"To The Border And Beyond" is just another fabulous song that shows Collin's great songwriting skills. It is an upbeat song that just keep your feet moving. Collin, I pray that you will continue to touch people's lives with your musics. Collin is the best musician in the wrold and he will never be forgotten.

There is so much to say about collin raye's heartfelt voice and appointing lyrics. This particular one has just captured me for eternity. "If I Were You" ranks for me as collin's top acheivement to date. It touches my most inner and deepest parts, as when singing-along, I sometimes find myself nearly bursting in tears. Combination of a great tune, meaningful lyrics and collin's sweeping-off-your-feet voice, makes this CD A MUST fot any Collin Raye fan, and to all you folks - Country music fans - wherever you are! God bless.

5 out of 5 stars Another great one.......1999-06-18

Alot of very well-done songs. My favorite is a "Man Of My Word", and this is definitely one of Collin's best albums. I am a "Man Of My Word", definitely get this one!

5 out of 5 stars Wooten & Bailey take you to the "Extreme".......2002-05-22

This release took me pleasantly by surprise. Having recently purchased "Jing Chi" the release off the Tone Center Records label featuring the trio of the great Robben Ford, Vinnie Colaiuta and Jimmy Haslip and liking it I decided to give this disc a spin.
All I can say is this cd is outstanding. The bass playing of Victor Wooten, of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and solo fame, and Steve Bailey is truly amazing. These guys are definitely masters of their instruments. Joined by Dennis Chambers on drums, these duo bass players put out an unbelievably melodic bass sound.
They're accompanied by some of the most accomplished bass players in the music industry today. Oteil Burbridge, Anthony Jackson, John Patitucci,Billy Sheehan and even drummer Chambers, all make guest appearances on this new disc. Not a bad lineup.
This disc is full of jazzy grooves, funked out tones and just great bass playing. All 13 tracks are just amazing. The duo also covers the late bass great Jaco Pastorius'"Portrait of Tracy". One of the standout tracks on this exceptional disc.
So all you fans out there of Stuart Hamm, Geddy Lee, Pastorius, Stanley Clarke and other bass greats go out and get this disc and discover a couple more great bass players; Wooten and Bailey!

5 out of 5 stars A must have for all Bass Players.......2001-12-28

My wife gave me this as a Christmas present along with a new Discman. The interplay between Victor and Steve is nothing short of a marriage of style and sound from two masters. What really takes this over the edge is the inclusion of other great bassist such as Oteil Burbridge, Billy Sheehan, Anthony Jackson and Prof. John Patitucci. This album is not just another slap fest or "lets see who can rip the fastest lines" but is quite melodic even with some of the complex timing. Dennis Chambers as usual rules on drums but isn't overpowering. I highly recommend this to all musicians who have the privilege of carrying the bottom and causing the groove to flow. It amazes me to think just what Victor will sound like ten years from now as he continues to progress and experiment. The Bass will never be the same thanks to music like this.

5 out of 5 stars **WOW**.......2003-09-25

I own the Bass Extremes Video so, I knew these 2 could play but, I was NOT expecting the musicality of this album. My Non-Bass playing freinds enjoy the music for the songs. If you want to listen to GREAT technique, Buy both of the Bass Extremes CD's (I did) Steve and Victor compliment each other and the writing is fantastic. I rated this as low as 5 starts because there is no higher grade. Bass players,GET THIS CD!!!!

5 out of 5 stars BASSically, it's the best.......2001-08-25

This cd is simply the best electric bass centered recording I've ever heard. It's very well recorded. The music hooks you with grooving melodies. They pay homage to a past great with playful melodic "cameos" from Jaco. The one song with lyrics is wonderfully written and well sung. Don't hesitate and buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Great music played by 2 bass wizards.......2000-04-29

This cd is very enjoyable, Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey show thier talent with original music played with leading bass and create a very original kind of music that can liked among jazz listeners. While Vic Wooten is probably one of the best bass players of today, mostly because of his technique, this is not a Wooten showcase of his wonderful playing abilits, in this cd Vic plays slow melodies or low grooves unlike his solo cds where his shows off his technique. This cd is very enjoyable specially for bass players or those who wants to experience bass guitar as a leading instrument in jazz fusion music.

