    Album Description

Basta Socorro blends frenetic funk and deep down-tempo in an eclectic southwestern style that can only be delivered by a group like Cloud Full Of Clowns. Stand out tracks include the heavyweight anthems "Coming Down Fast" and "Sitarical", along with the introspective "Librarian vs. Bat-boy". Beginning on a trail of funk and bluegrass, through mountains of chirping backbeats and into the valley of the Mono-Tone, this is the southwestern techno movement at its finest.

4 out of 5 stars tracks *everyone* should hear.......2004-08-10

Aside from providing you with essential acid, house and funk elements, this album provides you with track six: Sitarical, a must hear for every human being on the planet.

sit down with a turkish coffee or super-dry martini and let the trance pass through you.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to say which I like better..........2004-08-09

Basta Socorro or Escape from UNM. Basta Socorro is a much more 'random' album, with songs that differ greatly in style, yet all seem to come together very well. 'Sitarical' is not only a great song, but utilises an often overlooked instrument with a unique sound, it really makes the song! You can't help but dance to most of the songs, whether you're driving, listening at home or work, the CFC's love of their music flows through. No mass-produced mainstream wanna-be drivel here, this album has your R.D.A. of musical genius and infectious rythyms!

5 out of 5 stars Lovely singing by Berganza in the Spanish idiom.......2004-02-18

This collection of songs from several Spanish zarzuelas is beautifully sung by the gorgeous voice of Teresa Berganza, the finest Rossini and Mozart mezzo of her time, and to my ears the most idiomatic and sensuous Carmen of the late 70's and 80's. She is very much at home in this Spanish "small genre," (genero chico), which is a cousin of Viennese operetta.
Berganza's voice and temperament are perfectly suited to this genre - she has a blend of beautiful singing and vocalizing suited to the Spanish dance rhythms and folk melodies that run through all these songs.
My favorite is "Cancion espanola" from "El nino judio," by Pablo Luna, which showcases the legato line that is a trademark of her singing. I also love how she colors her voice in "Las hijas del Zebedeo" by Ruperto Chapi. The composers Geronimo Gimenez and Federico Chueca, probably the best known in this turn of the century genre, are also represented.
If you don't know Berganza's lovely voice, here's a chance to hear it in a not-so-well-known repertory. This is also a chance to discover the beautiful melodies, dance rhythms and the melodrama of zarzuela.
