Millennium
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
In a startling and exciting change of style, Medwyn has embraced the ambient end of the musical spectrum, charting innovative electronic soundscapes on MILLENNIUM, his 25th CD/CS for New World Music.
When MEDICINE WOMAN by Medwyn Goodall was released by New World Music, no one could have dreamed that it would help introduce millions of listeners to the style of music now known as New Age. Rather than the sonic wallpaper that characterized most ambient recordings of the 80s, Medwyns contemporary textural works can be described as journey music because they take you somewhere deep inside your mind, stimulating the imagination to explore wonderful new reveries. Medwyn Goodall has proven time and again to be a master guide as well as musician, for his previous New World Music albums can all be characterized as inner explorations in sound, or sonic adventures for those who dare to dream.
Like any musician, I have early influences, and MILLENNIUM allowed me to openly acknowledge them and their work: Mike Oldfield, early Genesis, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Vangelis, and much of the 1970s mystical rock scene. MILLENNIUM finally allowed me to let my hair down and play in a manner in which Ive wanted to for years. The music came very naturally and easily; in fact, MILLENNIUM was one of the easiest albums Ive ever produced.
The biggest element of change on MILLENNIUM was my electric guitar performance; this was the first album where I allowed myself to use a guitar so powerfully. Most of the solos happened in one take, so the there is a freshness and spontaneity that characterizes each track. I also like the idea of MILLENNIUMs having long, sweeping themes made up of mini-tracks; almost like suites punctuating a classical structure. The entire album is re-inventing itself every time you listen; changing elements and instruments from section to section in a highly creative way posed a technical challenge, but also helps the music to keep moving while its morphing. Great fun!
Instrumentation: Guitar; Keyboards, Flute; Harp, Piano; Percussion.

Customer Reviews:
A talented musician, amazing inventor and a lovely man!!!.......2007-07-30
I LOVE Les Paul! My parents danced to Les Paul music in 1946. I've always listened to his music while still living with my parents in the 70s. He has this amazing guitar sound but I didn't realize till this year when my son wrote a report about him that he invented the electric guitar and is also responsible for the "reverve", or over-dubbing technique all musicians use today! He is now 92 and still performs at the Iridium in New York City[..]. This CD is representative of his wonderful music and fine guitar playing. But to see his superb musicianship, catch him in person. This legend is my hero.
A must have for Les Paul enthusiasts.......2007-05-10
I suppose I am fortunate enough to have seen Les Paul live at the Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway in NYC on April 30, 2007 and aquire this CD and then have the cover autographed by Les Paul himself. His contribution as an inventor, innovator, musician and most importanlty a wholesome person is what makes his existance so very impacive to the music world.
This best of CD in my opinion is just a a sample of the rest of his best of material. Yes, this is a must have, but there is so much more out there of Les as well as it's hard to capture the man and his music in such a small sampling. Take for instance his work with Bing Crosby and other legends such as Chet Atkins who Les and Chey put out a Grammy winning album in one take (yes, one take - Amazing!).
I also suggest reading about the impact Les has had on many of the greatest musicians to play the guitar, including many of those not featured on thi CD such as Jimmy Page and others.
If you can ever make the trip to the Iridium, I highly recommend it. Les is getting any younger, and I am glad I had the chance t see this living legend play while he still is able to do so. Les is a class act and a gem to listen to.
A talent ready to explode.......2007-04-23
Before Les Paul landed at Capitol Records in the 50's, he recorded these sides as a small combo leader and sideman for Decca. I had never heard any of these before. Early recordings are often the most revealing. Finding these is a wonderful surprise!
There is nothing slick or contrived here. Just Les' wonderful talent in a very satisfying context. This cd showcases young Les Paul on the launching pad ready to take off on his amazing and influential career.
This cd will remain in my changer in heavy rotation.
A throwaway.......2002-08-31
A few weeks ago I heard a wonderful performance by Les Paul and Marian McPartland on her Public Radio jazz program, and I promptly ordered this CD. Much to my disappointment, it finally arrived. I found it to be, at best, soporific. I'll probably give it to my father-in-law, who may find an appreciative space for it on the shelf next to Lawrence Welk.
Five stars for music...one star for length.......2002-06-08
I see that the other reviewers are rating this CD on the basis of the wonderful music on it. I agree completely that it is nearly magical. However, one really wonders, could they only find 33 minutes worth of material to include on a "Best Of" for one of the most important and innovative American musicians ever? I think it is absolutely insulting to Les. His accomplishments could easily (and probably have) fill a boxed set. However, try to not let it bother you that you have been [messed over] by Decca/MCA and just enjoy the music. It is truely majestic.

