The Skeleton Key - sounds of the old South.......2007-04-11
Dark, stormy listening to take you to the marshlands of New Orleans - at times, clearly a soundtrack, but with tracks from the likes of Robert Johnson and the hoodoo beats of Iko Iko, you'll suddenly feel an inkling for Gumbo like a true bayou-dwelling Creole.
contains every compositional piece from the movie.......2006-08-04
This CD contains what I thought was every compositional piece from the movie. I was hoping the CD in general would be a little more up-beat and personally I found it a little bit boring to listen to. Listen carefully to the music of the movie becuase that is exactly what you get.
good soundtrack.......2006-01-13
If you are fan of the blues, or you simply enjoy eerie instrumental tunes, this soundtrack is for you.
It is very rare for me to find a soundtrack that contains all the songs i liked from a movie. This is the case! It even has Papa Justify's conjuration of sacrifice, those drums really take you to New Orleans Hoodoo streets. A great complement for the fans of the movie .
Review from Equalmusic.com.......2005-10-28
If you are jonesing for the way New Orleans' used to be or are kicking yourself hard because you never made the pilgrimage down before the recent tragedy, then the soundtrack to The Skeleton Key is your best bet. Like the movie, the soundtrack transports the audience into the bayou culture with such ease that at times it's almost hard to believe that you're not in fact below the Mason-Dixon Line. Released on Varese Records, it is the perfect accompaniment to the film.
Composer Edward Shearmur and the Hollywood Studio Symphony bring the flick to life with their bone chilling orchestrations that can creep you out even in the light of day. Those who dig the horror aspect of the film will be pleased with the inclusion of "Conjure of Sacrifice," a spoken track key to the movie's plot. However, the real reason to buy this release is not for its freaky facets but for its spotlight on a few of the most influential blues artists of the twentieth century.
For anyone beginning to cultivate an interest in blues, this is a great foray into the genre and its heavy hitters. First off is Robert Johnson's "Come On In My Kitchen." Johnson, who many have dubbed the father of modern rock and roll, delivers his legendary take on Delta Blues with perfection. Mississippi Fred McDowell, master of the slide guitar, whether it be bottleneck or the apocryphal steak bone, lends his "61 Highway Blues" with a kind of raw integrity.
My vote however, goes to celebrated gospel musician, Blind Willie Johnson. His "God Moves On The Water" with its crackly sound quality, delivers a sucker punch to the soul. Johnny Farmer's "Death Letter" is easily the best track the recording has to offer. Farmer, the only bluesman on the disc still alive and kicking it, loans an infectious ditty that seeps into the skin and refuses to be washed away. Haunting and beat driven, the song is given a modern remix by southern rapper, Organized Noize. The marriage of Delta and hip-hop here is flawless.
Of course there are a few missteps and oddities. Blackbud's "Barefoot Dancing" is a jarring departure from the easy bayou theme. The song is ill suited to both movie and soundtrack, a definite skipper. As is Joe Washburn's "The Goldrush," which despite its melodic back music has a whiny quality that's hard to overlook. "Do Watcha Wanna" by Rebirth Brass Band is an interesting addition. It is a lively big band song that puts one in the mood for Mardi Gras. A rare gem is The Dixie Cups' version of the old Indian Mardi Gras chant "Iko Iko." Although given sinister connotations in the film, it is a fun and upbeat addition to the disc.
Seeped in New Orleans' jazz and Cajun music, the CD captures the music of The Big Easy and its surrounding parishes with forthright conviction. With the latest disaster still a fresh wound, the soundtrack as well as the film is jarring in ways that have nothing to do with the practice of voodoo. However, it is its ability to elegantly capture the culture and feel of the place that make both worth looking into. If only for a little while New Orleans's is returned to its former splendor through the music it has become known for. I suggest seeing the movie first then checking out this superb auxiliary.
Spooky good fun!.......2005-09-01
I bought this soundtrack mostly for the song that played during the opening and end credits, "Death Letter" by Johnny Farmer (with some fun added drum beats and enhancement by Organized Noize). The song (as well as the rest of the soundtrack) was mixed by Chris Fogel. The rest of the soundtrack is a mix of old bayou songs and Edward Shearmur's shamelessly delicious score. It's spooky with a taste of the old South. It's a lot of fun and one of the most entertaining soundtracks I have heard in a while.

A Must for Runway Fans.......2007-06-27
For those of us who are forever loyal to the fast-paced, fabulous Bravo hit, this is a must-have. You'll enjoy every track. It's just pure fun.
However, it will make you miss the show and you'll need to buy the previous seasons on DVD just to get by until the next one!
Enjoy!
buy it!.......2007-04-21
this is an excellent compilation of music suitable for any fashion show or fashion party. there are eighteen tracks and while you may like some better than others they are all good solid choices. i'm glad i bought this!
I don't own the CD, but..........2007-02-01
FYI, the bonus track "Doggy Fun" is the song that was playing when Uli's Fasion Week collection was on the runway. Those who watched the season 3 finale and are interested in Uli's music will want to check out the CD.
The other 3 Fashion Week runway songs are not on this disk. Laura's collection-song is called "Laura's Zest" by Spot On Sounds (Sam Shaffer and Adam Balazs), not on CD to my knowledge but is somewhere on the esnips dot com site. Jeffrey's collection-song is called "Swing", by Jeffrey's band which is called Lifter and features Jeffrey on bass and Mike Coulter on vocals; also not on CD to my knowledge but available at the facecrime dot com site. Michael's collection-song is called "Runaway", I don't know if it's available anywhere.
(I'm sure this CD is fine. ;-)

