Customer Reviews:
ACOP.......2007-03-15
This CD is radio friendly, and should be listened to from start to finish letting the context of the music along with the lyrics take you to the special place inside your head. In other words, a person should give this CD a listen, and you will see not only are you dancing in your seat but you are actually enjoying the tunes. This is a young band who are just finding their space in the musical spectrum, and they have grown tremendously since their first album. This is the kind of group you can grow with and not out of in time. Check it out.
Room To Grow.......2007-02-22
To all of the haters of this band and CD, please remember that this band is made up of a group of teenagers. For their young ages, this is quite an impressive effort. The opening track, along with "Take Care" and "Shoot From the Hip" are the strongest tracks, the rest falling between emo and pop-punk. This CD is quite mainstream and radio-friendly, but that dosen't mean it dosen't have its share of moments. And it does offer a lion's share of huge hooks and catchy riffs. Only thing is the relative similarity of many of the tracks...but if you like the sound, then that's just fine. This may not be the big breakout CD from this band just yet, but they have time to grow. It is a step in the right direction, especially lyrically. If these guys put it all together the next time out, look out.
Best Cd iv listened to in a long time.......2007-01-05
finaly i can get a cd that i can listen the whole way through and not skip songs, i love every song on this cd. I would recommend you buying it, i listen to this cd probly everyday. The kid things for 13 year-olds but im 15. and i dont have an account here.
A "change" of pace? Hardly.......2006-09-13
ACOP's second full length offering "prepare the masses" is anything but a "change" from the corporate faux post-hardcore trash we're subjected to on a daily basis by taking back sunday and so they say. If you're expecting something catchy, you'll be letdown. If you're expecting something heavy, you'll be letdown. If you're expecting something original...forget about it!
Aside from a small handful of radio singles, there is almost nothing memorable about "prepare the masses". It is what it is; generic post-hardcore. If you're a diehard fan of 'so they say' or 'taking back sunday' (post-tell all your friends), you may want to give this a shot. Anyone else, stay away!
It works... kind of........2006-08-19
A Change of Pace's Prepare for the Masses feels like one of the most incredibly manufactured discs I've ever heard. With a sound that might remind you of a heavier mallpunk band, such as Fall Out Boy or Motion City Soundtrack, and lyrics that on the political songs are like a bad grass roots anti war movement(with "controversial" titles such as "How to Rape a Country"), and on the love songs just seem incredibly mundane.
You listen to the album, and start to wonder... "is this a joke? a parody?" But as you get through, you realize something. This is produced in an extremely slick package. You'll be humming along with the stuff, not even realizing it. As a pop album, even with the attempts to be cutting edge, it works incredibly well, especially on the electronic tinged "I'm Alive", the drum-heavy sexy "War in Your Bedroom", and quite possibly the strongest song on the album "I Wanna Be Your Rock-n-Roll", and it hits you.
It's an incredibly fun listen. It's short, clocking in at 42 minutes, but at the length it's at, it just works. And that's what I'd say about the album as a whole. It's got many, many flaws. It borders on mundane lyrically, the musicianship doesn't feel anything special, and the sound is extremely manufactured, but as you listen to this, you can't help but like it. So with that in mind, even though my brain is telling me to tell you to ignore this album, my gut is telling you to give it a listen and enjoy it... just don't expect anything revolutionary.

Nothing new.......2007-03-01
I bought this C.D. on the suggestion of a store clerk
It's just okay; with a few good moments
And that's all it can ever aspire to be
The first song does rip the guitar intro to "Cross Out The Eyes" by Thursday, and it dosen't go in any big direction after that
My suggestion, go listen to Thursday
Or Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Chiodos, Circa Survive, Say Anything, Saves The Day, or Fall Out Boy
All bands that actually mean something or have good ideas
Horrid.......2006-10-06
A couple good songs. Not very inventive, nothing exciting. I was really into them before they came out with the full length, but the CD as a whole is too polished and sounding like every other band.
The songs just drag on and nothing seems to stand out. They are NOT like Thursday. I don't know where this came from. They sound more like Yellowcard trying to be hard.
Avoid this CD at all costs. And if you can, avoid the new CD also. It's worse then this and this is pretty bad.
there is a difference between these guys and thursday.......2006-04-24
theres a small difference between thursday and a change of pace....and that bein the fact that thursday sucks left nut...dont care for em at all....picked up this cd expectin them to suck much like thursday and was suprised...they are very good....i had "Goodbye for Now" on repeat for a while...deff gonna melt this cd by playin it so much
horrible.......2006-03-01
i tried to like this band but it didnt work. after i heard "a farewell to friendship" all i could think about is the yellowcard song "cigarette". it matches up perfect and it makes me sick to think a band like acop would rip off of yellowcard AND thursday
Its ok but sounds just like Thursday.......2006-01-03
Yea uh, my friend recommended this album, I think he knows them locally in Arizona, my first thought wow this sounds like thursday. I am a big fan of thursday, i bought the cd listened to all the songs, yea, just like thursday, not as good, but not bad. You could call it a rip off but a lot of bands sound a like these days, so I guess if ur a fan of thursday you will like these kids.

