Product Description
Global Spirit The Spiritual Voice: Listen to music, which mirrors a global understanding of the world. Harmony and balance are essential elements of nature and it is necessary that we first rebuild these elements in ourselves. The new citizen of the world needs a new concept, which can be taught from early childhood. It is also necessary to return to the remembrance of human values. This knowledge should be spread to all the people who have to make decisions in the business world.

Yet another jewel in the Putumayo crown, Women of Spirit brings us an hour of soulfully respondent music from round the globe, made by women whose sound is full like lips, round like hips, and solid like bare feet on fertile earth. Women of Spirit is musky, sensuous, and womanly, at once wise and gloriously ripe. From the opening "Inexile," performed by Capercaille with Siberia, in which Karen Matheson's throaty alto wail soars round reeling Celtic fiddle, to the closing "A Song," featuring the mother-daughter African-American gospel blues harmony of Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon, Women of Spirit celebrates the stages not only of womanhood, but of the entire life cycle. Ani DiFranco's distinctively styled ringing guitar picking twined with her bust-loose vocals on the chorus of "Done Wrong" is deeply affecting. Cassandra Wilson shines on "Death Letter," and the exotic chant and slide of the French-Sudanese Groupe Oiywan makes staying still near impossible. This collection beckons one to embrace life, move to the rhythm, and find comfort in knowing that we are most powerful as a tribe. --Paige La Grone

I love this CD except for ONE song. How often does THAT happen? Not very. Beautiful compilation.
Run...don't walk...get this CD!!!.......2007-01-31
One of the very, very best. You'll find yourself reaching for this one again and again. Beautiful, complex, fulfilling... you'll hear new things every time you play this CD. Highly recommended and worth every penny.
Insanely Beautiful.......2005-10-03
Women of Spirit is, without reservation, the best Putumayo album ever to be released. Filled to the brim with radiance, passion, and the irrepressible light all wonderful female vocalists can bring to their work, this is like an international Lilith Fair.
With soulful works originating from anywhere from Greece to South Africa, Women of Spirit compiles some of the best female vocalists to ever grace the planet. Including Ani DiFranco's "Done Wrong," Capercaillie's "Inexile," Ima Galguen's "La Zarza," and Savina Yannatuo's "El Sueno de la Hija del Rey" as some of the shining stars, as well as songs from Susana Baca and Tarika, both previously covered by Putumayo.
Ranging from a crystalline, delicate Celtic/Mediterranean sound to harsh, tender, and sprawling melodies from the USA, this record truly has spirit guaranteed to outshine nearly everything else.
As Maya Angelou, whose quote introduces the album, says, "Being a woman is hard work. Not without joy and even ecstasy, but still relentless, unending work." Here is a record to remove our minds from these burdens, a collection of music that is peaceful, sexy, uplifting, or just insanely beautiful by turns.
Exploring new worlds.......2004-01-04
Deciding my favorite tracks on this CD was harder than for many others. In most compilations one or two tracks stand out. In this, different tracks grew on me at different rates. The collection as a whole settled slowly; how well it went together was only appreciated after several listenings.
Great background or driving music!.......2002-12-16
This CD was given to me as a gift, and I must admit, I was a little skeptical. Much to my surpirse and delight, it's a fabulous CD with a mix of world influences. I'm in the process of tracking down entire albums from some of the artists on Women of Spirit.

