To those unfamiliar with Dee Carstensen, The Map at first blush sounds a great deal like Meredith Brooks. There are differences, however, and they're well worth noting. For one thing, Carstensen is a stronger singer, and for another, the arrangements on The Map are more adventurous than those on Blurring the Edges. Carstensen ventures into shuffle-beat territory with "Be My Man" (a more assertive song than the title suggests) and "Hurricane." "Holding Back an Ocean" is particularly evocative, with its rhythm and sonic texture emphasizing the theme. And there are some nice moments buried in songs that are otherwise unexceptional: The acoustic-guitar opening to "The Last Time It Mattered" is a strong point. Carstensen is also to be credited for tackling some pretty interesting themes; the yearning of "Saviour" and the mythical subject matter of "Pandora's Box" are especially notable. --Genevieve Williams

Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20

Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

JOHN WILLIAMS 40 Years of Film Music.......2007-01-10

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

This soundtrack was a good try because this is not the London Symphony Orchestra with John Williams conducting.
They have a little to much energy on the Raiders March (if you own the original soundtrack you'll know what I mean)

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" I believe is one one of John Williams best scores. Unfortunately, it has been out of print for some time. This album contains excerpts from all three of the Indiana Jones films. They are not the original recordings but this is a good effort and actually is quite an enjoyable listen. I have gotten alot of enjoyment from this CD. If you enjoy the compositions of John Williams or are a fan of Indiana Jones as I am , I would recommend this very much.

No John Williams mean STUPID MUSIC! .......2005-11-02

There is no way one can honestly call this Indiana Jones music with a clear conscience. The chords are off, and some of the songs are even missing NOTES! They slur when they aren't supposed to, they're giving John Williams THE GREAT a bad name! Indiana Jones movies are best ever in the entire world, and this "soundtrack" or "recording" or WHATEVER it's SUPPOSED TO BE, is dragging them through the mud! Horrible.

Come on, Amazon, you list this under "Soundtracks" when it clearly is but a later rerecording of the original score. A rerecordings is not a sountrack! The average customer would think something you list inder "Soundtracks" would in fact be a soundtrack and would find out it actually is but a rerecording of the score only by going over the details of these reviews. It might be great music, but a rerecording is not a soundtrack!

Since there is no album from John Williams himself who brings these great soundtracks of these 3 fantastic movies together, you may say that one is well done!
OK, it's not the Boston Pops Orchestra or the London Symphonic Orchestra, and OK, it's not the master himself who is conducting.
But Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do it very well! They have kept the spirit of the director and the soundtrack-composer. One little detail: the brass-section overdoes sometimes the rest of the instruments...
Conclusion: a must have CD, and the price is OK!

Like Beyond the Missouri Sky, Pat Metheny's score for A Map of the World is music stripped to its most intimate roots. The fusion master is joined here only by acoustic bassist Steve Rodby and percussionist Dave Samuels on 28 vast soundscapes that range from a mere 22-seconds to more than six minutes. Metheny fingerpicks his acoustic guitar throughout these tracks, though a New Age-style keyboard occasionally creeps in. The drama, starring Sigourney Weaver (based on the Jane Hamilton novel), obviously has its darker moments, reflected on cues such as "Alone" and "Discovery." But for the most part, this hour-long soundtrack (featuring a full 25 minutes of music not included in the movie) suffers from sonic monotony. The light string orchestrations that accompany some of these tracks never sound original, and Metheny's guitar work--though certainly soulful--lacks its usual improvisational beauty. --Jason Verlinde

Music from the movie MAP OF THE WORLD.......2007-06-26

This CD includes all the songs from the movie MAP OF THE WORLD with Segourney Weaver. There are some songs that are more appealing than others (to my ears). However, since the movie takes the viewer through all the ups and downs of Sigourney's character, there are bound to be some depressing songs in the mix. My favorite songs though, are the more joyful songs from the movie.

