Not as good as the film..........2007-05-06
I remembered the music in the movie as being a little better than it actually is. I was a little disappointed in the CD.
disappointing.......2007-03-26
It just wasn't what I thought it would be and I personally didn't like it. But it is good music.
it's all about the Malagueña.......2004-12-01
i loved the movie and the music there is good. i really like the Malagueña so i learned how to play it on guitar. the song is great i enjoyed the movie as much as i enjoyed the sound track
Start to Finish, a Real Mexi-CAN of a Soundtrack.......2004-11-30
Alright, so the main reason I got the soundtrack was Pistolero by Juno Reactor,a real driving, pumped-up techno song. I started to get into the rest of the music on the soundtrack, and I find it an essential cd I carry along with me. The great thing about this soundtrack is you can listen in on Mexican traditional music and a glimpse of the culture, and still have some real badass-sounding guitar! Whatever you may think of the film, you can imagine the actors playing their parts in your head, since they play and sing in the soundtrack (as the first one). There is an aura in the music I can't put my finger on; there's a history, an old feel to it, but it lingers with new musical ideas. Kinda like the movie, in terms of making it. I agree fullheartedly with previous reviews: where the movie fails, the music fills in the gaps and expands on Mexican music, making the entire movie/soundtrack experience very deep and epic. I dunno, maybe I'm rambling, but I emphasize that this soundtrack adds culture and kickass to your collection, as it did mine.
Better than the movie!.......2004-11-21
When I first saw this film I was shocked at its total stupidity. I was a big fan of the first Desperado and this sequel completely choked my enthusiasm. One thing that was good about this film though was the music. I have to admit it, the music was excellent and in harmony with the motion picture. The best tracks on this CD are Traeme Paz, El Mariachi and Siente Mi Amor (Salma Hayek brings out the best in her sensuality in this song). I'm not a big fan of Latino music but some of these songs are so beautiful they deserve to be listened to. Yo Te Quiero and Cuka Rocka both are well known songs and excellent to dance to, while Flor Del Mal is a very nice and chilling ballad. This CD is a great addition to your music collection, don't hesitate to buy it.

These days, everyone wants to be eclectic and the mastermind of some hyphenated style, but very few fusioneers are as fearless as this new all-star acoustic ensemble led by violinist Matt Glaser and featuring Andy Statman (clarinet, mandolin), John McGann (guitar, mandolin), Tony Trischka (banjo), Bruce Barth (piano), Jim Whitney (bass), and Jennifer Kimball (vocals). The recording also includes cameos from Lucy Kaplansky, Tim O'Brien, and others. Hang onto your Stetson as "Man of Constant Sorrow," kicked off by Trischka's banjo and the craggy voice of Ralph Stanley himself, wanders into interludes of rolling jazz piano. Elsewhere, klezmer clarinet melodies rise out of the Appalachian mist, Emily Dickinson poetry soars to late-night jazz, and bluegrass classics are boldly yet gently reharmonized--a series of transformations and explorations with strong spiritual overtones. The Strangers are definitely on a quest, and listeners who suspend their expectations will be rewarded with music that's beautifully played and uniquely transporting. --Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers

Ralph Stanley UNLEASHED.......2007-04-07
Ever have one of those wacky impossible dreams? 'like you're floating over the Grand Canyon, or, while preparing to make a shot on a $10,000 billiard table, you look up, and you're in a jungle?!
That's what this is.
I'll throw 5 stars in the pot merely because this is so far out there, that I can't possibly lose this hand---This is one of the most bizarre things this reviewer has ever heard.
The talent involved is first-rate, and their performances are "stellar", but, ..., But...???
Good, but not as good as it gets.......2005-12-21
True to their name, the Wayfaring Strangers are an only partially fixed group of musicians, with some wandering in and out. Even after reading a Sing Out! article about them I have trouble keeping the line-up straight. Their music is a mixture of bluegrass and traditional (now marketted as "roots") with significant swing and contemporary singer-songwriter elements, among others. This confluence makes for a fresh sound, even on well-worn tunes, yet is broadly accessible. The level of musicianship is quite high on an individual basis, and there's not a bad track on the disc.
