About the Artist
Jon Mutchler makes his home in Ferndale, WA and can be heard most weekends live at Resort Semiahmoo, in Blaine, WA. He is one of those rare pianists who can at any moment cut loose on a jazz standard, stir the emotions with his creative talents on a popular ballad, ease into a short piece by Chopin, Debussy, Brahms, or Beethoven, or on-the-spot create an original piece or improvisation on a theme or a couple chords.
Product Description
Playing solo (without benefit of band or orchestra) is the ultimate challenge for the instrumentalist. There's no place to hide and no one else to cover up for any weaknesses. Fortunately for all of us, Jon Mutchler is well up to the task. This is Jon's first CD release (1998). He takes ten classics of the jazz and popular repertoire and exposes his chops, maturity, and individuality here. Misty, Over the Rainbow, and the title cut, Stardust establish Jon's jazz roots while his performances of newer favorites like Think of Me and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face showcase his savvy for popular music. (Careful listeners will also recognize Mr. Mutchler's extensive classical proficiency as he demonstrates his mastery over the instrument.)
