Editorial Reviews
Cathy Angell - Author/Motivational Speaker
...Magellaen's clean and memorable sound will wash over your soul and leave you feeling happy and peaceful inside.
Product Description
This self-titled CD seamlessly mixes a variety of styles: world beat, jazz, folk, inspirational and contemporary. Beautiful instrumentals are scattered among powerfully worded songs which encourage us to pursue our dreams, use our talents and gifts and remember that love begins within each of us. A broad range of instruments are utilized throughout the CD, such as guitar, flute, Irish pennywhistle, melodic hardwood drums, Indian tabla, chimes, mountain dulcimer and Australian digeridoo, to name a few; resulting in a truly eclectic sound that is full of surprises.

You gotta be kidding?.......2004-06-27
Who was it that wrote these reviews? Best friends? Sorry, but that's the notorious habit of too many 'indie' artists. This group is decent, musically, but there is little distinct originality about them at all. There are numerous artists that would be much better choices for this genre; Renaissance, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, and Fairport Convention come to mind instantly, which are clearly Magellaen's heroes. Simply, they sound like a neighborhood band who didn't sell their CD's very well even at live gigs. Worst of all is their friggin' name. There's a conflict with other bands using that name, and to get around it they changed the spelling, slightly, because they knew the other bands existed. Revolting. Reminds me of a bird's song, "Cheap, cheap, cheap." Maybe changing their name to Renaizzance would have been better...

Problems.......2004-05-30
This isn't a bad CD, but there are a few things that bother me enough to sharply inhibit possibly enjoying it. For one, it's not really New Age, it's more like Celtic Folk. Pardon my candor, but there's a difference. Most of us who listen to "New Age" think of Vangelis, or Tangerine Dream, or the Andreas Wollenweider circle of artists. If you like Celtic style New Age then you might enjoy it. Number two, it's their band name. There is a problem with that name in the industry, with 2 other specific groups who have used that name for many years. Changing the spelling for legal use is very, very cheap. I find that a direct reflection of the kind of group they are. That alone inspires me to put the disc back on the shelf and browse for something else.
