"I don't get it"
Product Description
Mike Macharyas ain't about following the rules. Now you're probably saying, "They were real the day I wore that vest!"
THAT VEST WAS DISGUSTING, OK?
Mike Macharyas ain't gonna let some short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky mother hubbard soft soap him with just a pocketful of hope.
Mike Macharyas is sick and tired of hearing things from uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics.
It's like I tell y'all what's on these albums, and then you still complain when he delivers the goods, EXACTLY like I described.
I killed Liz, I killed the teen dream! Deal with it!
Anyways, listen to Macharyas yell at Wilmer Valderrama for breaking Lindsay's heart. Listen to him desperately trying to find a helpless Katie Holmes. Bob your head to the funky beats as he seeks Kanye West's help, dangerously hanging from a cliff!!!
I swear, these albums are getting better and better. You can actually sing along! If you don't believe me, put on "Johnny Knoxville." Just TRY to get that outta your head.
Mike Macharyas drilled you with his previous albums. And the son-of-a-gun didn't even use lube. He didn't call you the next day either. And yet you still think about him in your silly high-school fantasies. You big loser, I tell ya.
Add it to your Macharyas collection. You won't be disappointed. I'm actually being serious here.

These days she's fodder for tabloid writers and late-night comics, but way back in the '90s Mariah Carey ruled the charts. This two-disc collection offers up evidence why, for better or worse, Mariah's five-octave, pop/R&B stylings set the diva standard. Greatest Hits culls its offerings from Carey's five albums on Sony (she is now signed to Virgin), and you get all the facets of her platinum-plus sound. From the soulful smolder of her 1990 debut "Vision of Love" (still one of her best tracks) to the coyer-than-thou duet with Jay Z ("Heartbreaker"), Carey thrills, trills, and hits notes that only canines comprehend. Fans will gobble this collection up, but inclusion of some of Carey's more adventuresome remixes (e.g. the Puffy-produced "Fantasy," featuring ODB) might have made this package more noteworthy. --Amy Linden

If you only buy one album in your life..........2007-05-18
...this is the one. Miriah has defined and redefined pop music throughout her illustrious career, and this album brings the entire journey together in one dynamic, brilliant package. This duo CD set showcases all of Miriah's favorites, in addition to most of her #1 hits. One of my favorite aspects of this album is that some of the songs are not even technically "hits"; rather, they are Miriah's personal favorites (i.e. "Butterfly"). This amazing performer's five-octave range, coupled with her impeccable sense of pitch, dynamics, and musicality, along with her unmatched emotional drive, put her, in my opinion, in the position of Greatest Vocalist of All Time. If you like her even a little, buy the album. You will love it. If you don't like her, buy the album. Listening to it only once or twice will cause you to fall in love with the undeniable force that is Miriah Carey's voice.
Magnificent!.......2007-01-09
Truly enjoy each time I pop one of these CDs into my player...always turns into a sing-a-long marathon. A brilliant compilation of "Mariah's" greatest hits.

Carey's first post-divorce effort makes passing allusions to her ex-hubby (and label honcho) Tommy Mottola, but it doesn't dwell on them the way many similar projects do. Instead, Carey is right back to her old tricks; cooing trademark melismatic spirals through sexy, beat-heavy hits. Fans will dig the bedroom slink of "Baby Doll," the dripping "Honey" and the infectious title track (reprised, along with a bit of Elton John's "Skyline Pigeon," in "Fly Away"). The highlight is a duet with Dru Hill on Prince's "The Beautiful Ones," which just might be her most pointed commentary on Mottola. --Michael Ruby

This album is pure Mariah!.......2007-08-03
I have been a fan of Mariah for many years and I own every CD she's ever made. But this CD is completely different for me from the rest of them. Of course this excludes the Christmas CD. But this CD for me is like a journey through time.
1. Honey - This is the song that was the driving force for me to get this album. I love it. It's such a fun song.
2. Butterfly - "Spread ur wings and fly...Buttterfly" Need I say more?
3. My All - A beautiful ballad. This is one of my favorites on the CD.
4. The Roof - This song is probably without a doubt my least favorite song.
5. 4th of July - Beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
6. Breakdown - Mariah & Bone Thugs = Classic hit!
7. Babydoll - I like this song. I don't know if I'd consider it a favorite, but I like it.
8. Close My Eyes - This song is absolutely beautiful. I love it. Deffiniatly a favorite for me.
9. Whenever U Call - This is the most beautiful goregous song on this entire CD. It is so beautifully sung. Thank you Mariah for bringing something special to this song.
10. Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise) - Good dance song.
11. The Beautiful Ones (Mariah Carey with Dru Hill) - I was never a big fan of Prince until the "MUSICOLOGY" CD came out. But compared to Prince's version of this song - I like Mariah's better. Goregous.
12. Outside - This song without question is my all-time most favorite on this CD. It's absolutely wonderful. I love it.Butterfly

