This is not the typical example of an artist from another genre jumping on the crowded standards-and-ballads bandwagon. When I Fall in Love instead represents an instrumental stylist busting out of a box to find a much more suitable platform for his craft. These tracks are the fruits of an obvious labor of love for everyone from the featured musicians to the arrangers to the engineers. The arrangers, particularly Billy Childs and Gil Goldstein, give Botti's trumpet a broad-brushed orchestral backdrop that allows him to emerge from the swirling strings and bouncy horns with bold strokes of creative improvising. Some tracks are obvious nods to Gil Evans and the lush arrangements of 1970s CTI recordings. Even the guest vocalists, Sting and Paula Cole, let his trumpet sing first before their respective cues on "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets" and "What'll I Do." The only blemish here is the obvious attempt at smooth jazz airplay with Sade's "No Ordinary Love." --Mark Ruffin

People amaze me.....and oneday hopefully..they WON'T.......2007-08-05
This guy is awesome..I need not say more, but I'm gunna. I'm totally laughing at the reviews, particualry because Chris added a rendition of Sade's "No Ordinary Love". OMG, the song is so beautiful, just as "Ever Since We Met" is on ATKD. I understand how and why artist get jaded, when their efforts aren't well recieved when they do great work...example (Chante Moore), but I digress. Their really isn't in my awesome opinion to much critque about this Chris Botti's work. I'm pretty sure these are the same people that hate the company APPPLE and their products..Well guess what ," The intelligent crowd is always smaller than the mainstream" My question is..Where do you land? All you psudeo critics I compare to the "Holier Than Thou" crowd, whom make me shout "Let's here it for SIN!". Chris is awesome, although his first cd "First Wish" was tad on the SNUZ side. However, the day I find fault in one of his new cd's.... call me and I'll eat my words as we do lunch on the moon.

Chris Botti is spectacular. What a great talent. This CD is so far my favorite, but then I still have not heard all of his. It is so romantic, peaceful, and happy. I love it.
Great music for that special relaxing mood !.......2007-06-13
I bought this CD for my husband (he is a big Smooth Jazz lover). After I heard it I thought the CD was so romantic and it just set the mood for a fine relaxing evening for the two of us. Guess I'm now a Smooth Jazz lover.

Another great USA single edition.......2007-07-26
Andy & Vince are back in action with ICFILWY, good mixes (especially the radio edit of Jeremy Wheatley) and a good b-side. You won't be dissapointed with this cd-single!!!
A Happy Uptempo Song........2007-07-03
I could dance all night with this song. Pure Erasure. Get it if you have not own this one. Remixes are great.
the beats keep goin'.......2007-06-12
Lots of value here. Great, upbeat and addictive song offered in various incarnations to satisfy your individual tastes. Erasure maintains their finger on the pulse of what sounds really good and keeps the feet tapping. They've quite simply mastered the art of the perfect electro-pop song, as evidenced by this savory morsel of a single.
Great single!.......2007-05-12
I love the new song! The mixes are just as good, if not a little better than the album version. The album mix is pure classic Erasure stuff, and if you love Erasure you will be so glad! I am eagerly awaiting the new full length cd in May!
They've Still Got It............2007-05-10
What can I say? "I Could Fall in Love With You" is the kind of giddy, up-beat, care-free music that caused me to fall in love with the music of Erasure 20 years ago. But the really cool part is that the technical quality of this new single is, as usual, slightly ahead of contemporary. Electronica has come along way since "Speak and Spell" and "Wonderland", and with the notable exception of "Loveboat", Vince has always been ahead of the rest. Furthermore, in my humble opinion, Andy's vocals have never been more energetic. I'm counting the days until I receive the complete album, and I'm looking forward to more remixes.

