As an accomplished musician and performer, Philip Fortenberry has built an impressive list of credits during his career. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Coming from humble beginnings, Philip views his musical brilliance as a gift. He began playing piano at age four and by seven was pianist for his church in Columbia, Mississippi. He cultivated a background in classical music and continued to study when he moved to New York City. Early in his career, Philip was musical director and on-stage pianist for the popular off-Broadway revue, "Forbidden Broadway". Later he was musical supervisor for the West End version of the show in London. Philip has also played for several Broadway productions and national tours, including "Ragtime", "Sideshow", "Cats", "Jesus Christ Superstar", and "Saturday Night Fever". Philip has been featured in Lincoln Center's "Meet the Artists" series and in 1990, before a nationwide television audience, he accompanied internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Frederica VonStade at the White House for the Summit Conference between George Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev. He also performed at the United Nations' 40th Anniversary Celebration and in 1996 accompanied the late Broadway star, Laurie Beechman, aht the 70th birthday celebration for Lady Margaret Thatcher in Washington, D.C. As a solo artist, Philip is a captivating performer. Through his music, you'll journey through a variety of musical styles, from classical to Broadway to traditional and inspirational. You'll warm to the familiar and delight at his creative arrangements and original works. Philip's exceptional talent, unassuming style and winsome ways offer audiences an unforgettable entertainment experience that heads straight for the heart.

Out of the Woods is the first solo album from Tracey Thorn for over two decades. The British public probably know Thorn best as the voice of Everything but the Girl's "Missing," the Todd Terry mix of which hit No. 3 in 1994 and hung around in the Billboard Top 100 for over a year. That huge hit, however, is somewhat deceptive in the context of Thorne and her partner Ben Watt's 25-year career. Out of the Woods, like much Everything but the Girl before it, is a set of torch songs versed in the production techniques of clubland, but shot through with a melancholy soul more familiar to jazz or folk-rock--or, indeed, cosmic disco pioneer Arthur Russell, whose "Get Around to It" Thorne covers here, and all but makes it her own. Lyrically, events hint at a certain domesticity: "Nowhere Near" is a delicate song about motherhood sung over shimmering synths, piano, and pipes, while "Hands Up to the Ceiling" seems to be about finding sanctuary in a record collection, Thorne sneaking to an attic to spin "Siouxsie Sioux, and Edwin too/Bobby D, in '63." Those eager for Thorn to reprise "Missing," however, maybe be satisfied by "Grand Canyon" and the closing "Raise the Roof," two potential club hits in the waiting. --Louis Pattison

Customer Reviews:
Welcome back Tracey!.......2007-07-17
After 5 years I thought Tracey had retired but it turns out she has been busy. I can understand reviewers who said it sounds nothing like the old Tracey. This is her debut solo album and while reminiscent of the best of Everything But the Girl she now has a distict confident and masterful new sound all her own that is, in my opionion, outstanding!! She also has some of the best producers(Ewan Pearson, Charles Webster...) around adding their own style to the mixes.
My favorites are "Its All True" and "Easy" easily the records highlights.
Highly recommend
a masterpiece of pop music...........2007-06-23
I can't say enough great things about this album. I've always been a huge fan of Tracey Thorn's voice, and EBTG, and this has become one of my absolute favorite albums. Don't miss this!
Return to form for Tracey Thorn.......2007-06-10
Worth the wait ! Its great to hear a singer who doesn't need to try too hard to own her own space, and add to this the vision and talent to effortlessly switch between basic acoustic arrangements and electronic house.
Listen to this a few times to realise that simple pop songs will always find a way of lodging themselves in your brain. Stand out tracks include 'Its All True', 'Easy', 'Raise the Roof', and the superb club anthem (to be) 'Grand Canyon' ....which demands a Deep Dish remix. My only request is that we dont have to wait so long for the next album !
more sophisticated electronica..........2007-06-05
Tracey Thorn has been on the cusp of the electronic music scene since I first started paying attention to her in the mid-nineties. This album is no exception. The music sounds very fresh, though owes a heavy debt to the revived "electro" sound, now very much in vogue. I'm happy she mostly steers clear of overly predictable "House" beats in lieu of a slightly left-field sound. Regardless, the bass runs deep, the synths are sexy and Thorn's voice still haunts. This a very good album.
Out On Her Own.......2007-06-01
It took a while, over 20 years to be exact, for Thorn to put out what is only her second solo album. Out of the Woods is expectedly electronic but contains great references to an era we so love called the 80s. Therefore, in between the electronic bleeps and reverberations, there is an irresistible air of familiarity in the catchy retro hooks as demonstrated in the fantastic first single It's All True. Stylish yet reminiscent, the single is a perfect oath to the 80s dance floor. Other glorious tracks include the UNKLE-influenced Easy, the more futuristic EBTG-electro track Grand Canyon and the cooing closer Raise The Roof. A welcome break from the front woman of EBTG. (A)

