internet, that as I am listening to it on my cd player, I feel like I should be blasting zombies on this game). I have to ask--why not use death or black vocals, insead of grindcore grunts? (they're not really even vocals) I can stand any death/black growls, which is something I think only a fraction of metal heads can say. I like black metal. But I cannot listen to grindcore grunting. I simply can't--not to metion doing that doesn't really take much range and doesn't make you great.

So, overall--could have been utterly great, but too often divulges into grindcore-esque moments, which overshadow the, admitedly, fantastic parts. Which, by the way, outnumber the grindcore parts, but even that little bit is too much for me. (Maybe not you) Too bad.

EDIT: oh, and I haven't watched the DVD and don't really plan to before I sell this album, so who knows what its like?

Arguably "The Best" English "Merry Widow ".......2006-09-12

This is the "Merry Widow" with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved this rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with the word "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note with an incressing crescendo and fortissimo louder than the chorus and holding the final high note---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!

The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, this CD is made in Holland and "there is one left" so it says on Amazon. The music is of course magnificient. However I am disappointed in Dame. Sutherland's performance.She takes certailly liberties that compromises the quality of the music.

The "best version" of the "Merry Widow" is NOT this one. The best version is the one with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. THE MERRY WIDOW, Franz Lehar's dizzying and delightful operetta chestnut, is given the grand treatment in this highlights album featuring Joan Sutherland.

There have been many widows (including June Bronhill, Anna Moffo, Beverly Sills), though Joan Sutherland's WIDOW has always been especially grand. The supporting cast on this recording features Werner Krenn as Count Danilo with Valerie Masterson as Valencienne, Regina Resnik as Zo-Zo and John Brecknock as Camille, with Francis Egerton, John Fryatt, Graeme Ewer and the Ambrosian Singers.

Sutherland's performance as Hanna Glawari is full of masterful strokes and she approaches the score with a twinkle in her eye, aware of the comedy in the piece. Richard Bonynge conducts the National Philharmonic Orchestra and they are especially chill-inducing with the Overture.

All-in-all a superlative recording at a bargain price.

Performances better than the recording.......2004-01-18

Unfortunately this CD was made from the Australian TV tapeing of The Merry Widow, a shame that the microphones are not of high enough quality to capture the really fine performances, it is hard enough to understand what is being sung when properly recorded let alone when the equipment stinks, however if you enjoy Joan Southerland as much as I do you can overlook the flaws in the recording and just get carried away with the voice, it would be nice if a libretto had been included, a rarity today, that used to be common in the era of the LP

This album was fantastic! He is a wonderful artist and each and every song sends me traveling to exotic places in waunderlust. So many of the cuts have been played on jazz stations and everyone who has heard this cd has used it as a relaxation piece.

His style reminds me totally of the new cd that is out right now by Dave Koz who, when listening to the two of them, sound identical in concept and systematic note structure. At first I even thought it was Koz until the store manager where I purchased the cd said who he was. Keep it up Randy - you'll do wonderful things and you have a great future ahead of you.

Incredible Talent.......2003-10-29

I bought this CD because the DJ of "Jazz Now and Then" on WQNA was raving about an "incredible new talent" and then played a cut from this album. I had to agree, that this dude was great so I bought the album and now I play it all the time. Why isn't this guy more famous? His agent needs to book him on Leno or Letterman.

A TALENT FOR ALL AGES AND FOR ALL SEASONS!.......2003-02-01

Randy Scott's music is unique! It appeals to people between the ages of eleven to eighty...and up! It reaches
deep into the listener's soul and provides comfort at the end of a chaotic day.

Randy's expertise with his instrument is phenomenal! He draws you in with his expert technique with "Sailing" and "Quicksand", gets you "mellow" with "Words Unspoken" and "Shades of Blue" and then touches your heart with "Peace Within Me" and "Everlasting Love"

I am a musician, and a very lucky one, because I get to listen to his music daily......and LIVE!

We are teachers in the same school. Randy's bands are the best middle school bands in Michigan. I have the pleasure of listening to him practice on his prep hour. And I have the rare experience of working with a person of integrity
who continuously demonstrates good values for his students.

Anyone who loves EXCELLENT music, appreciates that he is truly a role model for kids, and needs PEACE in this time of impending war must have Randy's CD.

Believe me, it will calm you!

Must Have CD.......2003-01-15

I bought this CD as an experimental buy. I had not heard of Randy Scott before, and being a saxophonist, I thought I'd try something new. What a surprise! I love this CD from Start to finish. Randy is a wonderful multi-instrumentalist who is anointed, gifted, and also writes very well. It's hard to pick a favorite on this CD because it is all good. But, If I had to choose I would say cut #4 "Outer Drive" GO BUY THE CD.

HIS BEST YET!.......2003-01-05

This CD is definitely Randy at his best. "Lost in the Moment" is the stand-out song on the album, but this CD is good from beginning to end. Randy has a really unique sound that fits with traditional Smooth Jazz, and goes beyond it. This CD really makes you sit up and listen. People used to simple melodies and "elevator music" aren't ready for this!

