Smooth as silk.......2006-08-25
The had many song that are classic I never get tried of hearing them.
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful!!.......2006-03-13
This complilation of music with the various artists on this one CD is great. The choices of the songs in this order seems to flow very smoothly. I recommend the other volumes 1,3 and 4 to complete the set. I have been searching for more in this style but no other can match this Smooth Jazz set. This is a wise investment.
A Must Have CD!!!.......2001-04-04
I have the entire Best Of Smooth Jazz Collection. The entire set is great, all you need is some chilled wine!
Great compilation of some of smooth jazz's greatest hits.......2001-02-26
What a super compilation. The name is actually a bit of a misnomer. A lot of the music here is not merely smooth jazz instrumentals. Most are actually smooth R&B vocals. No matter, this is a great CD. You may not know all the songs by title, however you will recognize them when you hear the CD. Almost worth the price of admission is the inclusion of the Al Jarreau/David Sanborn/Bob James version of "Since I Fell For You". Every song is a solid 10, plus this is a definite "Shut Up and Kiss Me" romantic CD.
great.......2000-05-01
a good time for romance.just a great gig!

Customer Reviews:
Controversial second effort from the Pure Funk series.......2004-10-12
The second and more controversial disc in the Pure Funk series, Pure Funk Vol. 2 contains many Funk band and Funk artist's slightly lesser known hits plus a few from groups not immediately recognizable as masters of Funk. The songs are a bit slower in tempo and might be a better album to play at the end of the night when the party is winding down -- not when you want to crank things up.
There are a few highlights, however. One can't help but recall the local boys feeble attempts at stripping in the movie "The Full Monty" whenever Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing" begins. While Queen certainly wasn't a Funk band by anyone's stretch of imagination, they did write one excellent, kickin' base line for "Another One Bites The Dust" that's instantly recognizable anywhere and would make any Funk band proud to call their own! Stomp twice on the bleachers and clap! Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" is always a crowd pleaser and Barry White proves once again in "I'm gonna Love You Just a Little More" that the deep voice gets the girl.
For those not of the `Keep on Truckin'' generation, you'll discover the origin of many samples from your favorite songs (you mean they didn't write that rif themselves?!?!) plus you'll discover what song the Spice Girls ripped off for their album Spice World. Hint: She's a Bad Mama Jama . . . . Just don't tell anyone you think all of this stuff is funk, because it's not. That doesn't mean you won't enjoy the album as much as I did, just know that the first Pure Funk album is a better `Funk primer.'
Like the first Pure Funk album, not everything is from the 70's funk era -- half of the songs in fact. "Let It Whip" by Dazz Band, "Ain't Nobody" from Rufus & Chaka Khan, D Train's "You're The One For Me," The Gap Band's "Outstanding" were all early to mid 80's hits. "Get Down On It" by Kool & The Gang, The Whispers "It's a Love Thing," Rick James' "Give it to Me Baby," Carl Carlton's "She's a Bad Mama Jama," and Junior's "Mama Used to Say" were all released in the year 1981.
Twenty songs for ten bucks -- that's 50 cents a song. If you delete the songs on the album you don't consider "Funk," you're only out a few bucks. Buy this album only after you get the first album first.
I know what I like.......2002-03-20
A lot of the other reviewers have blasted this CD because it is not a true funk compilation. Well, maybe so. I don't know. I'm not a connoisseur of the art form. All I know is that I enjoyed the hell out of these songs (with the exception of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust," which I could happily live the rest of my life without hearing again). I was exclusively into metal when these songs came around the first time, so it's a pleasure to be exposed to so many great pop songs that I was only dimly aware of, if I had heard them at all.
Soft and commercial.......2001-12-21
Seems like they sold too many of the first volume, and have produced a second just to try to rake in a little more. Hardly any of the tracks on this album are funk, and as for Queen being the opener... it speaks for itself. To me, funk is typified by an active bass line, compelling beat and sharp guitar or brass; any or all of these are lacking on most of the tracks here. What you get instead is a collection of slothful, disparate songs, hardly conducive to dancing. Save your money.
Not FUNK!!!.......2001-11-28
This is, in no way, shape or form, funk!!! I mean, how the hell is "Another One Bites The Dust" funk?! My God!!! This is sure as hell not "Pure Funk", this is soft, white funk!!! (...)
pure non funk 2.......2001-10-10
funk is that kinda vibe you eat hotwings and groove at fish fries funk is when you come out of church's chicken jamming, sorry but half this cd is not funk, d train is bubblegum pop, gap band outstanding is not funky enough, but hits, why is queen on here they was not a funk group, the whispers no way hose, carl carlton's she's a bad mama jama is not a funk classic, i always said these funk compilations does the artists injustice, if you wanna learn what funk is check out the original recordings well i'll list a few, the entire catalog, and entourage of james brown, parliament-funkadelic, sly stone, larry graham, bootsy collins, barkays, ohio players, chaka khan and rufus, cameo, curtis mayfield, mandrill, earth, wind fire, war, the list is endless.