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED ! Cosidering that this CD was registered under BAILEY I thought for sure there would be more of him on the cd. There is no comparison between this and what Victor puts out solo. The strongest part to this album was Gregg Bissonette (the drumer) For all of you BASS Hounds out there save your money and buy something Vic put out solo !

Wooten and Bailey had recorded a wonderful cd which is a must for every bass player, they take the 4 strings and the 6 strings fretless and make unbelieveable sounds and rhythems... it has it all, funk, jazz, groove! buy it!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing!.......2006-05-12

This CD was released in 1995 and the record company who released it gave me the chance to evaluate it. Laurie Z plays New Age music that will remind you of Yanni. Unfortunately, that's where all the comparisons end. I felt the CD was lethargic and didn't have much punch. It was routine and didn't give me much vibes. There are some moments, though. I enjoyed the track, "My Perfect Love". It displayed her potential with her beautiful acoustic piano playing. But then the rest of her album got too "high tech". I guess you could call it music for the times. It was released more than 10 years ago, so time has not been good to its evolvement. Laurie Z probably has some better CD's out there. Just not this one.

5 out of 5 stars Class act.......2004-07-27

I learned about Laurie Z a number of years ago when she was playing at The South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach California. She is a gracious and classy lady that plays with great skill, passion and creativity.

"Life Between the Lines" is a must have album. With both classical and new age sounds you will love it.

5 out of 5 stars Life Between The Lines - Laurie Z.......2001-03-28

Laurie Z's Life Between The Lines is one of my all time favorite CD's! I have owned that fabulous piece of work for probably 8 years and I can say it is a "timeless" CD. The variation of songs and the compositiion of each and every one is so beautiful. I never get tired of it.

I have played her music in my clothing stores , sitting down to dinner with friends, planting flowers in my garden, driving in my car. It is a must have CD!

5 out of 5 stars from Solo Piano Publications.......2000-07-17

I first discovered Laurie Z.'s music on her solo piano album, "Roots", which I love, and then worked my way backwards to her earlier work. All three albums are very different from each other, but all showcase Laurie's passion and love for what she is doing. An innovator at heart, Laurie is also a master at improvisation who always creates new music in concert from audience members's suggestions for subject and key signature. Always on the move, Laurie tours all over the country doing concerts in halls, clubs, music stores, book stores, and outdoor festivals. For many of these festivals, Laurie performs with her band, and the band is included along with Laurie's assorted synthesizers on "Life Between the Lines".

This CD includes some of my all-time favorite Laurie-tunes - the title song with its classical/rock dichotomy, the tragic "From the Diary of a Redhead", "The Mayan Wavelength", "Trouble in Paradise", "The Time Dance", the funky "A Change of Heart", as well as one of Laurie's signature pieces, "My Perfect Love". This is truly one of my favorite albums and one of my favorite artists!

5 out of 5 stars Listening to Laurie Z.: An Extraordinary Musical Journey.......2000-06-23