Smooth Ride.......2007-02-20
This album is a nice, smooth ride all the way through. If you like slow jams from back in the early '90's, then this one is probably already in your collection. If not, and you're looking to add some more slow jams into your iPod, this is a good CD to rip some tracks. "Together Forever" is a popular song played in weddings from the '90's, and "If I Ever Fall In Love" is a slow jam classic, with two versions (a capella and w/ music) on this album. "Comforter" is also another one that will make it on your date night drive, and "Baby, I'm Yours" is probably another one that will bring back some nostalgic thoughts. If you're a youngster (under 20's), then you probably didn't hear Shai unless you were introduced to it by someone that was a fan from the '90's. But, this album is good enough to catch present-day fans as well. If you like Boyz II Men, New Edition, and other male R&B groups that specializes in slow jams, this is a good album to add to your collection.

Got myspace?? Search & Add Shai.
"Sexual Interlude" opens the CD nicely with the best use of a saxophone over an 808 drum kit and 3 piano chords ever done. A must for any night-cap situation. The male spoken-word voice makes a great treat for you ladies. Great opener for the album. THe rest of the album only gets better with amazing 808-jazz from Carl "Groove" Martian with the likes of "Comforter", the Title track (remix and original), "Sexual", "Together Forever", "Waiting For The Day" being obvious highlights. Definately ahead of its time and till this day, hasn't been duplicated. One poster said they didn't rival Boyz II Men. Hmm.. I wonder if were talking about the same group. While I don't prfess these guys to outright outdo Boyz II Men, but even Boyz II Men would be hard pressed to try and duplicate the rich barritone harmonies of this super-group. This CD is timeless and would even be relivant today with R&B infusing 808 into their songs but not quite pulling it off like Shai did 15 years ago. This CD is a MUST have!! I highly recommend.
Yeeah!.......2006-02-25
This cd is really good. I LOVE "Comforter"! I can listen to that song over and over again.
Smooth 1992 debut.......2005-03-21
After the sucess of Boyz II Men, the early nineties show a slew of four part harmony infused R&B groups, 97 % of the groups had some sort of sucess and Shai is no expection. The harmony on the CD can't rival Boyz II Men but it's still smooth and lush in it's own right. Stand out tracks include Sexual, Comforter, Together Forever, the title track and Baby I'm Yours.

