About the Artist
Starting with her first piano at age 5, Heather Pierson has long been involved in the world of music, and has performed professionally for most of her 26 years. Having played in many different venues, from classical recitals to coffeehouses, smoky bars to sacred ceremonies (and an impromptu appearance with rock superstar Meatloaf), Heather brings to her own original music a unique sense of how to reach many different types of listeners. Her versatility and wide range of abilities makes her music appealing to audiences of all ages. She says that her work as a musician is to help create a sense of community with her songs, to invite all to the circle, and to let us know that we do, indeed, all have a song to sing.

The Circus March is unfortunately a style of music that is often ignored, yet can be one of the most difficult things to play. Musicians almost have to have a feel for it to achieve the desired effect. Each march contained herein captures both excitement, showmanship, and even a certain degree of comedy that is associated with this style. Listening to these brings back a by-gone era of bearded ladies, roller coasters, and kettle corn. If you play this regularly, you may even begin to smell the peanuts roasting....

This is music I have not heard, or played, for years. Most impressive musicianship. And the tempos are unbelievable! For this size group, it is amazing--and nothing less would be expected.

I am a retired music teacher, and this brought me back to the times when I played in large marching bands, or smaller groups for the local rodeo, as a college student. Great excitement in listening, and being swept away to a time when I had less to worry about.

The music itself has a great affect on me, besides the impressive way in which it is delivered. Great sound. Great precision. Great music that just isn't played or used much anymore. How fun to relive those moments--especially the ones featuring the trombone.

I was specifically looking for music of the circus and this recording just blew me away. It is clean and well done -- technically speaking. The Eastman Wind Ensemble is spectacular! If you are looking for something that sounds like a circus band, this is NOT it. This is a very professional, high quality recording of some of the best march music ever composed.

When I first heard the last eleven marches on this recording; I heard them on tape, and I really enjoyed them, this was back in 1988 when I was in the seventh grade. When I moved in the winter of 1988, I lost that tape. I was very sad when I did, and it was not until the summer of 2002 that I saw this recording at amazon; 14 years later still great, and sounds even better on CD than it did on tape. This time was even better, because it has even more marches, in the old tape, it had what on this recording are tracks 17-28. Tracks 1-16 are equally good, this recording is of a great sentimental value for me...I hope you enjoy as much as I have 14 years later....

A great collection of marches not by Sousa conducting by none other than Fennell. You can't go wrong having this in your band CD collection.

      We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.

      I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.

      You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.

      I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

      i grew up in a traditional presbyterian church that had a pipe organ. i wanted a cd of many of the hymns that we sang in church sung by a choir and accompanied by a pipe organ. this cd fulfilled my wishes perfectly. the hymns are performed in a very straight-forward fashion with no show-boating or excess flourishes which is exactly what i wanted. this is not gospel music but what i refer to as liturgical music to indicate that it is religious music but not gospel music. i would give it 5 stars but there is a slight hiss. other than that the recording quality is very good.

        Alfie Boe was the best kept secret within the classical world for several years. In 2006 that secret was finally shared with the nation.         Debut CD Recorded with the Rlpo.alfie Was Nominated for the Classical Brit Awards 2007 'singer of the Year'. At the Age of 17, Alfie Started his Working Life in the Tvr Factory in Blackpool Where He was Well Known to his Colleagues for Singing Along to his Beloved Classical Music. It was on One Such Occasion that He was Overheard by a Customer who was So Impressed that He Pointed Alfie in the Direction of the D'oyly Carte Touring Opera Company Auditions. The Audition was Successful and after a Few Tours, Alfie Made the Bold Decision to Move to London and Embark Upon his Professional Training at the Royal College of Music, the National Opera Studio and Then the Royal Opera House Young Artists Programme.

          Jim Lauderdale keeps a busy schedule. In addition to writing hits for George Strait, Patty Loveless, and Mark Chesnutt, he's toured as a backing singer and guitarist with Lucinda Williams while continuing to appear with his own band. Onward Through It All, his sixth album, effects the immensely satisfying synthesis of country, rock, and pop styles that has made Lauderdale one of the most intriguing artists of the 1990s. Whether with the barely updated Buck Owens-style stomp of "You Just Know," the open-road spirituality of "Trust (Guiding Star)," or the moody, midtempo "What I Want You to Say," Onward makes another strong case for Lauderdale. --Rickey Wright

          What a fabulous album, all facets of the music and his personal feeling come sailing through. For those of you that fancy Jim Lauderdale, there is a fabulous video in which Jim performs with 4 other artists, with many close-ups and excellent sound. The video is called "Cotton-Patch Gospel". I bought my copy through Amazon.com and play it often. It is one of the most entertaining, inspiring portrayals of the gospel you will ever see.           Jim Lauderdale is a singer-songwriter who is better known for writing hits for others than for his own recording career. Jim has written for all sorts of mainstream country stars including George Strait and the Dixie Chicks and he is well liked and respected within Nashville's musical community, but relatively unknown to the outside world. That is a shame because he is not only a great songwriter, but also an amazing singer who surely interprets his own songs better than anybody else.