Have you ever wished you could express your life through music and capture all the big events, everyday moments, and inmost thoughts and feelings in a bounty of sound? Well, wish no more because keyboard genius Laurie Z. has done it for all of us with her extraordinary CD, Life Between the Lines. Listening to its magic is like meeting someone new and feeling as though they've been your best friend all your life. Every track is a gem capturing some aspect of the experiences we all share while trying to live as individuals on a crowded planet. Laurie's uncanny capacity to balance technical virtuosity with exquisite melodies and textures glows from every selection. The title track bristles with the easy grace and power of a summer sun hurling itself through the vastness of early afternoon. Running In Circles dances with all the varied moods of a long and crowded day, busy yet ultimately joyful. The song A Delicate Balance poses those questions that come to a person alone on a rainy night around 2 AM, queries about what our lives mean, how we got to be who and where we are, how we stay there, and why. The closing track, Miss You Blues, evokes the sweet longing of hearts apart even as its infectious, optimistic groove promises that love is stronger than any kind of distance. Each of these 12 tracks is its own sonic universe, at once intimately familiar and delightfully surprising to both ears and spirit. The Mayan Wavelength takes the listener on a mystical electronic jungle journey reminiscent of Laurie's acclaimed debut CD, Window to the World. My Perfect Love, a stunning, achingly beautiful piano solo, gives the listener a good idea of the marvels to be found on Laurie's latest CD, Roots. Considered for eight Grammy nominations, and engineered and co-produced by the legendary Paul Grupp (Get out your favorite music of the last 25 years. You'll probably find that Paul's played a key role in creating it.), Roots is a tour-de-force solo piano feast showcasing Laurie's intuitive gift for hauntingly beautiful melodies and powerful arrangements. Some of the tracks were even spontaneously composed in the studio, a truly prodigious feat given the sweet fire and innate rightness of her sweeping keyboard poetry.

The bottom line is this: Come, listen to the music of Laurie Z. You'll hear your own life between the lines and meet a brand new best old musical friend.

I gave these guys a listen cause a friend told me about them. It totally ROX! My friend saw these guys at a Detroit show with that band Greenwheel (those guys from the Spiderman soundtrack)and wouldnt shut up about them. Def worth checkin out!

These guys rock! With a great blend of catchy rock riffs combined with lyrics that will have you singing along after one listen, this is a great album. My wife and I used the song My Angel in our wedding. Tripper has a great range and all of the songs are radio-worthy. Do your self a favor and check these guys out!

5 out of 5 stars You must hear this CD........2002-07-14

Absolutely incredible. What an tremendous mixture of talent. You can't help but listen to it over and over and sing-along.

5 out of 5 stars This is Indie rock??.......2002-07-12

I heard about these guys through a friend in Detroit, but after getting their stuff, I was hooked. The songs are as good as anything on rock radio these days. They're one of the few bands not trying to capitalize on the hot trends in music, instead, they're churning out solid, melodic rock - they know where they fit and they do it well. As far as the songs go, "the Good Guy" captures completely that feeling all guys get when they're crazy about someone who's going out with a total jackass. From edgy, punchy stuff like "holiday", "Barefoot" and "Clearly Mistaken" - to the country-tinged "One summertime" - these guys do it all. If more people had this CD, they'd be all over the airwaves. Buy it.

    Product Description

NORTH STAR is an American quartet driven by the brothers Kevin & Glenn LEONARD. It orchestrates the marriage of EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER's virtuosity and bursting GENESIS' lyricism, thanks to the gabrielesque voice of bass player Joe NEWNAM, Kevin LEONARD's powerful keyboards and Dave JOHNSON's superb guitar parts. Created around the middle of the Seventies, the band had to wait until 1982 to print its first discographical step: "Triskelion" is now reissued by the Musea label, with a complete biography and lots of bonus-tracks. One could hear highly colourful melodies, full of power and beauty. After three most respectable albums ("Feel The Cold" in 1985, "Power" in 1992 and "Tempest" in 2000), NORTH STAR rejoined the Musea label at the most opportunate time, that of full maturity ! The concept-album "Extremes" (2005) is a strong work, undoubtedly the ultimate culmination in the bands carreer. This quartet captures the essence and the suggestive power of Seventies' GENESIS like few groups before, as far as rhythms, keyboards and vocals parts are concerned. But we are not listening to a sole impressionist, power and harmonies are not far from that of IQ ("Subterranea" album) at times, and the virtuosity of musicians enable them to reach exciting instrumental flights of fancy. Not to be missed whatsoever !

