4 out of 5 stars Some old, some new..........2003-02-07

Made in JAP in 2002, Serial# CCCN-21029, Playing Time 40:29

I started "collecting" KITARO's recordings back in 1980; it's been a completist's nightmare, probably due to all the contracts he's been involved with, and the fact that some material has been re-released under different album names.

"Mizu Ni Inori Te" is an album which collects tracks used for the Japanese TV show from the NHK network.

There are 3 new (read "previously unreleased, made especially for this album") tracks on this CD (tracks 1,4,5), and the title track alone makes this a worthwhile purchase: very reminiscent of the "Oasis" and "Silver Cloud" era, rich keyboard textures, soothing melody, a very healing track.

Track 2 comes from the "The Light Of The Spirit" album, while track 3 is possibly the best known track as it appeared previously on the "Thinking Of You" album. Track 6 comes from the "Shikoku 88 Temples" effort (which was also a "semi-compilation" of sorts), and track 7 is a different recording than the original "Silk Road" album.

It's unfortunate that this CD will most probably go unnoticed; it won't get a North American release (can somebody please do something about THAT?), and the bulk of the tracks here should raise some interest. All the material is instrumental but fairly diverse in structure.

An expensive addition to your CD collection if your catalogue of KITARO albums is limited (you should be ashamed!); there are many other titles you should pick up first.

But to the avid fan, this is a welcome addition into the library... and we're somewhat accustomed to pick up Japanese imports from this master of some "naturally emotional" performances. Too bad the CD is rather short!