This compilation of music by Dvorak played by Yo-Yo Ma is just beautiful. Ma seems to understand just when Dvorak wants to be super-Romantic and sappy and when he is in fact being merely his usual expressive self. The former comes into bloom with the Slavonic Dance, in which he's accompanied by Itzhak Perlman and "Songs My Mother Taught Me," with Patricia Zander at the piano. But when it comes to revealing Dvorak as one of the most insightful and truly passionate of composers, with a particular understanding of the cello, Ma's playing of the B minor Concerto (under Kurt Masur, with the New York Philharmonic), the latter description comes into play. Ma gets every nuance out of the cello, and the way in which Masur, for instance, leads the winds against the cello at the start of the 2nd movement is just gorgeous. "Klid" ("Silent Woods") is given a deeply affecting reading as well, under Seiji Ozawa. 2004 is the 100th anniversary of Dvorak's death; this CD is fine tribute. --Robert Levine
Customer Reviews:
Yo-Yo Ma is a genius .......2004-11-16
words fail me on how to describe performance in this CD.It's very good, one of the best interpretations I have heard in a very long time. I must confess that since i discovered Ma du Pre I have not been able to listen to anything else nor did I attempt to do so. But out of the blue I bumped into this CD by chance & after hearing Yo Yo Ma's phraising especially the 1st movement infact the whole of Dvorak Cello was like something new to me.Ma plays with passion, emotions & strong commitment to the music in a different way.The Ochestra is in top form & allows the solo cello to shine at the right time.I never thought there is another interpretation that could surpass M.Rostropovich(Im sorry to say this I know he is a living legend & the 1969 record with Karajan is held in high esteem). Ma is accompanied by my favourate violinist Itzhak Perlman on "Humosresque no.7 for piano" & "Slavonic Dance no.10 in E minor"- the results are so sweet as many people know Perlman is a romantic specialist his tone with Ma's cello is heavenly. With regard to the "songs my mother taught me" the cello sounds good not best for the track personally im so used to hear the song being played on violin. There's nothing wrong with the cello it's just that it 's tone is a bit too strong for the composition but it's very well interpreted by Ma. They call this transcription in musical terms. Actually Ma deserves an apology as im one of those who have accused him of lacking in emotions &"look at me now i can play anything" attitude.I think those allegations are baseless & unwarranted when u hear this CD u will know u are into something beautiful. Overall grab this very fast before many people realise Yo-Yo Ma 's greatest gift of song.