The reason I'm only giving an average rating is that the group is not at the level on this CD that they would soon reach. The first time I heard them was in concert in NYC around 2003. They had a relaxed but bouncy rhythm, energy, and on some songs a lot of emotional force. Those qualities can be heard on this disc but they are somehow blander, like someone turned down the contrast and color controls a bit. Their follow-up CD, This Train, is more robust. So while the music is well played (or sung), creative and enjoyable, I can't give the CD a top rating because the WS have attained greater things. Still recommended, for its merits are many.
Ralph Stanley and Laszlo Gardony. Great combination!.......2004-11-14
The "Man of Constant Sorrow" sung by the great Ralph Stanley and featuring an amazing piano solo by Laszlo Gardony is without question the best track on this beautiful CD.
The music is truly inspiring on "Shifting Sands of Time". Hats off to the leader and innovative mind of the band, Matt Glaser! Bravo Wayfaring Strangers!
Best cover ever????.......2004-08-26
I probably shouldn't write a review until I get the CD, which I'm ordering now. I heard "High On A Mountain" on our local community radio station this morning (KRCL, SLC, Utah) and it knocked my socks off... this may very well be the best cover of any song by any band! Not only was the delivery on the vocals excellent, but the fiddle really pulled it together.
Then I saw the lineup... Matt Glaser, Andy Statman, Tony Trishka... it all made sense. I'm a fan of Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk, etc, so the other reviews discussing the mix of styles just intrigued me more. I can't wait to hear the rest!
Pure as a mountain stream..........2004-03-19
Imagine Diana Krall married Bella Fleck, (instead of Elvis), and moved to the mountains of East Tennessee. This collection of, dare I use the cliche "eclectic", bluegrass is what jazz should've been if if hadn't been polluted by the St Louis and Chicago "free-run but no melody" city-fication of the people's music. Not only do you get virtuoso performances on strings, you also get Lucy Kaplansky, Rhonda Vincent, Ry Cavanaugh, and more. This album is like the south... you either get it or you don't. And if you don't... please refrain from embarrassing yourself.

Album Description
For centuries women in Africa and the Middle East have used Zar music to cure pain in times of stress or illness. Followers of the Zar cult believe that sometimes their illnesses are caused by "red spirits" - the Zar - who use human bodies as hosts. These spirits attract attention to themselves by making their hosts sick. Only after acknowledging a spirit's presence and meeting its demands can a woman hope to attain a symbiotic relationship with her possessor --- and she discovers the identity of this intruder by dancing to this music until she collapses into a trance.
A quote from Lucy - the famous Egyptian belly dancer:
"I started dancing when I was 12 years old. Since I can remember, whenever I heard music my body would just start to move. I couldn't control it. I used to love it when the old women got together for a Zar. A Zar was called when someone was possessed by evil spirits. If you were mad, or sad, or upset, that's how you would get it out. As a young girl, when I went to the Zar, I was always very affected by it. I would get so exhausted that I would collapse and fall. I realized that the music took me over. The beat can get inside of you and make you crazy. The rhythm gets you. You know, like when you're listening to Western rock music, you get hysterical. You have to get up and dance. You can't stop moving."
This album was recorded in Cairo by one of the few remaining Abou al-Gheit Zar groups left in Egypt, Awlad Abou al-Gheit. Their Sudanese roots can be heard in the music's distinctive African drum rhythms. Each spirit is believed to answer to a specific song and rythm. The album contains a 32 page color booklet about the history of the Zar, the ceremony itself and translations of all the lyrics. There is also an extensive section about the Jinn - spirits made of fire and air by Allah and mentioned in the Quran.