a butterfly that kicked tommy motolla to the curb.......2007-02-06
late 1997 and early 1998 was a great time for the divas, with each of them releasing personal albums that contained the most creative work of their careers. Janet with velvet rope, Madonna with ray of light and Mariah with butterfly. This one was the leader in the pack. Honey was such a successful single and the video showed mariah in a much sexier light than ever before. The first single was followed by the title track Butterfly. Although the video was dissed by critics the music spoke for itself. Next the roof was released and that's when I finally went out to buy the CD and discovered other gems like breakdown, baby doll and the beautiful ones. I didn't appreciate whenever you call until recently, but it's probably one of her best songs ever. The way this album flows was also really well done. Mariah experimented with hip hop for the first time on an album and it worked great. I love the fact that this is still listenable 10 years later and not outdated like the new jill swing r&b that was still lingering and the timbaland hip hop sound emerging at the time.
2nd buy.......2007-01-10
I had the tape and the CD of this one, had to get it AGAIN. I can't play this enough. The cover of Prince's Beautiful Ones is amazing. She blends so well with all the people she collaberates with.
Her Best Album!.......2006-12-05
I love this album sooooo much!!! it had so many greta songs in it. I remember when i first got it I never tried to listen to any songs that weren't singles, so i would only listen to Honey, My All & Butterfly (i didn't know about Breakdown or Roof). One day i was bored and decided to listen to every song. All i can say is DAMN. i been missin out. I instantly fell inlove with breakdoown, roof, 4th of july, Whenever You Call, & The Beautiful Ones. Ever since then, every time i buy a cd, i listen to every song because i literally went months of only listening to the singles. Unfortunately i let someone (who loved mariah) borrow my cd and they never gave it back....guess who? my english teacher!!! every day she =had an excuse of why she didn't bring it or it was in her car! Now you now if a teacher would steal a cd from her student, than that cd is worth buying..Believe me, your missing out until you get this!

Mariah Carey's #1's is as much a time capsule of '90s pop and R&B as a record of one woman's chart toppers: the disc chronicles a shift from the sweet, nearly '50s-style "Vision of Love" to more recent hip-hop-lite grooves featuring heavy input from Puffy Combs ("Honey"), Jermaine Dupri ("Sweetheart"), and O.D.B. ("Fantasy"). Some hit, some miss, but all feature the fluttery swoops that Carey substitutes for expression of feeling. Depth is beside the point, but few of these tracks are even fun. Still, after eight years, there seems to be no stopping her, and this album will hardly break her streak of successes. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Mariah Medley.......2007-06-13
This is a good Mariah compilation. Solid mix of dance and R & B music, with pop attibutes at times and a little rap thrown in other times. Showcase of Mariah's stuff up to that time. Notable songs:
Sweetheart - good bounce to it, an airy tune
Honey - fun and lively, good groove
Fantasy - fun tune from mid-90s that makes the listener want to dance around. Good beat. Showcases Mariah's soprano
Dreamlover
Emotions - very good showcase of Mariah's vocal range and the power of her voice. Funky piano in there.
Someday - Mariah's first "big one" from 1990 I think. Great tune, infectious pop with a hard edge. Mariah's powerful voice with its big range was already on display in her early 20s.
Could be better.......2007-02-13
Simply put this CD is missing anytime you need a friend and without you.
Before the style changed..........2006-10-13
This 1998 album was the last Mariah came out with before she stopped just flirting with and went full-speed into hip-pop, starting with 1999s "Rainbow" and going to last year's "The Emancipation of Mimi." Now, don't get me wrong, the woman has had a few good singles in this new hip-pop era of hers'; in fact I like all 4 of the big singles from "Mimi." However, the new output pales next to the fantastic POP songs on "#1s."
The album shows how good she was...huge ground-breaking ballads like "Love Takes Time" and "Hero," makes-me-want-to-cut-a-rug dance tracks like "Emotions" and "Someday." Plus her specialty, fabulous mid-tempo gems like "Always Be My Baby" and "Dreamlover." And who could forget one of the most popular songs of all time, "One Sweet Day" with Boyz II Men. The single spent 16 freaking weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, more than any other song ever! Plus, this album shows how good she was when she just flirted with hip-hop, on the 2 great cuts "Fantasy" (although not this tacky version with ODB, but the original album version) and "Honey."
There are so many good songs missing that didn't make #1, so get "Greatest Hits" for those. In fact, just get "Greatest Hits" because it includes almost everything on here plus good stuff like "Can't Let Go" "Make It Happen" "Without You" "Anytime You Need a Friend" the aforementioned "Fantasy" original version and "Butterfly." I am disappointed because neither "#1s" or "Greatest Hits" has "Breakdown" with Bone-Thugz on it, one of my faves of Mariah's.
I wish Mariah would lose some of the "Hip" and gain back some of the "Pop" so she could make music as good as this again. This disc is as good as R&B/pop gets.
A Diva she maybe..........2006-04-14
but she's earned the right. This CD is a must have for all MC fans. Mariah has had an amazing career, despite her brief lapse a few years back, but everyone needs a little break now and then and I'm sure the whole situation was blown out of proportion. Actress she may not be, but this gal can sang. Highly Recommended.
Mariah Carey is amazing.......2006-04-01
Mariah Carey is one of the all-time best singers in music history. Her ability to hit typically unfathomable notes is, of course, her trademark and signature; but unlike some of her contemporaries, especially the late 90s and early 2000s pop stars like Britney Spears, her singing is the reason for her popularity, as it should be for any singer. Her #1's is a great CD, as are many compilation records by artists because they feature their big hits and not the filler from the actual studio releases. Impressively, Carey has had an incredible amount of singles but also an amazing number of No. 1's, more than any other female artist and rivaling only The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Even though #1's is not meant to be a Greatest Hits package (as Carey has said in the enclosed album art) like her official Greatest Hits CD released several years later, it certainly comes off as one. Mariah's voice remains powerful throughout the years as heard on #1's. Brilliant--certainly worth purchasing because it compiles the sound that made the 1990s.