Amazon.com essential recording
As conceived by Stephen Sondheim and cocreator James Lapine (following their Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George), Into the Woods tells the intricate tale of multiple fairy-tale characters crossing paths in the woods, not merely resolving the characters' dilemmas but also exploring what happens after happily ever after. Sondheim's chamber-scale music, recipient of the 1987 Tony for Best Score, is one of his most beautiful and accessible, and is at its most poignant in "No More," "No One Is Alone," and "Children Will Listen." The original Broadway cast is outstanding top to bottom, most notably Bernadette Peters as a rapping witch and Joanna Gleason, who won a Tony for Best Actress. The CD booklet includes production photos and--so important for a Sondheim show--full lyrics. Fortunately, this cast was also captured on video and DVD. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
Good classic recording.......2007-06-16
Well worth the money for Bernadette Peters's performance as the Witch. However, not all the minor characters are as good, and I feel the London Cast is a more rounded recording in terms of quality. I feel that all the available cast recordings for Into The Woods are lacking in some way or another, but it is a hard show to do, so it is understandable.
Into the Woods (remastered).......2007-05-12
I first seen this musical on a local television station that was doing a pledge drive. I instantly fell in love with it. I think for one reason was cause i love fairy tales. and combining all our favorite fairy tales into one story was a awesome idea. I wrote the station asking them once a month when they were goign to re-air the program. they told me they might re-air it one day when it fit into their schedual. I can see/hear why Joanna Gleason won a Tony for her performance and it was amazing. I love all the songs on this CD but my favorites are as followed:
I Guess this is Goodbye/Maybe They're magic
I Know Things Now
It Takes Two
Stay with Me
On the Steps of the Palace
Lament
Any Moment/Moments in the Woods*
Your Fault/Last Midnight*
No one is Alone
Children will Listen
(* means Favorite)
I love all these songs for diffrent reason.
the Bonus tracks are very kewl. I love Kim Crosby's (the Original and only Cinderella for me) vocals on Back to the Palace. It is like she never left the character and the emotion is there. Boom crunch is my favorite of the bous tracks cause it is something i have always wanted to hear since i found out it was cut from the show.
Get Into Into the Woods .......2007-04-06
This CD was my trial for the greatcomposer Stephen Sondheim. I had wanted to know his style before I went to see his movie, Sweeny Todd, (Starring Johnny Depp and Directed By Tim Burton). I had heard that this was a great buy. I gritted my teath and bought it. I knew that people said he had a different style, but I had no idea was lying instore.
AMAZING! It was absolutely stunning! I loved the CD. It was beautiful. My Mom has not developed a liking to it, and it is very sharped and flatted (Like on a piano)But beautiful. I compare it to the wonderful musical Dreamgirls, because you love it or hate it. Just as in the way that HEnry reiger used the voices to sing and not so much music; Stephen does the same thing. Like in GIANTS IN THE SKY the actopr sings one note and the piano plays a flatted or sharped version. Ity is wonderful. The Best songs are:
PROLOGUE INTO THE WOODS
EVER AFTER
HELLO LITTLE GIRL
I KNOW THING NOW
GIANTS IN THE SKY
ACT 2 PROLOGUE
YOUR FAULT
FINALE PEOPLE WILL LISTEN
BONUS TRACKS!
GIANTS IN THE SKY
BUY THIS CD! WONDERFUL AND AMAZING!!!! BEtter than the LION KING
Great sound - thin book(let).......2007-04-01
This remaster sounds wonderful. The booklet should include the lyrics and the liner notes are just poor - uninformative and fawning. However the bonus tracks are terrific, alternate lyrics for a children's version and one cut by John Cameron Mitchell before he bloomed into Hedwig (here he's Jack).
Sondheim's most beloved musical.......2007-03-31
Of all Stephen Sondheim's musicals, INTO THE WOODS is certainly his most popular and beloved work. During it's 1987 premiere, the show introduced a whole new generation to the magic of Broadway. The original cast is still definitive, and the cast album is one of the all-time classics.
The story weaves together the familiar childhood characters Cinderella, Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Little Red Ridinghood, and Rapunzel; and explores their stories beyond the "Happily Ever After" ending. Whilst Act One is full of delights and pretty much tells the stories as we remember them, Act Two presents a darker and harrowing portrait as the characters, without the help of the Narrator, attempt to rid the kingdom of a Giant on the warpath...
The original cast is still definitive, headed by Joanna Gleason (in a Tony-winning performance) as the Baker's Wife. Her character holds the entire story together, and she reaches a heartbreaking climax with "Moments in the Woods", one of the most beautiful, tenderly-comical songs ever written for a musical. Bernadette Peters plays the Witch, who magically transforms from ugliness to beauty at the end of Act One. Peters brings a lot of gleeful comedy and schtick to the role, particularly in the "Witch's Rap", but also tugs at the heart during the "Lament"; and she gets to belt a frenzied 11 o'clock number, "Last Midnight".
The supporting cast is equally first-rate, with Kim Crosby's crystalline soprano perfectly suited to the high-flown and beautifully-drawn Cinderella; Ben Wright as Jack; and Danielle Ferland's feisty and funny Little Red Ridinghood. Chip Zien brings a lot of depth and feeling to the role of the Baker, and Robert Westenberg skillfully handles the dual roles of Cinderella's Prince and the Wolf.
This is probably Sondheim's most accessible score, but it's a deceptively-difficult one. The music is presented in a chamber-style, with emphasis on piano and strings. The entire score as a whole is fabulous, but highlights would have to include "On the Steps of the Palace", where Cinderella contemplates meeting her Prince again; "Giants in the Sky" where Jack reveals his adventures with the beanstalk; and "No More", where the Baker and his estranged father unite in their grief.
This reissue of the 1987 Original Broadway Cast has been crisply-remastered with three bonus demo songs, from a proposed children's version of the musical ("Back to the Palace", "Boom Crunch", and a re-written "Giants in the Sky").
INTO THE WOODS opened on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre on November 5, 1987, and ran for 765 performances.

