Customer Reviews:
A wonderful album!.......2004-10-06
This is an essential new age album that you should not pass up. This was Patrick O'hearns best album before his new album surpassed it. This is probably Patricks most space oriented of his electronic albums to date. It's the dark electronic, rainy music that makes me love this album. Every song on here is a breakthrough for this extremely talented musician. Some songs I remember hearing when I was very young.
Rainmaker is a very haunting song with an intense misty atmosphere with some ceramic percussion. Sky Juice is a breathtaking song with very electronic synths and some jet sound effects with some thumping beats and a cool bass. However that is nothing like the next one. Cape Perpetual is beyond any word I can describe about this song. It's a very spooky track. It starts of with some strange breezy wind instruments and some thundering sounds in the distance. At about 30 seconds there are some synthesizer hums that fade in. The sound of the synth humming almost scared me at first listening. It then becomes a dark very space oriented song with ceramic percussion and thundering jet sound effects. I could close my eyes listening to this song and imagine myself traveling on the Orient Express through oriental space. This song alone makes this album a five star. Gentle Was The Night is a very beautiful song with just mostly synths. This is a great song. Fire Ritual is a very pop oriented song and some vocal doodling here and there. This is probably the brightest song on here. 87 Dreams Of A Lifetime lives up to the title. This is a very stunning and could rank as one of his best 80s tracks ever. It starts with just some ambient synths and the synths get louder and at about a minute into the song the real music begins. This is a haunting song with a catchy rhythm and a space jazzy stmosphere. This is my second favorite off this album. Dimension D is a very space oriented song with some haunting sound effects and a very dark ambient atmosphere. Forever The Optimistic is a pop oriented song with great electronic bass, a great hook and some synth tinklings throughout the song. I almost cryed when I first heard this song and today I consider this song a new age classic. Journey To Yoroba is another haunting song. It has lots of ceramic percussion and ambient synths. I love the drum loop to this song. The closing title track is great with more great synths and cool drums.
All in all I rank this album as one Mr. O'Hearns strongest masterpieces to date.
It's hard to really say how much I love this album because it really stimulates imagination in a way that none of his other albums can.
In fact this album for a time is almost like the soundtrack my high school years because it reflects lonely I feel sometimes. In fact I strongly recommend this album to all who love music to listen to while thinking. It's very intelligent music that should be enjoyed by all generations.
Well that's all I can say.
Bye!Bye!

Beautiful, Accessible and Packed with Music.......2004-05-02
I'm usually not a huge fan of the last five decades or so of musical composition -- too much cacophany and obscurity, as if any sort of recognizable theme were a thought crime. This album has helped me grow more comfortable with several composers I did not previously appreciate. It's not easy music, but it's a wonderful, relaxing, and quite melodic listening experience rather than an intellectual exercise. Some pieces, such as the Eldin Burton Sonatina, are now among my favorites.
As an added bonus, this is a long CD -- 20 pieces, taking up 1.3 hours to be exact. So you get a lot for your investment. There's bound to be something in there you like.
Beautiful.......2004-01-29
This CD is beautiful and haunting! I highly recomend it. It is very relaxing. I found this CD here on Amazon by accident, and ended up ordering it after I listened to the sample songs. Order it! It's great! :)

Sprague's Best.......2007-07-15
I had never really thought much of Billy Sprague's pop music until I heard this recording and it is definitely his best. Not only that but it is among the best contemporary Christian albums ever made. It isn't always easy to translate emotions like the loss of a loved one into good music, but Billy does just that in an impressive way. I agree with the other reviewers here that every song is good, even the lighter more pop ones. This album also brings back memories for me personally because I made a mixed tape for my then girlfriend (now wife) which included the song "Two-Way Street". We had only been dating a year at that point but the tape was full of memorable songs we both liked. Now fourteen years later that old tape is full of emotion and more memories. I can only imagine what emotions Billy Sprague feels when he looks back to that time.
Billy's Passionate Gift To Honor RosaLynn & Press On.......2005-03-30
I bought this CD strictly for a song being played on the radio called "Heaven is a long Hello" I knew the general meaning of the song but I didn't know at the time the personal meaning for Billy. When I received the CD I actually loved every song which is unusual. You usually only like 2 or 3 at most. The compassion and emotion that poured out of this man's voice made me go back and pull the insert to find out what inspired him. It was then that I found out that his Fiance had passed away 2 days following a tragic car accident. The final letter she wrote him was a plea for him to press on. Because of the devastation of her loss it took 3 years but he used this CD not only to "Press On Mi Amor" but to honor her. The end of February my mom's cousin called me from N.C. and said that his daughter, who is a GA state trooper here in GA was planning to get married in April and he asked me to try to make it so that I could see every one again. A week later he called my mom and told her the wedding had been cancelled. Her fiance, who appearantly been a Sheriff's Deputy served an arrest warrant on a man. He was wearing his protective gear and had his weapon pulled on the man but was unaware of the man's father hiding in the hallway. He was shot in the face and killed. I bought another copy of this CD and sent it to her in hopes that she could identify with the experiences and emotions that Billy went through. God Bless anyone who has gone through something like this. My prayers are with you.
He shares his personal journey.......2004-08-06
Billy Sprague's fiance's death devastated him. The songs on this CD take you through his journey from grief to healing. The notes on the insert give wonderful insights into his songs. Every song is wonderful--and it's rare that I like every song on a CD. This is one you'll want to listen to from start to finish many, many times and one you'll want to share with your friends. The style of the music is contemporary, a style I think everyone can appreciate since it's not distinctly rock, country, or other labelled style. I highly recommend this recording.