"Fantasy" provides the only real transcendent chapter on this album. Reinterpreting Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" with a percolating dance beat, the single emphasizes everything that makes Mariah Carey great. Her voice swoops, squeals, and careens over the seductive rhythm, while the words capture just the right amount of vulnerability and determination. Unfortunately, the thrill is short-lived, as the multiplatinum singer soon falls back into typical adult-contemporary schlock and pointless vocal gymnastics, particularly on "Melt Away" and the bombastic cover of Journey's "Open Arms." --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
She's always been the "Total Package".......2007-06-22
From the first time my ears heard her voice...i was in love with this talented diva like, American Musical Treasure. This is truly one of if not the best Mariah Carey Albums of all. I am a firm believer in the notion that some songs or artists should NOT be re-recorded...however Mariah does an excellant job of owning, even if only for this album, "Open Arms"...of course the original being from Steve Perry and Journey. There's Something about Mariah and the lyrics "Lying Beside Me"..."one Sweet Day" is a tear jerker for anyone who has ever had to say good~bye to a loved one...great song. "Always be My Baby" is a cute song for the lover in you..."Fantasy" is for the dancefloor with it's sample of "Genius Of Love" from the Tom Tom Club. Another personal fav' is "Melt Away". This is a beautiful woman "working it" with a voice that is another reason to believe in GOD because this voice could have only come from Heaven.
This is Mariah on point. Definitely her best album........2007-03-31
It has some pop, some R&B and even some dance music. From start to finish I can seriously listen to this CD. While Long Ago is the weakest track here, it doesn't make for a bad song. It just sounds a bit outdated.
My favorites are:
Open Arms
I Am Free
Fantasy
When I Saw You
and
Daydream Interlude.
Don't miss out on Mariah's best album, right behind it? Butterfly. Buy it today!! In fact, maybe you should buy two and share with a friend. ^_^
It's Just A Sweet Fantasy.......2007-02-26
This is one of Mariah's best albums, no matter what other people may say. It's either Daydream, Music Box, or Butterfly in my opinion. Here's the list of the songs
Fantasy - Great, but I love the Bad Boy Mix of it better
Underneath The Stars - Love this song. It's like a stepper's cut/slow jam. Perfect song for those summer nights.
One Sweet Day - You gotta love the colaboration with Boyz 2 Men. It's a sad song, but I love it
Open Arms - The Journey cover. Love Mariah's version - it's more of an R&B ballad
Always Be My Baby - Love it, and always had.
I Am Free - It's okay. Not the best song on the album
When I Saw You - Great song! Another ballad with great lyrics
Long Ago - The hip-hop jam. It's a nice song
Melt Away - Love this song. Another great ballad - it's one of those rainy day songs
Forever - More like a doo-wop song. Great!!
Daydream Interlude (Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix) - Love it, even though it's a shorter version of the Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix. The full mix is 8 minutes long and way better than the edited version.
Looking In - Love the song. Anyone can relate to it - the final ballad from the CD.
Overall, if you love Mariah's ballads, you'll love this CD

Early buzz on The Emancipation of Mimi predicted that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"--the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to bestselling female artist of all time status--and mostly it is. But because of the small army of talent involved in its assembly, the album is way more than just a comeback vehicle. For proof, try straight-ahead, look-out-Beyonce-Mimi's-still-got-it "Mine Again," or '70s-soul cuddle-up, "Circles:" a don't-attempt-on-American-Idol love song, or the gospel dazzlers "Fly Like a Bird," and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for the tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocals into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals, Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free. --Tammy La Gorce

