ANSWERING THE CALL There was a woman by the name of Aunt Ethel that always would yell out to me sing my song Chell (sign me up) in the little baptist church that I used to attend at the age of 14. She must have seen something in me that no one else had seen at that time. I went through the rest of my life trying to sing and my one sister used to say oh God could you please be quiet. I always wanted to sing so at the age of 18 I joined a group and the group was quite bad, but I wanted to sing in anything that I could. Well they heard me sing and they kicked me out of the group in the first rehearsal. Wow I felt so horrible, but I didn't let that stop me from trying to sing wherever I went. My desire was strong, I always felt this urge in the inside to keep going, so I did. One night while in a church meeting the spirit of God was moving heavily, the spirit was thick, you could almost cut it with a knife. Music was playing and a guy by the name of Rodney was singing and all of a sudden a note came out of my mouth, It was so powerful that everyone around me got quiet and the note still kept coming. Everyone was surprised, no one knew that I could sing like that, I didn't know that I could sing like that. My own brother that was there that night was stunned. I told the Lord that if he blessed me with a voice that I would sing for him. The Lord sent me to the New Jerusalem church and with the love of my pastor, (Perzavor Armour) she prayed me through lots of hurt and pain. She really came through for me (thank you pastor). I am proud to say I have a pastor such as this, great women of God. She is an awesome women. Then my ministry of music began to flourish. I am now a youth choir director and a lead singer in our adult choir, which is lead by Evangelist Iris Lacey-Brown, by the way who is an inspiration to me. Then the Lord turned around and bless me with a great friend who also prayed me through, and that would be Elder Sandra Hopgood. God bless them all for being in the place where God has called them to be. So to all you people that have a desire to sing don't give up hope, because you never know what the lord has in store for you. I am a living witness. Seek the Lord with all your heart and delight yourself in him and he will give you the desires of your heart.

RESTORATION I gave my life to Christ at the age of 16, my father quit drinking and my mother gave her life to the Lord. My family reunited and God did a new thing all in that one year. By the time I was 17 I was building a new relationship with my parents. It was wonderful, my father has not drank now in 20 years, I am all so proud of him. He is a real trooper in life, I am truly inspired by his strength and his courage. As for my mother we built a new walk together, we began going to church, together from that time until she died suddenly on July 11th 2002. She watched me become a minister in the gospel and she went with me to every rehearsal for all my plays. She really came through and became the mother and friend that I always wanted. I thank God for my time with her that we were able to amend all of our ways. I know that all of this could not have been done unless Jesus stepped in and gave us all a clean slate. Just know that God is a fixer of lives and your life can be changed. It! 's not to late.

My husband wanted music that was popular while he was in Vietnam and asked me to order this. I have not listened to it, but he seems pleased.

I am yet to understand why this movie is compared to the likes of Platoon. There is no question which of the two is the better one. I was bored out of my mind after an hour. I turned it off and then when I had time to waste, I finished it. I am sorry I did. 2 Hours I will never get back. I know that evertone is different, but if you have not seen this movie and are thinking about viewing it, do so on a Sunday when you have NOTHING else to do. The only highlight was the Drill Instructor. He managed to crack a smile out me on occasion.

The first one... The rest of the CD is movie instrumentals that are excellent for falling asleep to, but that's about it.

Abigail Mead, the composer of eight songs of this soundtrack, is actually Vivian Kubrick, daughter of Stanley Kubrick.
The disc has 15 tracks:

The first song is a hip-hop/techno mix of the cadences sung by Sgt Hartman in the first part of the movie, it is not a beautiful or good and I don't think it was necessary to include it.

The songs 2 to 7 are songs from the sixties and hear them during the movie creates a "mood" for the movie, for example, the song These Boots Are Made For Walking, by Nancy Sinatra and the scene in Vietnam which a prostitute is walking fits just perfectly and watch the movie without this song would have much less effect. Although they are not complex songs and most of the lyrics are foolish it's worth to have them in the score because they made a good part in the movie.

Song number 8 is the Marine's Hymn, a nice inclusion even thought it's not likely that someone would play this song very often at home.

The rest of the score are the instrumental themes composed by Abigail Mead, some of them are quiet and peaceful like Leonard, and others are more aggressive like Parris Island, with some nice stereo effects.

This is not the best score for a Stanley Kubrick movie and I suggest you to listen to it before you buy or you can have some bad surprises like not listening to Paint it Black, because it was not included or odd songs like Time Suspended. Actually I would suggest this soundtrack for Collectors, Kubrick fans or people with eclectic musical taste.

5 out of 5 stars Boot Camp scenes are hauntingly realistic.......2000-08-04

The best part of this movie is the beginning, when they show what a raw recruit goes through at Boot Camp. It brings back a lot of memories because it was so well done. Lee Ermey just is exactly what a DI is at Paris Island. All the nuances, the lingo, the discipline. The acting is all first rate. Also, the combat portrayals in Hue City showed the type of frustration that vets faced in Vietnam. Snipers were nightmares to deal with. By the time you snuffed 'em out, you lost three or four men. The other movie that, in my opinion is the best war movie ever made, is Hamburger Hill. That movie showed what real grunt life was like in the bush.

This is the "Merry Widow" with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved this rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with the word "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note with an incressing crescendo and fortissimo louder than the chorus and holding the final high note---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!