Classic Everly - A Must for all their Fans.......2007-02-18
Treat yourself to the sweet harmonies of the Everly Brothers, with a CD that has been remastered to underscore their pure sound. Played this for my musician son in law who was not familiar with their music and he is so impressed. All the hits are here, sounding better than ever. An outstanding addition to your collection --
The BEST Everly Brothers album you will ever need, .......2007-01-10
Long ago in californialand, i heard the last everly brothers "hit", on the wings of a nightingale, 1 time and i knew I HAD to have it. Took me about 20 years to find it, in this album. If you really like good music, with tight harmonies, good guitar work, words you can understand, a little bit of country and early rock to the still bitchin, fresh, updated sound of nightingale, then STOP RIGHT HERE and get this album. Enough said!
Everly Brothers, best of.......2007-01-09
The Millennium collection seems to have the songs I always want from a group or artist. The quality of the sound is there everytime. As the local music stores disappear it is good to be able to trust a system like this as I replace much of my vinyl for a CD collection. This CD gives me what I want for the Everly Brothers in one purchase.
The Best.......2004-04-01
Any fan who appreciates the Everly Brothers has to have
this album. The remastered sound is superb of course, but
the deciding factor on this one should be the inclusion
of their last hit, after more than 20 years had passed since
their previous one.
After the team reunited, one of their biggest fans wrote
a song especially for them. Paul McCartney wrote "Wings of
a Nightingale" for them, and it is a truly beautiful song
that displays their harmony at its best, and the song is
not usually found on other collections.
Get the best of all their classic early hits, plus this
last hit.
A must have for any fan.

Excellent.......2007-03-29
I remember my father listening to these songs way back in the late 70s. After hearing them over and over, I got to like them too. Whenever I hear them on the radio now, it always brings good memories. My favorites "Easy," "you bring me up" and "Sail On." These songs are classics. Excellent melodies and vocals.

I WAS LOOKING FOR THE SONG OH NO AND I FINALY FOUND IT ON THIS CD. I CAN`T WAIT TO GET IT.THIS CD BRINGS ME BACK TO WHEN I WAS A KID.
Lady, They Were Brought Up .......2006-03-06
There are just so many times when it comes to making a good hits package, they can be either good or bad, but the cases with the 20th Century Masters Millenium Collection has been either a considered hit or miss when it comes to showcasing a artist definitively. That has been the case with so many acts like Joe Cocker and Rod Stewart and classic Motown legends like Diana Ross and The Temptations. For The Commodores, the group hasn't been around in years, but there is always the possibility of finding a good hits package all theirs, following the R&B legends from Alabama.
The Commodores 20th Century Masters Millenuim Collection is a simple and convient reflection behind one of the most unique R&B groups of the 70's and 80's. The collection does a really good job at highlighting Lionel Richie and company. The songs here are arguably as simple and definitive as you could expect. The compilation includes some great party anthems like Brick House and Machine Gun, as well as classic ballads like their tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson on Nightshift, Sweet Love to even simple ballads like Three Times A Lady and Easy. While there are a lot of great tracks here, there are a couple of disadvantages to the record. One of them is that the album overhadows tracks like the Funk track Girl, I Think The World About You and Zoom. Not only that, but the tracks on the collection weren't remastered as well as well as other collections like the 1997 Ultimate Collection of The Commodores.
Despite a few flaws, The Commodores 20th Century Masters Millenium Collection is a very simple and straight forward reflection of one of the best 70's groups of all time. This is a very inexpensive, but mostly well-thought out reflection of Lionel Richie & Company. If you are on a budget and really want to get your groove on, I absolutely suggest this great album.

More "Lionel Richie" than "Commodores" but..........2005-12-29
This 20th Century Masters is the best I've heard in the whole "20th century" series, but doesn't do too good a job at spanning the Commodores lifespan. Before Lionel Richie became a household name, The Commodores were mostly funk, as can be seen in "Brick House," the group's biggest hit, but beyond that song, the disc doesn't cover that side of the group very well at all.
But, I still give the compilation a perfect 5 star rating, because even though it covers a pretty narrow portion of the band, it covers the BEST portion. Lionel's ballads aren't nearly at the same level of genius as some of Marvin Gaye's or Stevie Wonder's greatest work, but I think they're just as enjoyable. Songs like "Sail On" and "Just To Be Close To You" will simply never get old.
I absolutely love this CD, it's one of the most played in my collection, but if you're looking for a true Commodores overview, you might want to look elsewhere.
Nothing But The Hits.......2004-04-23
A Good Deal for 5.99 at Costco! Has every major hit of the commodores career!

