Product Description
Peter FROHMADER is one of the most innovative and fascinating composer of electronic music. Even in his first album ("Nekropolis - Le Culte Des Goules" issued in 1978), this German keyboardist could impose an astonishing musical style, developed in the Eighties on soundtracks, ambient tracks, symphonies… Influenced at first by CAN and MAGMA, his albums want to be an approach to Death and Nothingness. It is not a coincidence if he's considered one of the fathers of the Gothic movement ! Composed over a six-year period (1997-2002), "Eismeer" is finally issued in early 2003, on the Gazul label. The author himself describes his work as "…A musical expedition, the movements of a boat on the sea". The polyrhythmic, the harmony and the dissonances create a meditative and dark atmosphere. This trip on an ice sea proves intense and made of an unusual musicality. Very carefully written and performed, this epic of Nothingness is a highlight of contemporary electronic music.

3 out of 5 stars Peter Frohmader - 'Eismeer' (Gazul/Musea) French import CD.......2004-10-16

I give this title a 3 1/2 star rating. This is sort of a tough one for me to review, but I'll do my best.'Eismeer' was recorded in Munich,Germany between 1996-97 and released in 2003.Total of three cuts.Haven't checked out to many discs like this one.Parts of the 37-minute title track "Eismeer" sounds like maybe a soundtrack to some deep sea flick while other segments remind me of like a progressive symphony band playing. Also some well thought out poetry from Frohmader appears a couple of times.Quite a piece of music here."Funebre" is a nice three-minute plus electronic/progressive number. The 24-minute "Orchestral Crossover" is almost as good as "Eismeer" and it seems to really get somewhat more dramatic as it goes along.I'm not the world's biggest progfan, but I do pull this CD out from time to time to give it a spin. It's pretty decent.Frohmader is noted to be majorly influenced by Tangerine Dream.'Eismeer' might appeal to fans of Heldon,Van Der Graaf Generator,Synergy Quartet and maybe some fans of Magma.

    Album Description

Peter Frohmader is one of the most innovative & exciting contemporary composers, since his first album, Nekropolis, released in 1978. During the eighties Frohmader, father of the 'gothic' movement, composed symphonies, soundtracks & ambient music. Initially influenced by Magma or Can, he developed a fully personal electronic music, an approach of Death & Nothingness. As he says, 'Eismeer is a musical expedition, a ship's movements on the sea, set to notes'. Polyrhythmic, Harmonics, disharmonic, create dark & meditative atmospheres, full of intensity & musical science. Very carefully written & performed, here is an exceptional piece of contemporary music. Musea. 2002.