Customer Reviews:
Real Music!.......2006-01-18
Very compelling music to listen to, very moody with strong rhythms. I greatly enjoyed both listening and dancing along with this CD.
amazing music and culture.......2005-11-03
Anthropologists, social historians, Middle Eastern culture buffs and dancers all benefit greatly from this thoughtfully put together and presented CD.
The 32 page booklet gives amazing insight into the culture of the Zar rituals and includes translations of the lyrics. Something I've never seen on any other zar recording.
The rich music is not for dance performance. But the CD will provide the dancer with an understanding of the ritual behind the rhythms often incorporated in Middle Eastern dance music.

Customer Reviews:
The Sands Of Time provide an excellent soundtrack.......2005-12-23
If you've played UBI-SOFT's remake of Jordan Mechner's Prince of Persia series, THE SANDS OF TIME, you'll know that aside from the charming characters Princess Farah and The Prince himself, the game's big drawer were the beautifully designed castles and enviorments of Ancient Persian and Indian kingdoms, the intense fights (zero boss battles save one), and the puzzles that made the gears in your head turn. But of course, its hard not to forget the music that set the atmosphere for each battle or cinematic throughout the game.
The music as a stand alone is a true treat for the ears; You can picture the battles fought in whatever way and the cinematic scenes as the music plays on your radio or computer. Composer Stewart Chatwood provides and excellent soundtrack to the game with varying string instruments, sitar electric gituars along with the meserizing Arabian vocals of Maryeem Tollra and others playing in sync with most of the battle or cinmatic themes on the soundtrack that define each track. The CD is over fifty minutes long which and should please anyone who like a soundtrack that isn't too long.
However, like with most videogame soundtracks, this Japanese IMPORT for The Sands of Time is riddled with thirty to fifty six minute tracks inbetween two to three minute songs, which may disappoint the listener a great deal. Another letdown with the SOT - OST is the price tag coming along with the CD itself.
The $49.99 price tag is bound to get higher with the cost of shipping and handling, so this will defiantly make some people weary of purchasing. There is also 15 (the 16th being a comerical song titled "A scratch in time" performed by DJ-Melo-D) tracks from the game itself availble for downloading on the internet.
If that still doesn't please your purse, a page on SoundtrackNet describes an "Prince of Persia: The Official Trilogy Soundtrack" CD which combines several tracks of music from all three 2003-2005 Prince of Persia games --The Sands Of Time, Warrior Within and the recently released The Two Trones--- for a estimated consumer friendly price of only $13.00 wherever it is sold.
If the Import Tax price doesn't bother you, "The Prince of Persia - Sands Of Time OST" from Japan will be a surprisingly enjoyable buy for those who don't mind the thirty second cinematic tracks and looped battle theme music. Others will have to look elsewhere.
The best battle themes of the game are downloadble internet titled battle themes:
1): Introduction (The Start Menu theme) 5/5
2): The 1st Battle (Prince battles through Indian palace) 5/5
3): The 2nd Battle (Prince Battles through ruins of Azad palace) 5/5
4): The Baths Fight (The Prince Battles sand creatures in the baths of Azad) 4/5
5): The Halls Of Learning (Farah and the Prince enter the grand library) 4/5
6): The Prison Introduction/The Prison (The Prince battles through the Underground Prison) 5/5
7): The [Fight]-Courtyard/Elevator battle (The Prince reunites with Farah during a strenous battle in the Courtyard and battles sand creatures on the elevator in the Tower of Dawn) 5/5
8): The Magic Cavern (The Prince dreams of a fantasic oasis with Farah) 4/5
7): The Final Fight (The Prince Battles the Vizier after the sands are reclaimed in the Hourglass) 4/5
8): Time Only Knows (The melancholy ending theme to the Sands Of Time) 5/5
The Father - (The Prince discovers his father is transformed into a sand creature) 3/5
The Azad Zoo (The Prince and Farah Navagate through the Azad Zoo) - 3/5
The Bridge Battle (The Prince and Farah Battle sand creatures on the bridge after leaving the baths) 3/5
The Fight II (The same as "The Bridge Battle" only longer) - 3/5

memories of the 80s.......2007-04-22
as one of the reviewers before me wrote out some of the lyrics in the review, i immedietly remembred the song and sang the lyrics aloud. yes, i was alive in 1986 and had just graduated high school. the was THE album of that year. you could not go one day without hearing one of the tunes frok that album on the radio. 'even when you sleep' and 'two time lover' are my personal favorites.