Is it funky enough for ya?.......2007-07-29
I may be only 24 years old, but the Ohio Players are a great group. My favorite songs on this album are Fire, Skin Tight, and the hottest slow jam ever, Heaven Must be Like This. It is meant to make you jam. A true collector's item.
Memories.......2007-05-16
I moved to Chicago in the late 70's from Connecticut and I was blessed to work for the Ohio Players Personal Manager. I was 21 yrs old and it was my first job in the music industry. When I hear their music it brings back the exciting life that I lived and it brings back wonderful personal memories for me
True Funkmeisters.......2007-04-10
I was lucky enough to see these guys perform at a FREE outdoor concert in Lower Manhattan around 2002, and let me tell you, they were KICKIN' IT. The horn section was real tight, and the lead singer still has all the funk of his earlier years. It was truly a beautiful event!!!!!!!!
How can you NOT feel the funk of Roller Coaster or Skintight??!!
Ohio Playas.......2006-03-07
These are my homeboys from Ohio and they know how to throw a party! They have several CD's but this one does it for me with the two slow tracks I want to be Free and Heaven must be like this. Sugarfoot made a CD on his own which I like but I can't find. Does anyone know where to get it has songs on it like I'm your Sugar etc...
SERIOUSLY FUNKED UP!.......2005-05-21
This is one funked up album! I bought this cd, mainly for
Fire, and Love Rollercoaster. But Skin Tight, is really
great, and Sweet Sticky Thing is too! Almost every song
on here is good! If you have an ounce of soul in your
system, and you love funk, THIS IS A MUST HAVE!

The Girl Next Door: 1960s Teen Queen Leslie Gore.......2007-08-02
Leslie Gore's fame came like a bolt from the blue: a pretty, sixteen year old from Tenafly, New Jersey, she was in the right place at the right time to record "It's My Party" under the supervision of Quincy Jones--and the result was one of the great hits of 1963, a bouncy, danceable, and extremely memorable bit of teen-angst rock and roll.
"It's My Party" was such a monster hit that it is tempting to think of Gore as one of those singers who appeared and then vanished with equal speed. That isn't true. She survived the 'English Invasion' and released about twenty top forty hits throughout the 1960s; it was not until the advent of the psychedelic movement that her star began to fade. Like most compilation recordings, THE BEST OF LESLIE GORE includes the most obvious selections: "Judy's Turn To Cry," a musical sequel to "It's My Party;" "She's A Fool;" the surprisingly feministic "You Don't Own Me;" "That's The Way Boys Are;" and "Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows," among others. The latest recording included is "California Nights," which charted in the top twenty in 1966.
Although Jones drifted out of Gore's career fairly early on, most of her best-sellers followed the pattern he established: bouncy, bright, deeply layered in terms of music and back up vocals, and all of it very much the "All American Girl" singing about love, loss, and forever. It was all very slick--and perhaps too slick for her own good, for when styles began to change Gore came to be regarded as excessively 'white bread.' All the same, it would be a mistake to dismiss Gore's vocal talents. She did not have a broad range, nor did she have a sophisticated approach to her material (indeed, the material hardly allowed for it)--but she had an impressive directness, and more than that she had her own voice. Even in an era awash in 'girl singers' and 'girl groups,' Gore never sounded like anybody but herself, and no one else ever sounded quite like her. She stands apart from the crowd.
Like most items in the 20th Century Masters series, the songs here could use a remaster--but I didn't find them as badly presented as some have claimed. This is a nice little collection that would be a very good introduction to the Girl Next Door of the early 1960s. Recommended.

The Best of Leslie Gore.......2007-07-23
Now this disc really takes this Baby Boomer back to the days when she was a major star. The music is still fun tro hear and to sing along with. This is the type music that grandparents should let their grand kids listen to once in a while compared to this Hip Hop whatever .