This CD is a relax in a tub of bubbles or on a good feeling memory trip. There are a couple of suprise artist with in duets with Michael that will blow your mind. You can invision yourself walking on the beach with the warm breeze touching your body. Enjoy!
Doesn't get any better..........2005-05-06
than Michael Franks. I heard this in a friend's car, and was spellbound - I had no idea who Michael Franks was at the time. Needless to say, I went a-searching, and fell in love with his utterly different, unique style.
Fantastic album, particularly 'Now Love Has No End' and ' Mr. Smooth'.
Great New Start, Great Finish.......2002-11-08
"Barefoot On The Beach" has the distinction of being both debut and swan song for Michael on Windham Jazz. Currently Michael is without a label but is touring stateside. "Barefoot" has Michael playing with contemporary Jazz, all these songs have hooks suitable for Jazz radio airplay. "Now Love Has No End" is an optimistic duet featuing Valerie Simpson, her voice beautifully compliments Michael's. There are really no surprises here, Michael still has his conversational singing style as he does all his other releases, he just played with the soundscape a little. The scatting employed in "Mr Smooth" is a bit of a departure, as is the blanking of the "F" word in the fade out. Hey, we are having an adult conversation after all.
"Bare______on the beach".......2002-07-21
sunset on the beach, or candle light in your home with your loved one. if you listen to this whole album, you will be more than barefoot by the last song. enjoy.

Beautiful Music.......2007-04-03
saw these folks last evening in a small setting of about 100 people. The music is much like Secret Garden and others in that vein. It is surprising how much music two individuals that know what they are doing can make. It is relaxing with Celtic influences throughout the CD. Good stuff.

Album Description
Barefoot Jerry released several acclaimed albums between 1971 & 1977, all of which featured an ever-changing line-up of top Nashville musicians. Guitarist Wayne Moss remained the one constant member, (having previously played with Brenda Lee's backing band in the early '60s and later featuring on Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde). By the time of the 1976 LP, Keys To The Country, Wayne Moss had assembled a new line-up of the band, which now included bassist Terry Bearmore, guitarist Jim Colvard, keyboardist Warren Hartman and special guest, Charlie McCoy. The same line-up (without McCoy) recorded the band's final album, 'Barefootin', the following year. Those final two albums now appear together on this CD, which has been digitally reproduced from the original master tapes. The accompanying 12 page CD booklet features full lyrics to every track, plus reproductions of the sleeve artwork from both original LPs.

living in Nashville i've been a Barefoot Jerry fan from the moment i heard them. i remember getting in to see them at the Exit/In several times when i was "under age" lol....these two albums, while good, are not as good as "Watchin' TV w/the Radio On" and "You Can't Get OFF w/Your Shoes On" but worth it to complete the collection.

More great BLUES from JON BUTCHER.......2004-01-12
This is my 2nd JON BUTCHER CD and looking at the used prices, may well be the best value for money BLUES cd on the market.
This is good solid rocking electric blues by a great guitarist.
Not all songs are top drawer, but there are some standouts and the overall quality is excellent. If you like the guitar and the BLUES, you can't go wrong, this delivers.
A Berefoot Jon Butcher Is Serving Up The Blues.......2003-10-11
It has arrived, The way the blues should be: Intelligent, Thought provoking and Very Well Played. Jon Butcher and his friends serve all this up and more on 14 songs of pure blue heaven. Take any song and enjoy. Some of my Presonal Favorites are "Jealous Man", "Box of Miracles", "It Hurts Me Too", "Foolish Behavior", "Red Handed" and "Blackbird". Keep up the great work. I Hope To Hear More From Barefoot Servants In The Near Future!!
Rockin' Blues at its Best.......2003-07-22
I abolutley love this album...it's certainly Jon Butcher at his best. "Better Off Dead" is a classic hard rock-n-roll song, which leads into Blackbird which is a classic hard rockin' blues song (in the vein of some of Led Zep's blues songs). The album rocks with the best of 'em. Too bad the Servants didn't stick around, because there certainly ain't many bands that can rock like this.

Up beat & amazing /will get you moving and loving life to the beat.......2006-04-17
I've had my cd since 1991. Every time I've played it at a party it never fails to bring people to the cd player asking WHAT and WHO is this!? Fun, eclectic, amazing free form beats. From playing during outdoor community party's all the way to kids trampoline jumping classes, this music has followed my life through its many changes. First heard at Mr. Toot's cafe in Capitola, California when the entire cafe started jumpin'. People were movin' in their seats, around the tables and everyone was just lovin' life together for a precious and rare hour. Best music I have. Really - get this cd!

Extremely seasoned multi-cultural musicians performing the ultimate in tribal jazz blending. Primal cool, Daddy-O!!! Iron your favorite loin cloth n'take those shoes off.
Barefoot Dance.......2003-07-11
Cool Earth Jazz. This is infectious acoustic jazz dance music, fun unplugged. Rhythm from all over the world Latin, Jungle, African, it's all there, beautiful. Production values are sky hi. This is a CD to show off your sound system, The music is complex, spatial and worth listening to on a really good stereophile set up. I said fun, you bet, the name of the CD and the group stems from the urge to dance barefoot when they play. Try it you could find yourself dancing as well.