The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, this CD is made in Holland and "there is one left" so it says on Amazon. But, if you can find it, I think it would be very much worth a listen. Then, after hearing it, if you think there's a "better" Merry Widow, please let ME know! Thanks. Email:boland7214@aol.

    Thank goodness that these well filled CDs of selections from three of Offenbach's most entertaining and tuneful operettas are available. Exactly the thing to provide some hearty nourishment for Winter nights. Ideal also for a Summer barbecue. In both cases, a glass of champagne, or at least some other bubbly beverage, would be good to have at hand - everything here no doubt will call for a toast or several.

    It is so nice to be able to hear in these translations the witty words, sung with welcome clarity and meaning by these admirable artists. As I recall, there were no microphones in sight, and perhaps not even used, when this production of Orpheus In The Underworld was brought to Australia, with a few cast changes but the same sparkle as shown here. Crisp diction and lively, often lovely, singing - a great recipe for enjoyable listening indeed.

    The recording sounds a bit shrill here and there, but what a churlish quibble; to Hades with such curmudgeonly qualifications! This is music to raise the spirits, and not just those from Hades.

    5 out of 5 stars Essential Purcell compositions.......2004-10-07

    According to the liner notes, this first volume contains works that span throughout the whole (short) career of Purcell. Even his earliest anthems written when he was a teenager demonstrate that he was a genious from the beginning. The King Purcell demonstrates a composer at the same level as Bach in talent and depth.
    The performances could not be bettered. The singers, choir and orchestra bring their all to these pieces.
    The 11 volumes are expensive but really belong in every classical music lover's collection. Buy as many as you can afford.

    While some of the works are superior to others the entire set is great in the realm of production. Mostly all of these pieces are just superb and if you are someone who enjoys English Baroque then you absolutely MUST purchase these cds. If you enjoy complex, melancholic or heroic music then I urge you to purchase this cd and the rest of the volumes in the set...you won't be disappointed.

    OMG, this is really not a very good CD... why would you want to buy a soundtrack for a horror movie anyway? and listen to people talk on it... honestly! It's really a pointless CD and a waste of money!

    A search for David Hess turned up this CD, which he is NOT on. David contributed SIX songs to the Cabin Fever Soundtrack, including the closing credits. Do not buy this CD if you are expecting to hear David Hess music from the film, those songs are available separately from David Hess at his own .com

    The Cabin Fever soundtrack captures all the fun and insanity that makes the movie such a riot to watch. The soundtrack features a few cool songs from the movie (The Turtleneck's song is hilarious) as well as some well placed dialogue cuts, but for the most part this soundtrack is a show piece for Nathan Barr and Angeleo Badalamenti. Nathan's tracks are great mood pieces that work great with the film and would make great Holloween music if you need some for a haunted house. As far as Angelo's work goes...it's awesome. His stuff is more subtle than Nathan's work and its adds a nice contrast to the other tracks. Some tracks feel like they came straight out of Twin Peaks. Great stuff! I highly recommend this soundtrack!!

    KISS tribute albums started cropping up more than a decade ago very quickly oversaturating this market with a multitude of cds of varying quality (Hard To Believe, KISS of Death, Spacewalk). Now comes a tribute cd that offers a fresh and unique take on old KISS classics. Classical orchestration has long been a staple of KISS' repertoire, going back to the string ensemble used for the mega-hit Beth in 1976 progressing to the orchestral leanings and gregorian style chanting of the Elder album (1981) to the symphonic version of Black Diamond on their official KISS My A** tribute album to 2003's full blown KISS Symphony project.
    This quartet interprets both well known KISS tunes (Detroit Rock City, Rock and Roll All Night) and more obscure material (Goin' Blind). Some of the choices are downright offbeat, a string quartet version of the funky Ace Frehley number New York Groove...surely you jest...but what is remarkable is how well it works.
    Undisputed highlights are the beautiful renditions of Hard Luck Woman, Goin' Blind and Beth. The quartet incorporates subtle new parts that compliment these well loved melodies tremendously. Love Gun and I Was Made For Lovin' You are extremely powerful renditions also, if not just a little too reminiscent of the KISS Symphony cd and dvd. Even overplayed numbers like Calling Dr.Love and Rock and Roll All Nite are given new life by this incredibly talented ensemble.
    From the Rock and Roll Over album influenced cover art to the last strains of New York Groove, this unique tribute cd is a winner all the way.

    EXCELLENT! I just bought this CD, and have already listened to it a half dozen times. I am a HUGE fan from the classic KISS years (1974-1979 - the years with Peter and Ace in the group).
    If you are a KISS fan, and also like string quartet music, you will love this. If you are a fan of either (KISS or string quartet music), you will have a better appreciation and like for both after purchasing and hearing this CD.
    These guys give the correct respect to classic KISS performance and it is especially seen in the string harmonies, and Ace's guitar solos in each song (except of course "Beth" which didn't have a solo by Ace until the "Unplugged" CD). The only down side of this are the songs that aren't on it, but hopefully that will mean a Volume 2!

    Surely this must be the finest collection of songs in Enlgish from operettas and early 20th century musicals available anywhere. Marilyn Hill Smith is in fine voice and is admirably partnered by baritone Peter Morrison. This two CD collection is truly a 'treasure.' It belongs in the collection of any English speaking lover of operetta.
