Very calming and relaxing drumming.......2007-05-08
This is a very nice CD when I put it in to play my whole house relaxed and clamed down and just listened very nice. The drumming is fantatsic, but if you do not like native american flutes not a CD for you in some parts of the CD the flutes are very loud. But I really enjoy this CD.
Drum Medicine.......2007-01-12
I really enjoy both CD's Sacred Spirit Drums and Drum Medicine. I live in an area of very little resource for this type of purchase- I was very happy to find what I wanted online- also very glad to be able to listen before I purchased- would not have bought them without that. Service was the best- shipping was also very good.. I will consider this type of purchase again when needed.
Awesome Drum CD.......2006-07-13
This CD is awesome I have it in my car now and that is all I play.
Drum Medicine rocks........2006-03-11
This is the best cd for playing along with drums or dancing up a storm.
Incredible - can this be the work of two white men?????.......2005-09-01
You have to listen to this CD to believe it. I hear the Native American flute, drums .... it's one incredible CD. I bought it to learn to drum but enjoy listening to it just for relaxation, trance states, etc. This is superb!

If you ever wondered what ambient music is all about, you could do worse than listen to the soundtrack by Brian Eno that accompanied the stunning visuals of NASA's Apollo missions to the moon. Created with an intoxicating mixture of acoustic and electronic, the music makes the now-classic space travel images more magical and memorable, introducing a dreamlike element to scenes of cold reality. "An Ending (Ascent)" is about as close to an actual tune as you'll get, but, as with every track, a shining example of what ambient music reveals about itself--slowly and carefully. --Paul Clark
Customer Reviews:
Ambient masterpiece is a must have for any collection........2007-07-31
I used to love falling asleep to this album. Brian Eno's swirling, evolving musical textures are very conducive to relaxation. Brian is assisted by his brother Roger, and by superstar producer Daniel Lanois.
Don't wait. GET THIS CD.
A classic soundtrack to inner visions.......2007-04-06
While APOLLO: ATMOSPHERES & SOUNDTRACKS is retrospectively regarded by older Enophiles as one of his last truly great albums, it stirred considerable controversy at the time of its summer 1983 release. On vinyl, the Daniel Lanois' mood-breaking pedal steel guitar on "Silver Morning" and "Weightless" couldn't be bypassed with the click of a remote. More than one listener mistook the deep trembling tones on "Under Stars" for turntable rumble, a problem compounded by a poor domestic pressing. Since then, APOLLO has been recognized as one of Brian Eno's most elegant integrations of the ambient aesthetic with the short melodic form.
In response to a query posed below: this reissue represents only a marginal sonic improvement over the '80s EG/Jem CD. An attentive listener will note a slight increase in detail and vividness of stereo imaging, but Astralwerks' APOLLO remaster isn't in the same class as THE PLATEAUX OF MIRROR or THE PEARL, which open up layers of ethereal sound absent from the earlier editions.
Though Eno has recorded/compiled several albums with the phrase "music for films" in the title, APOLLO has proved particularly popular (beyond its original application) with filmmakers. "Deep Blue Day" reached a new generation in the TRAINSPOTTING soundtrack, and "An Ending (Ascent)" can be heard in TRAFFIC, 28 DAYS LATER, CLEAN, and the forthcoming ECSTASY.
I feel the repackaging warrants comment. Astralwerks' Original Masters series digipaks come in useless clear plastic slipcases, an environmental offense. The disc rests on clear plastic tray, the background to which is put to use for an anti-piracy warning. Throughout the series, the cover art is consistently grainy, apparently scanned from LP sleeves.
APOLLO: ATMOSPHERES & SOUNDTRACKS remains an album of eerie beauty, but this re-release doesn't render the earlier edition obsolete.
Celestial Heaven.......2007-01-10
I really enjoy New Age music that is celestial. This is one of my favorites. Anyone who enjoys music that will take your mind for a trip through the stars will enjoy this CD.
RELAXING FORGROUND.......2006-08-25
Apollo is not the best of Eno's Background/Forground ambient experiments IMHO. But it's a very very nice recording and is recommended to those who desire soothing but not corney music.
Apollo is more of a relaxing forground recording. If you are looking for Forground/Background I'd say Thursday Morning is more interesting. Thursday Morning is very unobtrusive but very interesting and spatial on closer examination.
Apollo is more straigh forward, relaxing, pretty music. I want my copy to rip onto a mp3 player for backpacking. Specifically for those moments before sleep when gazing at the stars of the Milky Way overhead. A Perfect sound track for drifting out into the cosmos.
Does anyone know if the remastered version is superior?
Fantastic ambient album.......2006-07-22
As far as this type of music goes, I think this is one of the best albums in this style. Every piece of music here is a gem. If you like music to relax to or just listen to, this is a good choice. I would say if you close your eyes, put on headphones and just listen, it feels like you are floating through a big cloud.

