Named for the traditional Navajo song "Shi Ni Sha," I Am Walking collects the best of contemporary Native American music, blending the airy beauty of flutists Andrew Vasquez, Joseph Fire Crow, Gary Stroutsos, and R. Carlos Nakai with notable singers Joanne Shenandoah and the Coolidge family of Walela. The result is rich with the spiritual beauty of ancient Navajo, Hopi, Oneida, and other Native cultures. Too many bright spots dominate this collection to list them all, but among the most special goodies are Walela's "Wash Your Spirit Clean"--floating with angelic voices, sparkling guitar, and crisp percussion and drums--and "Oweegon" from Jim Wilson's Little Wolf Band, which sends Priscilla Coolidge's vocals and Native chant flowing over spicy electronic rhythms like cold water through river rocks. Good introduction ý not.......2001-10-25

Contrary to the opinion of some of the other reviewers on this page, `I Am Walking' is NOT the best place to start if you're interested in exploring contemporary Native American music. There are several other collections with much better selections of songs and artists that I believe are much more representative of Native American music today. This collection seems geared to fit into some kind of easy-listening market niche and it is markedly non-threatening to say the least. With the exception of a few nice tracks, especially a flute piece by Joseph Fire Crow, `I Am Walking' is hardly worth the money.

Good For The Soul.......2000-10-09

This music speaks to the soul.

A remarkable compilation of performances, this is a great introduction to music that is healing and joyful. "Lost Bird" is hauntingly beautiful, "Sacred Spirit" is a wonderful dream, and "Wash Your Spirit Clean" is bright and exuberant.

If you are just venturing into the realm of Native American music, this is a terrific place to start.

Captivating.......2000-08-19

It is difficult to find perfection in a collection of any type of music, and Native American is no exception. However, to pick and place all excellent songs on one CD is truly hard to believe!

Yet, this feat has been done with this CD. I have been selective in buying collections of Native American music, but this purchase was an excellent find? Close to gold in richness, and close to heaven in score, this CD is a fine work of art.

A Classic.......2000-06-04

Being one who buys music blindly, I couldn't pass this one up knowing that such greats as Andrew Vasquez, Gary Stroutsos, Joanne Shenandoah, etc. were on this masterpiece. I recommend this highly to anyone who would like to experience a variety of music.