Leslie Gore: The Best of Lesley Gore.......2007-05-21
Best memories in this one. Johnny's Girl loves Leslie's music....how can she not? The Best! And California Nights tops it off.
Wonderful.......2007-05-15
Many years ago, I would have never even considered purchasing this collection, but a broadening of musical horizons can be a good thing. Not sure what's going on but lately the 50's and 60's, plus every pioneering band or artist in many genres of music I have been seeking out.
Everyone knows "It's My Party", but it was a couple songs "I Don't Wanna Be A Loser", and "Judy's Turn To Cry", and then one day I heard "You Don't Own Me" on the radio and that was all it took for me seek out this best of set from Gore; and really I believe I like or love every song on here. I guess it's her vocal delivery, her voice is fine, but it's just the style...it almost fits into an early alternative perhaps vibe that struck me, like something fresh even in the years 2006 and 07 since I first starting to really listen to her music. To be honest I'm pretty much fed up with todays female pop and/or top 40....nothing really grabs me other than a handful like KT Tunstall, Amy Winehouse, Beth Hart, Alanis Morissette, Aimee Mann to name a few. I'm a fan of Liz Phair, and of course some old school like Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Suzi Quatro also, so female singers and musicians is a big musical interest also of course.
That Lesley was so young when she made these records is indeed a major factor, and her views seem cut right from todays world, these songs seem written especially for her, and she does make them her own even there were the songwriting teams even back then even, that was probably the thing that spoiled it a bit for me, but Lesley was something like 16 or 17 years old around the time of these recordings I think and it's classic stuff from the 60's, and I just can't get enough so I'll take it over many of todays acts. Do yourself a favor and check her out, and hear some influential music from a different and sometimes not so different era, I did and really I'm glad I did.
Everything on here is amazing I think, not a subpar track to be found, all major hits for her, perfect if you want her chart toppers only, if you are brave I guess you could get an expanded version of her greatest all time minor hits also on another CD, but for my money this is all I need. 3 or 4 years ago I only new one song by her, and now I have 9 or 10 other favorites!
Splendid!.......2007-03-29
Lesley Gore had the ability to hit every note and make us long for her insight into love's complexity. All are worthwhile, but "Look of Love" is the cream of the crop "Here I stand, all by myself, watching him with someone else - bet he doesn't even know I'm here - wish I could hold back my tears ..." is right on target. The Phil Spector-like arrangement is over the top and adds to this superior song. But really, "She's a Fool" and "Maybe I Know" are classics in their own right - well sung, well phrased and, well, just perfect. This is a must-have for anyone longing for the days where the most thorny problem we faced was "who should I take to the sock hop."

The oft-touted critical notion that pop music revivals are usually spawned by reactionary nostalgia founders miserably when trying to explain swing music's resurgence, a renaissance seen over by latter-day hipsters born three decades after the music's supposed demise. A better explanation can be found on this 12-track Andrews Sisters sampler: vibrant, sassy music that's influenced artists from Bette Midler to the Manhattan Transfer and beyond. Starting as purveyors of typically serene ballads in the late '30s, the Andrews' tight harmonies virtually became the nation's soundtrack during the war years when wed to swing (the era-defining "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy") and even influences as seemingly far afield as blues ("Shoo-Shoo Baby") and calypso ("Rum and Coca-Cola"). Culled mostly from their stellar '40s prime, this collection serves as a great introduction to a stellar career--and a fine rationale for swing's unexpected modern blossoming. --Jerry McCulley