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

The team of composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick came up with only six shows--but what shows! In addition to the phenomenally successful Fiddler on the Roof, aficionados usually gush about 1963's She Loves Me and 1959's Fiorello!. The latter turned a not particularly appetizing topic--the years leading to Fiorello LaGuardia's election as mayor of New York--into a great musical. (It even won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, only the third musical to do so.) Harnick and Bock's versatility was in evidence as they wrote numbers in every Broadway style: novelty, ballad (about sweatshops), duet (the absurdly catchy and funny "Marie's Law"), and, of course, a rousing number that doesn't really fit anywhere but is so good that it simply must be included (Eileen Rodgers's "Gentleman Jimmy"). This may be one of the wittiest, most melodic shows you've never heard. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
Fiorello.......2007-03-09
Great music. Only; I wish I had a DVD of the show.....
A sleeper of the first order.......2007-03-06
Fiorello is a very dark comedy about the corrupt back-room politics, croneyism, and skulduggery surrounding Fiorello laGuardia's political career. Oh, and there's a romance thrown in. "Politics and Poker" in particular has a timely poignancy in light of the runup to the 2008 elections with Clinton, Obama, and -um - whoever the heck else is on the Democrat wanna-be list. I have to think there are some pretty stark parallels here. But then, that's what this timeless, delightful sleeper of an operetta is all about.
A new York-centric non-hit .......2006-11-15
This never rose to the level of a 'hit'. At this time (2006) it is dated
technically and artisticly. It didn't win in '59, there is little hope that it will be remembered fondly in '06.
In the end I bought it for archival purposes only and I'm being kind.
Laguardia isn't just an airport.......2006-08-07
Fiorello! was basically a play about New York City's great mayor, Fiorello Laguardia, that was turned into a musical by having an overture and 14 songs. Long ago, back in the late 1950s, I saw it as a child and really liked it - I've always wondered what it would be like to hear it again. Well, it is nothing less than spectacular! It has the best song about politcal corruption (!) ever written, Little Tin Box; a great song about a broken date, Marie's Law; a lyrical paean to back-room politics, Politics and Poker; and 11 others, all equally good (in fact, there's not a single dud in the score - as you would expect since it was written by the writers who did Fiddler on the Roof). The voices are great, the lyrics are all to the point, the music is unforgettable, and, for all those who don't know the story, the disc notes are really helpful. Maybe this is politcs seen through rose-tinted glasses, but it's wonderful to hear!
a classic, underrated Broadway gem.......2003-11-04
FIORELLO! is a lovely, ahead-of-its-time musical, based on the career of New York mayor Fiorello La Guardia. It starred Tom Bosley as La Guardia with a dream cast including Ellen Hanley, Pat Stanley and Eileen Rodgers.
The score, an early collaboration from Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (SHE LOVES ME, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF) is very strong, and includes several show-pieces like "Politics and Poker", "Little Tin Box" and "On the Side of the Angels".
Ellen Hanley (who had previously been criminally under-used as Polly Bergen's understudy in FIRST IMPRESSIONS) glows in the role of feisty Thea, the sweatshop workers' leader. She has two of the score's best ballads, "'Til Tomorrow" and "When Did I Fall in Love".
Pat Stanley (who earned a Tony for her performance in the disastrous GOLDILOCKS) gets the cute number "I Love a Cop". Eileen Rodgers (who later starred in a successful off-Broadway revival of ANYTHING GOES) sings the showstopping "Gentleman Jimmy", a manic flapper tune. FIORELLO! is a fantastic show in that it has no less than 3 strong female roles.
For those who only started following Tom Bosley's career during his 'Happy Days', the fact that he was a top-drawer musical theater talent will come as a big surprise. Bosley played the entire run of 795 performances. Bosley later made many more successful Broadway appearances including BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and (as of this review's writing) a triumphant stint in the Sam Mendes revival of CABARET.
This lovely reissue on the Angel Broadway label sounds as fresh as paint. An excellent remaster job and an excellent cast album.

