5 out of 5 stars So Much Respect.......2006-02-05

As with her first two albums, I truly believe this album is so
very unique and divinely enlightened.....With utterly precious
songs such as 'The Prayer,' 'Inner Harmony,' 'Wisdom Of The
Heart,' and 'Angel Of Love' --- it seems to show even more of
Cecilia's real soul, here upon Earth.....Her voice is a heart-
breaking and graciously healing blend of the most sincere com-
passion in a human being, and a heavenly being.....The beauty
is enhanced by background choirs once again, in a few songs.....
One person's review of thankful praise could never give her
enough justice.....There are many gifted singers in the world,
but it is so rare when one can behold the very essence of
what they sing, as Cecilia does.....Her voice is like the
blessing of pure crystal tears from the very heart of Heaven ---
and yet whenever someone (like me) feels moved to try and
express how Cecilia affects them, it always goes back to the
simple words: she is the most angelic voice ever sent to Earth!

5 out of 5 stars Cherubim Sing!.......2005-11-03

I love her voice. I would like to get the lyrics to 'PRAYER', any suggestions? I haven't had much luck.

3 out of 5 stars waiting for another "Voice of the Feminine Spirit".......2003-01-15

Years ago Wayne Dyer said that Cecelia sang "Amazing Grace" like no other singer.....he was right, it was beautiful. I loved all the songs on there also. In fact, that recording got me on the track of Michael Hoppe and Tim Wheater........what a wonderful journey. "The Lover" by them takes you somewhere else, which is what "Voice of the Feminine Spirit" did. I have Cecilia's Violet 19 which I liked less then "Voice" and now this "Inner Harmony". I realize she is doing her own thing with this but I was disappointed with it. "Voice" is much more ethereal and I guess that is what I want from her. She has the voice that takes you somewhere else but I did not find it with this recording. In fact, to me she sounded like a combination of other singers and I was disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Voice of an Angel.......2002-11-03

Cecilia has a beautiful and heart touching voice. Her voice is the purest voice I ever heard. I got her album Voice of the Feminine Spirit with the most touching rendition of Amazing Grace, so I had to get Inner Harmony, and was deeply moved by Cecilia's divine voice.

1 out of 5 stars she is not a bad singer, but the album is second rate.......2002-01-25

I had to give it at least one star, because she does have a beautiful voice. The lyrics and music for this album are really lacking though. I found this album to be a let down after hearing her previous work.

4 out of 5 stars The Best Covenant Album.......2007-07-15

5 out of 5 stars Northern Lights - Covenant album - best money spent ever.......2007-05-13

I loved this album. The best song in my opininon on the album is Bullet - great lyrics - followed by Call the Ships to Port. Great money, well worth waiting for it to arrive via import.

If you love this type of album then I'd also suggest VNV Nation and Apotygma Berzerk - particularly Kathy's Song (VNV Nation remix).

3 out of 5 stars Outstanding words, sleepy music.......2007-01-03

Lyrically, it's a five star peace, but the pacing is a little bit slow for someone used the adrenaline-rush techno pace of Front 242 or Prodigy.

5 out of 5 stars The best Covenant album to date for me .......2006-12-02

I listened to 'Northern Light' and was instantly impressed. 4 of the best Covenant songs feature on this album and they are 'Call The Ships to Port', 'Bullet', 'We Stand Alone' and 'We Want Revolution'. Not only do these songs have great lyrics and are sung greatly but they have a great dance to beat, techno and trance easy. The first song 'Monochrome' begins slow and slowly through the song, the beat builds in intensity and tone reaching a chorus. Released in 2002, 'Northern Light' gained Covenant more fanbase around the globe.

Two other promising songs that were experimental were 'Invisible&Silent' and 'Rising Sun'. Basically there is no bad song on this album. I have read previous reviewers and cannot understand some of the bad reviews levelled on this album. This was the first album, the talented trio signed with and many fans saw this has a traitorous move against the deep seated independent roots. Alas, Covenant have remained true to their beginnings and have only modernised their unique music sound that is changing with the times.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this album and this CD has become a popular listening CD for me and my friends. Well worth the purchase for any devout Covenant fan to add to his or her collection.

5 out of 5 stars the best.......2006-05-04

This is the best album of Covenant, even people might say it was a commercial attempt because they were on a major label , this album is a classic , no doubt

Product Description

This album is best described as symphonic pop in the tradition of Brian Wilson, Phil Spector and others. Vocals may recall the California Sound of the 60's and the scope of the backing or instrumental tracks that of Spector. These musical currents combine with new ideas of the album's producer and present a unique modern synthesis which asserts the validity of serious pop expression as legitimate and worthy. In much the same way the Beach Boys represented the image of West Coast life so Northern Light pursues the pristine and varied face of the Northland- from cozy winter romance to checking out teen ballrooms located on a lake. The idea is to give the listener a journey to a new and ezciting place that is sincere and indigenous to the artist. We seek to soar: 5-4-3-2-1. Do we have lift-off?