Embracing the notion that all spiritual paths lead to the same source, Prayer is a gathering of voices and music raised in assorted forms of worship, supplication, and praise to a greater essence. Assembled and handsomely presented by Dean and Dudley Evenson on behalf of their cosmically inclined Soundings of the Planet label, Prayer is a wide-ranging compilation of artists who profess some affiliation to their designated religious perspective. Rebbe Soul opens the disc with a part-contemporary, part-traditional Jewish plea for "peace between the sons of Issac and the sons of Ishmael," followed by an organic Hindu groove evoked on sitar and percussion by vocalist Jai Uttal, and then an ethereal take on a Sikh perspective, sung in resonant, angelic fashion by Lorellei. The Savae Vocal Ensemble uses the Inca language Quechua to offer up its intriguing Gregorian-like chant, gently underscored by tribal shakers. Islam, Krishna, Buddhism, Christianity, and Native American thoughts are also expressed, concluding with "Green Tara Mantra," involving a disembodied-sounding chant coming from the Dalai Lama. "Eclectic" hardly seems an adequate label for this collection, but the word represents a fair appraisal of a far-reaching, generally subdued recording likely to appeal to like-minded seekers and world-music collectors. The enhanced CD offers additional details on the concept and participating artists. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Collection of Prayers & Chants From Around the World.......2007-06-07
"Prayer" is a deeply moving, beautiful collection of various prayers & chants from around the world - and I have to say that it's truly soul stirring!
I enjoy listening to music when I meditate & this has quickly become one of my favorite "meditation music" CD's! Although many of the songs are sung in a different language, you can feel their meaning within you - the music "speaks to you"...
I also really liked the liner notes that accompany this CD - they include short discussions on prayer - what it is & why it's so important, as well as the words for each of the songs, written in both the original language it was created in, as well as english.
Overall, I absolutely love this CD & I highly recommend it to anyone interested in prayer/chant music &/or music to help you get to that "special place" during meditation.
Great CD.......2005-02-19
This CD was the catalysts into my love for chant/kirtan music. Many great artists on this CD including my current fav's Jai Uttal and Krishna Das. Also a great chant by His Holiness the Dalai Lama chanting the Green Tara Mantra. The tone is reverent and peaceful. Get this Cd, you will love it.
An awesome collection of chants.......2004-01-13
This is the best collection of prayers and chants we have come across. It should be in everybody's CD stash. It has a wonderful, world beat sound to each of the excellent tracks and then it ends up with the Dalai Lama doing the Green Tara Mantra with Dean Evenson accompanying on flute and keyboards. It doesn't get better than that! I pray everyone in the world gets to enjoy this wonderful CD. And spread the word, tell your friends. They will be happy too to hear it.
Beautifully produced and deeply moving. Love it!.......1999-03-16
This release is beautiful to the ear as well as the soul. Listening to the ancient prayers and chants from so many spiritual paths and the fine instrumentation that accompanies them transports me into a deep state of peaceful reverance. I listen to it before I start my day, and at it's close. The sound is hypnotic and lovely. The spirit of this release connects me to all those who have asked the deep questions of life throughout time and have sung to their gods in supplication and in praise. A fine piece of work!