Album Description
With grackles in their hair and tragedies in their boots, Okkervil River have taken a shot at tradition and injected it with new passion and virility. Uniting the strains of moody chamber pop contemporaries like Tindersticks, Arab Strap and Bright Eyes with the ragged emotional vulnerability of classic folk singers like Leadbelly and Dock Boggs, Okkervil River plays music that is lush, organic, beautiful and unsettling. Supported by some of Austin's best musicians and produced by Brian Beattie, it is no surprise that Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See is such an accomplished musical work. However, what makes this album truly singular is that lyrically, it is so good it makes your head hurt (the good kind of hurt). It reads like no other record we have ever come across: a very contemporary, reflexive masterpiece owing a lot in tone to the very best of the Russian and Southern Gothic literary traditions.
Customer Reviews:
Very good CD........2006-03-02
Westfall is one of the best songs I've heard by Okkervil, and the rest of the CD is decent enough.
Okkervil River's Best .......2005-12-04
Definately their best. Their new albums lost what sacred flourishes kept them from sounding like another Conor Oberst type band. It has a southern/country grit on alot of songs, complete with mandolins, banjos, quick snare drum patterns, and American Gothic lyrics.
When I initially purchased all of Okkervil's three LPs, I was leaning towards Black Sheep as the keeper, but while this album is a slow and meandering river, it has deeper depths and murkier meanings than its successors.
This ended up the only Okkervil album kept
Just....so.....sad.......2005-03-04
Those of us unfortunate enough to be stricken with an inability to see are also those of us fortunate enough to discover the often overlooked power of our auditory senses. Why do we notice sounds at night that go completely overlooked during the day, and get spooked by those normal sounds (walls and tables creaking, pipes rustling) that we couldn't notice less in the sunshine? Have you ever watched a scary movie with the sound off, or noticed your car stereo getting louder as the day grows dimmer? As sight, the most relied upon of all senses, goes, our ears seem to take up the cause to make us aware of our surroundings. More often than not, it is sound and not sight that arouses the most gripping emotional response in our brains.
That said, Okkervil River do a damn good job of conveying emotion, mostly depression and an unforeseen, conflicting, and tortured relationship with vocalist Will Sheff's mother that hints toward some type of unresolved, deeply rooted oedipal conflict. Where Bright Eye's Conor Oberst tends to obnoxiously mope and moan on the mike, Sheff seems to be on the verge of suicide, displaying a cool yet agonizing connection to his tales of adolescent murder and adult heartbreak. Mostly muted and collected, he occasionally breaks into an all-out shout that hints at Oberst-like emotion, yet manages to maintain a restraint that Oberst is incapable of showing.
Playing alt-country like the best Neil Young or Jackson Browne song, the twangy banjos, harmonica, and slide guitar fill in the cracks, acting as bridges between verses or interludes between lyrics, but never taking over. The real star here is Sheff, who stands out most on the classic "Westfall," a disturbingly collected tale about a high schooler, who, along with his best friend, murders a fellow student from a neighboring Christian school. "When I killed her/ it was so easy/ that I wanted to kill her again," he states in a tempered melody, which, when combined with his cool detachment from the narrative, is apt to send shivers into your skull. The crowds and cameras gather round, with all "looking for evil/thinking' they can trace it," however, Sheff reminds the crowd gathering that "evil don't look like anything."
With at least three songs directly referencing "mother," Sheff oddly centers this maternal figure at the center of many songs, displaying emotion from anger at her actions to a blatant want of attention-it is quite apparent that either Sheff can sell his songs like no other, or he's been through some pretty messed up times. This album stands to show that beauty comes from the strangest places.
Great Album.......2005-01-23
This album is wonderful. It isn't the best folk album I have ever heard, far from it. But the song red is flawless. Nothing about this album compares to the live performance this band puts on. If they ever come to your city, (They're touring now with the decemberists) see the show. They're better live than 99% of all bands.
what an incredible surprise.......2003-06-06
Just an incredible album. I happened by this cuz I read a good review I think in Rolling stone and the album just floored me. its not often with a song just MOVES you, and this album has many songs that move you. Red, Westfal, Okkervil River are such beautiful, emotional pieces. Puts your faith back in music.

