Flashy, Fun, and Flamboyant.......2007-05-31
The Circus March is unfortunately a style of music that is often ignored, yet can be one of the most difficult things to play. Musicians almost have to have a feel for it to achieve the desired effect. Each march contained herein captures both excitement, showmanship, and even a certain degree of comedy that is associated with this style. Listening to these brings back a by-gone era of bearded ladies, roller coasters, and kettle corn. If you play this regularly, you may even begin to smell the peanuts roasting....
stunning musical review.......2005-09-27
This is music I have not heard, or played, for years. Most impressive musicianship. And the tempos are unbelievable! For this size group, it is amazing--and nothing less would be expected.
I am a retired music teacher, and this brought me back to the times when I played in large marching bands, or smaller groups for the local rodeo, as a college student. Great excitement in listening, and being swept away to a time when I had less to worry about.
The music itself has a great affect on me, besides the impressive way in which it is delivered. Great sound. Great precision. Great music that just isn't played or used much anymore. How fun to relive those moments--especially the ones featuring the trombone.
Nice and lively!.......2004-04-28
I was specifically looking for music of the circus and this recording just blew me away. It is clean and well done -- technically speaking. The Eastman Wind Ensemble is spectacular! If you are looking for something that sounds like a circus band, this is NOT it. This is a very professional, high quality recording of some of the best march music ever composed.
Sounds even better than when I first heard it.......2004-03-01
When I first heard the last eleven marches on this recording; I heard them on tape, and I really enjoyed them, this was back in 1988 when I was in the seventh grade. When I moved in the winter of 1988, I lost that tape. I was very sad when I did, and it was not until the summer of 2002 that I saw this recording at amazon; 14 years later still great, and sounds even better on CD than it did on tape. This time was even better, because it has even more marches, in the old tape, it had what on this recording are tracks 17-28. Tracks 1-16 are equally good, this recording is of a great sentimental value for me...I hope you enjoy as much as I have 14 years later....
A staple.......2003-06-14
A great collection of marches not by Sousa conducting by none other than Fennell. You can't go wrong having this in your band CD collection.

Groovy Classics.......2007-01-09
A great way to introduce the classics to the person who is too hip to listen to Mozart!
Remixed.......2006-06-01
Hmmmm....what can I say? Remixed is the 3rd album Bond has released, consisting of remixes of old favorites and several new tracks. For those of you who don't know, Bond is a rock string Quartet made up by 4 young women. Similar in style old Vanessa Mae.
The Album starts with an exciting opening, of Viva! (Orion Mix). This is made up from a remake of Antonio Vivaldi's Allegro from Winter (The Four Seasons). Its an enjoyable piece, very simple, but the drums and the occasional shouting of "VIVA!" makes it a great song.
The second track is a remix of one of Bond's more famous piece. Victory was a huge success, but the remix wasn't so in my opinion. The 'Sharp Boys Wild Strings Edit' was a strange one. It didn't contain much of the original. After a tedious drum beat and strange sounds for about 1 minute and 10 seconds, a short clip of strings come on the original melody. For the next minute more drums, then more repeating of the melody heard in the middle.
Third track was a remix of Wintersun. Wintersun (Bobby D'Ambrosio Mix) was basically the same, but a bit more of a disco style.
Again, with Speed (Crash Club Mix). Sam thing, but a lot more of the disco sounds. I actually found myself enjoying it more than the original! It really sounds like some one is...driving a car or something.
Fuego's remix (Caliete Mix) I also enjoyed more than the original. It has a longer introduction, and more music to back up the strings. It also has a very fast sita (sp?) solo in the middle, making it sound very Spanish!
Homecoming, Atlanta and Time are new tracks. Not my most favorites, but they are very calm, remind me of Asia. Except for Time which sort of gives you the feeling that all the clocks are moving at the same time. Bond also uses Clock sounds in the middle for effect.
Shine (Dubsharka Mix) is by FAR the best song on the album. Its a fantastic dance track, with a fantastic solo and playing in the song. Its a Bollywood styled song, making you think of India. I was a little disappointed however, since this song was released on their earlier album (Shine, 2002). Although I love it, they should have put the Indian Summer Mix on instead, which cant be found anywhere except on Atlanta/Time
Duel and Bond on Bond (Both 'Hectic Mixes') I just couldn't stand. They were absolutely ridiculous. Just having the tracks played twice as fast. If I wanted to do that, I could have gone into Media player and pressed Fast Forward x2.