the perfect blend.......2007-05-10
The perfect balance that will keep the hip hop crews b-boying and the jazz minded awestruck . Featuring Jeff Lorber , Mike Phillips and Patrice Rushen what more can you possibly ask.Only loses a star for not Featuring Q-Tips Breathe and stop which is well overdue.
Always on Time.......2007-05-09
Wonderful compilation of Jazz and hip hop. I just love it. I bought the whole collection and when I roll out its with me.
Pretty Good.......2007-02-15
I like this CD. It has a few hot tracks on it and a few not so hot tracks. This is not as good as Volume 1. Whose second album has ever matched their first? Still, I think you should buy it. If you like jazz and R&B and some hip hop, but can't sit still and listen to the dribble on the local radio stations, this is a very nice break from all that.
the best.......2007-01-10
My purchase was right on time. I enjoy doing business with amazon.
Oustanding!!!!.......2004-07-03
This is by far one of the best Jazz/Hip-Hop cd's I have ever owned...its perferct when you can't find the right music to please everyone. Also great at bar-b-cues!!

Great Collection!.......2005-08-12
I have been using Amazon.com for 6 years now, and this is the first product review i am doing.....just goes to show you how much i like this cd. I have been browsing for disco songs for many years, and this is the first time i have my all-time favorites on one disc. "Stomp", "Flashlight", and others to name a few, and classics. I would have paid twice the amount to get that!
LT
More 12" long versions--EDITED .......2005-08-09
Disco Nights is the series that should have--but didn't go the extra mile. Promising Extended and Long Versions, it always makes sure no song runs much more than 7 minutes, even if that means editing 12" versions. This time around, you get:
1. Celebration (5:00)
2. Shake Your Groove Thing (6:41)
3. Let It Whip (4:32) (not the 12"!!!)
4. FLashlight (5:49) (the full version is over 10 minutes long)
5. Stomp (6:03)
6. Sugar Pie Guy (4:37) (not the 12")
7. Got To Give it Up (6:03) (original is over 11 minutes long)
8. Jungle Boogie (3:07)
9. Burn Rubber (5:34)
10. Put Your Body In It (6:06)
11. Don't Let Go (7:21) (edit of 12" version)
12. Hang on in there (5:08)
Diana Ross ruins it all!!!!!.......2005-06-16
I bought this CD primarily because it contained the hit "Hang On In There Baby" by Johnny Bristol. Nowhere was it mentioned that this was a version that had been ruined by the addition of vocals by Diana Ross!!!!!! I found this to be misleading advertising and I was very disappointed. Had this CD not be saved by a few other good hits(Got to Give It Up for example), I would have thrown it in the trash. I wouldn't even sell it to a second-hand shop as nobody should have to be subjected to the screechings of Ms. Ross. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!
Review of The best disco funk from Josephine Yong.......2005-06-10
I rated 2 stars and the price is $2.99. "LET IT WHIP" by the Dazz Band, 2nd is " CELEBRATION" by Kool and the Gang, 3rd is the "SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING" Peaches & Herb. The rest of the songs needs to be replace.
Funky Disco Fun!.......2002-01-20
This is a great CD because it contains the LONG versions of some great all time disco funk classics. ......... Although Disco isn't my favorite type of music per-se, I am a devout rocker with a alternative bent, I LOVE a few cuts here. ......... My first radio on-air job was in the Urban/CHR hits format. "Burn Rubber" from the Gap Band is one of my all-time favorite songs that I fell in love with at that time of my life. It is on here in all it's great funky entirety. A must have song from the brothers Wilson, not featured on any other compliations. ......... Another set of brothers, Johnson that is, do the other must have disco funk classic "Stomp" here. This song isn't featured on any other compilation I searched. I looked high and low at over 200 available CDs here at amazon, and found this cut included as well. ............ There's lots of good material for any disco funkster to boogie down with, like "Jungle Boogie" from Kool & TG, but in a really perfect world, "Take My Heart" would've been included too. Hey, bottom line, this is WELL worth a spot in your CD collections disco section.