To give it 5 stars or more, You'd just have to understand it........2006-07-05
What can I say here that my other Eno appreciative peers haven't said. There are certain bands, certain musicians which transcend categorization, and words like "genre" or whatever the hell that word is. The poor sap who gave this album 3 stars revealed his naivety when he used the word "New Age", but at least he was appreciative (he says he'll use it for "baths and dusting").....
One Giant Step For Mankind.......2005-06-03
When I first heard this masterpiece I was transported back to the the age of imagination...imagination that became reality when Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface. It's "ambient" and strong...yet manages to encapsulate the harmonic emptiness of Space. "Under Stars" 1 & 2 are wonderfully relaxing pieces, and "Deep Blue Day" is absolutely brilliant. I love Daniel Lanois' music, especially his "Acadie" CD, and his influence here is perfectly balanced with the ethereal side of Brian Eno. If you like Brian Eno's ambient recordings (now being released on CD thank goodness!)like Music For Airports, or Pearl, this is a "must have."
pretty good new age.......2005-04-16
This is pretty cool spacey stuff. Reminds a lot of Enja and Kitaro, in that mellow soothing way. Good stuff for lying in a warm bath with or dusting around the house.
Something to Remember.......2005-03-26
This LP is just an absolutely beautiful album that flows from track to track. Theres songs on here that are so haunting that it gave me the chills, and other songs that made my heart swell up enough to keep me listening to the album a dozen times. With each listen I would find a new meaning or a new image to go with the song, and thats the great thing about this album, not only do you listen to it, but you also see it as well. It really puts you in another world, and at first it may feel a little weird, but once you go deeper and deeper into the atomosphere, you feel as comfortable with it as the very one we're in right now.
A fitting requiem.......2004-12-13
Visited the D-Day museum in New Orleans, in the summer of 2002 there was a final display, a video screen set in a blank wall, running a loop of film of a smiling crew of young men loading up the Enola [...] and what came after. No narration, no words, just the music..."An Ending (Ascent)" is the only song I could imagine that would suffice. A requiem for the biggest, most destructive war in history.

Abacus Moon by Don Harriss.......2005-09-15
Great CD. Abacus Moon is the type of music that you can listen to hour after hour. Very relaxing background music. Also great to listen too as you drive down the road. Even though it was recorded years ago, it is the type of music that is "timeless"!
great new age pianist .......2005-07-28
I FIRST GOT TURNED ON TO DON THRU A RADIO STATION IN THE MID 90'S. HE DEFINATLEY LETS HIS FINGERS DO THE WALKING AND TALKING WITH THE BEST PIECE BEING "PORCELAN SKY". ONCE YOU'VE LISTENED, YOU'RE HOOKED. SOME OF THE BEST PIANO WORK YOU WILL EVER HEAR. DON PLAYS AN ARRAY OF KEYBOARDS THAT HE BLENDS TOGETHER FANTASTICALLY! VERY MELODIC WITH GUTS AND PURPOSE. I DON'T THINK YOU WILL DISAPPOINTED IF YOU HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS GENRE OF MUSIC. B.GEE, FL.

Why is This Out-of-Print? It's Fantastic........2007-03-23
The late Eighties was rather thin culturally; this was one of the few things musically that endured in memory -- Stearns' score for the 45 minute IMAX spectacular, CHRONOS. The film was very derivative of 'Koyanniquasti' or however one spells it, but the music was anything but Phillip Glass' trademarked arpeggio epics. "Chronos" is more along the lines of high-end Vangelis (circa Blade Runner score era)--romantic, majestic, careening into the stratospheric towards the end. Why is this spectacular recording out of print? Anyone who loves space/electronica/soundtrack/trip will value this well-constructed ride.

