Only half the songs of the original set!!.......2007-01-17

Although I love the CDs, I was disappointed that there were only about half of the songs I thought there would be. I bought the original double cassette set back in the early 90's and when I found the CDs with the same name and cover, I thought I was getting the same thing only on CD. But the Cassettes had twice as many songs, including Let it Snow,Have Yourself a merry Little Christmas,The First Noel, Jingle Bells by Jim Reeves, The Christmas song by the Carpenters and so many others!!

It reminded me of Christmas as a child. I played this all throughout the holidays.

A Good Basic Collection.......2006-02-11

This is a good, basic collection of Christmas Music. As a general rule, Time-Life has selected what is probably the definative artist/arangement of each song.

My only complaints are that there are only 24 songs on two disks and one or two of them are not ones that I would have picked (not my style).

Overall, it's a good set that I would recommend to anyone who wants to start a collection.

Poor Quality.......2005-12-05

The only good thing about this collection is the inclusion of so many Christmas standards. I was very disappointed in the quality of the recordings, they obviously need digital inhancement.

I wasn't into christmas that much because of all the mad rush at christmas, but since I bought this c.d. everything changed. I love christmas now and I am still playing that c.d. and it is already January. this is a great C.D. It is my favorite. I wish I would have owned it years ago. I just bought it this year.

Christmas Is...A Percy Faith Classic!.......2005-12-27

It's been about 40 years since this Christmas album by Percy Faith was released. To this day it's a pleasure to listen to with its rich instrumental selections and voices. The title tune says it all! You will enjoy this for many Christmases to come!

Good Songs But They Should Have Digitally Remastered Them! The Sound Is Just A Little Off!.......2005-12-21

I too had the cassette tape of this Percy Faith Christmas album and updated to this CD and I love all of the songs and my favorite is We Need a Little Christmas. I do have one complaint and that is that the sound doesn't seem to have been remastered and seems kind of low. It's as though they didn't digitally remaster the original mono recordings.

Nostalgic listening for the holidays.......2007-01-02

Having heard this playing at a restaurant over the Christmas holidays, I bought it immediately. It makes for lovely background, easy listening music arousing nostalgic memories of the Christmas holidays. On a technical note, David Osborne's piano playing is impeccable, very crisp and clear. This CD is a keeper for every Christmas holiday to come. It makes a nice addition to my CD holiday listening music collection of Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby.

Love this CD.......2006-11-13

I looked for this CD at all the stores and could not find it. This year the date is November 10th, and I ordered two, one for myself and one as a gift. I can't wait to hear the whole thing. I've enjoyed the sample songs on Amazon's website.

high-strung christmas.......2005-12-23

The biggest disappointment I've ever experienced in a holiday music CD. However, the good news first, such as nice to hear Christmas Time Is Here (from Charlie Brown) in a format other than cartoon, though this version does get a little bluesy rather than contemplative. As well, the Minnelli & Cumming version of Baby It's Cold Outside is wonderful fun (even though it's probably not a great song for Liza's Ss). Patrick Wilson is wonderful on the traditional (and fast-paced) We Need A Little Christmas. Other than maybe going WHOO! there's no surprise there. Victor Garber, normally wonderful and someone I look forward to, puts such a downer on his variation of I'll Be Home For Christmas I had to stop listening to it altogether. The mix of traditional holiday with "seasonal" fare, like New York State of Mind is well-conceived, it's just the individual interpretations may not be to everyone's taste, certainly not mine, as I found the majority of songs to be overwrought, like a bunch of over-eager kids in audition mode. Sam Harris on Merry Christmas Darling had me gritting my teeth.

My Favorite Christmas CD.......2005-12-04

This is by far my favorite Christmas CD. The singing and arrangements are lovely, and the mix of songs is wonderful. Standouts (on an album of standouts) include Alan Cumming and Liza Minnelli having fun with "Baby It's Cold Outside," a version of "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" that is a haunting prayer for our times, and a beautiful and sad version of "I'll be Home for Christmas."

If you're looking for a Christmas album to entertain children, this probably isn't it. No Frosty or Rudolph here, and the arrangements have an adult contemporary feel. But if you are looking for something to help you unwind after the kids have gone to bed, this CD is like a warm fire on a winter's night.

the best holiday cd that i have ever heard.......2005-05-21

this cd is unlike any others that i have. it has all of my favorite broadway artists (daphne rubin-vega, patrick wilson, billy porter, lillias white) and so many tony award winning stars as well like liza, alan cumming and gary beach. they are all singing their favorite holiday songs. it was also great to learn that all of the artists donated their time to record this cd as benefits for bc/efa.

