All my favorites. I can start the CD player, which is wired to speakers in every room of my house, and just let it play, along with "The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World" and "The Most Relaxing Classical Guitar in the World." I enjoy an awareness of familiar and beautiful strains of my favorites all day long and never get tired of it.

My brother visited me recently and noticed it right away. That will be another order for this fabulour music.

I was not really a classical music fan but I am now. I purchased this cd for my 14 year old grand-daughter, not knowing we would both enjoy the music so much. She has always enjoyed classical music along with all of the other teen music, rap, rock, country, etc.
Also, it really helped being able to listen to parts of the music before purchasing.

I first developed a taste for this music a number of years ago when my daughter started playing in the orchestra. The reason I made this purchase however, was because I have a great deal of difficulty with anxiety and I was looking for ways to find help. I love these CDs. It helps so much to sit and close my eyes and enjoy the music. The CDs are full of beautiful music.

Great Classic Themes.......2006-09-11

This is an awesome collection of unsettling melodies from the masters, not just some horror movie themes (though it does have some Psyco). You will end up playing a round of "Where have I heard that score before?" because these melodies are very iconic.
The only complaint is that the track listing is somewhat occult. One has to use amazon.com's track listings and fill in the numbers.
Still, this is a great buy!!

I would like to begin my review of this wonderful CD by stating that I am not a "kid." (unless you consider a 14-year-old to still be a child) I am, however, too lazy too start a new Amazon.com account before typing about this great CD.

Now then... In my eyes, this CD recieved 5 stars because of (what else!) the music. The quality of the music to be more specific. The sound of it was great and the selection of the pieces was pure genius. My personal favorite would have to be a three-way tie between Bach's Toccata and Fugue, Dukas' Sorceror's Apprentice, and Stravinsky's The Right of Spring.

I will leave you tonight with one final thought... Is it just me, or are most of the pieces from "Fantasia"? At least 7 (!) of the pieces are from that age-old classic. I think it's funny that they are on a collection such as "The Most Frightening Music in the Universe". And could the cover art be any worse?!

All in all it is a great CD to add to any collection. (and cheap!) Thanks!

Wow....better than I first thought.........2007-04-12

I came across this CD (from a "Relaxation" series) by accident and thought, oh no, just another compilation of classical music tidbits---and taken from TV commercials/shows yet---oh, spare me! But how wrong I was. Despite its boast of being, "The Most Popular Classical TV Themes in the Universe" title (and because the price was reasonable for a 2-CD set), I bought the CD and was amazed by the quality of the recordings. I was disappointed when neither the manufacturer nor Amazon.com provided a listing of the artists on the recordings; as after hearing some of the tracks, I wanted to buy the artists' complete renditions. My favorite track on this CD, Debussy's "Clair de Lune," is performed so movingly, so stirringly, so hauntingly, that I wish I knew who recorded it. Not all tracks are arranged for orchestra. An example is Handel's "Largo from Xerxes," which is arranged for harp-and-flute, an arrangement which I found delightful and reminiscent of times in the 18th century when the elite held their salons and provided such music at these events. There is no singing on any tracks; it's pure instrumental. I didn't purchase my copy for "relaxation," as the series promotes, for the CD is just as enjoyable to play anytime, anywhere, and especially with a quality headset!

Stevie on the dance floor........2002-08-20

This is the remixes of the rock/pop outing by Ms. Nicks that puts it up there with some of her best dance hits like "Stand Back" and "I Can't Wait". This cd comes with 3 sets of mixes that show that no matter where or what Stevie Nicks sings works. The 2 Tracy Young Mixes are trance style mixes and are just brilliant. The vocal club mix is 10:27 and the dub is 8:08. Trance trance trance. The Illicit mixes come in a Cher-like mix (7:49)that is good and two dub style mixes. The Vocal Dub Mix(7:32) is the best mix on this cd. Very aggressive yet with aliitle 80's flair thrown in for great effect. This mix kicks major... The Dub Instrumental mix is the same mix as the Vocal dub but no Stevie on it. Then you get a Extended album mix (6:35) for those who like the album mix. This was a number one club hit and hopefully the artist and record label will consider more remixes when thinking of releasing more singles in the future for releases.

interesting remixes, but...........2002-05-22

I've always wondered how Stevie would sound remixed for the clubs. I've heard, and own, a few club remixes from Fleetwood Mac; those remixes are a little more than extended album versions.
I was surprised to see a bona fide Stevie remix; she is always a little dark and her lyric too expressive for a techo backbeat. This cd5 contains two remixes and an extended album version of "Planets."
The Tracy Young remix is too long, the radio edit is good. Eleven minutes of this song gets to be boring and the mix is uninspired. The intro is way too long and it's really almost impossible to effectively use this song in a beat mix. The illict mix clocks in at a little over seven minutes, has a faster bpm and features a nice guitar overdub. The vocals fade in much sooner on this mix, very clean.
My personal favorite is the extended album version. It stretches the intent of the song, adding more emotion and a additional lyric.