The Last song is Jingle Bell Rock (Pussy Galore Mix). Its an interesting one, just jazzing up the original Jingle Bell Rock.
Overall, this album is great for something like a party, for its mainly disco music. Not the best Bond Album, but very good anyway.
However, If you are a big bond fan, I would suggest you get the Import (Includes 2 videos of Victory and Fuego) or the Japanese Edition (Includes and Extra mix of Viva!, original Jingle Bell Rock, Duel Indonesian Mix and Innocent)
Hope you enjoy this CD!
Exciting!.......2004-09-07
I got Bond's debut album a couple years ago. Although not as exciting as Vanessa-Mae's album "Storm," it was better than Vanessa-Mae's debut crossover album "The Violin Player" and approximately equal to her third album, "Subject To Change." The Bond debut had a lot of energy, but to me it was begging for a little stronger beat.
So when I found a Bond remix album late last summer, I grabbed it! How cool can that be--a Bond remix album! Whoo-hoo!!!
When I got it home and listened to it, I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't quite remixed enough. I wanted the mixes to be hotter, and the bass and drums more pronounced. But under-remixed is far preferable to over-remixed, which is a problem with Vanessa-Mae's song "Storm." This is my favorite Vanessa-Mae song; the four-minute album length is not nearly long enough for me, so when I learned there was an 8-minute remix, I just had to have it! I had to buy this Vanessa Mae CD single from a store in England (via Amazon's used CD vendors) since I could not find it stateside. And I was very disappointed: The remixer had so vastly remixed it that not only did it lose all its energy, it wasn't even recognizable! So between over-remixing and under-remixing, I prefer under-remixing, thus I am happy enough with the remixes on this Bond album. But they could have done better, I think.
Although I was a little disappointed that the mixes not being spruced up quite enough, it does not mean I do not like this album. Au contraire! I love this album! It is an album full of energy, life, vitality! It is an album that I nearly always play very LOUD! It as an album that I play when I'm wound up, feelin' good!!! Nearly every song is fast, and the beat never stops!
The album opens with "Viva!", a song that is also found on their DVD, which I bought around the same time I got this album. What a perfect song to start this album with! A sample of a group of females shouting 'VIVA!" plays from time to time throughout, adding to the energetic playing of the strings. On the DVD, this song is backed with video footage from their concert at the Royal Albert Hall in England; in the video, when the shouts "VIVA!" are heard, fireworks shoot out from the balconies and the stage at the theater--so exciting!
The next song is the remix of their first radio hit, "Victory," which starts out with a hot Latin beat and Spanish guitars. "Victory" and another track, "Fuego," feature frenetic string playing. The best song on the CD for dancing--and my second favorite song on the album--is "Duel." This has a driving bass line and percussion beat, an upfront electronic synthesizer riff, and a beautiful ethereal female nonverbal vocal accoutrement, with tubular bells even added toward the end. Spine-tingling! Wonderful!
Although "Duel" and my favorite song "Viva!" rule supreme in the degree of spine-tingling awesomeness, they're not the only ones to bring such a pleasurable reaction to me. "Wintersun" is played with deep heartfelt emotion; "Atlanta" also is full of emotion. I like "Speed" and "Time" because of their European technopop sound, especially "Time," which has a nice melodic, minor key electronic keyboard riff. "Shine" has a bit of a Spanish or Italian flair, another of many romantic flavors of this album.
There are only two songs on the album that I don't care for. One I absolutely don't like is "Jingle Bell Rock," but that's because I hate the song, not because I don't like their version of the song. If I am forced to listen to that song, I would likely choose their version. The other one I like okay, but it doesn't do for me what the rest of the songs on the album do: "Bond on Bond." This is a track of them doing the James Bond theme. A cool idea, and it works, but again, doesn't float my boat. Fortunately, these two songs are at the end of the album, so I can just end the album at the third to the last song, which is also my second favorite song, "Duel"!
Most of the DVD's music comes from their first album, while this remix CD has the best of their first two albums. I now have their third studio album, "Classified," which I like better than their first album (I don't have their second), but no surprise to me, this remix album of theirs is clearly my favorite. "Storm" by Vanessa Mae is my favorite secular album of all time, all genres combined, so naturally in the genre of classical crossover it is my favorite. Bond's "Remix" is my second favorite classical crossover album. It reaches down and touches the heartstrings of my musical soul and stirs them up to make a fabulous and emotional listening experience for me!