Pat Metheny always does such a wonderful job at adding music to soundtracks. For this, Pat gets a FIVE*. But as far as whether I would listen to the entire CD from start to finish, my answer is "no". As I said before, I would skip over a few of the songs and focus on the smoother & happier jazz songs.
Just my opinion.

Moving to the Soul - Soothing to the Ears.......2006-11-17

I have been a passionate lover of the music of Pat Metheny since first hearing the first 'Pat Metheny Group' album back in 1978. I was blown away with the 'freshness' of his very original sound and the creative originality of the band playing together. Over the years, I've watched with great interest as he has grown and matured as an artist. His prodigous output speaks for itself. Pat is an artist totally immersed in and dedicated to his purpose in life, and the fruits of this dedication show. His music continues to be highly original and fresh with each album and with each concept and each collaboration explored.

Pat has released a handful of 'solo' albums over the years, from the early 'New Chataqua' in the late seventies to the passionate 'Secret Story' in 1992, and this exquisite gem, 'Map of the World'. As one of my very favorite artists, it is really hard to pick one favorite work, but I love this album so much, I just had to write this review of it.

Start to finish, this is a singular work that is diverse yet cohesive, creatively brilliant, beautiful and so very very listenable. In short, I feel it is Pat Metheny at his best, sans 'The Group'. Map of the World is a meditative journey of artistic excellence, comprised of 28 segments that all hold together, yet change in mood. It is a seamless work: You really don't know where one track ends and the next begins as it is one continuim. In that way, the album is like an orchestral piece with several movements, centered around and always returning to Pat's delicate, beautiful acoustic guitar work, always interesting, and to my ears... never boring. Several 'themes' serve to hold the entire piece together as he weaves a tapestry of sound textures that continually change, varying the mood. Segments are buffered by sometimes melancholy and emotionally moving orchestral arrangements, beautifully done.

Map of the World is a very different animal to most of the noise out there. It's less of a collection of songs as it is a singular 'experience' sounds and emotions. It's most appreciated when one can just sit back, close their eyes and 'loose themselves' in it. It's a vibe I enjoy returning to now and again. In fact, unless you can do that, you really are not hearing it.

Pat's facility for creating beautiful, creative compositions is amazing. However, a disclaimer is in order: One needs to be quiet enough inside of their own soul to really 'hear' this music and appreciate what Pat is all about. If you are not yet familiar with this living master of music, then this is a great place to start your collection. If you have any appreciation at all for beauty, sensitivity and peace, you will LOVE this.

A Stunning Leap Forward .......2007-06-30

Firstly, I will only evaluate this album based on its high points, simply because they are so frequent and more picturesque than anything I have heard in music since the Art of Noise's The Seduction of Claude Debussy.
The thing Telefon Tel Aviv has been able to do so brilliantly is create, polish, and perfect a sound that is as different as it is gorgeous, and yet it remains abundant in sound and concept.
The first element that draws in attention, say, if you were flipping through a song from Map on the radio, is the elegant mastery of their signature beat sound. An enormous spectrum of traditional drums and glitchy sounds come together, weaving in and out of the tempo and melody. Most of the time, throughout the steady, down-tempo electronic music, little blips will pop out hear and there, adding an impressive level of detail that I have never heard in music before.
Coupled with their tendency to "bit crush" sounds and instruments from time to time (looping it extremely fast), the beats themselves have a powerful effect in and of themselves.
The use of a rhoades piano and an acoustic/shimmering electric guitar are common with Telefon Tel Aviv, but a few songs of Map are actually joined by a live orchestra. It is the addition of real strings when merged with the tweaked out beats that truly makes Map of What is Effortless an album of epic proportions. Nothing like this has been done so well before, and when you reach the climax of the last song (At the Edge), you'll be craving more sound from the most brilliant electronic artists of our time.
Does "My Week Beats Your Year" appeal to a crowd that might not be interested in down-tempo IDM? Sure. Are Damon's vocals reminiscent of other R&B singers? I don't see why not. Does that, in any way, take away from the ultimate appeal of the album? Not if you're into something that will raise the bar beyond anything that has been attempted in this genre before.