Excellente CD!.......2004-12-31
It so happened that I saw this in Best Buy and didn't know what it was. A co-worker burned me a copy and I could have went crazy! This CD was the only reason I liked being at work! (ha ha) Being a musician myself I love good music (especially freestylin') and this is GREAT music! Nobody can complain about having a ambiguous blend of hip-hop and jazz. I can hum to this (and play pretend instruments) and my brother (the hip-hopper of the family) can also enjoy it. This was a great idea.
I bought all three volumes after listening to the clips on Amazon.com and I have not been disappointed!! These cd's are in my bedroom on my computer and in my car for road trips. Awesome!

Jazz + Hip/Hop = New Age BeBop.......2003-09-04
OK, I prefer the Jazz of Dizzy, Miles, and Wynton, but I am not a snob to the smooth jazz circuit and players such as Sanborn, Albright, Boney James, etc. One day in passing I heard "Hot in Herre" on a radio station. I was hooked. I spent the next 2 months googling the Internet and Kazaa to find it because in the radio station's wisdom they didn't say who arranged that version of the song. I thought the arrangement was very original and fantastic. After a few months I finally found Hidden Beach Recording Vol I and II. I have heard "Hot in Herre" and "Gangsta's Paradise"on the radio and was completely captivated. I don't know if it's Karen Briggs(Who is out of this world) or just the whole Jazz/hip hop fusion which I term as New Age BeBop. I would have liked some more original drumbeats as a percussion foundation instead of those canned beats, but outside of that, there is enough original instrumental layers to mask the canned drumbeats, beside, you get the same from true Hip Hop anyway. I think the volumes are great and the talent represented is also excellent. The feeling I get when listening to these tracks is the same as I get when I am listening to BeBop from Dizzy, Miles, and Bird.... Just pure octane. If you listen to "Forget about Dre" from Vol, "Hot in Herre" from Vol II, or "Gangster's Paradise" from Vol II and are not at least tapping your fingers or bobbing your head, I question if there is a pulse attached to those body parts. I would love to witness this live just to be present and witness the musical improvisation that happens in playing these songs. I would recommend both CDs to those with backgrounds in old school jazz, smooth jazz, and to anyone who has an open mind about music. I think this is the bridge between Hip Hop and Jazz. There is room for improvement, but I think it's a work in process. Keep up the good work Hidden Beach...
For Mature Music Lovers.......2003-06-23
This CD is what I have been looking for. You get to the point in your life where you are still young enough to like hip-hop, but old enough to appeciate a little jazz. This CD has it mixed into one, which is(simply put)GENIUS!! That is where I am right now. I have the best of both worlds. Waiting for volume 3!
Nice but annoying...........2003-05-30
After listening to this CD a couple of times, I realized that it's not a CD that I would listen to over & over again. The songs are cool, but there's something quite annoying about them. It's too loud, the saxophone is irritating (must the saxophonist over-emphasize every note with heavy tonguing?), the beats and chords are repetitive, and overall the CD is poorly produced. The music sounds like it's performed by a bunch of premature, overly-excited, unseasoned musicians who think they've invented something new. This whole notion about blending jazz/r&b/hiphop because "somebody finally got it" is like somebody bragging about mixing together carrots, potatoes and beef and calling it "stew". Other jazz artists have incorporated r&b and hiphop into their music, e.g. Alex Bugnon, George Duke & Boney James to name a few. So I don't see what all of the hype is all about...This is a nice CD but it ain't all THAT!
Satisfactory but not great.......2003-04-14
While vol 1 was fairly interesting covers of Top40 rap, this CD is a borderline let down. Some of the songs start out catchy and then theyp change or you just get sick of what the musicians are doing. If you really liked vol 1 you will find this volume satisfactory but if you are looking to buy a Top40 rap cover CD, get the 1st volume before thinking about getting this one. About the only reason I even give this CD 3 stars is that I really love Will Smith's 'Summertime' and was glad to hear it covered, and Nelly's 'Hot in here' was interesting, but the CD doesn't have much more to offer. Like I stated in my review for vol 1, the band really needs to practice, not that they are out of tune or beat, but the actualy recomposition of the songs.