Nothing But The Finest.......2004-07-24
The S.O.S Band are not usually an AOR-oriented group but
'Sands Of Time' is one of their very finest overall albums, without the usual aimless filler or mundane ballad material.A nice mixture of synthesized funk and real instrumentation with Mary Davis giving the vocals her all on this, her swansong with the band."Every Time You Sleep" and the title song are smoldering midtempo synth funk,as with the whole
album dyamically produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The hits,
including the muscular dance-funk of "Borrowed Love",The Finest"
and the heavily Time/Minneapolis-influenced "No Lies" all burn
with high energy verse from start to finish!Ditto for two
non-hits "Nothing But The Best" and "Do You Still Want To?".
Then there's "Two Time Lover",a uniquely arranged piece of
music with some unexpected grace notes and an unpredictable tempo. It's probably the finest thing on the album! All that being
said all eight songs on this album are upbeat, energetic, dancable
and extremely well written and performed. That's a whole lot more
then I can say not only for this group but for R&B,funk and pop
music in general in 1986-there were plenty of great songs out there just not a whole lot of great albums.Well a trip with
the SOS Band to 'Sands Of Time' will dispell that notion in a hurry!
The Best of ...................2004-05-25
This is a nice album, but the Best of SOS Band album from Tabu Records from 1995 is the best album... or compilation. it has 3 cuts from this album, plus all the hits: take your time, Even When you sleep, weekend girl, tell me if you still care, just be good to me, sand of time, no one's gonna love you, high hopes, and what's wrong with our love affair(which it could have done without). back when funk grooves were real music... By the way, this album isn't even listed on CDNOW...
I Would Give Anything For The CD Version..........2003-07-27
I just recently 'rediscovered' this album (on tape version) while doing some cleaning up and moving around. I had forgotten all about this one here, but one play instantly reminded me of how much I love the SOS Band. Hailing from Atlanta Georgia, this funk group produced many classic grooves and hits for the eighties. This fourth album was the lead singer's, Mary Davis, last outing with the group. I can tell you that this is classic summertime music. 'The Finest' is just a great song.
"After all that we've been through
Time won't change the way I feel about you
out of all the loves before
you're the finest I've ever known"
Everybody that was alive in 86 knows that song. That's the jam right there. 'Even When YOu Sleep' was another instantly enjoyable groove.
"Even when you sleep/ you know that I'm there
to hug and keep you warm/ and soothe you while you're dreaming
a twinkle in your mind/ should bring back lots of joy
sweet dreams my love will always be yours when you sleep" Another Jam.
The group focused mostly on the midtempo jams such as that one and Mary Davis had the smoothest voice to perfectly compliment these tracks. They could also get down with dance grooves and ballads, don't be mistaken. Every song is a classic. The title track, Nothing But The Best, No Lies, Borrowed Love, Two time Lover. This is an absolute must have, get this one anyway that you can and by all means necessary, no matter the consequences.
The Essential SOS Band Album.......2003-04-04
Without a doubt this is the best album ever relesed by the now disbanded SOS Band, Jam & Lewis at the height of their popularity and creativity. It is the perfect album to kick back to and enjoy the summer by the pool with Enjoy.........

Took a few spins but!.......2007-02-13
I really dig this cd now after I've given it a few spins. At first spin I wasn't all that impressed or I should say it really didn't knock me out. I thought it was ok, but nothing really earth shattering. However as I've given it a few more goes in the ol' cd player it has grown on me. It's one of those cd's that take a few listens to truly appreciate all that's going on. In the end I'm impressed enough to say don't be affraid to check it out as it's prog metal heaven.