Customer Reviews:
Know what you are looking for.......2005-11-19
Having just read the review by the computer professional I just wanted to comment the songs on this CD, including Blue Dancer, are all original compositions of Don Harriss. Clearly, this Blue Dancer heard by the professional here is a completely different song. It's not uncommon at all for different songs to have same title. A quick example, Spooky Tooth, ELO, and the Doobie Brothers all had songs entitled Evil Woman and none were cover versions of the other. If by chance the Blue Dancer heard by the professional was a cover version by another artist of this song, then it would be the cover version that "wasn't the same melody", not the original composition. Shell Game is a classic example of piano synthesizer mix of the adult contemporary/new age style of the time so prominent in the late 80's to early 90's. Comparing it today with anything currently recorded is basically comparing apples to oranges. Shell Game has several very solid tracks, most notably in my opinion Arabesque and Bridge Across the Night. This is atmopsheric music very timely for 1990 which has a timeless feel still relevant today. I am not sure what the professional was looking for. If that's an electronica, hip hop, or whatever style it is, then no someone of that taste probably wouldn't like Shell Game and I understand the professional's disappointment. But if someone's taste runs more to actual musical structure, emotional depth, and songs that do not all sound the same, then Shell Game may be a worthwhile option. I would just advise the professional, like I would anyone, to make sure you know what you are looking for, make sure what you are buying, and then ask yourself if you should really trash what you purchased when you yourself made the mistake in buying the wrong product.
Disappointed.......2005-07-26
I bought this CD because of the first track, "Blue Dancer" which I heard on GoRadio.
THIS IS NOT THE SAME SONG! It definitely _not_ the same arrangement as GoRadio is webcasting, and as far as I can tell it isn't even the same melody!
The rest of the CD is typical elevator-music new age.
Welcome to New Age!!!.......2003-03-03
Now here's a guy who puts those synthesizers to work! 'Blue Dancer,' 'Shell Game,' 'Bridge Across the Night,'--every tune, with an extraordinary beat--extraordinary in the sense that all it can do is help you to relax--no agitation whatsoever. The melodies are so beautiful! An incredible combination!! As many times as I have heard this CD, 'Blue Dancer,' helped me to relax my being, and 'Bridge Across the Night' helped me to reawaken to the world!!

Igloomag.com REVIEW ::.......2005-12-20
Review by: MARK TEPPO at [...]
(02.21.05) Deru's latest release for Merck, Trying to Remember, manifests itself in a fog of particles, as a collection of songs that struggle to express themselves through veils of static and hazy sandstorms. The songs are the breakbeat equivalent of isotope decay -- charged ions rattling against a Geiger counter with random frequency as if the source of their expression was a wild mélange of radioactive elements, a heavy metal bouillabaisse. Filled with radio static and particles of blown sand, Trying to Remember is an obscurity of memory that suggests melody more than it is actively driven by it.
"Spread Your Arms" is overrun with a gentle river of static while a single note melody pines with aching melancholy over a tiny ripple of chattering synthetics. It's the sound of the high desert sands trying to cover up a rusting piece of machinery that has lost its way. The machine struggles on towards its destination, servo-motors whining with the heat and the grit while internal alarms sound their distress with increasingly fainter calls. "The Reasons," a thirty-eight second explanation of the record, is nothing more than the processed sound of a windstorm blowing sand through an empty house. The opening of "Tapah" is a walk into the depth of the desert, past the dust devils and shifting dunes (the payoff of "Tapah" is the delicious oasis of rhythm and whispered voices that lives beyond that wall of dirt). "The Days Before Yesterday" is a Mobius strip of decrepit loops, struggling to bring themselves back into a cohesive sonic structure, but too much air has gotten into the works and the edges of the loops fragment and fracture with each iteration. The bell loops of "Only The Circle" close the record with their fading song against a rising hiss of static like sunlight dying across an expanse of wind-burned rock.
The delight of Deru's record is that it takes the crackling focus of Pole's static and locks it into an echo chamber with delicate bell tone melodies and Merck's penchant for breakbeat, spinning everything into a slowly evolving windstorm of brushed noise and fragmented downtempo. Trying to Remember is desert chillout music to follow a wild night of tribal dancing across the hard sand of the arid plateau. The summoned spirits whisper through the night with tongues of sand. This is a gorgeous record.