Mariah Never Left.......2007-08-02
Being a huge fan of Mariah Carey's music, this may read like a biased review of her "comeback" album. Regardless, it is my opinion that the Emancipation of Mimi is one her best ever in the sense that it is an eclectic mix of different styles targeting a wider variety of audience.
Mariah never "left" as many have alleged; her voice has always been there. It is just that the delivery was not packaged so well in her most recent outing. This album, however does a great job of showcasing her incredible talents.
From the opening tune of "It's Like That" through the mega-hit ballad "We belong together" and the catchy "Shake it off", this album takes the listener along a fantastic ride of musical joy. My other favorites on this album include "Stay the Night" and "Circles". The gospel-themed "Fly Like A Bird" and the sweet, sentimental "Don't Forget About Us" (added in the re-release version) are some of the other prominent selections.
With "The Emancipation of Mimi", Mariah continues to show exactly how music can and should be made.
WOW!!! Awesome, Classy, Enjoyable.......2007-08-02
Mandisa, excellent job! Showing her ability to sing several different genres of music and make them all sound great. The music really speaks to the heart. With emphasis on Love, this True Beauty used her vocals to teach, encourage, and inspire.
Classy..........2007-07-31
I Remember when this Album first came out in spring 2005. I was totally Addicted to it. I remember having to choose between either Jennifer Lopez's "Rebirth" or this Album. I see I made the right choice.
As soon as I put the CD in the player and pressed play, I was Hooked. I chose this CD because of the Album's First single "It's Like That". The song is just a great slow Party song. It's definetly the Classiest song on the Album, and as Always she sounds great. I just love the beat. It sounds pretty ordinary, but then the chorus comes on, and it's just great. My fave track.
"We Belong Together" is also a perfect slow jam R'n'B number. I got addicted to this song too. It's one of her best R'n'B songs. Her Voice just fits this song well, and because her voice and the music match, it's a pleasure to listen to. I love the sound, and I remember it got played on radio everywhere. I do think as a hit it was Overrated, and preffered "It's Like That", but the song did deserve the air play it got. I Love the chorus. The best part of the song is at the end where her voice gets stronger.
"Shake It Off" was catchy, and a good choice for a single. I love the beat, and think it's a fun hip hop song. I Also loved "Get Your Number" because it was a fun song, I think it's one of the best on the album, and one of the more upbeat.
I Also liked the ballads "Circles", "Mine Again" and "Joy Ride" because her voice sounds great, and the songs give Mariah a chance to really belt her voice. They sound very well done, and posh. "Joy Ride" is more of a slow jam, but is one of the better R'n'B Love Ballads on the disc. It's a pretty sugary song. The other two tracks are very sophisticated and classy. They are the songs that compliment her vocals best on the album, and are the major voice ballads.
The other songs are good too, but I just wanted to comment on my favourites. I love this Album, because I can just pop it in the CD Player, and listen from start to finish. It is a very relaxing album, with a blend of Pop, R'n'B and Jazz songs. I Just really Enjoy listening to this Album. It's one of her better ones.
Another of my favourite tracks is the closer "Fly Like A Bird". Here we find Mariah returning to her gospel routes, and it is one of the best songs on the album. Her vocals are backed by a choir, and have never been better. They soar on this song. There are also snippets of Martin Luther King in the song. The Lyrics are also really great, and uplifting. "Somehow I know that there's a place up above. The world, and struggeling. Free of all atrocities and suffering. Because I feel that unconditional Love, from one who cares enough for me, to erase all my worries and let me be free, to Fly Like A Bird. Take To The Sky. I need you now Lord. Carry me high. don't let the world wake me tonight. I need the strength of you to survive". The song ends this great Album, on a high note.
In my oppinion this is Mimi's best record of the 21st Century. Her most Sophisticated and Classiest Record. It doesn't recapture the glory of past records like "Daydream" or "Butterfly", but it's a different type of Album. After one Flop album, and one that didn't do as well as she would have liked, Mimi finally regains her crown with this Album, and finally finds her Freedom....This is Mimi's Emancipation, and Crowning Glory.
I'm addicted to this cd.......2007-07-30
I love the r & b tracks. She is so fly. The ballads are so so; they are not as good as her earlier work. If you're looking for classic Mariah, this is not the album for you. I love it.
Music Library of Sonya Armfield.......2007-07-09
I love Mariah. I didn't give this album 5 stars, because while I think its good, its not her best. Still, she is one of my favorite singers.