Every so often, an album drifts quietly back into circulation with little or no fanfare--no bonus tracks, no studio chatter, no extra nothing. That's the story with Johnny Griffin's Change of Pace, plainly packaged and still only 39 minutes long. But it's a stellar work that should've come back long before 1999. Maybe Griffin's concept relegated the album to the back burner: he brought on board a pair of bassists (Bill Lee and Larry Gales), drummer Ben Riley, and French-horn playerJulius Watkins. Of course Watkins had, only a couple years before Griffin's 1961 date, joined hands with fellow Thelonious Monk veteran Charlie Rouse as part of the Jazz Modes, so maybe Griffin, one of Monk's all-time favorites, picked up the tenor and French-horn vibe there. In any event, Griffin's addition of the bassists gave him a resonant pillow to play over. He plays sweetly on "Soft and Furry," kicks it up a notch (or more) for Cole Porter's "In the Still of the Night," and they're off. Known for his speed and his appetite for biting, gut-grabbing tone, Griffin shows off a wide, colorful personality throughout Change: here a bluesy kingpin, there a big-hearted lover. He flies every hard-bop flag high, assuring that Change be considered a stealthy reprint, something that creeps up and surprises, over and over. --Andrew Bartlett

Memories of Paris 1963 !.......2000-06-28
I've been looking for this record ever since I gave my vinyl copy away in something like 1970 ! This ultra moody set w/ Griffin, Julius Watkins et. al brings back the funky Paris apt I lived in in '63 with three other college guys. We used to go to "La Chat Qui Peche" club see Hank Mobley and Chet Baker , after loading up with some rather major league morroccan kif !Time stopped with this record, and I'm so happy they've re-released the original set !Johnny Griffin back then was known as a "speed demon" blower , but this has got to be one of the most soulful sets he ever made...NOT just mind-blowing technique here, but also some great writing !

Strong Studio Performance.......2002-07-08
It's truly amazing that a player like Gogo is not a major star! His playing is intense, technical and imaginative, while never becoming boring. His "Dine Under The Stars" Album features several of these cuts "LIVE". What a great guitarist with a super tight band!
Great rock/blues.......2001-04-24
"Change of Pace" is a great rock/blues album by David Gogo, known as one of Canada's finest blues guitar players.
The CD, produced by Barney Bentall and Colin Nairne, was recorded in British Columbia at Mushroom and Crosstown Studios and mixed at The Factory.
The rocking tone of the CD is established early with "Sad and Lonely", a Gogo composition, followed by the blues anthem "(It's All Over Now) Baby Blue", written by Bob Dylan. Along the way the audience is pampered with eleven super rocking blues tunes that include: "Change of Pace", "Mr. Slow", "Face in the Mirror" and "Butterfly Tattoo". Eight of the tunes were penned by Gogo.

This is great stuff! Some of the most moving music I've heard in a long time. You can hear true emotion in every song. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys GOOD music with substance.
What a talented musician!.......2001-07-05
Being a lifetime love of mine, I have always felt music is the eyes to the soul. Upon recommendation by a friend I purchased Jeff Burak's "Change of Pace" CD, and found myself sitting in total amazement at the quality of the music and the superb talent that was like none I had ever heard before. Jeff's guitar playing exudes many emotions and I would recommend everyone to purchase this CD. It is the most wonderful music I have ever experienced. Thank you Jeff for sharing your talent!
Great guitar music, great feeling vibe!.......2000-03-15
Jeff Burak's guitar music is wonderfully articulate and is wrought with genuine emotion. This is music you will "feel" as well as hear. I highly reccomend this CD to anyone who is looking for guitar music unlike any they've heard before.