Abbath shows he's STILL got it!.......2007-05-31
I have no idea where some reviewers are getting a Motorhead comparison here... they need to lay off the pipe, I think.
Except for the absence of crazy fast blastbeat-type drumming, this very well could have been a new Immortal album. The vocals are vintage Abbath, as are the lyrics, but there's less trem-picking and blasting on the drums, so I'm guessing he didn't want to "dilute" the legendary(and deservedly so) Immortal legacy. No worries - this album kicks major ***!
My favorite song is "Warriors" - hands down. And horns up! Abbath shows he is still relevant in the metal genre - so listen up, you young guns - Abbath ain't done yet!
An interesting twist........2007-04-16
I didn't really know what to expect when I bought this album. I knew i was a fan of Immortal's last album 'Sons Of Northern Darkness'. I figured it would be something along those lines. I was mistaken, and delightfully surprised. 'I' features members from Immortal, Enslaved, and Gorgoroth. It is heavy metal with a hint of black metal, and the crisp blackend vocals of Immortals own Olve Eikemo (Abbath). The songs are very catchy and extremely unique. It's a must for any fan of black metal or any one seeking out something new.
Yes! Yes! This rocks!.......2007-03-25
Four years after his old band dissolved, ex-Immortal frontman Abbath (whose real name is Olve Eikemo) has moved on and founded a solo project. This project, which is simply called I, is a supergroup of sorts because it's comprised of members of Immortal (Abbath and drummer Armagedda), Enslaved (guitarist Ice Dale), and Gorgoroth (bassist TC King). I's debut album is aptly entitled "Between Two Worlds" because it draws heavy influence from two bands -- Motorhead and Immortal (only without blast beats) -- and sounds like a mish-mash of classic rock, traditional metal, black/dark metal, speed metal, and (to a lesser extent) thrash. The result is one rockin' good time!
Most of the songs here are composed of only a single riff, but don't let that give you the wrong impression -- the songs never become overly repetitive or stale. "Between Two Worlds" features some of the hookiest, most well-constructed, and best guitar licks put to wax by any band in 2006. They are super groovey, meaty, contagious, heavy yet simultaneously melodic, and they build off of each other and flow together remarkably well. Then, to make an already good album even better, the band add controlled and usually melodic guitar solos (which are reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Megadeth), thumping drum beats, prominent bass lines, and occasional melodic vocals to offset Abbath's signature, throaty black metal croak.
The album shoots out of the starting gate with an ultra-catchy and oh-so-Motorhead-esque tune by the name of "The Storm I Ride." Abbath does his best Lemmy impersonation over a strong, propulsive riff that will have listeners everywhere tapping their feet in rhythm, and a tasty clean solo near the end is the icing on this song's cake. "Warriors" is a significantly slower tune that is more in line with classical metal and boasts two stellar solos (the first of which is almost beautiful.) Next, the title cut is a superbly rhythmic (albeit overlong) number, and is backed by a catchy, galloping rhythm and a ripping, ascending solo. Then, after that, we are treated to the positively blistering "Battalions," which is filled with rocketing tempos, crunchy thrash riffs, and beeping bass notes. "Mountains" is another catchy rocker, and is highlighted by a jaw-droppingly great guitar solo (the album's best!). Moving along, "Days Of North Winds," has more strong, chug and churn riffs and a blazing solo; "Far Beyond The Quiet," is a very open and majestic-sounding piece with effective tempo changes, nice melodic leads, wailing solos, and grumbling bass notes; and lastly, "Cursed We Are," the record's thrashiest track, is fueled by double-kick drums and gobs of fiery, breakneck riffing.
"Between Two Worlds" is far different than anything Immortal ever put out, so it may take some getting used to if you are a longtime fan of that band and expecting this album to continue in that vein. But even though it may not be the follow-up to "Sons of Northern Darkness" that you were expecting, there is still a lot to enjoy here. If you like music with an abundance of gripping, headbanging riffs, excellent solos, melodic hooks, infectious grooves, and memorable songs, you are sure to agree.
These guys know what their doing!!.......2007-01-19
Abbath, was quoted as sayin," I had all these riffs layed down, but they would'nt have worked for Immortal at the time." So, we get "Between Two Worlds and I'm glad Abbath found a way to get those "riffs" out there. This imo, is an excellent rock/metal album. Quality musicianship, top production and songwriting. Arve Isdal(guitarist with Enslaved) plays on this and o e reason why I got this. Imo, Arve is really not appreciated in the metal world for his guitar virtuosity. One of the best working today. Pick this up!
METAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2006.......2007-01-19
Superb Metal album!! At first I was put off by the commercial leanings of this album, expecting to hear IMMORTAL. But, after repeated listening, it grew on me in a big way. I should have given this 5 STARS!! So far it's the best Metal album I've heard from 2006.
Some are saying it's not IMMORTAL. Those IMMORTAL ripsaw power chords are there. Only they sound more mainstream. And the growling dark winter vocals and lyrics are there. It sounds like IMMORTAL to me. But, with a more straight ahead feel to the Metal. I think maybe Abbath is looking for a more commercial appeal to his sound. Black Metal is basically a fringe audience. When you can play this good, who wouldn't want to appeal to a bigger audience? It works for me in a big way. I love IMMORTAL. They're my second favorite Black Metal band next to EMPEROR. But, I love the direction Abbath is taking with this music. This is the best solid straight up Metal album I've heard in a long time. And I hope there's going to be more.
IMMORTAL lyrics and vocals, yes. BATHORY songs, yes.
MOTORHEAD? No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I don't get the MOTORHEAD comparison. I love MOTORHEAD, but the only track that sounds even vaguely like MOTORHEAD is maybe THE STORM I RIDE. Maybe.