CAN'T GO WRONG WITH BLACK MAJESTY.......2005-11-21
Great debut album from downunder. This is fantastic melodic metal that is heavy. A huge highlight in this band is their singer. He deals out the most fantastic vocals that will blow your mind. Of course with a melodic band you expect the instruments to be out-of-this-world, and they are. Do yourself a favor and don't ignore these guys any longer. No dissapointments with these guys, a must have.
Power metalheads behold.......2005-08-24
This cd was excellent. Perfect for when you just want to relax with some good powermetal. Black Majesty has taken place in my collection along side of hammerfall, nightwish, and Ozzy. I strongly recommend metal fans purchase this. You will not regret it.
Absolutely Amazing!.......2004-06-08
As progressive metal continues to make its way into the emerging music industry, many talented artists are making the scene. Black Majesty just so happens to do just that. With their first studio release "Sands of Time", they definetly have a future.
I had only seen an ad for the CD, so it took curiousity for me to buy it. I didnt know what to expect, but it definetly took me by suprise. The guitar-work as well as the keyboard-work is very unique as it touchs Iron Maiden but in a very, new style.
You can really tell how bands like Iron Maiden and Dio influenced metal. "Beyond Reality" and "Guardian" are my favorite tracks, at no point did they dissapoint me, but instead kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for more. "Lady of the Lake" brings out the soft side of the Australian group when it introduces the beauty of keyboards & light guitars.
You should definetly pick this CD up, you will not be dissapointed.. as long as you love rock :P
great debut album from power metallers downunder.......2003-12-14
i'd heard a lot of promising stuff from Black Majesty so i was very keen on searching out the debut sands of time. And boy it is a great album. songs like the opener fall of the reich bring me back to the time when Queensryche were writing quality metal whilst the song guardian is one of the best epic metal songs of the past few years. some standout vocals from john C and his cousin danny C (who used to be the singer of pegazus i believe) provide the highlight. talk about vocal range! other personal faves are legacy which is a real straight ahead power number and the title track sands of time. beyond reality and colliding worlds show off the bands mega double kick drummer and the guitars demonstrate their progressive influences along the lines of fates warning.
a very impressive debut! an album which should be searched out by fans of classic Iron Maiden, Judas priest, Queensryche, and Helloween. Bring on album number 2.

Leila is one of Cairos brightest dance stars. Night after night she shines in some of the most exclusive nightclubs, restaurants and weddings. Her musicians are some of the best in Egypt. Leila is known throughout the Middle East. Her work on Arabic television brings her into homes all over the region. From high profile video clips with superstar singers to live televised stage shows, her dancing can be seen everywhere. Her latest clip, with singer Ali Hagar, won three prizes in the Cinema Magazine Film Festival at Sharm el Sheik. She is also on clips with Walid Toufiq, Samira Saieed, Hishem Abaz, Moustafa Amr, Hakim, Khalid Seleem, and Ahmed Fahti, to name a few. Leila is well-known in Egypt for her acting and modeling as well. On television she trades lines with top Arabic actors in sit-coms and commercials. And her most recent role for the cinema, in the blockbuster film Abu Araby Wasal, won rave reviews. This is the second belly dance CD that Leila has produced with her band. The first, Helwa, has sold well throughout Europe and North America. Her music represents cutting edge dance music as it is heard today in Cairo s many performance venues. The album includes music for a complete belly dance show.

Customer Reviews:
Heavy?.......2005-12-31
The term heavy would not do this band a dime's worth of justice. This is by far one of the heaviest, most brutal records I have ever heard. The delivery of each track is given with such brute force, it's almost hard to believe that a band could be this heavy yet listenable.
If metal is your gig, you must do yourself a favor and grab this record. Compare it to anything you have in your collection and I firmly believe nothing will be as heavy as this one. Great band, great potential. They have what it takes and I can't wait to hear more.
In Love With The End by these guys is also a must have. In any regard, crank your tunes loud and enjoy. Cheerz!