Columbia Records rushed this compilation of patriotic and inspirational favorites into production in the wake of the September 11, 2001, attacks. The title song is a new version by Celine Dion similar to the performance she gave on the Tribute to Heroes telethon, while John Mellencamp's "Peaceful World" is included in an alternate, acoustic treatment. Each listener may find his or her own favorites, but few will be left unmoved by a selection that also includes Bruce Springsteen's "Land of Hope and Dreams," Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge over Troubled Water," and renderings of "America the Beautiful," "This Land Is Your Land," and "Amazing Grace" by, respectively, Frank Sinatra, Pete Seeger, and Tramaine Hawkins. Bill Withers's "Lean on Me" closes the disc on a plainspoken note that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of rescuers and other Americans since the tragedies. A back-cover note promises that a "substantial portion of the proceeds received by Sony Music [Columbia's parent company] from sales of this album will be donated to the Twin Towers Fund." --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Blown away............2007-03-06
I am not a Celine Dion fan normally, but stumbled onto this mix for many of the other titles on this CD. The brief download does not give her version of God Bless America justice. This arrangement builds slowly, eliciting "what the heck are you listening to?" comments and grows until anyone in listening range has goose bumps. I played it while stopped for hours on the freeway in front of Moore Park College where the long lines formed for Ronald Reagan's casket review and people on the side of the road actually gathered around the car and asked me to replay it. A must for any fan of patriotic music.
Uplifting!.......2005-06-20
This is a very nice patriotic CD with some great songs. My favorites are God Bless America, sung by Celine Dion. America The Beautful, sung by Frank Sinatra. This Land Is Your Land, sung by Peter Seeger. Peaceful World, sung by John Mellencamp. Blowin' In The Wind, sung by Bob Dylan. Bridge Oer Troubled Water, sung by Simon & Garfunkel. Good Bless The U.S.A, sung by Lee Greenwood. And The Star-Spangled Banner, sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The songs are all beautiful and uplifting!
A Good Americana Compilation.......2003-10-27
This compilation was made soon after the 9/11 in a wake of patriotic feelings among Americans. It comprises songs of different genres, from rock ballads ("Peaceful World" by John Mellencamp, "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers) to ballads ("Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon&Garfunkel), to big Americana hits ("God Bless America" by Celine Dion, "America the Beautiful" by Frank Sinatra, "This Land Is Your Land" by Pete Seeger, "We Shall Overcome" by Mahalia Jackson) to the National Anthem "The Star Spangled Banner" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, plus "Hero" by Mariah Carey, "There's a Hero" by Billy Gilman, and a few more.
This CD is a good compilation of songs that may lift the spirits of the nation, as well as some truly inspirational melodies. Performances by Tramaine Hawkins ("Amazing Grace"), Billy Gilman, Celine Dion, Simon&Garfunkel, Bill Withers are the gems of this CD. The same can be said about the National Anthem, though you might find some acappella version (by Lee Ann Rimes, for example) not less appealing.
Personally I bought this CD because of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA". But this turned out to be the worst track. It is probably some remix. Almost nothing is left from the original version, neither its marching touch, nor the integrity that left your skin covered with goosebumps, inspired you and made you realise the true spirit of American patriotism. The version from this CD is more on the jazz, relaxed side, which is killing for such a song.
On the whole, this CD deserves your attention if you need a compilation of Americana music, or at least a flavour of it.
A great CD, powerful and moving.......2003-10-24
True to its title the music CD God Bless America is a masterful tribute to America. This collection of patriotic music includes many soul-stirring songs; I especially like the selections by Lee Greenwood, Frank Sinatra, and Bill Withers. All of the songs on this CD are powerful and will remind you how great this country truly is.
God Bless America is great for working, driving, or listening to all by itself. I guarantee that you will not regret purchasing this collection of American songs. This CD draws together an immense pool of talent and is extraordinarily successful at illustrating the greatest nation in the world.
Moving Patriotic tribute!!!.......2003-05-25
Well done! Loved Celine Dion's version of God Bless America in tribute for her adopted county. Pete Seeger's This land is your land is equally great. Has the beloved Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA!

5 STARS!!!!!.......2007-06-07
I love this album and it is really sad that people are sleeping on it (lol it is six times platinum). This is a complete album that you can listen to from beginning to end. Mariah really did a great job of showing how talented she really is. It is a mixture of everything, this cd is up beat yet laid back, and it's a classic. This is her best album in my opinion and I can't wait for the next one.
MY TOP FIVE (This was a tough selection process b/c the entire album is great)
1. Joy Ride
2. Mine Again
3. Circles
4. Say Something
5. Fly Like a Bird
Good, but Mariah screams too much for my tastes here........2007-05-31
I'm gonna start off by also saying that we all shouldn't deny that Mariah's voice isn't what it was back when her first couple of albums were released. It's not bad, but it has waned a bit.
The only songs I skip sometimes aren't even bad. It's just sometimes Mariah gets the yelling (Circles, Stay The Night) and I have to skip 'em.
If you don't have ANY of Mariah's albums though (who wouldn't have at least one?) I would start with either Emotions or Daydream. But if you like your R&B music, then get this one. If you do get this one, make sure it's the Platinum Edition because the extra songs are worth it. The only reason I could see someone getting the original Emancipation is for the beautiful cover which is superior to this one. But don't both look great?!
Some highlights are Shake It Off, One And Only, Your Girl, Fly Like A Bird, Don't Forget About Us and Makin' It Last All Night (What It Do).
This CD has it's highlights but it isn't her best.
I hope you enjoyed my review. Have a look at my others if you would like.
3 1/2 stars. ^_~

Mariah Stepped Her Game Up!!!.......2007-02-28
Mariah stepped her game up from her last 2 albums and the buzz was definitely worth it. The first half of the album is good and the end was good, but the middle is a bunch of fillers. "Fly Like A Bird" is definitely the best track you kinda get a feel of the old Mariah back it the 90's. Great job and can't wait for the next album.
Great PURCHASE!.......2007-02-13