Well, I love the music and beats. I hate the vocals. I guess what it comes down to is, "Do you like uninspired run-of-the-mill male R&B vocals?" If so, this album is most definitely for you. For me, there are few things in the music world that annoy me more than average R&B music and lyrics.

Not saying that Telefon Tel Aviv aren't talented guys, just saying that this album is totally not for me.

I have never heard of Telefon Tel Aviv until I purchased a compilation featuring "My Week Beats Your Year." I like this CD very much. Some songs are just instrumentals, but those tracks too have character and possess emotion. Simple. Smooth. Emotionally engaging. Cool.

My only complaint is that I wish there were more songs on the CD.

ANYTHING BUT EFFORTLESS!!!.......2005-09-13

Why are folks so quick to put down an album that features a few vocals??? One reviewer here mentioned that they were unnecessary, but in my opinion, the vocals give an added flair to what may just sound like pedestrian arrangements. Notwithstanding the incredibly dreamy "Map of What Is Effortless" is anything but effortless in its production. Full of tight orchestrations, thumpin' basslines, innovative techniques and sensuous, oft-time melanchonic, vocals, the sophomore release from Telefon Tel Aviv is sure to be an instant classic to downtempo/IDM fans. I hadn't heard the first release from these guys, but I'm sure it's just as good if not better than this material. These guys are like a cross between Boards of Canada and Four Tet, only with vocals. Highly Recommended!!!

A Beautifully Written Piece of Art.......2007-06-29

Based on a purely classical mind set, this is one of the most beautiful string tribute albums there are. Granted, Muse fans who usually don't listen to string albums probably won't appreciate it, but for the classical lover, this is the tribute album to start with. The String Tribute to Muse is an absolute masterpiece amongst tributes.

Good, but not for the casual fan.......2007-05-19

I agree very much with Brian Allen; you should only spend the money on this one if you happen to be either a big fan or strings or a big fan of Muse, and I fall very much into the latter. As far as the songs themselves, some sound beautiful. "Bliss" nearly breaks your heart as an all-string tribute. But other songs are hard-core alternative rock, like "Stockholm Syndrome" so songs like that sound awkward at best. If you like a song by Muse here and there, only have one or two of their CDs, and think, "Oh, they're alright," don't bother purchasing it. However for big Muse fans, it's a nice treat.

I play cello in a string quartet and am a huge Muse fan as well. As far as this compilation of, perhaps, some of Muse's greatest hits, a string quartet version just doesn't depict the kind of emotional response that I get from listening to the orignal trio. I listened to some of these tracks and thought I was listening to my buddies playing Muse songs by ear and just messing around. Save your money, or better yet, for the same price go out and treat yourself to the original albums that these songs derived from (Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution)!

Well, before I say anything about this tribute album, let me state clearly for the record that I am a HUGE Muse fan, and always will be. I'm also very fond of classical music, so I thought this album would be incredible. Unfortunately, that assumption was way off. To me, this was basically like a bunch of recordings of people humming Muse songs. The original tracks have so much power and emotion, but these versions seem cheap and empty. If they would have had a full orchistra it would have been awesome. The string quartet just doesn't cut it, at least not for me. Of course, this is all in my humble opinion.

Good, but not great.......2005-12-06

I'll do an actual review later, but here are some of my thoughts on this album, since only one other person rated it so far. The songs all sound great, but they hardly differ from the original versions, and none of them are really that much different. Most of them sound note for note the same, but just played on the strings. This is ok because Muse has a lot of classical influence in their songs, but I wish the makers would have put more effort into this. If you're a casual fan you can skip, but if you really like string tributes or Muse you should get it. Some better string tributes, which are less basic, are the ones for Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, and A Perfect Circle.

A Little Underwhelmed but Good Stuff.......2007-03-01

I've heard a lot of Howie Gelb so this album is my introduction to Giant Sand. First off, this ain't country, but more of an amalgam of Lou Reed (vocals) and Tom Waits without the histrionics (Muss) and maybe a touch of Greg Brown (Fool of a Girl). I do love the open space melancholy that pervades most of these songs and the low key singing style adds to all of this. This album is certainly eclectic, as the title states, but I'm not sure it serves the album as a whole. Maybe I picked the wrong album to start with.