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An underrated gem.......2007-05-04

As a neophyte to North Star, I picked up this album after Tempest and Power, both of which I enjoyed. Extremes, however, is in a league of its own. The band is in top form with this album, and I think it embodies all that is good about progressive music. The music is melodic but not clichéd, and some of the keyboard segments are truly remarkable. This is also one of those rare albums that doesn't have a single weak track; you won't hit 'fast forward' with this underrated gem. Highly recommended.

    Album Description

Kathleen's powers as a storyteller are compelling. One poignant example is her sensitive reading of the seldom heard verse for Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies". An equally moving moment occurs in Kathleen's intimate limning of "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye", an exquisite duo with guitarist Rod Fleeman. In each (and, really, in all of the album's fourteen tracks), she invites us to share her innermost thoughts and emotions. Her clear diction is another asset. Did I mention that she swings? Well, in carrying on the tradition of consummate artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Kathleen phrases with dash and class. "Don't You Wonder?" is a sharply focused snapshot of where Kathleen is at in this important stage of her young career. "I want the album to show that I can handle different styles of songs, from different time periods and genres, and make them my own. I have grown musically and want this to document where I am right now. Hopefully, the listener will be open-minded and appreciate the variety." - Dr. Chuck Berg, University of Kansas, July 2003, Contributor toDownbeat, Jazztimes, Jazz Educators Journal, the Oxford Companion to Jazz, and Gramophone Guide to CD Jazz, Co-Author of The Encyclopedia of Orson Welles; National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences

3 out of 5 stars Good voice and repertoire, but production could be better.......2005-08-31

I enjoy this recording very much and I like the songs. But production could be better, you can hear that the bass player was very much involved in the recording process and the overall recording is a bit rough (but still nice). I do not like the choice of bass and drum solo's when things start to get swinging, it stops the train. A independent producer could prevent this kind of accidents.

    5 out of 5 stars Don't You Wonder.......2003-11-06

Not only is the original(artist composed) title tune a heart wrenching ballad - but I was also impressed by a couple of other tunes: What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life - the "love song" from the movie Happy Ending, which has a dynamic lyric, as well as melodic excellence - and done so well by Ms. Holeman. I also enjoyed, I Don't Wanna Set the World On Fire - for it's classy tongue-in-cheek rendition. And the upbeat arrangement of That's All, which had historically been regarded as a "down" ballad, was a real treat. Kathleen also seems to have been able to evoke the best of spirits from her "sidemen." I only wish I coud've been in the studio to share the warmth of such a "one for all" effort! And if you're a sports fan, don't miss the Baseball song.

Aside from the obvious - this lady has lotsa class!!!

Opposite Extremes is the second full-length disc from Madison, WI's STOCHASTIC THEORY, blending influences from everywhere from NEW ORDER to MESH to THE POSTAL SERVICE. This is electro-pop with an indie-rock edge, balancing dancefloor appeal with increasingly complex rhythms and arrangements accompanied by project founder Chuck Spencer's introspective lyrics. Featuring 10 new tracks, including a cover of R.E.M.'s classic 'Losing My Religion' and club remixes by Stochastic Theory and Caustic, Opposite Extremes begins where ST's breakout debut 'Soliloquy' left off - exploring themes of isolation, frustration, and uncertainty while picking up the pieces of a broken heart and a broken life. Far beyond the constraints of your typical ''synthpop'', Stochastic Theory is an increasingly original act on the electronic forefront and is steadily building a following thanks to inclusion on high profile live bills including ASSEMBLAGE 23, ICON OF COIL, and STROMKERN. SENSUOUS ENEMY, & CTRLSHFT.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Introspective, poetic and highly danceable! .......2006-11-09

For those seeking underground EBM/Synthpop music that will keep you dancing, go to the artists website to sample some of these highly creative songs. The lyrics are poetically appealing while avoiding any self pity in spite of the heartbreak of the thematic contents. More amazingly is how this artist was able to self-harmonize on all the tracks, singing in various ranges and octaves, making this release sound as though it had a bevy of backup vocalists. Do seek this one out, you won't be disappointed!