Andrews Sisters Rock.......2007-05-13
I love this CD!! I play it all the time now and my 2 young daughters love it too. We walk aroung singing "Hold tight..." and I've played it for my friends as well. We think it's a hoot that these girls were really jammin back in the 40's and the big bands in the background are amazing!
ANDREW SISTERS.......2006-08-06
HAD THE THE RECORD BEFORE. I HAVE NO MORE RECORDS, I HAD TO GET THE CD. IT'S GREAT TO HEAR THEM SING AGAIN!
Short as an old 33 1/3 r.p.m. .......2006-01-20
Most of these songs are classic, but the disc is too short for it's own good. Clocking in at 35:48 with only 12 songs. Ouch! Well, I guess you can look at it like an old 33 1/3 rpm. Just hit the pause button after track 6. Take a deep breath or go to the bathroom or fix a drink. Then hit the play button.
But seriously, there are so many countless trinkets missing from a collection called, "20th Century Masters: The Best of the Andrews Sisters, The Millennium Collection," wow, that's a bit long winded. But, with a title like that you ought to have Rhumboogie, Beer Barrel Polka, Well Alright, Straighten Up And Fly Right, Rumors Are Flying, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice introduction but just too short.
Buyer beware!
Finally, why can't these compilations of old 78's have a few more seconds between them? Essentially we have a bunch of singles all crammed together, so why not let them have some breathing room. As I recall, the UK Beatles albums from 1963-1966 had a seven second break between songs. I loved it! It was like giving each song it's own spotlight. Oh, the days of one song at a time.
great music.......2004-08-20
If you don't like this CD, you just don't like music. The only thing missing here are the tracks where the Andrews Sisters sang back up for Carmen Miranda, that would make this collection complete, but I guess they were concentrating on the Andrews Sisters as the headline act.
Greatest FEMALE Vocal Group Ever.......2003-01-12
When I was a kid, Bette Midler had a huge hit single, BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY, and this was my introduction to The ANDREWS SISTERS. Thank you both, BETTE & LINDA RONSTADT for exploring the past and reviving what so many many of us, your audience, missed as a result of being born decades later. The ANDREWS SISTERS were part of the music my parents heard when they were young, and what great singers, REAL SINGERS(!), my parents were blessed to have entertain them, as well as inspire the singers of my generation! THE ANDREWS SISTERS are definitely, by far, the greatest female vocal group of all time, not only in Pop, but also classic JAZZ! Those beautifully sung harmonies and impassioned solo performances are unequaled in all of music history. These girls out perform the Supremes! I would also like to know, since the Andrews Sisters recorded over 1800 songs during their career, why are only the same two to four dozen songs only available and was there ever a Box Set? There is a bit Pop, Jazz, Swing, boogie woogie style rock and roll here way before Elvis even recorded any, just plenty of great music to entertain anybody for hours. The ANDREWS were not only an institution of entertainment during the WWII era, they were also ahead of their time, as many of their recordings demonstrate. Gorgeous ballads, mid tempo floor shufflers, and lots of upbeat swinging dance numbers here! The ANDREWS' vocals are always center & up front on all their recordings and they sound perfectly mixed above the bright horns and inspired orchestra players. WOW - 60 years ago and they sound better than current Top 40 radio artists! Getcha an ANDREWS SISTERS, Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, etc. CDs - fill your multidisc player, hit the "shuffle button" and have yourself a great BLAST of FUN!

Rare Earth Takes Me Back..........2007-03-13
I just heard the 20-plus minute version of 'Get Ready' for the 1st time in over 20 years, on XM radio (the Boneyard) and it brought back memories of that time, growing up in S.F. We used to try to dance to the entire song,(hard to at times because of the changes in tempo)and falling down from side-aches and laughing too much. The whole cd is some of the best music of its' time. I just went out and bought it! Happy Memories.....
A MUST BUY CD.......2007-01-12
this collection of their hits are excellent in quality and sound and also in variety. i was always looking for the long versions of GET READY, I KNOW I'M LOSING YOU, AND MA. this cd has it all. very well satisfied with my cd.

Rare Earth 20th Century Masters=Best Of Rare Earth.......2006-12-28
First Thing That Surprised Me About This CD Was The Quality Of The Sound! The Detail Was Great. I Am Surprised By The Quality Of The Masters Series, I Also Have Donna Summers Greatest Hits In This Series And It Is Also Very Well Done.
But Back To Rare Earth: Having, Get Ready and Ma on The Same CD Is Awesome. I have Not Heard Either Song For Some Time And It Was Really Great. I Have Ribbon/Planar Tweeters And The Guitar Solo From Get Ready Just Sizzles....AMAZING! Oh Yes! I Had To Adjust The Volume Slightly...Upwards That Is And Its OK To Adjust The Subwoofer Also. Good Party CD!!!
GREAT CD.......2006-12-24
AN EXCELLENT COLLECTION, I DRIVE NIGHTS AND THIS ONE KEEPS ME UP!! ONLY DRUM SOLO AS GOOD AS INNA-GODDA-DA-VIDA BY IRON BUTTERFLY.