Power of Words.......2007-07-06
The encouragement, hope and reminders that this artist give to the listeners in his songs are outstanding or simply great. The song "Let Go Let God" moves me everytime I hear it. This song has taught me to believe and continue to have faith. I wish I had this in my collection long before now.
Overall A Good CD.......2007-07-03
When I first heard Let Go and Let God on the radio it spoke to me. God knew just what I needed at that moment. I fell in love with it. Last week I got a chance to see Dewayne Woods perform at my church. It was powerful to be in his presence and to hear his testimony. Of course live will always sound better for any artist. But if we can get past the surface and allow the words of the songs to penetrate our hearts we will never be the same. I think Dewayne did a fabulous job for a first cd. I love the song God is as well. I brought the CD and I am encouraging others to do the same. I know the next will only get better.
Great CD.......2007-05-30
I listen to this CD daily. It is so uplifting and apporpriate for whatever your current situation is.

I heard "Remedy" once on the radio and went right to I-tunes and listened to more of her album. I love her voice, music and style. I'm sold.
It Will Stir Your Spirit!.......2007-04-11
I enjoy "life-filled" music, and this album certainly fits the bill. I'm also very picky, so not every artist gains my approval. I not only enjoy the vocals and the styles of music in the album, which vary quite nicely, but the lyrics are equally as incredible. The song, Big Enough, is my absolute favorite. Every time I hear it, I'm reminded that nothing is too big for God. This one will wake you up in the morning and get your feet moving, for sure.
a different kinda' music.......2007-03-16
I wasn't too wild about the cd at first. I bought it because of two songs that I heard on christian radio. After listening to it a few times it really grew on me and now I love it.
I just got the cd.......2007-03-14
Just recieved the Cd in the mail. And I love it! It's a cross for me between India Arie, and Nelly Frutado on a few songs. Yet she has her own style in most others. I personally have found my new favourite Gospel artist
D. & T. Sloan: Ayiesha Woods ' Versatility in Praise.......2007-03-09
We purchased this CD based on another Amazon.com customer review. We like a variety in praise and worship music and listen to a broad range of artists including, Fred Hammond, Israel & New Breed, Joanne Risario through to Phillips-Craig & Dean,Cindy Morgan along with Messianic Hebrew praise and worship and found Ayiesha Woods to fit wonderfully into our collection. Some consider her to be the Indie Arie of this type of praise genre based on her ability to show versatility in her variant musical and lyrical styles of music. Her sometimes raspy edge compliments her ability to sing along side Toby Mac on the favored titled song, "Big Enough" and to also tackle a song utilizing the rythmic island sounds of her Jamaican origin flavor to the also favored, "Crazy". This CD has a little 'somethin - somethin' for every listener. Our personal favorite is "Crazy", first because of its to the point message and second because of its bold sound and statement to keep The Word of Our Heavenly Father and apply It literally as His Set Apart Spirit intended, even if they think you're CRAZY. We recommend this CD for both the adult and teenage audience.

wonderful.......2007-07-22
These CD's were wonderful. When I drive in the Sierra Nevada mountians I want something peaceful but not boring. I love, love, love it.
Repackaged New Year's Concert 1984 with VPO, etc........2005-02-23
If I'm not mistaken, most of the pieces were recorded originally live during a 1984 New Year's Concert conducted by Lorin Maazel with the Vienna Philharmonic playing in its grand concert hall, the Musikverein. Maazel and the Vienna Philharmonic have had a longstanding relationship dating from the 1960's, and without question, this CD does rank among my favorite New Year's Concert performances (However, the most mesmerizing ones I've heard have been those with the late Carlos Kleiber and Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting.) for the superb quality of the Vienna Philharmonic's playing. Maazel leads the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in some of the most popular works composed by the Strauss family, most notably Johann II Strauss' Tales from the Vienna Woods Waltz, Emperor Waltz, Pizzicato Polka, Blue Danube Waltz and his father's Radetzky March, which traditionally closes out the annual New Year's Concert. Fans of the Strauss family, Vienna Philharmonic and Lorin Maazel, will not be disappointed with this excellent two CD compilation.
I am glad I bought this one.......2003-04-25
I listen to this cd to relax and it is so soothing. It starts with The blue Danube, which is my favorite. But the rest of the songs do not disapoint.
Great Music as usual.......2002-10-08
This is great recording,
I enjoy listening to it
veru much. This is a
compilation of all the
favorite waltzes by
the Strauss family, that
one might hear at a
New Year's eve concert
of the Vienna Philharmonic...
All waltzes and Polkas are
favorites of audiences everywhere
in the world...
A gem!.......2001-10-29
Who else knows Strauss better than Viennese? I attest that no other orchestra in the world plays Strauss better than the Vienna Philharmonic. Their light sound is exactly what the composer wanted, and it really makes other clumsy, heavy attempts by some other orchestras like Berlin and Chicago seem pathetic.
As far as the content of these CDs go, they are fantastic. They have every waltz, march, and polko of Strauss II that you could possibly want, as well as a nice addition of "Radetzky March" by the composer's father. If you are looking for a Johann Strauss Jr. CD, get this one!