Simmers of summer.......2007-01-13

Previously I've felt unsure how to approach the various albums by Giant Sand. From what I've read, the harshest critique I can think of the band is that from record to record, the music is uneven, ranging from astonishingly good to just so-so and over-reaching. That's true for any band, and like Gelb sings in the song `Muss': paradise don't come without mistakes. My experience from the sandmen's `Chore of Enchantment' to `Is All Over the Map' has been nothing short of epic, or should I say.... Classico. To me, the progression of this record from `Chore' is no less solid, yet the pace of many of the songs is welcoming. `Chore' dealt with the dirtiness of the "ever-present", especially the pain associated with the loss of the band's co-founder, Rainer Ptacek. This album is the aftermath, the rising sun simmering in a clear sky. For the most part, this album is louder, faster, yet no less a catch. Album to album, Howe Gelb always seems to know how to infuse just the right amount of cool, humor, and emotion in combination with a talented group of contributors. That combination comes through in the music as a sound unclassifiable, simply because of all the styles mixed within. It's not just country, southwestern, nor is it jazz, internationally tinted (French and Latin/Caribbean), nor is it funk. I think this album epitomizes rock & roll because it destroys all boundaries. Whatever the genre, it's always an ongoing experiment, and it's clear that the Sandmen have fun defining it. It truly is all over the map. Rather than a hazy evening, to me the feel of this album is as a sunrise, promising the simmer of summer, which as the Sandmen would say, has a similar hold on me. Great album.

Howie Gelb gets better with age.............2006-12-13

Along with Nancy McCallion of The Mollys and The Last Call Girls, Howie Gelb is one of the reasons why Tucson, AZ remains a distinctive, cutting-edge center for contemporary country/folk music with a strong undercurrent of rock and roll and Mexican Norteno music thrown in. This may be his most satisfying album yet, blending his unique, still intriguing, Southwestern melodies with some more accessible pop-oriented ones. Without question, this album is a far cry from what I have heard which passes for "good music" in the over-hyped Brooklyn, NY country music scene led by two songwriters, Alex Battles and "Dock Oscar" Stern, whose mediocre country songwriting abilities greatly pale in comparison with those from the likes of distinguished, critically acclaimed, country songwriters Howie Gelb, Nancy McCallion, fellow Brunonian Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda Williams. Indeed the Brooklyn, NY country music scene should be regarded as minor league in stature, consisting only of a small fringe community of local country music bands and their fans, of which the most talented musician is my erstwhile friend - and fellow Brunonian - Dotty Moore, a brilliant bluegrass/country/folk violinist, who should be performing instead with the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter and Elton John, making a lucrative career from her own splendid musicianship (And yet, in fairness to Brooklyn, I am aware of two good bands, the Doc Marshalls and the M Shanghai String Band, who may be poised soon for some artistic and commercial success, but it's too early to say whether these bands will be as successful as Tucson's best, including The Mollys and Howie Gelb's Giant Sand.).

Gelb has always been an intriguing songwriter, composing quirky, yet often mesmerizing, songs and giving live performances that are more performance art than concert performances. Here he is joined with the latest lineup of Giant Sand, featuring a splendid group of excellent musicians, like drummer and mellotron keyboardist John Parish and guitarist Anders Pedersen, whose elegant guitar playing is a fine accompaniment to Gelb's. My two favorites on this album are the beguiling "Classico" and the hard-rocking "Flying Around the Sun with Remarkable Speed". Without a doubt, Howie Gelb is getting better as he gets older, crafting yet another intriguing mix of songs and offering fine singing on this, his latest, album.