Remixed not recommended for "re-listening"........2004-07-27
Bond has impressed critics with their somewhat controversial performances of classical-crossovers. From using trance beats to the sounds of African drums... there is no limit to how much and what they can do to enhance classical music that they play.
With Bond Remixed however; it is quite a drag to put it simply. The album is a total re-mix album, so think of it as a compilation of single re-mixes put together. But also, there are three original tracks by Bond: Homecoming, Atlanta, and Time. All three of these tracks rely a lot on synth sounds and trance beats. Which get boring after listening to all these re-mixes, but keeping in mind that it is a RE-MIX album after all... so although the originality of Bond's previous albums: Born and Shine are not there, it is because they are re-mixed.
One of my personal favorite tracks is Viva [Orion Mix], which for those who have the Bond Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD all should know (For those who do not know, it is an extra video on the DVD, a live performance of Viva). Though I would have to say it takes repetition of classical music to its red line. Another great track to listen to is Jingle Bell Rock [Pussy Galore Mix]. Great example of good trance, combined with classical sounds. Bobby D'Ambrosio's mix of Winter, originally named Wintersun, is interesting enough by creating a new intro into the song. The rest of the song is shorter with a different beat.
The rest of the tracks seemed to use the original songs, but just add a different beat, more bass, and more synth. It puts the name of "re-mix" to a shame. Besides Speed [Crash Club Mix] which adds more excitement to the song as it is called Speed, the listener is better off listening to the originals. The prime example of horrible remixing is Duel [Hectic Mix] and Bond on Bond [Hectic Mix] (It's funny how both of these songs were badly mixed by the same person). In Duel, Hectic makes the song more faster-paced and adds a synth sound to the beat, which has a deeper bass. The song relatively stays the same. As goes the same for the Bond on Bond mix, where there is only a different, harder dance beat added to the original song. Also, Shine [Dubshakra Mix], doesn't even sound different. After listening carefully, you will notice the very subtle addition of more tambourines. But it sounds exactly the same; I listened back and forth from the "mix" to the original on the "Shine" album, and could not really tell.
If you want re-mixed Bond songs, this is terrible album to try to find some. Re-mixes are supposed to be a variation of the original song, almost as if the mix was a whole new song. But these "re-mixes" are sad to listen to. I am ashamed for whoever compiled this horrible playlist of tracks. Also, the original tracks by Bond are not what Bond is noted for, as if they were rushed to do these tracks.
A lot of artists do a "filler" album. Bond may have used a re-mix album to give themselves a year off, either for time off recording, or to make more time to record their 4th album, "Classified". Most likely it was to give the girls some well-deserved time off after releasing "Born" and "Shine".
Any fan of Bond will most likely find this album oddly dissatisfying, leaving a caustic taste in the mouth, and a penetrating headache. I would not recommend this album, unless you are a die-hard fan. But please, if you are a first-time listener to Bond, listen to "Born" or "Shine".
*There is two videos that can be played on your computer however; a video of Fuego and Victory, are fun to watch. But they are from their other albums, Victory from "Born" and Fuego from "Shine".
Good remixes.......2004-06-19
I generally stay away from remix albums simply because it's tough to improve on an original. However, I'm a huge fan of techno music and these remixes are heavier fixed with the sound of the dancefloor than the original tracks are. As you can tell by some of the reviews, some people love this, and some hate it. I think the ones that hated this CD are not fans of modern dance music and miss the whole point of dance CDs to begin with, so you can't judge anything by what they say.
This is a great dance CD, period. For the more consertive use of dance beats, see any of Bonds other releases, but this one is definately for the club fans out there. Another killer dance CD I want to suggest is Mr.Deviant's "Techno Obsession" which mixes power rock with killer dance beats to create some very original dance music. Both CDs are great!

Bad mastering or duplication.......2007-05-13
Razor and Tie, the re-mastering, duplication production company that apparently oversaw and provided the CD version of a once-only-available- on-cassette album, messed up by not adhering to a tighter quality control policy.
There appears to be a glitch on my particular copy and possibly a whole batch of them seeing as the duplication process is performed in lots.
The problem occurs on the first track. The second song (So You Ran) actually begins at the end of the first track.
10 or so seconds into the song the the second track kicks in, leaving a space and audible gap or space/glitch during the first verse.
I tried the CD on a few different CD players and it's a consistent problem.
