Great...soothing.......2007-03-06

This release from Dancing Fantasy and meets the expectations that loyal fans of this artist have come to known. Guiding Lights is one of those smooth jazz/new age pieces that is great to watch a sunset while listening. Into The Deep Blue is a very mellow piece where you can dream while listening. Unfortunately, this is the last known release by Curtis McLaw and Chris W. Williams.

It is unusual to listen to music from an album again and again, and every time marvel at the quality of every note. This is a superb "vision" that should be experienced by all.

Every time I listen to "Dreams of Sedona" I visit segments of my first nature. Living in a highly tense world, it is a gift of peace that this talented musician has managed to extrude from synthesizers. His music transports one rapidly to a blissfull state.

A Magical and Wonderful CD.......2000-03-23

When I listened to this CD for the first time, I was transported to a spacious and beautiful interior landscape. Alexander is a master of the synthesizer, and other instruments. This music takes the listener on a series of inner journeys through moods of contemplation, serenity, awe and awakening. Some of the cuts are hauntingly lovely and emotionally charged. Others evoke the mystic rapture of unimaginable cosmic spaces. Alexander clearly knows the inner worlds, and he also knows how to "show" them to his listeners. I meditated with this music, and found it to be the most powerful audio aid I have discovered. But it is also great for social gatherings. The atmosphere it creates is totally positive, and is NOT like so much other (boring) New Age music. This is what that genre OUGHT to be like!

SUPERBE !!! mais un peu lourd à manipuler...
De très belles photos, autant de coupes, de plans et d'élévations que l'on puisse désirer... seul le format, un peu grand à mon goÃ¹t, pourrait être amélioré. Peut être les diviser en plusieurs formats non moins grand mais plus fin et donc moins lourd et plus maléable...
l'architecture de nos jours
Ce livre est super. Il nous montre l'architecture des grands bâtiments de nos jours. Sur chaque page, des photos de très grandes qualités ainsi que des textes documentaires nous permettent de voir des bâtiments d'une architecture exceptionnelle.

e">A beautiful and haunting Fripp Soundscape.......2004-12-28

Even though I am a fan, some of Robert Fripp's solo ambient recordings can be a bit harsh on the ears at times. This is not one of them. The sounds blend smoothly and weave across each other throughout, creating a sad beauty that stands the test of repeated playing. There is an almost orchestral sound at times, but the structures and forms here are more flowing and more beautiful than most classical music.

Robert Fripp is an extraordinary guitarist (and an extraordinary man) who has recorded and performed a very wide range of music over the years. Although this is possibly the best and most accessible of his Frippertronic and Soundscape works, I would recommend "Let The Power Fall" (original release 1981) and "The Gates Of Paradise" (somewhat more challenging listening from 1997) if you are inspired by this.

A big thank you for your music and intelligence Mister Fripp, you are an inspiration on many levels!

It's hard to convey to someone what a piece of music means to you, whether you are the writer, performer or audient. Something other always escapes. It is why we turn to music when confronting the ineffable.
I have turned to this disc often. Composed by Fripp in dedication to the passing of his mother, it is a deeply spiritual and profoundly emotional piece. When my wife's parents passed, this CD was a source of great comfort to her. As I have sought to pick up the tral where my own spirituality died off, I seem to sense its whereabouts in my soul as I listen to this.
The music herein will stay with you forever. Of all the brilliant pieces of music for which Robert Fripp has been responsible, this is the one for which we owe him deep and soulful gratitude. It is absolutely a blessing of tears...

Truly poignant !!!.......2003-12-06

The soundscapes on this album are all improvisations, but they do not sound dissonant at all. The music is flowing and moving, and although it is played exclusively on guitar, it sounds as a cross between keyboards and strings. Far from Frippertronics or other soundscapes, such as on Radiophonics, ABoT is a masterpiece that should appeal to people looking for beautiful and relaxing music.

Beyond words - beyond thought.......2003-06-04

Soundscapes. As you can imagine from the name, Robert Fripp's experiments in noise are more sound than music. Describing them is never an easy task - I can throw out phrases like "hazy clouds" and "ethereal waves" and "ambient noise" all day and not even come close to really describing what these works sound like. This is an impressive achievement from a technical standpoint alone; looping and layering levels of music on top of each other can get complex enough as it is, but these 'Scapes don't just rely on one sound-delayed loop - there are *four* separate playbacks being worked on at once, running at different intervals and for different lengths. And as with the other albums in this series, Blessing of Tears is a collection of pieces that were all spontaneously created live. It's an exercise in concentration and improvisation that few mortals are even capable of. Alternately, offers Robert, it's "the best way I know of to make a lot of noise with one guitar."

Blessing of Tears is not just noise, however, not the chaotic guitar fury of his work in King Crimson or even the Soundscaping white noise of the other two discs in the 1995 trilogy. This is the album where he got it all down perfectly. This is the one I could play every night for the rest of my life and never get tired of. Even though there's no conventional harmony (or rather, what harmony there is never stops shifting and changing), it never even approaches harshness or unlistenability. The guitar parts - they don't even sound like a guitar, more like several keyboards or a batch of filtered voices - ebb and flow in peaceful waves over and around each other in a mishmosh that would probably sound like complete chaos if they consisted of actual notes.. but since this consists of vague hazy tones overlapping each other, the result is something completely elusive, like a dream that vanishes as soon as you try to remember it. It's something impossible to really follow and yet also difficult to ignore, as you would with plain ambient music.