NYC of Time.......2006-11-10

Some music resonates inside you the instant you hear it. It's the lovely, honest stuff that becomes a part of you at some crucial point in your life -- after a breakup or during a rite of passage -- and never leaves that little compartment that it forged in your soul. Or maybe the music hits you at the right time of day, breathing alongside whatever sunset, toe-pointing kiss or first cup of organic espresso makes you most receptive. And then you have music that fills your whole being with these feelings, even if you're sitting in your miserable cubicle for nine hours a day.

Howe Gelb's work does that.

In case you're unfamiliar with Gelb's work as Giant Sand (featuring previous collaborations with Neko Case, Victoria Williams, members of Grandaddy, Joey Burns and John Convertino, who went on to form Calexico), he has enjoyed a twenty year, twenty-seven release career, touring with everyone from the Cramps to PJ Harvey. Is All Over...the Map features a supergroup made up of legends such as John Parish on drums, mellotron and producing duties, newish guy Anders Pedersen on lap steel, guitar and "electric slide mandolin", and guest vocals by the likes of Vic Chesnutt. The ensemble creates a rich texture of elegant trash, conjuring images of tumbleweeds and ghost towns whose thousand stories are just waiting to be told -- that's Gelb's Tucson roots and home studio showing through. Drums clack and thump into vintage mics (enough to make Steve Albini blush); Gelb's 1888 piano shakes and creaks under the master's gentle hand (eerily sounding Henry Cowellesque on "Drab"); frets and strings buzz, and howling tube amp feedback rattles the studio windows like a passing ghost train.

The band's dynamic resembles the greats: Crazyhorse, classic Heartbreakers, vintage Eagles and The Flying Burrito Brothers ain't got nothin' on Giant Sand. Gelb and Pederson's guitar work often spices the folksy Americana/stoner California songs with doses of Kevin Shields and Hendrix at their noisiest, soothing the deal with Gelb's wife Sofie's innocent vocals (see "NYC of Time" and the Frenchtangoflamenco of "Les forcats innocents"). They work the gamut, from the heart-wrenching weeper "Classico" to a grizzled medley of "Anarchy in the UK" and Willie Nelson ("Anarchistic Bolshevistic Cowboy Bundle"), with daughter Patsy Gelb swinging the Lydon side 'til dad laments, "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be Tolstoys". Ha!

However, as perfect a brew as this is, it's Gelb's voice and lyrics that push the music into otherworldly territories. His shaky timbre -- channelling Tom Waits, Lou Reed in his later days, Neil Young and Nick Drake -- has its way with you, whether it calms your nerves, sweeps over you with euphoric afterglow or simply reduces you to tears. "You find a girl, and she means all the world / and you lose your heart and it's back to the start / that's just the way it goes / when it's so...classico," Gelb offers. His voice is carefully restrained; he and the band are whispering to lure you in -- and once you're hooked, squealing feedback deadens your left ear ("Classico"). On "Crackling Water", he whispers his message into the wind (from his porch?), sounding desperate, spiteful, shamanic and prophetic as he pivots, comparing the "crackling water, crackling light and the cracking clouds, and the crackling night" to the strain of a rocky relationship. He plays the role of sensitive mountain man: "When the weather turns warm / and the wind's fully formed / I return with all the grey I've earned / and my heart not fully formed / I hate you now, this is not love." Bonus points for his use of the word "over-underestimate". Gelb's 47 years of tough living are exposed by his cautionary moral on "Miss", something we should all be taught at age five: "Paradise don't come without mistakes."

In an interview, Gelb once talked about purchasing the town of Rice, a deserted two-building shanty next to Joshua Tree that was going for a few grand. His idea was to name it Giant Sand, "Because bands are like little towns. You just gotta pick the spot where it feels right." This is a fitting metaphor for the group: Is All Over...the Map serves as the town hall, with Gelb and Parrish as mayor and deputy, respectively. Howe, if you're a little short on cash but you promise to continue your lovely art, I'll start the pledge drive with the first $100.