Linda Ronstadt was America's sweetheart of the '70s, because she was able to combine a pretty face, a pretty voice and a safe personality. Her songs might be full of big notes and high emotions, but they satisfied every predictable expectation of a love ballad or good-time rocker. Mariah Carey is America's sweetheart of the '90s for the exact same reasons. Music Box> topped the Billboard album charts, yielding number-one singles like "Dreamlover" and "Hero." The titles, one a hollow Minnie Riperton knock-off and the other a stiff Barbra Streisand imitation, are tip-offs to Carey's reliance on untethered fantasy (she's the fantasizer in the lyrics and the fantasy object in the videos). These songs, coªwritten and co-produced like most of the album by Walter Anasieff and Carey herself, are constructed to show off her dizzying soprano, not to provide an original approach to a well-worn subject. Even when she gets a strong ballad to sing, like her current singles--Babyface's "Never Forget You" or Badfinger/Nilsson's "Without You"--she overdoes the self-pity bit so much that the song loses its dramatic tension. --Geoffrey Himes

Open up the box - and enjoy!.......2007-02-21
The three tracks I came to know via heavy radio airplay in the early-90s were "Dreamlover," "Hero," and "Music Box," but it wasn't until now that I finally got my hands on this gem of a CD, and I'm sorry it's taken me so much time to catch up on some great pop music.
I still can't get enough of the rhythm of "Dreamlover," and "Anytime You Need A Friend" is right up there with Dionne Warwick's (et al) "That's What Friends Are For." The title track itself is a very pretty ballad.
This is Mariah Carey at the top of her game. She would do it one more time with "DayDream," but then sink into doing more covers and duets as the 90s went on (and I'll never figure out why because she sure didn't need help in the singing department!).
The CD is 42 minutes exactly, and it's time well spent. - Donna Di Giacomo
Bonus track missing.......2006-10-30
The album was first rate..except the bonus track (on the orginal CD).."Everything Fades Away" was missing.... This bonus track was a highlight was ordering the product online...else the CD quality,re- mastering..the packaging etc are all superb..
Flawless.......2006-10-28
This is one of my favorite CD's of all time! Mariah's voice is outstanding, and several of her biggest hits were on this CD, including the beautiful and inspirational "Hero," the song that will get stuck in your head (and your I-pod) for days "Dreamlover," and the heartache-filled "Without You," to name a few.
The truth is that every track on this CD is fabulous. I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Mariah back in the old days.......2006-09-14
Thu was on of her best albums along with
Mariah carey
Emotions and her christmas album.
Vocally it wa majorlly impressive and it sounded great
there were no songs on here I didn't like.
Fluffy But Satisfying.......2006-08-15
Although she has an undeniably good voice, I'm still not much of a Mariah fan. Her lyrics are ridiculously school-girlish and she never patricuarly personal (with the possible exception of 1997's "Close My Eyes"). Worse, she always seems to stay in her comfort zone and rarely tries anything new.
However, this album shows decent effort. It's no masterpiece, but at least it showcases her voice well. Plus, she wisely brings in such formidable collaborators such as Babyface and the C+C Music Factory to improve her corny sound.
Dreamlover- 9/10- this is a good song. Some bizarre lyrics like "the kind of love that won't fly away", but at least it has a nice beat.
Hero- 8/10- not a big fan of this song. It's meaningful, but it seems like she's desperatly trying to suck up to her fans.
Anytime You Need a Friend- 10/10- nice gospel song.
Music Box- 8/10- I though it would be a up-tempo track, but it's yet another lame ballad.
Now That I KNow- 10/10- Great disco song. Like this one.
Never Forget You- 10/10- pretty good. Babyface is always reliable.

Mariah Carey's great debut.......2007-07-13
Mariah's debut is full of amazing songs. All the singles except for "There's Got To Be A Way" went to number one on the Billboard chart. That's quite a feat for any artist. Her vocals are amazing and this is some of her best singing and production in the history of her career. The non singles are good too such as "Sent Up From Above", "Alone In Love" and my favorite "All In Your Mind" which kind of has a reggae feel to it. She tackles various music styles that suit her voice perfectly. I don't really remember when she first came out but I got this album later used and enjoy listening to it from time to time. This album is a must have for any Mariah fan. It's even better than "The Emancipation of Mimi" which is saying alot. While I think "Charmbracelet'" is her best album this is still a great work of art from beginning to end. Highly reccomended for any Mariah/Mimi fan.
Mariah's debut is OK but it suffers from something..........2007-04-29
I spent minutes looking through these reviews, seeing all of the 5-star ratings. I was appalled at all of them because honestly, this CD is far from perfect. I do think that the singles she released are the best songs here: Vision of Love, I Don't Wanna Cry and Love Takes Time and Someday. I liked Vanishing and Alone In Love though. And Sent From Above was OK.
The rest is pretty forgettable. I also would like to add that this CD sounds so outdated these days. It really didn't age too well.
If anyone wants to see Mariah at her best, look to Daydream, her 4th album (excluding Merry Christmas).