Karunesh is goooooodddd!!!!.......2005-11-15
This disciple of Osho comes up with some melodious tracks... which have remarkable good soothing and calming effect on ur mind. A mix of Indian and African tunes the album is a gem, a must have if you are a lover of Fusion music. The use of high bass flute in Alibaba, and Call of Tribes make them my personal favorites...
Just My Opinion.......2005-09-07
I bought this CD five years ago on a whim...knew nothing about Karunesh or his music. During the first year I listened to it several times a week. Now, five years later, it continues to be one of my all time favorite CD's. The music from this CD is 'transcendental'. I can't think of any other way to describe it. I get a deep spiritual feeling from the music each time I listen to it. I can always count on this CD to put my head and heart in the right place. I've shared this CD with friends and family. Almost every one has mentioned to me sometime later how much they enjoy this music. It seems to touch a part of ourselves that longs for a connection with something larger than our little egoic selves and confirms humanity as community, despite borders and distance. I wish I could personally thank Karunesh his work with this CD.
A Must Have CD.......2005-08-06
This CD is amazing! The music is so beautiful, unique, and moving! Its rich exotic rhythms are unforgettable! This is one of the best world music CDs!
Karunesh disappoints in global spirit(GS)!.......2004-11-16
I read a lot of great reviews on karunesh and bought this so-called "platinum best seller" but it really SUCKS!! I'd great opinion on this osho disciple and his fusion music, however this album is in a totally different and dull league compared to his gems-zen breakfast and nirvana cafe!
GS is too oriental, synthetic and clearly lacks harmony. Only solitude and earth song does well and the other ones are very indian with incoherent african beats.
Overall it's only slightly better than a dumb Bollywood/Hindi movie!!!
A masterpiece !!!.......2004-08-12
I own 2 karunesh CD's up until now and I must say I am impressed. I delved into world music only recently, but I am happy I started with karunesh. "Beyond Heaven" was the follow up to this one. But Global spirit is the one which started the ball rolling for karunesh. This CD is pure Gold.
Call of tribes: Beautiful Indian tune on different kinds of flute with percussion, and African tribal chorus and shouts.
Punjab: Beautiful Hindi song. Its called Punjab as it has a Punjabi flavor as parts are sung in Punjabi. Punjab being a state in northern India. watch out for the beautiful twisty-turny violin solo which appears on this song. This made it to the Buddha bar series by Claude challe and was very successful on the Buddha bar series compilation.
Native ritual: African tribal chant with percussion and synthesized beats, This piece is beat driven. This beat will rev you up if you are feeling lazy. Also highlight, A woman/girl's voice singing a single line at properly placed intervals adds a neat touch to this piece.
Earthsong: Song with African tribal flavor. Feels like a learned old tribal is telling us about something. Nice synthesizers and beats. And of course nice synthesized flutes.
Bombay pure: Sanskrit sloka (sacred chants in Sankrit, Sanksrit being ancient language of indian subcontinent from which all indian dialects have directly or indirectly evolved) along electronic beats makes for beautiful fusion.
Ancient secrets: Africa tribal song again. Also the Australian didgeridoo makes its appearance here. Nice simple keyboard tune follows.
Kubula Ma: African Tribal flavor with a trendy dance floor rhythm. I swear this will make you get up and shake your booty if its not already shaking in the chair you have been sitting on. Beautiful oriental flute interlude also punctuates. you also have a nice table and African drums which get accentuated when we are well into the track.
Alibaba: This is a super super track. This piece also made it to the Buddha bar series by Claude Challe. Sensual flutes melodic passages and sensitive percussive percussive. After that we get an amazing breezy and fresh guitar solo where you feel you are among palm trees and in the vicinity of a waterfall only to be broken by beautifully rendered and periodic Arabic "allampanah" cries.
High-light are the flutes and the guitar solo here.
Solitude: fantastic track. A north Indian ghazal with beautiful percussive arrangement. The super highlight on this track is the irresistible Chinese flavor violin solo which although worlds apart from Indian fare seems to somehow mesh perfectly well with the Indian ghazal.
Earthsong (reprise): Repeat of earthsong albeit with only the vocal and then karunesh himself chanting some Sanskrit verse.
No bummer on this CD. Worth it's weight in gold.
Note: All the instruments except the violin and sitar are fully played by Karunesh himself. Also Karunesh is the co-producer of the Buddha bar volume 3.
Both Thumbs up !!!!
Vikram

Album Description
Popular percussionist Girish is blasting through the defining boundaries of the chant music genre, bringing a fresh, exciting, and yet deeply spiritual interpretation that is sure to change the way that audiences and performers think of chant music. You may readily recognize the familiar sound of Girish's tabla playing, which has consistently graced popular chant recordings for the last decade. Now Girish is revolutionizing the world of chants with his funky, stirring style. On his new CD, Reveal, he intelligently incorporates pop, jazz, and folk nuances into ancient Sanskrit mantras. His voice is well trained through years of studying Sanskrit and chanting for hours a day, year after year. "I took mantras that are ten thousand years old and combined them with a musical style that makes the benefit of the mantras accessible and appealing to modern listeners," says Girish. But rather than translating the mantras, he kept the integrity of the Sanskrit sounds intact for a reason. "When you chant, the mantra acts as a portal to the presence of the deity whose name you're chanting. There's this whole energy field built up around a mantra that has been used for thousands of years and has this vortex of spiritual power built around it," he explains. A remarkable cast of performers participated in and supported the making of Reveal. These include top female vocalists Donna De Lory, Wah!, CC White and Snatam Kaur. Saxophone, keyboards, electric sitar and cello add tremendous texture and flavor. But most impressive is Girish's effort in conceptualizing, writing for, singing on, and performing multiple instruments throughout the recording. Though it is deeply rooted in the wisdom and spiritual knowledge of the Vedas, listening to Reveal is fun and light-hearted