Generally good, but recommended with reservations.......2006-06-08
Korngold's music is spectacular, and I would recommend it do anyone. I also agree with other reviews I have read for this disc that the music for Between Two Worlds is generally well performed. The DSO-Berlin (former RIAS Orchestra) is a top-notch orchestra, but the second movement of the Symphonic Serenade is utterly amateurish. I kid you not, it sounds at times like a student orchestra. The third and fourth movements are generally solid, but overall there are many patchy parts in the playing--weak coordination, intonation problems, and so forth. But given the paucity of quality recordings of these pieces, this disc is still well worth getting.
Simply Superb And THE Reference Recording For BTW!.......2002-01-28
This CD contains about 30 minutes of cues from Erich Wolfgang
Korngold's BETWEEN TWO WORLDS film symphony, and is the primary
focus of this review. I know of no other modern recording that
can compare with the selections presented here. And there may be
more cues yet to be released, since the CD booklet notes that the
"(s)oundtrack (was) edited by John Mauceri" who is, of course,
the conductor of this brilliant recording. The CD also contains
two of Korngold's classical compositions which are excellent,
and, for Korngold film-music fans, definitely a major "bonus."
Don't hesitate with this one; add it to your collection
immediately!

"Music to Change Your Life".......2006-11-19
This was the fastest selling cd at Kripalu, selling out in just a few hours at the Kripalu Store during a Kirtan workshop with Daniel Paul on Tabla's and the incredible vocals of Jai Uttal. The music of these men truly changed my life that weekend...You become "held" in incredibly high, positive notes of ecstasy that allows your soul to sing, enveloping you in a blissful warm glow. Ecstatic chant, or kirtan is the best addiction - I LOVE this cd and all the others by Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul!

A word of explanation........2003-11-03
This CD is by Oomph (without an exclamation point), a band which plays a style of Jewish folk music known as Klezmer. If you are a fan of Klezmer music, this CD will surely not disappoint you. It's excellent in that regard. However, if you are expecting some well-crafted German industrial metal -- how disappointed you will be! Again, this is Oomph, not OOMPH!. I smiled as I read the one review stating that although this CD is not as good as Plastik, it's not all that bad, and it kind of grows on you. Well, I can only say Kudos to that person for having such an open mind. But comparing the two CD's is like comparing Luciano Pavarotti to Marilyn Manson! How could you not tell that the two CD's were produced by two entirely different bands?
NOT OOMPH!.......2003-05-01
r This is NOT THE GERMAN BAND OOMPH! This is some folk/ stuff... How disappointed I was when This arrived! Gah... Wish it Never Listed with OOMPH! What A Collosal mistake!!! this is like confusing orchastra music with Heavy Metal..... Gah... cough, cough.... faint!.... Don't make the same Mistake I did! Unless u are looking for Folk/instramental stuff... avoid like the plague!
This CD is not from Oomph! out of Germany!.......2000-07-18
This CD is not produced by the band Oomph! from Wolfsburg/Germany. It is from a second band that calls herself Oomph without "!" at the end. I'd like to inform all Oomph!-fans in america and other countries that this CD has nothing in common with the great noisy music created by Oomph!. I've read on the official homepage of Oomph! that some american fans bought it in hope of getting a new CD by Oomph! and they had been very disappointed about it. I'd like to protect you from a mistake. call in to get more information about the real Oomph! and what CD's they've made.
Good, but not the best..........2000-06-11
This cd is very good but plastik is better. Of course beign thats this one is older you dont hear too much about it but I have to say I would have difficulties deciding between the two if I only had enough money when I bought them. Alls you hear is how this one is worse than their others but it comes in second with me.
Great yes, But, not the best.......2000-06-11
This was the 2nd Oomph CD I bought, I liked Plastik better but this one is underrated. Noone buys it because they hear bad things about it and how the noew ones better but I have a different persprective, It great but plastik (I have to agree) is better.