What a debut!.......2007-01-20
Music was undergoing quite a change in 1990. So-called "hair" metal still ruled the charts (which I love to this day), but you could feel the change in the air and folks such as Mariah Carey coming onto the music scene breathed much needed fresh air into the increasingly stale music scene of that time.
While more in-depth reviews of her debut album can be found elsewhere here (and those folks can do a bit more justice to it than I could), I have to agree with the sentiment that she had an amazing voice and musical talent. The thing that really made me a fan (if only casual) was the fact that she wrote her own songs. Record company creation she was not, and that's a BIG plus in my book.
The album opens and closes with two classic 90s tunes - "Vision of Love" (which initially propelled Carey to the top of the pop charts) and "Love Takes Time," which I love the title to as too many love songs give impressions of instant, true blue love. The lyrics to her early material were poetic, sincere, and true to life.
Truth be told, I'm sorry that Mariah became complacent by using music samples, doing covers (where *some* are good, but the majority stink), and teaming up with rappers that did nothing for her musically. She never needed anyone to assist her in the singing department and I'm positive the well of strong, original material hasn't dried up.
Her debut disc is Mariah at her best. I was thoroughly amazed that she managed to release another disc chock-full of hits with "Emotions" just one year later in 1991. To see her have a nervous breakdown, star in a stinker of a movie ("Glitter"), and release an album that actually celebrates an alter-ego (so the story goes. Sounds like split personality syndrome to me) has been disappointing for someone like me who remembers the life Mariah helped breathe back into a music scene that really needed it in 1990.
Regardless, this is a pop music essential. - Donna Di Giacomo
the vision of an amazing voice!.......2006-10-10

Mariah Carey Enters The Music Scene With Her Debut Album: 3½-4 Stars.......2006-07-21
As Mariah Carey entered the music scene in 1990 with her debut single Vision of Love, she certainly caught the attention of millions. Her brilliant voice combined with excellent pop songs proved to the perfect formula for success. Her self-titled album Mariah Carey sold by the millions, ending up selling over an impressive 15 million copies. However, it was not until Dreamlover was released as the first single from her Music Box album, I paid any attention to the songbird - yet she has become one of the few artists, I always keep an eye on.
As Vision Of Love introduced the world to Mariah Carey, it was obvious that Miss Carey would be a force to reckon with. Her debut single is among my favorite Mariah Carey songs. The impressive pop ballad is a haunting and heartfelt offering. Especially, the part where Mariah repeats the lyrics, twice, is wonderful - it almost functions as a duet. This is Carey, when she is at her absolute best; vocally and musically. There's Got To Be A Way is a lovely up-tempo song about the problems of the world and how, as the title suggests, there has got to be a way to unite the human race, resolving the problems of the world. The catchy chorus is certainly the most memorable part of the song. Another favorite and no.1 single, I believe, is the sad I Don't Wanna Cry, which is an emotional ballad, showcasing Mariah's vocal range. The up-tempo Someday has an infectious beat with lyrics stating that someday a former boyfriend will regret leaving as he will come back, begging to be taken back. The version on the album is quite good; however, the version on Mariah's Unplugged EP album is to be preferred, in my opinion.
Vanishing is the power-ballad of the album. Overall, it is a display of Mariah's various vocal talents. The ''big'' vocals do tend to overshadow the song in general. However, Vanishing is simply impressive both vocally and production-wise. The haunting lyrics and Mariah's emotional voice are a perfect mix. All In Your Mind starts off slowly, soon picks up pace, culminating in the faster chorus. The song is a nice offering and Mariah's acrobatic vocals near the end of the song are impressive. Alone In love is a bland mid-tempo ballad and quite forgettable - except for the vocals of Miss Carey. You Found Me is a mixture between ''rock'' and pop. It is certainly inspired by a tougher sound. I, actually, like the chorus. Sent From Up Above is a tad corny, yet it is still an enjoyable song. Moving on, Prisoner is an up-tempo song with Mariah Carey's attempt at rapping - she does not do a very good job - yet you cannot help smile while Carey does her thing. Unlike others, I simply do not understand the appeal of Love Takes Times. Admittedly, it is a nice ballad but hardly no.1 material nor a Mariah Carey classic. Each to their own liking, I guess.
Mariah's self-titled debut is quite impressive, yet it is not without flaws. There is some of Mariah's best material on the album: Vision Of Love, I Don't Wanna Cry, Someday, Vanishing and All In My Mind. However, her debut album also contains lackluster material: Sent From Up Above, Alone In Love and Prisoner are mediocre material, which keeps the album from receiving a perfect 4. With that being said, the album is still a treat to listen to due to excellent vocals and fantastic pop songs.