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Music.......2007-01-10

49th Parallel is a lovely album of gorgeous tunes. If you have an ear for the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson's music, you will find something to love here.

Musician, singer and arranger David Sandler co-produced with Brian the classic 'Spring' album in 1970. The most sought after track from this pairing is the amazing Sweet Mountain...

5 out of 5 stars Beauty of the Heartland.......2005-04-01

Northern Light has done it again, 12 tracks that will put anyone in a great mood. The harmonies and themes are remindful of Brian Wilson's work during his Beach Boys Today period. The beat is perfect for driving down a curving highway or skiing a giant slalom effortlessly. The songs are fast but not out of control.

I particularly liked Eye of the Beholder: it's been stuck in my head for a week and it just plain makes me feel that the world is full of youthful exuberance.

The song "Minnesota" gives me goosebumps. There's something about the heartland that is very comforting and Northern Light captures the feeling of returning home after escaping to a California that turns out not to have been the right one to dream about.

Songwriters have always been drawn to the ocean or big city streets for their themes. It's about time that someone fully developed a musical picture of the land of lakes. This song, as do other tracks from this album, glorifies the natural elements that make up the heartland of America. It's about time.

Appropriately the song American Fantasy references the great 1980 gold medal hockey miracle in this the 25th anniversary of that event. That song makes winter look pretty good.

The title song, 49th Parallel, adds to the total vision of this album: the beauty of the northland and the desirability of the life that goes along with it.

All in all this 49th Parallel album makes me want to dance; it makes me want to drive; it makes me want to sing in the shower; it makes me want to run through a pine forest and dive into a shimmering lake.

how can you resist the cover art of geese and fish in boxes?

rawsthorne's warm, complex music is a joy! after getting hooked on his chamber music (also a naxos issue), this was a good logical progression.

it's gentle and romantic in places, but sometimes discordant and angry- but always in complete control. also i had no idea the recorder could be such an expressive instrument- very interesting. this CD is an excellent example of mid 20th century classical music.

spend the $ and get all three naxos issues of rawsthorne's music. the playing is intelligent and sympathetic, the liner notes very helpful, and the naxos engineers have done a good job of capturing little details.

    Album Description

Black, bold, and beautiful, the joyous reissuing of Jackie Mittoo's extra-rare Canadian debut Wishbone is the fourth and perhaps most anticipated release in Light In The Attic's ongoing Jamaica to Toronto series.

Over the years many have paid tribute to the dynamic range and skill of the late, great Jackie Mittoo. From the emergence of ska right through to rocksteady and the boss sounds of reggae, he was front and center -- a pivotal figure and a sharp move-maker. Even after relocating to Canada, a land not necessarily known for its funk factor, this Studio One veteran worked tirelessly to share his gift and spread the music of Jamaica to a wider audience.

In 1971, Mittoo gave a deep, warm hello kiss to his adopted nation. In 2006, we are proud to re-release this ambitious sure shot from the original two-track masters. Following the worldwide critical and commercial success of this year's Jamaica to Toronto: Soul Funk & Reggae 1967-1974 (LITA 019), the heavenly roots/dub majesty of Noel Ellis (LITA 020), and 2004's Wayne McGhie & The Sounds Of Joy (LITA 008). Art direction is once again taken care of by the talented Vincent Cook (2STEP-Tokyo) and contains thoughtful design and immaculate presentation to match the soulful sounds within. Both CD and LP versions of Wishbone are also accompanied by an extensive essay from Jamaica-Toronto series producer, DJ, and Canadian music historian Kevin Howes (AKA Sipreano), making this release a visual and aural snapshot of an era long forgotten.

Wishbone's 12 songs reach far beyond the island rhythms of reggae and into the realms of stone cold soul, funk, gospel and R&B -- an indication of the eclectic sounds that ruled the action-packed live music scene of Toronto in the day. Ranging from the entrancing Jamaica-meets-Santana vibe of "Grand Funk" to the undeniable percussive bounce of "Groovy Spirit," while "Soul Bird" sounds like an upbeat Jimmy Smith grinder, as the keyboard king takes us on an orchestral baroque/mod journey with the organ/harpsichord fuelled "Steeple In The Snow." Sweeping, ebullient Gospel-tinged Reggae comes courtesy of the vocal-strings-and tings "Love Of Life," and the cool rocksteady beat of the maestro's "Mother Funk."

As one of the first Jamaican-Canadian albums to hit the 70s marketplace, Wishbone was a pioneering move from a recent immigrant. Criminally undocumented and kept a sweet soul secret by record collectors until now, this is a primetime slice of Mittoo magic, available to all. Meet Jackie and his reggae beat!