Stevie Nicks has been a force on the rock & pop scene for two decades. Who would have guessed that, in the 21st century, she would dominate the dance charts? But she did, with "Planets of the Universe." The song hit #1 on Billboard's Dance Chart in 2001. This CD presents several dance mixes and an extended rock mix of the standout song from her album "Trouble in Shangri-La." The dance mixes are stellar, and the extended mix rounds out the CD as a nice addition to any fan's collection.

awful outdated remixes!.......2002-02-04

these sound like early 1990's club mixes...and they all sound the same. Soemone should've spent a little more money on some better remix engineers...a desperate attempt to stay hip.

"Disappear into the air...I wish you gone".......2001-12-31

I know she won't be disappearing after this because this has some good remixes of her song wrote in 1979. And doesn't sound like teeny bopper dance music. This song has been aged to perfection.This has some good remixes but some of them are long but hey it's Stevie Nicks. So therefore it is worth the time. The extended album version is also very good and I like the extra lyrics that go along with it. So if you feel like dancing I recommend this.

You'd think Neurosis and Isis would be getting royalties at this point for the sheer number of bands that have 'borrowed' their sound. Then again, if that's how it worked, everybody in Slint and the Pixies would be millionaires. But as we've stated repeatedly in the past, maybe there's nothing new under the sun, and yeah all bands steal/borrow/are influenced by other bands, but it's what you do with those borrowed sounds afterwards that makes a difference. Sure, without Neurosis there would be no Isis, but Isis took their Neurosis obsession and went in a whole new direction and created their own super distinctive sonic world. Hence most of the Isis and Neurosis influenced bands we love, have done just that, taken certain parts, and incorporated their own angle, added their own unlikely influences, and created a sound that if not ALL their own, was at least a unique take on a familiar sound.

Irepress definitely fit right in that whole post rock metal crowd. So all you fans of Isis, Pelican, Rosetta, Mouth Of The Architect, Tides, Grails, Angel Eyes, Conifer and the like, can probably just stop right here and press that BUY button and be done with it. But for those of you who are maybe a little saturated in terns of the whole postrockmetal thing, and wonder why exactly you should free up precious space on your cd shelf for Irepress, well, we'll tell you.

First off, these songs are just awesome. angular and complex, convoluted and tense. Emotional and super catchy. Not as metal as a lot of their brethren, but still pretty dang heavy, crunchy riffs, that go from jagged and harsh, to smooth and spacey often in the same song. But what makes Irepress really stand out is their unabashed, over the top progginess. Sure the genre itself has a built in prog aspect, with long songs and lots of parts, but Irepress take it even further, with LOTS of super proggy spacey breakdowns, swoony and blissed out, but mathy and a bit noodly as well, guitars are muted and understated, weaving complex soundscapes of subtle shuffle incorporating hand drums, trumpet, spaced out FX, drifting minor key melody, lots of delay and reverb, and a whole bunch of super unexpected little flourishes before lurching back into some loping monstrous metallic groove. Some of those parts sound like Santana, others like Genesis, but the thing is, they aren't just little breaks, they are as much a part of the sound and the songs as the crushing riffage or the mathy post rock. It's a strange combination, it takes a little while to get used to, imagine some jammed out fusion breaking into some almost Maidenesque guitar over a chugging metalcore breakdown, or some blissed out percussive ambience slowly building into a massive sludgy epic. Beyond the bands unique progginess, a lot of the riffs themselves are really strange, cobbled together from or broken up into convoluted chugs and soaring high end leads, bits of indie jangle and some seriously downtuned crunch.

A super strange band for sure, pushing lots of our favorite buttons, moody math rock, crushing metallic groove, spacey proggy noodle, dreamy ambience, all pretty dizzying actually, which is exactly why we can't seem to stop listening to this!

I defy you to find a better, more solid album than this.......2006-05-10

I saw these guys play with Isis and Zombi in Boston a few days ago. They opened, and I've got to be honest, i didn't want them to go off the stage, and make way for the other bands. I picked up this CD from the band after the show. I believe they aren't signed yet, but i am willing to bet they will be on hydrahead or ipecac in no time at all. Their sound is difficult to describe but pelican and dredg come to mind. There are no vocals on the albulm, however they do have a single, maybe he is only for their new material, not sure. but anyway, this disc is absolutely phenomenal. I have never seen such a brilliant juxtaposition of very delicate and precise melody with downright brutal metal. This band is easily in the same upper echelon of metal as Isis and Pelican are (that says a lot given the fact that this is their first release). I expect to see a lot more material from these guys in the near future and if you like pelican and isis, than pick it up. I have over 5000 cds and this one is easily in my top 5. I have been listening to it incessantly for days. the grooves and breakdowns are just soooo infectious. oh yeah, and apparently if you start the cd and the movie "goonies" at the same time, the CD serves as a perfectly synced soundtrack to the movie, haven't tried yet though