I've advised the retailer "AMAZON" of the issue, but I am not optimistic that they will have (in stock) a copy of the CD that is without this flaw since they buy in bulk and this could effect 100's if not 1000's of CD's that they (and others) have. Plus, they won't be able to test one out to see if it has the glitch prior to replacing the one I have - that is if they even care about the problem or to replace it.
I would hate to think that there are only cut-rate versions of this album out there doing a grave injustice to this great effort by a once relatively obscure "Boston" spin-off.
But it's worse knowing that customers are paying (royalties/commisions) for a less than quality product.
Just a heads up for you fans of Boston out there.
Dated project from past and future Boston alumni.......2007-05-07
While Boston's Tom Scholz was battling CBS's withholding of royalties, a tactic to pressure the engineer to finish the tapes for the third Boston album, former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau and singer Fran Cosmo formed Orion The Hunter. These two worked together previously on Goudreau's 1980 solo project and in Orion they were joined by former Heart drummer Michael De Rosier, bassist Bruce Smith, and on tour by keyboardist Brian Maes, who later appeared in Goudreau and Boston singer Brad Delp's early 90's project, RTZ.
The eponymous Orion the Hunter features five songs co-written by Brad Delp, who also provided back-up vocals. Orion relies heavily on the synthesizer sound popular in the 1980s, including electronic drum pads and sound effects like swishes. The production is terribly dated but great for a chuckle if you grew up during the period when these sounds were considered fresh.
Perhaps it's needless to say, but Orion sounds nothing like Boston, except perhaps for Fran Cosmo's voice, reminiscent of Delp's but stuck in high register on most of these songs, uninspired and forgettable 3-4 minute pop-rock compositions. The album's hit, So You Ran, shamelessly borrows the guitar riff from I'll Be Watching You (released only a year previously in 1983 on the Police's final album, Synchronicity). The band gained some media exposure with a video on the new MTV network and in an opening slot on a summer tour for Aerosmith, but one listen to this album and it's no surprise Orion quickly faded into obscurity.
Former Boston Guitarist And Future Boston Vocalist Join Forces For Great Album.......2007-04-08
Former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau and future Boston vocalist Fran Cosmo joined forces in 1984 under the name Orion The Hunter, and the result was perhaps the best AOR/pop-metal album, aside from Survivor's VITAL SIGNS and Bon Jovi's self-titled debut. The songs here are all great, the guitar playing is incredible, and Brad Delp (R.I.P.) of Boston sings some backups here. All past and present members of Boston and its offshoots believe that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was unjustly convicted, making this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
fran cosmo.......2007-03-10
please buy this NOW, cause years ago this was out of print. barry from boston unleashed his beast with this effort. fran cosmo with his amazing high vocal delivery will keep you in awe for weeks. very catchy and classic aor cd that goes well with a cold beer. a pity there was no follow up to this. the drummer michael from heart is excellent. most aor drummers are plain and simple. this guy kills. this album is in heavy metal league thanks to the band members delivery. production is great too.
Orion The Hunter - self-titled (Razor&Tie).......2006-07-02
Originally hit the stores in 1984.A decent Boston spin-off band, featuring guitarist Barry Gouldreau and some contributions from Boston vocalist Brad Delp(that alone drew my interest). This was the band's sole effort.Better cuts include "All Those Years","Dark And Stormy","Fast Talk" and maybe "I Call It Love".Remember they were support act for Aerosmith's US tour that summer.Only downside of this CD reissue is that it might grow stale after, say the fourth play.Does NOT stand the test of time, like Boston's first three albums do.

Orion was commissioned for the 2004 Athens Cultural Olympiad. Composer Philip Glass's desire was to create a "truly multi-cultural, international music work." Those familiar with Glass's music will have an idea about what to expect---minimalist motifs repeated over and over, subtly changing both rhythmically and harmonically. But this 90-minute work devotes each of its nine sections to a particular nation: one each to Brazil, Canada, Australia, India, China, The Gambia, and Greece and three in combination. Glass uses instruments indigenous to each country, giving the work a terrific array of colors and flavors. The dark gruntings of the didgeridoo are made even more effective when contrasted with the dainty Chinese pipa, a sort-of cross between the lute and mandolin; the sounds of Nova Scotian fiddler Ashley MacIsaac are sharp edged and folksy; and there is a duet for high wind instrument and sitar. The finale is a Greek song with all the instrumentalists chiming in. "Orion" seems somewhat formless---it's not a concerto or symphony---but its series of movements have great beauty and tonal diversity and keep the ear fascinated. Highly recommended. --Robert Levine

magic.......2006-11-10
This two-discs set brings you all over the world. It gives you a taste of different cultures and also the feeling that we all are the same, on the small grain os sand that Earth is, as it appears from the sky.