This one-disc reduction of John McGlinn's monumental three-CD version of Show Boat provides 75 minutes of highlights in a package dubbed the "Broadway Show Album." McGlinn reconstructs the show as it ran on opening night, November 15, 1927, including the original orchestrations, and conducts a dynamic London Sinfonietta and a strong cast including Frederica von Stade as Magnolia, Jerry Hadley as Ravenal, Teresa Stratas as the tragic Julie, Bruce Hubbard as the worldly-wise Joe, Karla Burns as Queenie, and David Garrison and Paige O'Hara as the comic couple Frank and Ellie. And of course the songs by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II are among the most glorious ever written: "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Make Believe," "Why Do I Love You," "Bill," "You Are Love," and "Life upon the Wicked Stage." John McGlinn's full version is a staggering achievement and a recording for the ages, but this single disc is also splendid listening. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Fabulous.......2002-10-03
Let me start off by saying that my first experiences with Show Boat came through the splendid 1951 MGM movie version. Having never seen Show Boat performed live on stage, this CD pretty much brings the live experience home (and note I said 'this' CD; the full 3-disc set would be just short of actually being front row center). The immortal Kern/Hammerstein score is one of my favorites (right up there with My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, and Brigadoon) and is definately one of the greatest ever written for the musical theater.
Since Show Boat does not have an official original cast album, I suppose that this one suffices quite well. All original orchestrations are used here and the music is as it was on opening night in 1927. This is the most complete version available (whether you go with the full set or just this disc). The 1946 revival cast album is the oldest 'complete' album and is nice when paired with this disc to give one a sense of how Show Boat sounded in the early days.
I really didn't care much for this CD at first, but after listening to it a couple more times, I like it better and better each time. McGlinn certainly did right by this one! I'm not too familiar with most of the cast (save for Frederica Von Stade and Paige O'Hara), but they're all great. You'd think that this is a recording of a live performance, not just a studio album. Fantastic singing is had thoughout. McGlinn also did a great job with Brigadoon 3 years later, and did he not have a similar effort with Annie Get Your Gun as well?
I still think that the MGM movie version and its soundtrack album are the best but this rendition is definately not bad! Highly recommended. But if you can, pick up a copy of the movie soundtrack or of the 1946 revival album for comparison.
Dream Come True.......2002-08-22
First, "Showboat" is my all time favorite Musical, from the '40's and '50's when my mother took us to the movies every Sunday. I have video tapes of the 1951 MGM version with Howard Keel and Kathyrn Grayson, as well as the earlier movie version. A few years ago, I saw a TV special on the making of the three Disc complete remake of Showboat, true to the original score. I tried to get a cy of it but no local store could help me. Then through the magic of computers and AMAZON.com, I obtained the three disc set plus this single CD, which I treasure. This one is the best, without doubt. Now I have the complete version of songs and music I only vaguely remembered from the TV special. I wish someone would make a movie just like this version so I could have it on DVD. The whole cast and orchestra are awesome, especially Frederica von Stade. I have since bought other CDs of her work. Buy the three disc set if you can afford it, it has a thick booklet with the actual score and dialogue. But if you cannot, buy this CD. This is the ultimate, the prototype Broadway musical.
IT DESERVES 6 STARS.......2001-06-29
I can't thank enough all the people responsable for this terrific revival cast album. Here is a perfect example of how you should do a classic show and maintain the original intentions of the writer and the composer. If they were alive,JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN would have been proud of the way their masterpiece have survived them.It is impossible to imagine a better version of the show;this is the definitive one. It's funny when you think of it,most people know the songs by heart, yet it seems that we rediscover the show with this version.Suddently ,we are in 1927 and mister ZIEGFELD is scared like hell that he will loose a lot of money with this;but that's strangely the situation in which the modern AMERICAN musical was born.
Show Boat.......2000-09-10
I really like this recording! The voices are really great. I especially liked "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man." I would recommend this CD to everyone who likes the show and musical theatre.

One could get worked up over the fact that this is effectively an EP of new songs rounded out by another bunch of coconuts from Roddy's hyperexploited catalog. But what's to complain about really? The single "If We Fall in Love Tonight" purrs like a Porsche. The ripe cover of the Leo Sayer hit "When I Need You" is vintage fromage. There's a reminder or two from the '70s that our man's never been anything but an ol' romantic. --Jeff Bateman