The Raes - A Little Lovin'.......2006-05-09
When I go to The Raes looking for A Little Lovin', I am led to The Disco Years, Vol.2.....but this song is not on the list.
Does anyone know where I can find it on CD?
We're in the groove!.......2005-09-08
This is a great collection of disco songs, dating from 1978 to 1982. Eleven of these songs were hits, with five of them going all the way to #1. But even the five songs that were not hits are of a high quality. This CD isn't quite as good as The Disco Years, Vol. 1, but it's still great.
Uneven collection of disco songs.......2005-03-31
As I have stated in other reviews, I love disco music. During the height of the disco craze ('78-'79), I was a pre-teen (10-12) and not old enough to go out to clubs. I listened to disco music on the radio and dreamed of one day, to paraphrase Chic, "finding my spot out on the floor." My favorite year as far as music is concerned is 1979. Disco was everywhere that year. This CD contains some of the best songs from that year, including: "I Want Your Love" by Chic; "Ring my Bell" by Anita Ward; "I Wil Survive" by Gloria Gaynor; "Ain't no Stoppin' us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead; "Disco Nights (Rock-Freak)" by GQ; "YMCA" by the Village People; "Heart of Glass" by Blondie; and "Got to be Real" by Cheryl Lynn. Those to me are the best tunes on this CD.
There are 3 other songs on the CD that I like, but I don't really consider them to be true disco tunes. Rather, I consider them to be what disco evolved into after it's official death. "Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. is a great dance song, but to me it is a fusion of R&B and synth-pop. "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang is a pop tune all the way. "Forget me Nots" by Patrice Rushen is probably the closest to disco of these three songs, but by the time it came out in 1982, disco was so dead that it certainly was not referred to as a disco song.
Those are the 11 songs that I like on this CD. Now, as I stated earlier, I was too young to go to clubs during this time. So, the songs included here that did not cross over to the pop chart were unfamiliar to me when I bought this CD. Those songs are "This Time Baby" by Jackie Moore; "I Like What You're Doin' to Me" by Young & Company; "Last Night a DJ Saved my Life" by Indeep; "On the Beat" by The BBQ Band; and "Love and Desire" by Arpeggio. I have grown to like these songs after repeated listens, but I would have preferred them to be replaced by songs with which I am more familiar. Here is a list of songs that I would have chosen over the ones presented here: "A Little Lovin' (Keeps the Doctor Away)" by The Raes; "You Keep me Dancing" by Samantha Sang; "Saturday Night, Sunday Morning" by Thelma Houston; "I (Who Have Nothing)" by Sylvester; "Superman" by Herbie Mann; "Heaven Must Have Sent You" or "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" by Bonnie Pointer; or "Hold on to My Love" by Jimmy Ruffin.
If you only know disco by what was played on the radio, then you are gonna like 11 of these songs and are gonna skip over the other five songs. But the CD is certainly worth owning for those 11 tunes.
1990 - Disco forever!.......2004-11-12

Customer Reviews:
Erroneous grouping of disco and non-disco songs!.......2003-06-29
While the songs here are certifiable hits, some of them do not belong in the "disco" genre ("Brickhouse", "Celebration", just to cite two). Whoever compiled these must have thought that all songs with a dance beat from the late seventies to mid-eighties belong in the category.
He/She needs a little re-education.
And although it was good to boogie to, "Disco Lucy" represents basic ingredients used to make records at the time. Many a producer just assembled a group of session instrumentalists, revamped a classic tune to a disco beat, threw in three female vocalists to provide the "wails of ecstasy" and "VOILA!" a hit was born.
At the time of its release, the song worked. Now, it sounds like the ridiculous little ditty that it really was in the first place.
But, we didn't care. We danced to it, anyway just like our folks danced to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"!