Minimalist composer NONPAREIL.......2006-11-07
While I enjoy the work of many contemporary composers, Philip Glass is the only one I can think of who has yet to disappoint me. I have been entranced by every piece of his work that I have purchased and this one is no exception. It is not the technique that enchants as much as the soul and creative energy that emanates from each selection. There are other minimalist composers, but none that I have heard who can imbue their music with the sweeping, mesmerizing, heart embracing touch that is the hallmark of Glass's music. Orion is a feast for the mind and the spirit.
Great CD overall, but not his best work.......2006-07-28
Though I'm a huge fan of Glass, and love most of his work, I feel that there were portions taken directly from other songs. I know that he is a minimalist composer, but Brazil, on the album, sounds like he took an excerpt from Aguas de Amazonia and added a couple more repeats in there.
Yes, I feel harshly about a portion or two of the CD, but it is an overall enjoyable piece of music to listen to. Glass does do a wonderful job at portraying the places of the world that he inteds in the music. So, as I said: overall, very enjoyable, but not his best work.
Overly accessible.......2006-03-17
Just as the constellation Orion can be seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres, this collaborative work can appear within the aesthetic range of many musical continents. In widening the threshold; however, subtlety of contrast is lost. Celestial music need not sound like "space music" and , unfortunately, there are stretches of such stooping to popular tastes. Beautifully performed. Helpful liner notes. Brilliant juxtapositions--my favorite being "Canada", "Interlude: Canada & The Gambia", "The Gambia". How often do we get to have Ashley MacIsaac and Foday Musa Suso on the same album, much less playing in the same piece?

OK, granted, Bert's vocals on the title cut are a bit uneven--but that's the great thing about traditional folk music. The little mistakes don't seem entirely out of place, and admittedly, "Jack Orion" is one of those epic songs that require a great feat of memory to keep all the lyrics straight (or a handy lyric sheet in front of you) during a performance. Never has Jansch seemed quite so real as he does here.
These eight tracks are classic performances, and quite obviously done live--there are no overdubs, just Bert, his guitar, banjo and voice, with backing from John Renbourn on guitar. It's easy to see why Jimmy Page nicked the melody from "Blackwaterside" for "Black Mountain Side," as Bert really nails the Irish ballad flat. And I'll agree, his version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" resembles no other version of the song recorded to date--wonder what Ewan MacColl thought of it? Lack of polish aside (I think of Bert's "Needle of Death" from 1965 for an example of a more professional-sounding track, particularly from the Jansch oeuvre), Jack Orion is a real delight.
Bert Jansch (and John Renbourn) play traditional folk songs.......2005-04-22
"Jack Orion" was Bert Jansch's third solo album, recorded in the early summer of 1966, and the first on which he played traditional folk songs rather than mostly original compositions. Jansch plays guitar, banjo and piano on the album, with John Renbourn also showing up to play guitar on half of the tracks (1, 3, 6 and 8). The two had just finished doing an album together and would, of course, eventually end up playing their dueling guitars for the group Pentangle, one of the premier British folk groups of the Sixties along with Fairport Convention (or whichever group had Sandy Denny singing lead vocals).
The title track is 9:46 long and one of those times when Jansch's vocals get in the way of enjoying his guitar playing, which is always the chief attraction on his albums. That is why the instrumental tracks, "The Waggoner's Lad" and "Henry Martin," are my favorite on this 1966 album. The most familiar songs are the instrumental take on "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," which you might need a moment to recognize (I think he improves the tune nicely), "Nottamun Town," which is where Bob Dylan got the melody for "Masters of War," and "Blackwaterside," which was transformed by Jimmy Page into "Black Mountain Side" on Led Zeppelin's debut album.
I find "Jack Orion" the album to be a second tier Jansch album, which still makes it worth listening (if you are not totally captivated by the title track it is hard to rate it otherwise). The more I listen to his work the more I start to think that I hear him doing something I have heard before, but that never turns out to be the case. But what you keep coming back to is how Jansch is one of the best guitar players you have ever heard and you will enjoy pretty much anything he plays. Word from the U.K. is that Jansch is taking a break from live performances for the first half of 2005 in order to concentrate on a new album, which is certainly welcome news. It is good to know there will be yet another Bert Jansch album to track down in the future.