Customer Reviews:
Children's Favorites a solid purchase.......2006-03-09
This CD mostly delivered what was expected of it. The only critique I have is that some of the tempos could have been cleaner, and that it should be cross-referenced by the other composers besides J. S. Bach.
The perfect package.......2005-10-23
This is the most wonderful collection to have on 1 CD. Children from birth on up can benefit from this musical collage.
Songs from the "Nutcracker" are familiar and comfortable for many children. What child wouldn't love "March of the Tin Soldiers?"
Selections from Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals" is a must in my creative movement library. Every child should be exposed to this music. Well,I believe every age should be.
A Wonderful Introduction to the Classics.......2003-03-11
With total playing time clocking in at 78:04 minutes of music, you'll be paying about 6-cents/minute, which is a better bargain than long distance phone calls, and often more rewarding!
This disc is far superior than most other "Classics for Kids"-type recordings I've sampled for a number of reasons:
1) This album was expertly engineered. The production quality on this disc is first-rate from start to finish with crisp, clear sound.
2) The pieces were expertly picked. There is wonderful sonic variety here, spanning hundreds of years of wonderful melodies. There are orchestral pieces, harpsichord pieces, solo piano, and a piano concerto, capped off with Saint-Seans whimsical Carnival of the Animals. What kid (or adult) wouldn't love that?
3) The performances are, without exeption, expert! The pieces were definately screened for quality as well as content. Many are simply a joy to behold. Walter Klein is a particular stand-out, almost giddily prancing through Schumann's pieces. Believe it or not, he sounds even more impressive when backed up by the always inspiring Minnesota Orchestra on Mozart's Piano Concerto #17.
In short, this album is a great album even before you factor in the great price. You and your children are almost guaranteed to enjoy every 6-cents worth!

Jump (or be forced) directly into the three-plus hour DVD on this a/v split release for footage of Josh Homme and band on the stage in London during the hottest months of 2005. There are plenty of behind-the-scenes shots of the ever revolving group. Foo Fighter Dave Grohl pops up. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons pulls a cameo. It's all here. Key performances include "No One Knows," "Little Sister," "Burn The Witch," plus smoking versions of "Fun Machine" and "I Wanna Make It Wit Chu" (from Desert Sessions Vol. 9 & 10). The audio-only disc provides listeners with 75 minutes of pure QotSA including a powerhouse reading of "I Think I Lost My Headache" and an appropriately ragged "Long Slow Goodbye." This often strange picture is a fine fitting snapshot. --Jedd Beaudoin
Album Description
You can think of this feature-length concert DVD/live album, which features all the crucial Queens hits from their studio albums, as a "to go" version of their decibel-happy shows, but that really won't be doing the three and a half hours of live, rare, and acoustic performances and behind-the-scenes footage of the band and their pals like Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan, Billy Gibbons, and former Queens bassist Nick Olivieri making fools of themselves, justice.
It might help to think of Over the Years as a 21st-century version of Led Zeppelin's The Song Remains the Same for the volume of its material, or even A Hard Day's Night for its willingness to show the Queens having a laugh, but they'd rather you see and hear it for what it really is--the definitive encapsulation of the band and their music from their not-so-humble beginnings to their current status as one of the rock's biggest and most dynamic acts.
Included in the concert footage from the band's sold-out Brixton Academy and Koko shows in London last summer are live favorites from Rated R and Songs for the Deaf such as "No One Knows," "Feel Good Hit of the Summer," and "Go with the Flow," as well as new Queens classics from their latest album Lullabies to Paralyze like the smash single "Little Sister" and their most recent bombshell, "Burn the Witch." In addition to the three-plus hours of live and uncut Queens mayhem, Over the Years also boasts 75 minutes of audio bliss that covers all the bases Queens fans need to get the rush of their favorite songs performed live and loud shot directly into their homes.
Also included are the brand-new track "Fun Machine" as well as "Make It Wit Chu," a previously unreleased gem from singer Josh Homme's fabled Desert Sessions, an ongoing series of collaborative songwriting and recording sessions where marquee musicians such as PJ Harvey and Deen Ween are invited down to his studio Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California, to join him in collectively exploring new musical terrain.