Love hits.........2007-01-28
"If we fall in Love Tonight" is a very enjoyable Soft Rock Collection from Rod Stewart's previous releases, with 3 additional new radio songs; A very relaxing ballad. Almost all Stewart's nice old love songs exist on this album and although this is a great CD, it surely does not offer a good overview of all his past good songs and hits.
`Never a Dull moment', `Atlantic Crossing' and `A night in town', is where any new fan of Rod Stewart should really start.
I am very happy owning this CD.
BEST.......2007-01-10
I happen to be a huge Rod Stewart fan. This is probably my favorite!
Thank You Rod.......2005-12-30
I don't know if I could ever fully express my gratitude to Rod.. A couple of years back, I had a blind date.. Well, she was more attractive than I ever could have expected; I was at a loss for words and I simply just froze up. I had gone into this date with no expectations; I didn't bring flowers; I simply just honked when I arrived at her place of residence.. When we started to leave for our destination(on the phone,I had originally flat out lied and told her I was broke and could only afford Subway; and to go dutch at the dollar cinema)she was cold. When I was able to compose myself and actually attempt to make conversation, I got nothing. She clearly wasn't impressed with me. I attempted to smooth things over by telling her that she didn't look anything like I had expected; she expressed the same sentiment to me, but unfortunately, before we met, she told me that I had a gorgeous voice.. Anyway, there we were driving; her head turned towards the window; I'm quickly grasping for any possible solution to pull me out of this hole.. Then, I remember, I had taken my Grandmother out to lunch earlier in the week, and she had left a Rod Stewart album in my stereo. Normally, I wouldn't think twice about it, but this was no ordinary Stewart disc. No, this wasn't his humdrum work from the early '70s, or that lame duet with Jeff Beck.. this was the sensual guarantee of being asked in at the end of the night.
I started with the first track, "If We Fall In Love Tonight"; I needed to get the message to this girl that it was okay, She could let go, and who better to help me express this sentiment than Rod? As the vocal started, she actually turned her attention away from the passing traffic and commented that she thought she had heard this one before, but couldn't put her finger on the time or place.
It didn't get me very far, but at least she was talking..
Then, I skipped ahead to "For The First Time"; at that point, she spoke again, and said that this one always reminded her of a root canal. I didn't understand, but then she explained that there was a version of this that the guy who did the song "Footloose" did, and when she had some dental issues a few years back, she heard the song, over and over again while sitting in the chair.
This wasn't going at all as I had planned, so I moved ahead to "When I Need You"; all of the sudden, I felt an arm come around my shoulder- she giggled and whispered in my ear, "you know what this one is really about, don't you?" Well, I had no clue what she was talking about, but what difference did it make? I was finally getting somewhere, so I smiled and nodded, and let the track play in it's entirety.
When, "Have I Told You Lately" began, I felt her hand on my knee. She told me that for some reason, this remix took her back to high school, when a video by the group "Color Me Bad" was popular, in which a man and woman were trapped together in an elevator.. I couldn't believe how much this girl could blab, but I didn't care, the CD was working, she was getting increasingly heated up.
By track eight, we were kissing rather intensely, and no, it's no coincidence that the song playing was a slow jam like "The First Cut Is The Deepest".
The deal was pretty much set with "Tonight's The Night", but when my date didn't hear the French whispers at the end, she cooled off a little bit. I almost panicked, but then "Sometimes When We Touch" closed the deal. It went back to the whole elevator scenario again(shrug); only this time it was a connection to an Aerosmith song.. Whatever the case, it didn't matter, she asked if I wanted to pass on our plans for the evening and just go back to her place for a drink.. Thank you, Rod..
Oh and no, you don't have to ask, we finished the CD once we arrived at her place- it all went well until the last two tracks: "Forever Young '96" started her talking about her need to start a family before she was too old; and I'm sure "All For Love", featuring Bryan Adams and Sting is self explanatory..
Anyway, after this release, I thought we almost lost Rod; he actually put out an album in '98(When We Were The New Boys) that featured rockers, where he was attempting to go back to his roots(yawn).. but it's always darkest before the dawn; he then did a motivational song for the "Patch Adam's" soundtrack- and then the flood.. "The Great American Songbook". With this exceptional, four volume set, we realized Rod hadn't lost anything; and I'm sure I don't have to explain my good fortunes on subsequent dates.
Awesome.......2005-09-17
The CD is magnificent with a lot of old Rod Stewart songs-very impressive if you haven't listened to Rod in a while. Was very impressed with the shipping of the product-two days to deliver to my house and arrived in great shape also.
Great "LOVE" songs CD from Rod's collection!.......2005-04-24

