Brewing sonorous textures with piano, synthesizer, harpsichord, and pipe organ, Lee Blaske creates a cryptic, haunting atmosphere with Journey of a Vampire. These instrumentals are darkly beautiful and launched with poems spoken by the character of an 18th-century vampire. In a seductive, commanding tone, the vampire implores his paramour to join him in an afterworld that's "between darkness and light / between ancient and eternal / between real and imagined." Intensely sensual with a dab of the erotic, the short recitations depict the would-be passage into the world of the living dead and timeless love in such eerie detail that even Anne Rice would swoon: "You'll feel only / the soft pull of my voice / at first / guiding you through the fog / of this dream / And then your heart / will ignite..." The only slight disappointments on this disc are the two songs that are more uplifting and pretty than portentous and ethereal ("Rebirth" and "Through the Mirror"), but on the whole this CD is most effective as a ghostly, romantic vampire chronicle. --Karen Karleski

Product Description
Journey of a Vampire goes beyond the allure of that first immortal kiss. Only desire lives here beside the sultry, sometimes haunting classical melody that conjures up images between the ancient and the eternal. We invite you to join Lee Blaske on this dark and sensuous voyage. This is rich, warm and completely tantalizing music designed to captivate the soul.

4 out of 5 stars A good CD, which I don't much like!.......2006-09-29

I think this CD will really suit people who are coming from an easy listening background and are looking for something a little more emotive, something for those quieter moods.

However! As someone who bought this CD in an attempt NOT to buy yet another Nox Arcana or Midnight Syndicate album I find I now own music I'd listen to in a piano bar or in an elevator but which does not transport me to a deeper realm. The CD is swamped with piano, whereas I prefer the mood of the few organ pieces. The spoken voice that appears sporadically is very good and greatly enriches the album.

4 out of 5 stars Beautifully Haunting.......2003-10-07

The best way to describe this album is the title itself: Journey of a Vampire is what you really get out of this album. This cd, unlike most "vampire" music out there is not corny in the least, no poor goth singing or cheap sytho beats. This CD along with Matt Fink's "Music of the Vampires" are the only two vampire CDs worth listening to as I've felt they're the only ones who have captured the romanticized ideals of a vampire. I would also like to say besides these two albums, I'm not into the vampire ideals any more, as I don't read vamp books, role play or any of that nonsense. I actually like these two albums purely for their musical value.

For being a vampire CD it's worthy of 5 stars, but I do have to be fair and compare it to all music where it falls around four, which is still a great score. The spoken word voice effect is perfect, not corny in the least, it's the subject matter that I have a minor problem with. If this album is a journey, the spoke word itself does not reflect that. Everytime the spoken word kicks in, it's rehashing the same subject, just said in a different way. I would have liked more of a narrative/poetic story of becoming a vampire, being a vampire, etc... I mean this is a "journey" isn't it? But don't get me wrong, if it had to boil down to something I would say not to change a thing on this album because it is material worth buying.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, sensual, yet dark........2002-07-11

This CD seems like the perfect mix between our world and the world created by so many authors. When I first heard this music, I felt like I was spinning into a vortex of sound. This CD has allowed me to understand how a vampire might see our world, and I believe that this is a CD that all must admit its deep beauty.

5 out of 5 stars This is absolutely great stuff........2002-05-18

"Follow me, my love, and I will take you to a world between darkness and light. Between ancient and eternal. Between real and imagined. Where the truest love dances on the edge of madness, balanced on the shadow of a dreamer's sigh. Come... through the door..."

This stanza begins an album that to me is a perfect mix of eerie, beautiful music and gentle spoken voice work. As soon as I heard that stanza, carried by soft synthesizer sounds underneath it I was hooked on this album. I do not (yet) have this album in my collection but I have had a chance to hear it. How beautiful this is. The vocal narration before each piece pulls you gently along, almost daring you to follow the vampire on the journey he describes, to be a part of his adventure or his memory. Whoever they got to speak the role of the vampire here(possibly Lee Blaske himself?) was the perfect choice, with a gentle voice, rich and deep and soothing but with just a touch of sinister tones and alluring tenderness. The musical pieces themselves, done largely with beautiful work on piano and synthesizers, paint a picture of the vampire not so much as a monster but almost like the romantic hero of an ancient story, gently imploring his love to join him in his world beyond the grave. This is great for reducing or relieving stress but if you have a romantic heart it just MIGHT make that heart beat a LITTLE bit faster... and may send chills through you. It did for me, and I enjoyed this work very much. I hope you enjoy it too. Peace. :)

5 out of 5 stars Nice. Lyrical and soft with a macabre and sinister edge........2002-05-15

Let me begin by saying that I do not have this album in my collection. However I HAVE had a chance to hear it. How BEAUTIFUL this is. The music itself is soft and kind of foreboding. Before each musical piece a deep and very soothing voice narrates a piece of poetic text that sort of makes you drift, imagining that the vampire is speaking to you personally, luring you off into sleep, or a seductive dream of sorts. Seductive I think is a good word to use here. Still the music does have a kind of very subtle dark edge in it. as if the vampire is not trying to scare you but to beguile you and seduce you and lead you unresisting into his world. Whoever did the voice narrations for this (Perhaps Lee Blaske himself?) was the perfect choice. Chilling and alluring at the same time. The musical pieces are perfectly fitting to accompany these short and sort of erotic poems. This is expertly written stuff, perfefct for what it tries to do, to paint a vampire as not just a monster but a creature with almost human desires for love, companionship, romance, etc. This is VERY good at reducing stress but it just MIGHT make your heart race a little bit. Enjoy it. I certainly did. :) This is the PERFECT MIX of slightly to very dark but beautiful music and gentle spoken text narration. A great blend of music and voice. Peace, take care.