To Grandmothers house we go...........2007-03-16
Being an avid fan of QOTSA I was rather excited to listen to this album and watch the DVD because of the great track listing. Overall everything is awesome, with one exception, I have a really hard time enjoying it only because Joey Castillo is going at a little bit of a faster tempo than the songs originally should be at, to me it's very noticeable and it drive me nuts! I just want to yell at him sloooow down a little and it will be perfect. That is the only reason why I did not give it five stars. Other than that this set is awesome, great DVD to watch with lots of great extras and great cameo's as well. And the album is a great summer album, makes you wanna be gettin with the love! Oh one more thing...Nick Oliveri needs to be back in the band again, that guy is SICK(Sick as in really really good)!!!
AMAZING! LAS REINAS SON LO MEJOR!.......2006-03-18
If you love QOTSA, like i do, you must buy this DVD. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!! LAS REINAS DE LA EDAD DE PIEDRA SON LO MEJOR!!!
One heck of a mind-f***!.......2006-02-01
As far as QOTSA albums go, it's okay. The songs are fresh-sounding (which is something I don't always find with live albums) but the real item being showcased here is the concert DVD. Impeccably trippy. It adds a completely enthralling element to the already rocking music and let's you relax and such with the band in a sort of intimate way. I definitely recommend this to hardcore QOTSA fans but I'm not sure the average joe would appreciate it as much as I did.
A Falling Experience!.......2006-01-28
Despite Worries, I Knew the disc will be a valued part of my collection.
When I finally decided to purchase this DVD I was a little worried. ( I owned songs for the deaf, and downloaded every single, and a whole bunch of random songs.) I didnt know if an entire DVD would entertain me. I saw them recently on tour, And they are Incredible. The live accuracy of the (ever-evolving) band was perfect. You hear almost EXACTLY what they have on their studio recordings.
Luckily, their album sounds, and live show COLLIDES into this wonderful set of discs.
During the first batch of songs("Flow" through "little sister") I felt like all I did was spend $15 bucks. But at some point I finally realised I was completely engrossed. A Perfect balance of familiarity and Improv. And of course, the DVD goes on for TONS of songs after that!. I Wish I could come up with a fault of this recording. But there isn't any. Great Sound, Good Song selection, Awesome Visual/Angle Imagery.
It also has alot of Hilarous crowd interaction and Clips
If your just skimming this review, This is a Great DVD/CD set. The Sound Quality is listenable, not like cheap LIVE recordings. PERFECT for putting on in the background. And ABSOLUTELY AMAZING to sit down and watch with the lights dimmed, maybe a couple drinks. = )
one of better music dvd's i own.......2006-01-14
this is definately a must have for any QOTSA fans. they play stuff off of every album but play more off of the s/t and songs for the deaf than anything else. luckily they don't play much off of rated r (that album is definately the weak link). the sound quality is fantastic so don't be worried about that. it's got a bunch of bonus stuff when nick was still in the band.
the only reason why i only gave this 4 stars is because it was basically only one show with only one line up. i really would have liked to get better recordings (and better camera angles) of their older shows. oh well.
hopefully a kyuss dvd will eventually make it's way to shelves.

The very, very best Johann Strauss Jr. recordings.......2006-08-14
No orchestra in the world has ever known how to play the waltzes of Johann Strauss Jr. as well as the Wiener Philharmoniker . . . and no conductor has ever led the Philharmoniker in this repertoire in as perfect a Strauss style as Willi Boskovsky (the orchestra's long-time concertmaster). The sine qua non of Strauss playing, the famous Viennese lilting afterbeats (where the second of the three beats of the waltz tempo comes infinitesimally early, rather than in strict time) is here. Tempos perfectly "in the groove" are here. Accept no substitutes: in this repertoire, this combination of performers is the absolute gold standard.