Customer Reviews:
The music of Jobim forever supplies us with the soundtrack to our passions..........2007-06-09
Antonio Carlos Jobim weaved a magic spell with his music the way few songwriters ever can; and he sang wonderfully as well. He truly invented Bossa Nova music in the late 1950s with João Gilberto; and for this he deserves to be in the history books forever for his fine contributions to the world of music.
The CD starts off with the smash hit "The Girl From Ipanema." Astrud Gilberto, Joao Gilberto's wife, sings the part of the vocals that are English. Although some may say that Astrud "sang flat;" her voice imparted a sense of natural sensuality and honesty that few professional singers ever achieve. The Portuguese lyrics are also beautiful even if you don't understand precisely what they mean--this song is THAT good.
Another major early hit for Jobim follows; the song entitled "Desafinado (Off Key)" shines like gold. Jobim plays piano on "Desafinado (Off Key)" while both Astrud and João Gilberto sing to perfection. Stan Getz does a great saxophone solo on this classic track, too. In addition, "Só Danço Samba" continues the romantic, enchanting early '60s Bossa Nova flavor; Jobim is on guitar and again Stan Getz accompanies the rest of the crew with a flawless saxophone performance.
"Insensatez (How Insensitive)" features Astrud Gilberto once more as she sings the lyrics to this melancholy ballad. The Marty Paich Orchestra performs a very well done musical arrangement; and Jobim also plays guitar for this number.
"Amor Em Paz (Once I Loved);" Água De Beber" and "Samba De Uma Nota Só (One Note Samba)" provide us with three magical instrumental numbers. The sophistication of the musical arrangements showcase the genius of Jobim's music and artistry; and the Brazilian beat enchants you with its captivating beauty. I love those strings and the piano on "Samba De Uma Nota Só (One Note Samba)!" SMILE
"Wave" and "Tide" boast smooth as silk arrangements by Claus Ogerman and Eumir Deodato, respectively.
The CD track set ends fittingly with Jobim's "Passarim," a number from the late 1980s. The vocals on "Passarim" reflect great forethought and good judgment. In addition, the track set proceeds in chronological order; this illustrates the development of Jobim's artistry very well.
The liner notes include an essay about Jobim and his career by Steven Ivory; and you get the song credits and the years in which they were recorded. The artwork exceeds my expectations with good use of color and a great black and white picture of Jobim on the front cover.
I highly recommend this CD for Jobim fans and fans of Bossa Nova music everywhere. If you want to get acquainted with Jobim's work but you can only choose a single CD to buy you can't go wrong with this one.
Enjoy!!!
Excellent!.......2007-05-12
This CD took me right back to my days in the early 60s of babysitting for young couples and listening to all of their albums. If you like bossa nova, you couldn't ask for more than this CD. Jobim is the master.

For their hard-core under-18 fans, of course, the Backstreet Boys are all that, and a bag of chips and free soda to boot. Millennium, the follow-up to the quintet's umpteen-million-selling debut, offers more reasons why so many of the rest of us have found a place for them in our hearts. The Boys' ultrapackaged look and up-to-date production underscore the quality of their best tracks; only a churl could deny that "I Want It That Way" is one fine radio-aimed declaration of love, or that "Larger Than Life" makes the most of its Daft Punk sample and double-edged acknowledgment of Backstreet followers' loyalty. And who can resist an album-closer like "The Perfect Fan," Brian Littrell's ode to his mom? --Rickey Wright

