The songs in this album are global in scope: inspirations I've felt while living in, or visiting, nine different countries: Scotland, Romania, Ireland, England, Italy, Israel, India, The United States of America, and Egypt. The world is one, though the languages and characteristics of its peoples vary widely. The common thread in these songs is the fact that it was I who "filtered" those inspirations. It would be misleading to say that I wrote them. I merely asked for the words and music, and then listened. This album is a selection of what I heard.

Mormon Tabernacle and Vocal Majority.......2006-11-10

This has got to be one of the most incredible musical presentations that I've ever experienced. These two groups together in concert effect more joy, sorrow, remorse, nostalgia, victory, hope and power in 30 minutes that most of us experience in years. Amazing!

Great Music.......2001-01-19

With the incredible proliferation of rock, and now rap music, this album is a great example of what music can me - simply beautiful. The MTC is, as always, splendid, and the Vocal Majority is truly wonderful. This a great album of sacred and secular songs, beautifully performed, and a genuine pleasure to hear.

two excellent choral ensembles strut their stuff.......1999-02-16

This CD features two renowned groups in some of their best work. The MTC, of course [of chorus], is known around the world. Vocal Majority is less global in its familiarity but equal in its skill. For my part, I prefer the sound of an all-male ensemble. This is not to gainsay the MTC, however: only a preference. If you want to hear two great groups performing a popular array of songs, this choice will not disappoint.

Moravian songs, via Janacek, Godar, Bittova and Skampa.......2006-05-09

This is a unique recording of Janacek's transcriptions of Moravian folk songs. Originally for piano and voice, they have been transcribed by Slovak composer Vladimir Godar for string quartet and (occasionally) three-voice male chorus. Here they are performed by renowned Czech singer and violinist Iva Bittova, accompanied by the Skampa Quartet and chorus. The effect is not so much of classical liede, but of authentic eastern European "popular" songs - the sonority of the string quartet adds to this in no small part. Janacek would be proud.

I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into when I bought this CD. I love Janacek, I love folk songs... how could I go wrong? Iva Bittova! I was concerned that she would have a 50yr old woobly voice, but instead what exists is a thin VERY nasal tone... perhaps she should be singing traditional Bulgarian music! The voice is expressive, just ugly.
The recording quality is not very good, either. On many of the tracks, Iva seems to be muffled and in the background of the recording.
Really - dont waste your time and money, unless you really would just like to have a recording of over 50 Janacek songs.

Wonderfully sweet and joyful music.......2006-07-30

The music on this CD will relax you and uplift you - no matter what mood you're in, happy or sad! I have many of J. Donald Walters CDs and never tire of them. His compositions are simple, yet lovely, tunes that go right to the heart with pleasure and ease. I highly recommend all of them. This one contains all vocals, and they are delightful. If you prefer instrumentals, try Secrets of Love or I Omar. They are great as background music for work, reading, meditation, and are favorites of co-workers in the office.