Unspoken Moments/Love Is More Than Spoken.......2006-07-30

Mark Greene was; for a long while, only a footnote in the history of the Stang Records R&B vocal group "THE MOMENTS". His voice was the lead on the group's first chart hit "Not On The Outside...But Inside Strong". But it was the trio of Harry Ray, Al Goodman and Billy Brown(also three of my favorite vocal group singers - as well as Greene)who gained fame as the voices on most of the subsequent Moments' releases on the Stang label and then later moved on to continued success on the Polydor label with the release of "Special Lady" and other hits. Initially, this recording was released under the moniker of "The Moments featuring Mark Greene" and the cover graphics depicted Greene along with other founding members John Morgan and Richie Horseley. When the Stang Records label signed the group back in the 60's, Greene and Horseley were swiftly replaced by the better-known Al Goodman and Billy Brown - then, after a brief interim stint by Johnny Moore, Harry Ray came in to finally round out the now-famous trio. The 'original' Moments' voices can be detected on some of the group's earliest recordings; mainly on background vocals(it was less costly to replace only lead vocals on studio tracks when the meter was constantly running!) The original titling on this disc was changed; likely to avoid the same type of legalities Ray,Goodman & Brown ran into when they left Stang for Polydor(over the use of the name "The Moments"). On this independent release, you now finally have an opportunity to hear a multi-talented artist using all the facets of his talents. The production on this disc is top-notch and the entire program makes for good listening anytime - day or night!

The very best piano solos!!.......2005-09-20

This disc, which I purchased as a college student right after its release, is the most relaxing, yet important music ever recorded. There is not a particular track that stands out, for ALL of them do.I have listened to, enjoyed, and clung to releases by David Lanz and Suzanne Ciani, especially her Pianissimo series, but nothing has touched my heart like Mr. Trowbridge. You start with "Daybreak Communion" and it just gets better and more involved from there. A very great CD, and it is just too bad that it is not required listening for the general population. A wonderful piece of work that will stand the test of time. If you have the opportunity, but it today, as you will not be disappointed.

Beauty...........2005-06-22

Beauty truly takes on a a musical form! I've gone to sleep, driven long distances, written poetry, cooked meals, cleaned house or simply meditated to this wonderful, pure, liquid joy!

This has to be the best relaxation CD on this planet. It has been in my collection since 1999 and I still listen to it often. The softness of it just rolls over you, inserts itself into your being and centers you.

I fell feel very lucky and blessed to have purchased this piece of heaven at a CD Warehouse for a very small fee...and it was on a whim. I was looking for something different, something relaxing..and boy did I ever find it!

Classic gem this is...the other reviewers speak truth.

Pure.........2003-07-15

..I first heard a cut from a sampler album in the early 90s. Liked it so well that I ordered the album; then, when I switched my collection to CD, I special ordered the CD. The music is timeless. It's music in it's purest form, original, (e.g., haven't sold out to make a buck)..genuinely from the heart. ..I too, have purchased extra copies of this CD just to give them away to others. Take the phone off the hook, cut off the TV, put on this CD and let it take you on a relaxing, spiritual journey of heart and soul.. God Bless you Douglas Trowbridge.

Favorite instrumental album.......2003-02-11

I first heard Songs Unspoken as a DJ for a Christian radio station in the mid 1980's. It was originally released on the Meadowlark label - a group of meditative instrumental musicians.
The melody lines are the purest I've heard, very similar to George Winston (several times callers to the radio station thought it was Winston) but the melodies are simpler and more moving than Winston's. [I have to keep buying the CD because I give them away - I even made a tape that I gave to George Winston at an autograph signing.]

Where Dreams are Born is my favorite piece of music, and I have an extensive library of all types of music. The title is very appropriate ... the dreamlike feeling of the song captures the essence of soaring hope with just a tinge of melancholy. I can only equate it to A Lark Ascending, Vaughn Williams masterpiece of emotion. The rest of the CD is equally as provocative and soothing.
I have played most of the CD at various times on our local PBS radio station. It never fails that someone will call and ask about it. This is truly a moving collection.

A Soothing Tapestry of Sound.......2002-03-23

Douglas Trowbridge offers a refreshing cascade of piano music flowing throughout his album Songs Unspoken. Songs Unspoken, originally released under the Meadowlark label, takes the listener through soothing meadows of harmony and pianoscape. Particulary enchanting was Trowbridge's rendition of Finlandia. Crisp piano notes coarse through rivulets of sound as pure and refreshing as a mountain stream. It is a shame this album is no longer produced.

Superb Operetta Collection.......2006-09-12

Surely this must be the finest collection of songs in Enlgish from operettas and early 20th century musicals available anywhere. Marilyn Hill Smith is in fine voice and is admirably partnered by baritone Peter Morrison. This two CD collection is truly a 'treasure.' It belongs in the collection of any English speaking lover of operetta.

(3+Half) but not quite worth waiting 48mths for........2005-08-12

Considering i got their 1st album this is a bit disapointing for me as nearly have that album appears on this aswell. I honestly thought after waiting nearly 2years for s'thing new from them it'd all be original material.(When i actually purchased this cd the track-list wasnt up on the display.) Apart from that 1 minor complaint, its excellent, thought-provoking, upbeat, positive, head-nodding hiphop all round. Opening with a strong solo joint from ASHERU called "mid-atlantic" it quickly sets the tone that this is for the real hiphop heads. Followed by "better", "ni**a like me", "setting sun", "how you livin'", "trackrunners" and the utterly sublime "the music". This is however where this "new" album pretty much ends, apart from the very good "its about time" and "black moses" being scattered amongst the older tracks. However for just those tracks that ive named this is a worthwhile addition to your collection. If you havent got the 1st album from these cats then this is the perfect album to showcase their many talents from start to finish. Sadly, if like me you got the 1st album, you will feel slightly let down. But these cats are so talented that you tend to easily forgive that. Support the real hiphop artists like these.

I've been sleeping on Asheru & Blue Black for too long. After hearing Asheru for the first time on a compilation album(Sound Providers) about two weeks ago, I purchased this album and "Soon Come" at the same time. Asheru, Blue Black and the entire Seven Heads Crew produce music that you can feel. You can't say that about too many hip hop artists. I can vividly remember how I felt when I first heard the Roots. I was blown away. I feel the same about these cats. Even after getting married and having two duaghters, they make me want to get back in the studio again..... FIVE STARS!! BOTH ALBUMS!! PERIOD!!
