About the Artist
Scot began experimenting with music at a young age. Starting off on the trumpet and piano, he soon became interested in the musical flexibility of the guitar, studying Rock and Jazz styles early on, then the sounds and techniques of Flamenco - he became proficient in this style and was performing for Flamenco dancers while still a teenager.

Already a skilled instrumentalist and songwriter, Scot teamed up with musical veteran Arturo Garibay in 1995, forming Taber & Garibay. After releasing a full-length album of original material entitled "Andromeda" the following year, the group became increasingly popular in the Latin-Jazz world, performing throughout the western United States, from San Francisco to Phoenix to Dallas and even Mexico.

While in the studio recording material for a follow-up to "Andromeda" in 1998, Scot started working on his own songs, recruiting local lazz talent to interpret his new brand of vocal Pop music. What began as studio experimentation quickly became the basis for a unique, ambient sound that was consistent with both the New Age-tinged smoothness of Scot's voice and the lyrical content of the songs. The result is the full-length CD "Liminal," a combination of World Beat guitar grooves, ironic lyricism, and the hookiness of radio Pop.

This is a really rich and rewarding bit of electronica -- of what I think they're calling the "illbient" variety. DJ Olive, who has recorded with We and also is featured on SYR 5 with Kim Gordon and Ikue Mori, seems to be the main force here. He's as interesting as Paul D. ("call me Spooky") Miller is, maybe moreso -- there are some really deep, wild sounds here. Not just electronica and sampling, either - there's a guitarist (Danny Blume, who I gather is working now, somewhat incongruously, with John Scofield) and a percussionist named "Loop." (I dunno Loop). Soundscapes for augmented ears -- cool stuff.

I saw this performed in NYC with the movie. It was one of the most fun and engrossing music experiences I have had in years! I bought the album and it stands alone as well. They are interesting and talented musicians