The theme seems to be centered around grief and sadness (as the title implies - after all, it was created as an elegy for Robert's mother), but I'd hate to limit this album to that one mood. It does make for excellent listening for a sad mood or a reflective time of loss, but to me it's suited just as well to peaceful nights and times of quiet contentment. No matter - ABoT is something soothing to the ears and stunningly beautiful, whatever the mood. It's indefinable, elusive.. and absolutely perfect.

hour drive but to just have those moments recaptured.
The song "Because" seemed to propel my car forward on its journey and that song became my official road trip song listening to it more than a handful of times in a row.
The third time I listend to "Passive Agressive" it was sunny and incredible weather and went with a friend for a drive through the hills of Wimberly Texas. With the windows down and the breeze blowing in, Nicola's voice seemed to make everything even brighter...the landscape passing by seemed more rich, more peaceful at times and more exciting at times like during "I Forgive Me" which made you want to put your arm out of the car like when you were little and catch the wind in your hand. The final track came on and as we were coasting through the hills...to our left was a train moving along the side of us and with the help of Nicola's music it seemed like a scene from a sweeping and epic film...just breathtaking and simply beautiful...
like Nicola, her music and this CD.
If you have it, give it a re-listen and see how the music can fit any situation and in turn make it more memorable and then spread the word to everyone you know.
If you dont have it purchase it today...

Am i missing something here?.......2006-01-24

I must admit i bought the album because of the cover. I still love the cover. It made the album look really good. Then i saw that this album has a title that is without a doubt, one of the best album titles ever. So maybe i was expecting more, or something different, i don't know, but i didn't like the album itself. I listened to it over and over, really hoping i'd like it because i wanted to so bad. But, it did nothing for me. Time and again, i was agitated, and was skipping songs til the album ended. I usually love ambient-like music. Her voice is beatiful, i'll say that. But i just couldn't consider it a great piece of work. I'm sorry.

I was first introduced to Nicola Hitchcock's amazing voice when a friend let me listen to her copy of Solace, the U.S. album she did when she was still with Mandalay. After hearing that she released a solo album, I immediately rushed to my closest Barnes and Noble (the only retailer that carries the CD) and bought it. I recommend you do the same. Make sure you get the one with the bonus track of "I Forgive Me (Acoustic)", it's amazing and I like it better than the original version. The CD is all-around great; it has a different sound than the stuff she did with Saul Freeman, which is still amazing work. Some of the tracks remind me of Emiliana Torrini's "Fisherman's Woman" album, but that isn't a bad thing. If you love Mandalay, you're going to love Nicola Hitchcock's "Passive Aggressive".

Mushroom - 'Compared to What' (Innerspace Records).......2006-11-02

Liked their 'Glazed Popems' 2-CD effort better(see my review). 'Compared To What' is mostly instrumental. Final two tracks are the absolute best pieces this Avant Garde/progressive title has to offer, the 23-minute trippy "Americans Own The Moon" and the 14-minute jazzy "Connecting The Molecules With The Light". Maybe not a classic, but worth checking out. Also sort of liked the somewhat amusing "Let's Have Sex" and "Foxy Music". Should appeal to fans of Daevid Allen, Monks Of Doom, Oresund Space Collective and possibly Ozric Tentacles.

Compared To Krautrock, Soul Jazz, and Post Rock.......2001-05-11

On paper it seems strange for the psychedelic jazz band MUSHROOM to hook up with punk blues singer Gary Floyd of Sister Double Happiness. But these guys do a super groove version of the Les McCann/Eddie Harris hit Compared To What. Some hot trumpet playing c/o of Jon Birdsong who has spent the past 3 years playing with Beck. And Michael Bluestein does some wicked piano playing and analog synth - that gives the song sort of a space rock overtone. The rest of the CD is all instrumental that is in 1970's Krautrock meets soul jazz vibe and includes a REMIX by Krautrock legends FAUST and one by Tortoise/Gastr del Sol man Bundy K Brown. The Bundy K Brown mix sounds like a mix of electronica and early Pink Floyd. very trippy and weird and is about 20 mins long ! overall a great CD for jamming, tripping and dancing.

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day (we affectionately call him "Nature Boy") and he loved it. He had wanted a CD of JUST CRICKETS for a long time and didn't know if he'd ever be able to find one. Well, this is it! Also, the seller got this out to me in record time, so we got it in time for Father's Day, even though I never expected to.

Nothing but crickets!.......2006-06-03

This is exactly what I was looking for. It's crickets -real crickets- and nothing but crickets. I was a little hesitant about this disc because I couldn't hear a sample of it, but it was definitely worth taking the chance. Despite the title Cape Cod Soundscapes, it could be anywhere -personally I'm reminded of summer at my parents' house in the California foothills and that's where it takes me even though I'm square in the middle of the city. I love this CD!
