5 out of 5 stars killer.......2006-10-14

i first got into bleeding through after i heard lost in a hail of gunfire. after hearing the song i went out and got this is love, this is murerderous and thought they killed it! but after listening to the record it all started to sound the same with a few tracks that really stood out to me, i was really reluctant to pick up portrait but when i did i fell in love with this band again! this album is way better than this is love, i just can't stop listening to it. but this group has a lot of promise and they seem to only keep getting better because the truth kills everything! i can't decide which is better though the truth or portrait. the truth musically is brutal but i could have done with out all the clean vocals and the only slow track that's on it, but the keyboards and drums kill! anyways, promising band.

5 out of 5 stars good.......2005-12-04

this is a good CD..i personally like "This is Love, This is Murderous" better...ive listened to this CD alot...and i still find new things about it...M. Shadows from A7X appears in #5 of this CD...overall great buy, if you like "This is Love, This is Murderous" then you'll like this..

4 out of 5 stars [...].......2005-09-14

One of the best metalcore albums ive heard. Really heavy chugging guitars, harsh screamed vocals mixed with an occasional clean part, and fast aggressive drumming.

The ringout at the end of the Saviour Saint Salvation instrumental gives me a huge [...]

Im pretty much sick of the whole overplayed metalcore genre but this album i still always come back to. Its not particularly innovative or unique (some may argue its generic), but the songs are well written, and relatively catchy, and the breakdowns will make you destroy.

This band is blowing up at the moment and its good to see them still playing cuts of this album when they play live as this is much better then This is Love...

Recommended if you like moshy chugging metalcore

5 out of 5 stars Some people no nothing about music.......2005-01-22

First off i would like to say that bleeding through kicks ass. second off to the idiots that hated bleeding through the singer brandon was also the gutiarest for eighteen vsions and for throwdown. Now on to the albim its self, excellent hardcore for the most part, insane vocals backed up by griddy guitars and probaly the best drummer i have heard in awhile. I say everyone should buy this and maybe some that already own it should take a second a listen and get off the crazy death metal trip cause this hardcore.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2004-12-20

While Bleeding Throughs Portrait Of A Godess doesnt add much new to the table, it is still a very good album. I would definetely recommend this instead of This Is Love This Is Murderous. TILTIM is a pretty generic and boring album. True, Bleeding Through are your typical metalcore band, but they play their music with more passion, fury, aggression and energy than most of them out there. The musicianship is pretty good, especially the drumming. The keyboards in this CD are also pretty interesting. The keyboardist Marta doesnt play anything hard or complicated, but she does add a different element to the music. The highlight tracks here are "Rise" and "Portrait Of A Goddess", two of the most aggressive metalcore songs that youll ever hear. Recommended

Vocalist and composer Celeste Alayne presents Portrait of the Goddess as 10 songs, revealing the face of the goddess in her many guises through musical stories. Alayne's vocals are a nice medium-weight second soprano, which serves these ethnic-influenced songs well. Within the structure of heavily synthesized New Age pop, the pieces are fleshed out with Celtic, Asian, and Native American stylings, though they never attempt to be full-blown "traditional." Likely to appeal to pagan and wiccan communities, Portrait of the Goddess is Earth-centered and feminine in energy and will happily round out collections that already include Putumayo's Women of Spirit and Gary Stadler's Fairy series of recordings. --Paige La Grone

3 out of 5 stars I did not care for it........2007-01-10

The music is pretty but I like a CD to set a mood and this one was just too esoteric for my tastes

5 out of 5 stars Oh My Goddess!.......2004-07-24

Absolutely divine!! I find myself playing this CD over and over. I have a lot of Pagan and New Age music, but Celeste's praise to the Goddess is unlike anything I've listened to. The songs and chants are haunting and give me chills. Celeste's voice is beautiful. I anxiously await another CD from her!

5 out of 5 stars great music.......2002-12-07

I loved this cd! Her work is unusual and beautiful, and her voice is pretty. Gaia is a great song, and I loved Isis too, but all are good. She really sounds joyful and praises the Goddess in her songs. I wish she would put out another cd!!!

5 out of 5 stars A stunning collection........2002-10-14

I have purchased music related to the Goddess that turned out to be quite amateurish, so it was such a pleasant surprise to find this top quality CD from a singer with a truly lovely voice and truly inspired ideas about presenting songs. It is so wonderful how the music evokes the culture of the country or region which is the "home" of each Goddess, and how the artist changes her singing style to evoke that culture. My favorite is the hypnotic "Isis," which is so sinuous and exotic, I can't listen to it enough. Each song is a completely different experience, helping you travel the world and understand how truly multicultural, global, and all-embracing the Goddess is. What a truly wonderful musical achievement.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!!.......2002-09-21

With the execption of number 9, every song was absolutely wonderful. None of them sounded the same, which was a refreshing change. Morgan Le Fay is one of my favorites. It tells a story about her in a beautiful manner. The music on all of the selections is just absoultely fabulous, from the slower songs like Gaia, to the more chant-like songs like White Tara. Isis has a sound all its own, and is enchanting in its own way. Celeste's voice is just perfect for these songs, which allows for enduring quality to be created. You'll be singing these songs long after you hear it, even after just one time!! This CD is perfect to listen to anytime, and only gets better every time one hears it!
This is a great CD to start out with whether it's for goddess chants or for some truly wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars A LOVELY TRIP TO HEAVEN.......2007-01-22

Unfamiliar with this artist,I had no expectations prior to playing;Well....WOW-WE-WOW!! A delightful blend of sounds and words that immediately connected to the Goddess that is within......This is a must-have for any other Goddess for whom the noise of life has gotten way too loud..Quiet, peaceful, uplifting and beautifully presented-I applaud Miss Celeste on a body of work well thought-out and presented. As a vocalist myself,I further appreciate having this music in my collection of "soothing" sounds. An elixer for my soul!!THANK-YOU CELESTE.

Several female composers achieved some slight renown in 17th-century Italy, but none was more widely known or praised than the extraordinary Barbara Strozzi. This famously virtuoso singer wrote herself truly imaginative, compelling music--the wide-ranging, fluttering runs of the wedding song "Gite, o giorni dolenti," the passionate anguish and the unsettling chromatic turns in the melody of "Lagrime mie," the coquettish humor of "La sol fa mi re do," and on and on. For this "portrait of Barbara Strozzi," Catherine Bott gives a spectacular performance, encompassing the wide range (both vocal and emotional) and technical challenges of this music with ease and dramatic flair. (The accompaniment--harp, lute, and harpsichord--is particularly attractive as well.) The cantatrice virtuosissima (as Strozzi's contemporaries called her) has met her match. --Matthew Westphal

5 out of 5 stars Excellent entry in a thin field........2007-04-22

If this CD should become available, it is as good or better than other performances of Barbara Strozzi works, and there are not many to be had. The most remarkable thing is how modern much of it sounds, coming from a mid-17th century composer. All pieces are soprano arias with accompaniment by guitar, harpsicord and double harp.