Heart-stoppingly good........2007-01-18
I remember listening to this album for the first several dozen times, I had to remind myself to breathe. It is so rare that an album comes along that you can listen to every track of, let alone an album that you love every second of.
Part of the appeal of this album is in knowing that it was and is so incredibly popular around the world. Musically the album is a definite step up from their first album (first two if you're not american). I love their early work as well, but there is no denying that the group is more unified, got better songs, and ended up with a better product on this album. They have all matured vocally, and in particular Nick has improved greatly, stepping further into the limelight.
The only thing better than listening to this cd was hearing it live in concert. Buy it!
This is one of the albums that shows that the Backstreet Boys are maturing.......2006-11-17
OK, before we go any farther here, I want to point out something that I probably should've pointed out a long time ago. I'm 18 years old and I am still a Backstreet Boys fan. I have been listening to them since the later half of 1998 and I still listen to them today in 2006. These guys are one of my favorite singing groups (the Beach Boys happen to be my other favorite). I am going to try something different in this review... I am going to rate each song, just like I have seen other reviewers doing. So, here goes.
1. Larger Than Life- this is one of my favorites on this CD. Nick and Brian are my favorite Backstreet Boys by the way.
2. I Want it That Way- Another one of my Favorites... I don't think I've seen the video for this one yet... although I have seen the Burger King version of this video, back in the day when Burger King was sponsering these guys (Or something like that), but I have never seen the actual video.
3. Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely- This one I HAVE seen the video for. It is kind of sad, but it's very good.
4. It's gotta Be You- I don't normally listen to this song much, but I like it all the same.
5. I Need You Tonight- Yay! Nick gets a solo on this song! This one is really good to listen to. When the Boys first started out, this song used to be called Heaven In Your Eyes or something like that. I don't know what the full story behind this one is, though.
6. Don't Want You Back- I love this song too. In the Burger King special, my favorite part is where AJ goes "BSB 2000 Break it down for me Rok" when they are perfoming this one in the Video.
7. Don't Wanna Lose You Now- I don't really care for this song, hardly.
8. The One- This is another good song by BSB. Again one of my Favorite Backstreet Boys gets a solo.
9. Back To Your Heart- I like this one, another one of my favorites.
10. Spanish Eyes- Great Song. This is a song where I think mostly Brian and Howie get to sing lead vocals.
11. No One Else Comes Close- I think that is what this song is called. I don't pay much attention to this one anyway so it really doesn't matter.
12. The Perfect Fan- This song is awesome! Brian Littrell did a wonderful job with the lyrics as well as with the backing choir that sang with them. Good Job, Brian!
There! I did it! Anyway, I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes the Backstreet Boys.
For All With an Ear for Music.......2006-09-12
This album is great--and you don't even have to be a teenybopper to listen to it! Who says that the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC should only have fans that are under the age of 18? I mean, give me a break, people. There are plenty of full-grown adults out there who dig this kind of music.
My most favorite songs on this CD would have to be "I Want It That Way", "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", and "Don't Wanna Lose You Now".
Although the Backstreet Boys are not the same as *NSYNC, that doesn't mean they can't sing well. So why does everybody, especially critics, constantly slam these guys? I just don't understand it.
If you haven't bought a copy of this CD yet, then what are you waiting for? Fish out that wallet of yours from your pocket and go make a purchase! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
You want it this way? You got it!.......2006-08-29
This is def. the BSB's most memorable album. Highlights include "I Want It That Way" and "The Perfect Fan" - the latter being dedicated to their moms! If you're a Backstreet Boys fan, this is the album to have. If you appreciate general pop and the Boy Band era of music, you can get into this too. Not obnoxious to listen to otherwise, either.
WOW.......2006-07-10
I AM NOT A BSB FAN OR A POP FAN BUT THIS IS A TIGHT ALBUM
EVERY SONG ON HERE IS AWESOME
WHEN I GOT THIS CD I COULDN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT
SO I SUGGEST YOU BUY IT
IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY

