Tom's work impressed Robert Rich, who recorded and mastered the then-untitled collection of deep tuba atmospheres, and who found the material unique, special, and appropriate to what Hypnos is doing. We have no doubt that once the ambient, space & atmospheric music audience gets over the issue of "tuba?!" they will quickly see what we recognize in the recording -- a deep, restrained sonorous richness, and a very nice divergence from the usual "synths and samplers" sonic palette common to our genre. I first heard Tom Heasley's work on an internet radio station and went to his website to find out more. He has released 3 discs to date which are all excellent. This music is extremely eloquent. It's brooding without being oppressive, mysterious without being a stranger and comforting without being saccharine. (His third, Desert Tryptich, is didgeridu based and thus has a different atmosphere.) "Where Earth Meets The Sky" should be bought straight away and added to your rotation of drifting exotica. He manages to keep his personality minimal in the mix, which is a feat that many space/ambient creators have yet to master. It's pure, untainted and unrestrained; an undulating landscape of clear sound. Highly recommended.

What you will find with this release is long, deep, purely sonic explorations using the Tuba exclusively as the medium. Audio texture pioneer Robert Rich lends a hand as the producer.

So.. first time i take some information about Tom Heasley was after seing is name in emusic site, and would like to know.. who's that guy ?? after having found some information about who he was, and which instrument he plays... i was really suspicious.. tuba ?? ambient ? i'm listening ambient music for so many years.. and.. most of the time.. synthesizers doing that job well. but tuba ??? But i want to know.. so i download the album.. and. The surprise was here... i've can never imagine that could be done with this instrument.. the music was so.. great !! I really enjoy it at the first notes.. after 3 days.. i know that i would listen to all the works that Tom Heasley have made.. so i download the other album on emusic. And the pleasure of listening that fabulous music his still there. I really think that he had his place as one of the greatest composers of ambient music, as Steve Roach.. The sound is so deep, so powerful.. just loving that.. and hope you'll enjoy too.

Who would have ever thought that the humble tuba had such potential! I had heard samples of this album on a radio show on which Tom Heasley was interviewed and was enthralled by both him and his music. This sound is thoroughly electronic and perhaps somewhat understated (which is fine by me - but it may appeal less to others.)