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars JACKIE MIT-WHO?.......2006-12-13

WISHBONE: Wow! This is Jackie Mittoo? The same Jackie Mittoo that rocked Studio One, Kingston, Jamaica and the rest of the world with classic cuts like HENRY THE GREAT, DRUM SONG, HOT MILK, RAM JAM and just about a million more? The Keyboard King? The Champion Of The Arena?

Yes, apparently this is THE Jackie Mittoo, OUR Jackie Mittoo - but this 1971 session, recorded in Toronto, Canada, is so far out of sync with what he was doing before or after, that you'll probably do a double or even triple take. I mean, surely you weren't actually expecting pop-lite arrangements ever so tastefully underscored by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra? Probably not, and as such, it's hard to know what to say about WISHBONE. It's nicely packaged by American label Light In The Attic, with great sleeve notes and photos of Jackie in action, but it sounds like it was made exclusively for easy-listening AM radio airplay, and it's so outrageously over-polished that it almost slides right back out of the CD player before you can push play. So, at first, I was somewhat dismayed, but the more I listened, the more I found myself actually enjoying this very fluffy, very sugary confection. Okay, it's not in the same division as what you might call Jackie's "real" stuff, his trailblazing ska scorchers, or the bare knuckled reggae ghetto funk that he recorded with Bunny Lee, but nonetheless, it's Jackie Mittoo, and it's for real!

Thus, we're treated to Jackie commandeering The Beatles' CARRY THAT WEIGHT for the swinging title tune, turning out a great sixties-era film score on GRAND FUNK, and - check this out - even doing a Saturday matinee-style rendition of his classic THE SNIPER (GROOVY SPIRIT), which just left me shaking my head and laughing. Somehow, some way, WISHBONE actually works, perhaps because it's being released around the Christmas holiday, and the spirit of the season is merry and bright. Be warned though, this probably isn't what you're hoping for from a long lost Jackie Mittoo record, but I say build a big one, kick back and give it a try!

I have no idea where to even begin to rate this recording - so I'm just giving five stars because, yes, it's JACKIE MITTOO!

5 out of 5 stars Nice, nice - a lost classic from keyboard heaven.......2006-11-17

This is a very sweet re-release of the 1971 Jackie Mittoo album WISHBONE. Nice packaging and superb re-mastering job. A class job. Musically, it is an eclectic mix that will take you on a world tour of styles. It is all based on the reggae beat but be prepared for a unique Toronto take that uses MOR or "easy listening" as a basic genre for Jackie to wild style it on the organ and piano.

This music is deeply ARRANGED. The arrangements of keyboard, horn, string and rhythm section kind of operate independantly, layered and overlapping and swinging together at opportune times. It is some serious production values going on here, an adventure in sound. George Martin would be impressed. I can only imagine Jackie landed in a different city/culture/continent and just jumped in fingers first, letting his creativity loose in Canada. A few of the songs have singing and you may take time to get into them (how many different vocalists are on this?), while stuff like the opening track with its dancing organ lines, the catchy Soul Bird, and the incredibly awesome title track, which lifts the refrain from The Beatles' Carry That Weight, are immediate winners.

This music is kind of unprecedented, definitely within the reggae world but you can tell somebody white was part of this too. It's a happy union of two musical worlds, and sometimes its just about Jackie cooking away on the organ, which he does very well.

this is defintely one of the dopest sac albums to date. Bet when blackmarket went bankrupt they wish they kept dre, young jayda and the rest of the B side of the company. For all you that don't know who dre iz where you been? This is unkomparible to Brotha lynch so don't try to put them on the same page. Dre comes way more real than Lynch ever could.the bottom line is If you want to see rap at its finest grab this cd it will show the blood, sweat, and tears some artists are willing to put into their music.Gangsta dre seems to be one of the realest rappers out, he came w/ gangbangin poetry 1 and 2, inner city poet, and here comes the night not to mention the work he has accomplished with hollow tip and mic-c. He still puts it down with young jayda and nonfiktion. Although his best work is done all by his lonely the great depression will show you that. Stay up for all the real fools in this game tryin to get their piece of the pie. SUPPORT THE REAL!!!! BUY this don't bootleg it.

5 out of 5 stars Slept on Artists.......2001-07-19

Gangsta Dre is one of the best rappers on the west coast. He is slept on by a lot of people and no one really knows him. He has a different style of rap which I like. Its not about cars, bigs houses, and havin money. In stead he raps about livin in the projects and smokin his newport. I can listen to this Cd from start to finish. Some of his best songs on this Cd are "Inner City Poey", "Sittin By Da Edge of Da Curb"," Da Early Bird Gets Da Worm", and "Let it rain". By this Cd and support this guy.