Hooray for Hollywood.......2007-07-22
I bought this CD to go with an Academy Awards/Hollywood Walk-of-Fame theme party at work. It was the perfect accompaniment and mood setter.
It was February and a group of us decorated the lounge with black, gold, and silver tableclothes and balloon bouquets, and scattered around clap boards and faux film strip on the tables, along with movie trivia cards and black and gold wrapped mints. I made a walk-of-fame star for every employee and taped them on the walls around the room. We also laid down a red carpet from the entrance of the room to about the center with the decorated tables flanking both sides. We sat up the snack table with a sign that said, "Studio Commissary" and went with theme snacks like "James Bonbons with Halle Berry sauce," and "The Queen's scones." Each week we took a quarter of the walk-of-fame stars and posted them on the bulletin board for the staff to write peer compliments under. At the end of the week these stars were taken down and the next set of stars was posted.
This CD really set the mood for employees as they entered the lounge for the first time on that first day after it was decorated, and during the party at the end of the month. The month ended with an Academy Award party with an Oscar going to each employee for outstanding effort in whatever category (best dressed, best supporting staff member, most animated story teller, most pleasant entercom voice, most punctual, best sense of humor, most artistic, etc.), and they were given their stars with the peer compliments attached to the back. Everyone commented on how special they felt and how neat the theme was. Good morale booster.
This CD would also be perfect for the ambiance at your own Academy Awards party at home. Print out those ballots, cast your votes, pop some popcorn and pass around the Juji fruits, and let's watch the Oscars!
Kunzel does it yet again!.......2004-11-23
Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops do a great job everytime, and this is no exception. I'm telling you, if you ever thought that purely intrumental/orchestral was unattractive, this will change your mind. Never a disappointment!
Movie Music.......2002-12-12
If you love that music from all those movies you've seen, then this is the CD you want! It is fantastic!! I want more!! I hope Erich Kunzel will come out with some music from older movies and maybe some TV programs. Listening to his music is better than watching the movie.
More than Beautiful!!.......2002-12-11
This is the absolute best CD they ever put together! And that is saying a lot as we are very picky about what music we like. This is the kind of music that makes you 'feel' deeply. It encourages you to dream big and love living! Forget the grooves, drums and bangs and listen to something incredibly beatiful! You won't be sorry for the money invested in this one bit of sanity in such a hectic world.
This is the one you should own.......2002-10-27
If you are looking for just one solid collection of memorable movie themes, this is it. Other CDs mix marches and fanfares with quieter tracks, which makes for a jarring listening experience at times. This CD, however, has a consistent feel all the way through. Melodic, calming, and, best of all, interesting. These movie tracks weren't selected simply for their sound, but also because they are GOOD. You get the best of the best: James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, and Randy Edelman.

Wonderful, sensitive playing...........2003-11-02
Ah, reader, consider this album. I have been listening to Bayless music for years, from Bach Meets the Beatles to his crazy happy birthday album in a dozen styles (Stravinsky's Rite of Birthday, a favorite), but this one has something special going on. The playing is so beautifully, and sensitively played that one is really swept away by the original movie tune, interwound with a classical piece, so seamless and amazing. One of my all-time favorite albums.
John Bayless is awesome.......2003-10-13
He's such a great talent, I was lucky enough to meet him almost 2 years ago. I got this CD autographed! :) He was such a nice person and performed so well on the stage. Buy this album, it's really awesome!
The One CD in My Collection I Never Tire of Listening To.......2001-03-24
John Bayless had a vision for this album---to combine the most beautiful classical pieces along with the most romantic and engaging movie themes of all time. The arrangements and the way in which he weaves the varous pieces together, sometimes playing both themes simultaneously, are incredible. They lift you up and carry you away. The various instrumental additions (such as the guitar in track 2, drums in track 6, strings in track 5, the sound of the wind in track 4) add just the right touch---lightly sprinkled in when needed. As a professional pianist myself, I also appreciate his considerable technique and the emotion with which he infuses his music. Anyone who likes classical music and movies should own this CD. Anyone who has friends who like classical music and movies should purchase this CD for them. They will love you for it. It is my favorite CD. I never tire of listening to it.
Gorgeous arrangements. Very dramatic and melodic........1999-11-16
Don't be scared off by the "clown-like" picture on the cover. This album, by a true piano virtuoso/arranger, blends familiar movie and light classical melodies together into unique arrangements. Every time it's been on while I have guests, someone always asks "What's that beautiful music?"