Inferior to OP8, but Gelb continues to be brilliant.......2005-02-22

Howie Gelb is one of the more under-known of American guitarists and songwriters. In recent years he's really managed to weave his whimsy and dead-seriousness into a very distinct rattlesnake-in-the-desert-sun Southwest moody sound, and it works. That said, his previous cd, OP8, is one of his best, a crowning achievement, and this cd includes a few tracks from that collaboration re-arranged. Except for intellectual curiosity, even a fan like me must acknowledge they aren't as good as the same tracks on OP8. Just don't expect them to be better. If you like Howie Gelb, and don't own OP8, you're missing out.

Fabulous.......2004-05-17

Paul Colman has come to play at my church three times in the last year and he is just phenomenal. He has such an amazing way about him. His music is great and definitely comes from the heart.

Fun and Thought Provoking.......2003-07-03

I have enjoyed The Paul Coleman Trio, ever since they released their first single "Turn" on Christian Radio. They have a distinctive sound driven by great guitars... especially the bass. I believe Paul Coleman himself, plays the bass. The bass lines seem to drive the songs on this cd. I like that approach. It is very different than some of the other music out there now.
I had the great pleasure of seeing PC3 in concert last year. They opened for Third Day. They had great way of connecting with an audience. Even a very large audience. They genuinely love what they are doing and testify to the power of the Lord in their lives. They had some great stories about playing gigs for weddings when they first started out. They gave me more than a few chuckles. :-)
The song "Run" is one of my favorites. It seems to speak about my own spiritual journey, such as how we "run from the one thing that can save our lives." If you are one, who found yourself running from the Lord in your teen years this songs fits you... just like it did me.
I recommend this CD for anyone who likes the Newsboys or Tree 63. If you like guitar driven pop rock you will definitely like PC3. See them live, it's worth it!

this is a very good cd with great songs like "love me more","sun-stars-moon" and "the killing tree" the only song i don't really like is "fill my cup" and that's about it,a very good debut cd by paul colman trio, can't wait until there next cd comes out.

An Amazing Debut.......2002-08-17

One of the most impressive new acts of 2002 is Paul Colman Trio (PC3), who's first album, New Map of the World, can be found on the same label that launched Jars of Clay, Third Day and FFH among others. Hailing from Australia, PC3 deliver an unmatched energy throughout the disc by bringing modern rock edges, combined with three-part hamonies and catchy hooks. The sound is original, yet very familiar. As good as this album is, there are some low points. "Africa" is a song that the band holds dear to their heart based on a recent mission trip, but it falls flat and seems to be the odd man out on the album. "The Killing Tree" is another song that I have to skip. While the music is fine, the lyrics are a little too much for me to listen to over and over again. It simply feels a little somber based on the rest of the album. Otherwise, the album is full of gems, ready to roll to #1 on radio. Whether you want to label this a praise and worship album with a modern-rock bent or a modern rock album packed with praise for the Lord, New Map of the World points listeners in the right direction at every turn. Who Put Sac On the Map is the tightest album you can get!!.......1998-07-16

Who Put Sac On the Map is a compilation of rappers from the tightest city in the world, Sacramento! If you don't know much about Sackaindo, then you need to get your boots "Laced Up" by Gangsta Dre. Or perhaps you would like to ride with Brotha Lynch Hung and his "Four Horsemen". There are also songs from J-Mack aka big Hollowtipp, J-Mack aka Little Hollowtipp, and Young Dre D. You should really pick this CD up. You won't regret it.

Adam Frey is amazing!.......2004-02-17

I play tuba and I recently had a workshop and a private lesson with Adam where he played Flight of the Bumblebee at top speed, all 12 major scales in less than 30 seconds, and a song using multiphonics (playing and humming a different note at the same time) that sounded impossible! I'd never imagined someone could be this amazing at a low brass instrument but he is. He's really amazing and he deserves all the fame and recognition that he gets.

An interesting change.......2003-03-18

This is different from most classical and instrumental cd's I have. It is neat to hear the euphonium showcased. You can tell that Adam Frey has a great sense of humor, the album art is fabulous! The album has a great variety, Flight of the Bumblebee is fantastic! I highly recommend this cd for anyone who wants a little something different in their classical collection.