Open your heart and sink inside....Pure Bliss!
Girish redefines mantra. Donna De Lory's backing vocals are just stunning!
WOW!!!.......2005-04-15
I'm new to some of eastern influenced music. I've worked in the music business for many years with rock and pop artists, but I wanted to expand my horizons. Until I came across this Girish CD, my favorites have been Dave Stringer, Krishna Das, and David Parson. My new favorite of the genre is Reveal. The entire album is amazing. I especially can't stop listening to Hanuman.
I highly recommend this CD. I'm looking forward to seeing what Girish does in the future too!!!
EXTRA-ORDINARY!.......2005-01-19
Upon first listening to REVEAL, I found myself intoxicated by ancient sounds woven together by the modern hands of an artist who truly understands the soul's desire to experience something deeply transcendent. Strong, earthy tones permeate mantras often thought inaccessible are now open to many in this cross-culturally infused album. Girish's languid voice takes us on a journey where inspiring, heart-felt expression is mixed with a groove all its own. These subtle, jazz-like compositions set REVEAL apart from other chant albums, allowing those who may not usually swim in these waters a chance to dive in and feel immediately at home.
To create an album with a unique sound, both vocally and instrumentally, is rare. To uplift and heal the spirit as well is...extraordinary!
A Wonderful CD.......2004-11-09
"Reveal" by Girish is a CD of articulate beauty, accessible devotion and amazing musicianship. Girish weaves ancient Sanskrit mantras with contemporary and inventive melodies to bring chant out of the ashram and into the living room.
I love this CD. I'm instantly enveloped by Girish's hypnotic vocals and lush arrangements every time I listen to it. His voice is deep and fluid, expressing the emotional calling of Kirtan through melodies that you come away singing. Yes, I find myself singing in Sanskrit, understanding the meaning even if I don't know what the words themselves mean, being connected to an ancient intelligence on a visceral level.
Gorgeous!.......2004-10-17
Girish's beautiful sound is overlain with a palpable sense of devotion that speaks to a place deep inside. When friends are over and I play it, it never goes unremarked, and this is true whether or not they are from a Hindu tradition. It's one of my absolute favorite cds.