          Onward Through It All is Lauderdale's most recent solo album, although he has more recently released a duet album with Ralph Stanley called I Feel Like Singing Today. There are 16 songs on this latest disc and everyone of them is a gem. Lauderdale understands the conventions of country music so well that he can employ them in such a way as to make a song that you have never heard before sound like an old favorite. This is not to say that these songs are derivitive or faceless. Lauderdale singing voice is great and the arrangements are stellar. Julie and Buddy Miller as well mandolinist David Grisman sit in on various cuts, but Lauderdale is the center of the disc. His writing runs the
          gamut between aching ballads like "I Already Loved You" to rockers like "Still Not Out of the Woods". His subject matter is often more philosophical than your average fare on cuts like "Understanding Everything" and "Trust(Guiding Star)the latter of which is a collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist, Robert Hunter.

          Unfortunatley, Lauderdale seems to tour infrequently which may be part of the reason he is largely unknown, but if you enjoy Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams or just country music with integrity be sure to check out this excellent release

          OK, Jim Lauderdale might not be the greatest singer in the world, but he's one of Nashville's most accomplished songwriters. (For example, one song on this disk, WE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS, was a hit for George Straight.) There are 16 songs on this disk, and some are certainly better than others, but this is "real country" and not the stuff you hear on so-called "country" music stations. The songs are a good combination of country, blues and honky-tonk. Best of all, there is plenty of twang and more than enough lyrics that tug on your heart.

          Though principly known as a songwriter for country artists, Jim Lauderdale has always been a genre buster, fusing elements of country, rock, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, folk, and 70's-style pop into a solid catalog of songs. After several promising but inconsistant (and now out of print) solo albums, Lauderdale finally hit his stride as a performer with "Whisper." "Onward Through It All" Continues to blaze the same trail. The opener "You Just Know" would be at home on a Dwight Yoakam record. The title cut is the definitive Jim Lauderdale song. "Trust (Guiding Star)" will make you lonely for your Grateful Dead records. "We Really Shouldn't Be Doing This" was a hit for George Strait. "Please Be San Antone," "Almost Next to Nothing," and "Still Not Out of the Woods" are also highlights.

          I'm only writing this because I know nobody ever reads thesethings. But I was listening to Jimmy-jam sing for years before thisalbum -- he's my cousin, and does us the grace of playing at our family reunions. So I suppose I'm a little biased. But I don't even like country music, and I like Jimmy's songs. And I know it's refreshing to hear somebody stick so close to their roots and still be so prograssive.

          Venturing into the City (New York, of course!)one night last year in search of some tight, hard-bop jazz, I found myself at the hip Jazz Standard club. Having been a jazz fan all my life yet not being familiar with the members of One for All, I was ready for anything. Well, suffice to say that I left the club that night with my copy of Upward and Onward in hand, thoroughly impressed with each and every member of this killer ensemble. From the opening track, "D's Blues" where composer and trumpeter Jim Rotondi leads the pack through a hot, frenetic tirade with dynamite solos by all the members, through to the captivating ode, "John Coltrain" where Eric Alexander's haunting tenor sax phrases steal the show, this disc captures 6 of today's best and brightest at their craft and rewards the listener with straight ahead bop jazz with a few surprises. Veteran Dave Hazeltine plays a commanding piano. One can pick up echos of a young Oscar Peterson in Hazeltine's chord progressions and timing. Peter Wahington's bass is stylish yet subdued. Joe Farnsworth rounds out the rhythm section with a tireless, gritty mastery of the drums. Veteran trombonist Steve Davis shows his versatility by effortlessly swaying between clean, melodic solos and full, rich support work which, quite often throughout this disc, makes the listener feel as if a much larger horn section is backing the group. Giving the whole group direction is the ultra-skilled trumpet and flugelhorn playing of Jim Rotondi. If you're already a be-bop or hard bop fan, or plan to be one, this release will be sure to please.

          This is a death metal classic. If you are a fan of this genre then you must own this cd. Incantation is a band that started out brutal and have not changed their evil ways. This album is part of what I consider one of the core Relapse Records from the 90's. Raise the horns and prepare for aural annihilation.

          This is an early, and rough-sounding look at the INCANTATION SOUND. A very evil, kind of detuned black and intensely Evil sound... like a death metal Slayer, that went to Doom school, and with a ability to touch upon catchy evil melodies like the best black metal riffs. All that ecompassed in some of the deepest and growliest Death Metal to ever make it out into the world. This disc should come with an awesoem DVD of some early live performances. Very cool to see as I was about 13 when this came out... Must have for the true fans and new fans. This is an important band for death metal--that set a benchmark, and one of the earliest group of deviants on the Relapse records roster.