A wonderful holiday musical trip........2006-02-25

Although a fan of Greg Karukas, this holiday journey stands out as one of his best efforts. It has beautiful music and vocals with several unique holiday songs that simply round out the Christmas holiday feeling. This is a great addition to your musical collection, not just holiday collection.

My Favorite Christmas Recording.......2005-12-26

I first heard this CD during the 1995 Christmas season. I fell in love with it instantly--and it has remained the favorite in our home ever since--this being our eleventh year enjoying Home For The Holidays.

Besides Gregg's unparalleled piano mastery (he doesn't "play" the piano--it is an extension of his heart!), Shelby Flint offers flawless vocals. John Leftwich and Joel Taylor provide stellar performances on bass and drums.

My wife and I have enjoyed several of Gregg's Christmas concerts in the San Fernando Valley over the years. Our 2005 experience was special beyond compare. We arrived for the late (10:30 pm) show on a weeknight at the La Ve Lee jazz club. When the first show audience cleared out (around 11:00 pm), my wife and two daughters and I were the only patrons left. Not to worry, Gregg, John, Joel and new vocalist Christine Day put on a whole show for the four of us! They played and sang as though the place was packed to the rafters--just for us. You'll never get to experience that--but listen to this CD in front of the fireplace and it will be the next best thing!

Fresh Christmas Cheer!.......2005-01-12

What A great holiday disc! Fresh and listenable versions of holiday classics. Gregg Karukas definately has the Midas touch. I don't think the guy can produce anything but a great piece of work. "Christmas Song" and "White Christmas" are outstanding versions of the classics, but then again, so is everything on the disc. You can't go wrong with this one!

Simply wonderful with a continental, sophisticated and European flavor! Have images of entering the elegant lobby of some posh European hotel - like the Ritz on the Champs Elysee. The combination of piano, cello and violin are inspirational, meditative, and joyously reflective; and, resonate sounds from holidays past that need to be heard in the new millinneum!

The Very Best.......2000-01-05

This is a wonderful CD. If you love chamber music, piano trios or just good Christmas music this one is highly recommended. I've had it for over a year now and have even secretly listened to it in the middle of the summer, just for the wonderful arrangements. So inventive. Love the sound they make.

This is an exquisite combination of classical and popular Christmas standards. The texture of the arrangements and quality of the recording make this album sound like you have three friends playing in your Music Room while you're in the kitchen baking. Highly recommended for children, for appreciating good sounds, and for adults, for a simple, basic lovely set of songs.

Love All Their Recordings.......2004-12-26

This Maine folk group wouldn't immediately come to mind for holiday music, but their collection, Home for the Holidays, is a treat. Their voices blend beautifully on some unexpected tunes, like Lord of the Dance or Lo How a Rose E're Blooming.
I highly recommend it.

A holiday album for everyone.......2000-06-11

Schooner Fare has brought us a holiday album for people of every religion. It is an album that speaks of families coming together, winter, and the spirit that touches each of us as we light our Menorah or Christmas tree. Songs like "First Snow" express a peaceful communion with nature. There is a medley of traditional Christmas carols and then a medley of carols from "the old world" including songs in Spanish, French, German, and Hebrew. The guitar on "A'Soalin'/Esa Enai will touch your soul. And, of course, I must note the amazing harmonies that Tom, Steve, and Chuck create on each of their albums. It isn't truly winter (even here in Maine) until I have listened to Home for the Holidays. It's the only holiday album in my catalog and I can't be without it. Sometimes I even play it in the summer!

HOme for the Holidays.......2007-01-18

I bought this album on a whim. Just something a little different to add to my Christmas music collection. The music is very tracey (not house music) and you sometimes have to really listen to hear the traditional carol or Christmas song underneath...but it is an enjoyable listen. I heard this album while doing my Christmas shopping and immediately was taken aback by the fresh beats put on the old seasonal classics and the overall musical innovation. I leave this in my car stereo all year long! A great introduction to the talents of the OM artists.

In a time when chillout is threatening to be the new Muzak, it is always nice to see something that strives to be something more than flop-around-the-housemusic. Om, as its name indicates, has always strove to be an interconnection of downtempo with a spiritual/intellectual flair, and this couldn't have been a better expo for their platform. Most of these songs sound strangely appropriate for any time, by this I mean they do not sound like they will be dated when played, say, 10 years or longer from now; which I predict will happen. Listening to the album in sequence, I dare you to not freeze and be mesmerized when the vocals for "Sing Sing Sing" start up. And I'm not even gonna tell you about "Charlie Brown"... I wanna keep that a surprise so you can laugh through the traffic like I did. So buy, the least I can say is that for eleven dollars its the best and most spiritually sincere album this holiday. If you prefer "peace on earth" to "toys n trees" this will move you from the hips down and the neck up.
