"The Essential Falla" is just that, including all of Manuel de Falla's major works (performed by the likes of Dutoit, Fruhbeck de Burgos and de Larrocha) on these two CDs. Highlights are excellent performances of Falla's three most famous works: "El amor brujo", "Noches en los jardines de Espana" and "El Sombrero de tres picos". The rest of the included music is perhaps less well-know but no less enjoyable. Perhaps the only quibble I have with this CD is the enclusion of the Harpsicord Concerto. While it is an enjoyable piece, it is very much a Stravinsky-esque neo-classical work, and it seems somewhat out of place amongst Falla's other, very Spanish, works. Nonetheless, if you enjoy 20th Century Spanish music, this CD is indeed an essential.

I ordered this cd as inspiration for my African Grey parrot. (no kidding) I adopted him a couple of months ago and his first family taught him some basic tunes. I ask you, how many times do I have to hear the 'wolf whistle'? While he's hopefully absorbing some new, more challenging tunes, I'm enjoying listening to familiar scores whistled, accompanied by a piano.

After 6 LPS with POLYDOR,RENAUD signed with VIRGIN and the first release became one of the biggest seller of his career.MISS MAGGIE became a hit and even had an ENGLISH version.The whole album is a catalogue of his familiar themes with a new maturity,probably because he became the father of a girl a few years before.For those who don't know this FRENCH folksinger and are allergic to greatest hits package,MISTRAL GAGNANT is the original cd to buy if you want only one.RENAUD's music is a cross between DYLAN and the MONTMARTRE populist songs of early twentieth century.