'Emotions' Runs High and Shows Mariah's Vocal Range To Great Effect.......2007-07-07
Not one to contently bask in the glow of her burning fame in the early 1990's, Mariah Carey grabbed her lunch pail and quickly churned out a very enjoyable follow-up to her debut smash 'Mariah Carey'. With the enormous success of her first CD, it was an intimidating act for any artist to follow it up. But she succeeds admirably with 'Emotions'.
It shows Mariah was no fluke, displaying notes and pitch-perfect vocals that even today very few female singers can match. But not all the songs are keepers. I usually play only the first 5 songs and skip the last 5. My favorite is still 'Make It Happen'. The power and range Mariah displays on this track is remarkable. She pierces the heavens with her high notes and enormous lung power. I think Mariah really sings this song like she means it because she's writing the song from personal experience to not give up on her dreams of 'Making It'.
I think Tommy Mottola used 'Emotions' as a follow-up CD to spotlight Mariah's voice more so than the songs themselves. You can hear every part of Mariah's vocal range in the choice of songs on this CD. Obviously her upper range gets more of a workout on this CD than any other one in her entire Sony/Virgin/Island catalog. I think 'Emotions' was released as a vehicle to show her vocal chops and it succeeded in every way.
I wouldn't say the quality of songs is right up there compared with her debut CD or later ones (especially 'Daydreams'), but her vocal high register has never sounded better. Keep that tea kettle whistling, Mariah !
This hasn't aged at all.......2007-01-21
While never a mega-fan of Mariah's, I was bowled over by her voice, the fact that she wrote her own songs, and that she released another album full of strong material just a little over a year after her debut. Some folks would have suffered creative burnout, but Mariah was just getting started.
I bought a copy of her self-titled 1990 debut, but I never did get around to owning a copy of "Emotions" (something that's going to change very soon). I don't why because I remember "Emotions," "Can't Let Go" (which, as much as I roll my eyes over love songs, has one of the prettiest melodies I've ever heard with a love song), and "Make It Happen" getting constant radio airplay in 1991 - and I enjoyed those songs each and every time.
Her lyrics were poetic and struck a chord with the then-teenager me, and her sound, while pop, had strong soulful overtones. She helped continue breathing life into a stale music scene and that feeling still resonates with me a little over 15 years after its release.
It can't be said enough that "Emotions" is classic 90s, is a great addition to the CD collection, and is Mariah at the top of her game.
And, best of all, the album's sound doesn't sound aged. - Donna Di Giacomo
Mariah Carey Causes Emotions: 4-4½ stars.......2006-07-26
As Mariah Carey released her second album in 1991, an enormous pressure laid on her shoulders to follow up the success of her debut album. Despite the fact that sales of Emotions did not reach the same level as Mariah Carey, it still manage to do extremely well, selling over a whopping 10 million copies. Not bad for a sophomore album!
The title-track Emotions was released to audience as the lead single, providing listeners with a contagious pop beat. The song displays Mariah's high pitch notes and awesome background vocals which include Trez Lorenz and David Cole. And You Don't Remember is a superb ballad where Mariah's pleading voice belts out how her lover does not remember the love, they shared. The chorus is a delight to listen too - simply wonderful. My favourite song on the album is up next; the splendid Can't Let Go. It is no wonder that many consider it among Mariah's best ballads to date. Released as a single, the groovy Make It Happen got stuck at the no.2 position, I recall. However, the teasingly song is a wonderful treat. The overall message of the song: You should never give up, work hard and your dreams will come true in the end. If It's Over, a collaboration between Mariah and Carole King, has a taunt of a jazzy mood to it. Mariah Carey belts out the chorus powerfully. Once again, I prefer the Unplugged version - however, this is purely a matter of taste.
You're So Cold starts of with Mariah's praticing her vocal cords, functioning as a build-up to the actual song. The lyrics are a tad annoying, yet the song is still quite joyous. Albums tend to get weaker at the end, which is also the case with Emotions. To Be Around You, Till The End of Time and The Wind are likeable songs, however they do not hold up well against the rest of the album's excellent songs. The ballad-like So Blessed is another highlight of mine. The dreamy melody culminates with the more aggressive chorus especially the belting of the words ''You are my heart'' followed by the softer ''My everthing'''.
Emotions is one of Mariah Carey's best studio-albums, in my opinion. The combination of brilliant pop ballads and excellent up-tempo songs are clearly present on the album. If you are a big fan of Mariah's poppier songs or crafted pop songs in general, Emotions will surely be a safe bet. The only complaint I have with the album is that some of the material is a tad weak compared to the brilliant songs, which are to be found on Emotions; however, this is hardly abnormal. Emotions is a very solid effort and a better album than Mariah's debut.

Fantastic.......2006-02-18
Mariah Carey burst onto the music scene with her fantastic self-titled debut album, and followed it up with her second album "Emotions". Essentially "Emotions" is in the same mould as her first album - beautiful vocals, heartfelt lyrics and an emotional connection with every songs.
Standouts in this album include:
"Emotions" - a good dancing track that features Mariah's piercing vocals.
"Can't Let go" - a beautiful ballad. One of Mariah's best songs
"Make it Happen" - A description of Mariah's life prior to becoming a superstar. Very catchy and uplifting
"The wind" - Very last track of the album. Mournful, breathtaking vocals combined with Mariah's sombre voice. Truly Phenomenal
Emotions is a truly magnificent album, featuring a wonderful collection of songs, each one a true delight to listen to.