The sound world of Wynton Marsalis just keeps expanding. With At the Octoroon Balls, the composer/jazz trumpeter has written his first composition for string quartet. Filled with Americana references and plenty of New Orleans soul, the piece may surprise you. "Come Long Fiddler" flows between the rollick of Appalachian Spring and the somber quietude of Satie. "Hellbound Highball" swings with the rhythmic intensity of a locomotive and "Blue Lights on the Bayou" is a somber tone poem. The Orion String Quartet treats these new works as if they were standards, with plenty of zest and energy. The bonus on this disc is A Fiddler's Tale Suite, featuring the instrumental highlights from Marsalis's Fiddler's Tale disc. Marsalis, playing alongside a crackerjack woodwind and horn ensemble from the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, especially shines here. Recorded as part of Marsalis's Swing into the 21st Century series of releases in 1999, this musical gumbo may too diverse for some ears, but Marsalis fans will be begging for more. --Jason Verlinde

An American Classic.......1999-07-01
Marsalis' genius never seems to stop. In this collection of music, he brings together the sounds of jazz and classical music in a way that will attract fans of both genres and leave permanent smiles on the faces of fans who had always hoped Marsalis would marshall his talents as a jazz and classical trumpet player into one piece of music.
Exciting new music!.......1999-07-01
I recently heard the Orion Quartet perform selections from At the Octoroon Balls and was moved to order the CD immediately! An unexpected experience for those who only are exposed to one side of Marsalis. Beautifully performed, with great energy and precision, a real treat!

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful album.......2005-11-20
If only I could persuade you of how wonderful this CD is, how happy I would be. Do you need to understand Spanish to enjoy it? Well, Serrano's poetry is enchanting, lyrical, compassionate, inspired, funny, sad. This is a very loose translation of part of the lyrics to "Reina del Super:"
Kmart Queen
I never tire of breathing you in
Between Today's Special Offers
And Household Goods.
Like you, I have your name stapled to my breast
And in my hands the thorns of a rose-tree.
You pass my life
Under the laser beam
And between announcements, our melody
Booms on the P.A.
How I would dance with you!
Kmart Queen
Queen of my Ship
I'll be your Redbeard
We'll board your galleon
We'll grab two shopping carts of cans
And toss our fear overboard
Kmart Queen
Queen of the Saloon
I'll be your Jesse James
It'll be the perfect crime
On the lam with our plunder
As far as the beaches of Almeria
As far as the Far West
He is a delightful singer in the tradition of European troubadours which includes Paolo Conte, Jacques Brel and even Ian Dury, with an intensely passionate, husky voice that mesmerizes and evokes a mass of feelings. The arrangements and the melodies are shimmeringly beautiful.
Buy this CD, even if you are not Spanish-speaking, for the sophisticted pleasure of the music. If you can, get a friend to translate the lyrics for you, or better still, learn some Spanish yourself, and you will never regret it!
a listener.......2005-08-16

Too many "duets".......2007-07-12
I am not usually a big fan of Elvis impersonators. That being said, it is unfortunate that Orion has to always being remembered as being an impersonator. The man could sing. Unfortunately, he just sounded like Elvis. This best of does not do him any justice. It relies heavily on his manager's idea to have him record "duets" with many of the Sun legends. For anyone who does not know, Orion's manager purchased the Sun catalogue from Sam Phillips, and he just had overdubbed Orion's voice onto many of the Sun classics. The duets are mostly the original songs (see track listing for info) with a few lines overdubbed by Orion. When they were released, they were released on the Sun label with no artist named. Of course, all this material was being released after Elvis died, and the whole idea was to get people to believe that Elvis was still alive (by releasing new material, the mask, just the entire stage persona really). The songs that he records solo on here are the reason I purchased this disc. My personal favorite is his rendition of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."
SOOOOOOOO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-04
I really like the voice of Jimmy Orion Ellis.
He is even better than Elvis in certain songs.
How bad he was so brutally killed.
Ellis-Elvis - I'll Remember You.......2004-04-08
Great CD!! Jimmy Ellis' voice was a natural phenomenon. It is so pure, crisp, rasp (when he wanted) deep from the gut - just like Elvis. Actually he could sing certain songs better than E - and I'm an Elvis fan. He just had that once in a century talent like Sinatra, Engelbert, Tom Jones, and Elvis -- but he was never given the deserved recognition for it by radio who thought he was an impersonator - which he was NOT!