Connie Francis Millennium Collection.......2007-05-29
This CD is Great!!! I forgot what a great singer Connie was and still is. It's wonderful to hear some of her all time hits like Stupid Cupid, Who's Sorry Now, etc. Takes me back to my high school days.
Oooh, my happiness !!!.......2007-03-09
Connie Francis possessed a wonderful voice when she was in her prime in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Her rich, warm and vibrant voice attracted much deserved attention wherever and whenever she performed. Connie performed later on in her life but the songs on this CD do indeed represent her very best work.
The CD starts off with one of Connie's signature songs entitled "Who's Sorry Now?" Connie breathes new life into this much older song; and her voice charms you as Connie expresses every little nuance in all the lyrics to this song. The musical arrangement reflects forethought; the chorus in the background adds a certain type of poignancy to this ballad. "Stupid Cupid," a song with a much more lighthearted set of lyrics, follows this. The melody is catchy and the arrangement again makes use of a chorus to enhance the beauty of the song. Connie sings this to perfection!
Other great ballads on this CD include "My Happiness" conducted by the very talented David Rose; the strings on this number complement the beauty of Connie's voice brilliantly. No wonder all of the songs on this track set charted very high! "Lipstick On Your Collar" boasts a somewhat happy, silly melody that belies the sadness Connie expresses as she sings of her man who cheated on her. "Among My Souvenirs" features Connie and the musicians in total harmony--fantastic! "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" deals with unrequited love; and "Where The Boys Are" explores Connie's desire to find her one true love.
"Mama" sports a beautiful musical intro; and Connie sings so sensitively about her late mother that you will invariably begin to think of your own mother. Many people will relate to this song; and the lyrics that are in Italian infuse this ballad with a bittersweet sentimentality that one rarely finds in even the greatest of ballads. Connie's voice is in perfect form; and the strings on this number add a certain dramatic effect that make you miss your own mother regardless of whether she is living apart from you or she has passed.
The CD ends very strong with the exceptionally upbeat "Vacation." I like how the remastering kept the slight echo effect of Connie's voice as she gleefully expresses the excitement of being young and free from school "under summer stars." This song packs such a wallop that you want to jump up and dance for joy just listening to it! The melody is so catchy that it is positively infectious; you won't forget this number anytime soon!
The liner notes have wonderful color photos of Connie and you also get an essay about Connie written by Joseph F. Laredo.
Connie Francis dominated the charts for several years in the late 1950s and early 1960s--and for good reason, too. Hers was a young, fresh voice that expressed so many emotions precisely the way people experienced them in real life. People could relate to Connie for her energy as well as the topics of which she sang.
I highly recommend this CD for fans of Connie Francis and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will treasure this CD, too.
The Best of Connie Francis.......2007-01-13
I enjoyed listening to the CD very much. I enjoy 'oldies' music but I just wish that for a millennium collection there would have been more selections on this CD. Still, I'm very glad that I purchased it.
HO HUM.......2006-05-20
Americans only seem to remember Connie for her many hits which was not her best material. It made her famous and rich and sent her career sailing farther than any other female singer. But the great Connie Francis can be found in her later work Try "Standards", the 3 South Africian collections (hard to get). You'll hear the REAL Connie. I am glad people are still buying her records, even if it is the oft time released hit collections, but she deserves better and should be acknowledged as the fine song stylist that she still is...as she currently tours and the audiences love her. Bravo Connie. You are one of the very few fine singers left that can still carry a tune. And boy can you carry it! WOW!
Saint Francis........2005-11-15
Connie Francis was the Maria Callas of Pop music. Her incredible popularity in the 1950's and early 1960's was unmatched.... she was the girl every father wanted for a daughter and every boy wanted for his girl. Her singular, sing-songy, heartbreaking voice was very similar to that of the great Patsy Cline's, partly in fact that not only did they both have that little "cry" in their voice, that almost no one can do successfully, but also in that they could take pretty much any material, no matter how minor, and make it good, sometimes great. But fame and popularity are usually followed by heartache, and Connie Francis' career was no exception. It was dominated and controlled, we later learned, by her domineering and controlling father, who made her every career decision, based on what he and the industry perceived to be her good-girl image. He famously kept a hawk-like watch on his precious commodity/daughter, including destroying the relationship with the person that she always referred to as the love of her life, Bobby Darin. Her career waned in the 1960's, due mostly to changing musical tastes, but she had forever carved out a solid niche as one of the most popular girl singers of the 20th century. She continued to perform in public, mostly in smaller venues. It was while appearing in such a place, in Westbury, New York, that the now famous, very violent sexual assault occurred , forever changing her life.
The great career, and, apparently, the great voice had ended. Bad marriages and bad business decisions followed, along with family tragedies. She retreated from public life, save for the occasional tabloid intrusion. Further publicity surrounded not only her lawsuit against The Westbury, where her assault occurred, but that the trauma of that event had caused her to permanently lose her voice. Her behavior was reported to be increasingly erratic. She further withdrew. She did not reappear for years, until she authored her auto-biography, where many of the facts from her pained past came to light. Anyone who saw her comeback on Dick Clark's show around this same period will never forget it. This girl that was so loved by so many had her voice back, and the audience reaction and the tears in Dick Clark's eyes were a natural, spontaneous, honest reaction to a totally unstaged, rare outpouring of genuine affection, that had more to do with sincere appreciation than in maybe the perfection or imperfection of her voice. About 10 years or so ago, a group of my friends and I saw that she was appearing in Ft.Lauderdale, so we thought we'd have a laugh and go see her, it'd be fun in a campy kind of way....very "Where The Boys Are." Well, any preconceived thoughts about the reasons why we were attending quickly gave way to awe at the way this lady had this audience in the palm of her hand from the moment she swept onstage. It wasn't a performance...she was there amongst friends that she knew loved and admired her. When she introduced her mother to the audience from the front row, then proceeded to sing one of her greatest hits, "Mama", directly to her in a voice that reached the heavens, well....there was not a closed jaw nor dry eye in the house, and the standing ovation that sprung up on the last incredible notes was only a reflex to true greatness. I have had very few moments like this in live performing, and I've seen alot of them. This is the kind of reaction and loyalty Connie Francis elicits, due not only in that she represents nostalgia for an increasingly bygone time and innocence, but that her natural talent and beautiful voice brought joy to so many, from grandmothers to teens to the troups in VietNam. This 20th Century Masters Collection is a good place not only to reacquaint yourself to the voice and songs that will undoubtedly bring a big smile to your face and a tear to your eye, but also for those not acquainted with this voice that was such a big part of Pop music , and allows her to remain one of the biggest selling female artists of all time. Though Connie Francis leads a very private life, and has been out of the spotlight for many years, her inherent dignity and musical legacy will always insure a big spot in the hearts of those millions that her music touched. God Bless you Dear Lady, and thanks for all the joy.