Mickey Hart is a rhythm proselytizer. He's been sounding-off from the percussion pulpit since writing his first book, Drumming at the Edge of Magic in 1990. Hart's Planet Drum--the book and the album--set forth an army of percussion acolytes. With Spirit into Sound, Hart has another accompanying book and a gentler music that looks toward the melodic side of percussion. Although there are a few guests, including tabla player Zakir Hussain, Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, and sarangi master Ustad Sultan Khan, it's Mickey Hart and vocalist/percussionist Rebeca Mauleon who dominate the album. They play melodic percussion instruments and/or electronic samples of African balafon, Brazilian berimbau, and steel drums. For a drummer as worldly as Hart, Spirit into Sound is surprisingly naïve in its childlike rhythms. Mauleon's wordless chants make Spirit into Sound sound like a global glossolalia nursery rhyme. This isn't an album for the rhythmatists of Hart's core following, but a more intimate affair. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Album...........2002-08-14
After Mickey Hart's previous effort "Supralingua", Mickey goes back to relaxing, chill out music that takes you to another place with Spirit Into Sound.
The album is much mellower than it's predecessor. Highlights include Amazon Nguni, Shambolaya, Elephant Walk, Hidden Beach, and the Indian-inspired closing track, Indian Night.
Sit back and let Mickey take you to the other side spiritually.
For what its worth..........2000-08-29
...this is my favorite Mickey Hart/Planet Drum recording. The music reflects the sublime and spiritual aspect of music. Much better than his two previous musical efforts, "Mystery Box" and "Supralingua".
My hope is that Mickey will release a few recordings from his latest musical ensemble, the Mickey Hart Band, featuring a guitarist, bassist, percussion players, vocalists, and former Dead-keyboard player, Vince Welnick.
Buy this recording...you will not be disappointed. You may also want to check out a special packaging of this CD with its companion book.
A masterpiece.......2000-08-16
This Cd is A absolute masterpiece. The sounds invoke a inner spirituality. When I first put this on I instantly felt something no other cd ever made me feel, a deep rooted almost primitive feeling of sound that transforms the mind and soul into the music. Mickey Hart aslo makes a excellent recording here. The sound is the best I ever heard come from a cd. These sounds we are hearing come from all over the world, there is no denying, this is a Matsterpeice. For fans of world music and jazz alike.
Spirited music evokes images of nature.......2000-05-25
I can tell a five-star album from the individual pieces that are on it. Many albums have a song I like really well, but for some of these that is the only one I like. A five-star album will have four or five such songs that I really like. This album is one of these. The spirited drum beats and simple but alluring combination of simple wind instruments, voice, and melodic percussion evokes images of nature, especially rain forest nature, in my mind. In this album Mickey Hart has returned from his excursion into rock music with Mystery Box back to the drum beats that marked Planet Drum and On the Edge. My favorites on the album are Amazon Nguni, Funky Peru, Shambolaya, Nature Talk, Chroma, and Native Sun. Nature talk in particular reminds me of nature talking to me when I hike in the woods. It is an album that I have played several times and I still like it just about as well as the first time I heard the tidbits on Amazon that enticed me to buy the album. It really is a five-star album.
New Age--but better than elevator music.......2000-02-14
I'm really not much of a fan of New Age type stuff. But actually this isn't too bad. It has interesting sound without being boring and repetitious throughout. Definitely worth a chance--at the very least, it's something to listen to at night to get to sleep.

Customer Reviews:
Cool Techno-Tribal Groove.......2005-03-01
Wow ! This is a real departure from Zingaia's earlier releases and I love where they take me on this new musical adventure. Super cool techno-tribal beats, world rythyms and sampled voices from Africa and the Near and Far East blend beautifully. This release really transports me into a whole other world. While I really love the vocals from Abbi Spinner and Katlyn Breene from the previous releases, this new drum heavy trance inducing excursion from Zingaia is a complete a joy and an amazing listening experience.
Dissapointing!.......2005-02-16
I might like this album better if I didn't already have a fairly large collection of albums by Putamayo World Music which are much better than this! The reason I mention that is that this album reminds of the things that company releases, just not nearly as good.
I have both of their other releases which are superb! They are all about Sacred Sex and praise the Lady and the Lord. This album is bland and boring compared to the other two. The only good thing I can really find to say about it is that it might be enjoyable to drum along with it.
However, I have several other albums I like better which are also good for drumming along with. If thier next album isn't any better I will have to revise my opinion of Zingaia!
Soles on Earth is Out of this World!!!.......2004-10-27
This latest release by Zingaia (their third) is vastly different than their previous releases, both of which I absolutely love. Where their first release "Beneath the Veil" is a trance journey into the seductive heart of the Goddess, and their second release "Dancers of Twilight" featuring the alluring vocals of Abbi Spinner, further develops the original theme, deepening and expanding the voyage into musical spirit; with their latest release "Soles on Earth" Michael & Katlyn Breene and crew launch into a tribal poly-rhythmic trance dance groove that is no less than phenomenal. Middle Eastern, East Indian and African rhythms combine with sampled vocals from around the world to produce an album that sets the mind, body and spirit free to dance joyously to the pulsing rhythms of life. Definitively the most eclectic of their releases yet, Soles on Earth will stir your soul and get your feet moving. I give it my highest recommendation.

Customer Reviews:
Narada does it again!.......2000-06-18
The Narada label has never disappointed me. This time they offer an interesting mix of "spiritual" music from around the world. I have several "native american" titles already. This one offers "other world perspectives" that balance nicely. Worth a listen!
