Sissel Kyrkjebø of Bergen, Norway, released this new-age/Folk title in conjunction with the 1994 Winter Games held in Lillehammer. The official theme of those games, 'Fire in Your Heart', appears in Norwegian ('Se ilden lyse') & English. 'Deep Within My Soul' also features two versions of 'Eg veit i himmerik' (Original & 1995 Remix) and more, plus the English translations of all song titles & a short description of each by the artist.

A must buy CD.......2001-06-19

I recently bought the CD, Innerst i Sjelen (Deep Within My Soul), and I love it! I listen to it a lot, and I can never get tired of it.

Being Danish i understand most of the Norwegian lyrics, but even if I didn't, I'd still be spellbound by the the way that Sissels voice and the music interact.

There is no doubt as to why the CD was entitled Deep Within My Soul. You can feel the sincerety through every track, the hymns, the dramatical folk songs and the slightly playful folk song (Stevtone).

If I should have to point to a favorite track, that would be very hard, because they're all great. The hymn, Awaken My Soul, is a commonly sung Danish hymn, even though we generally don't use the same melody as Sissel does with the lyrics, but I have come to love Sissels melody more and more.

Buy the CD - You won't regret it!

Beautiful album. Sissel has a speciel way of touching our hearts when she sings. For everyone who loves the voice of Sissel, I will recommend that you buy her new album - "All good things". Even better than this one..

Some of the best music I've heard........1999-12-27

Last Christmas, I was able to listen to Clannad, Maire Brennan, Enya,and Loreena McKennitt, as well as this CD. Out of them all, I liked this CD the most. Even though I don't understand Norwegian, this music seemed to speak for itself. The title track alone was very heavenly.

Lovely offering from one of the world's underated talents.......1999-06-04

Although I wonder why Amazon.com doesn't just offer the original Norsk "Innerst i Sjelen", I'm glad to see Sissel get some of the kudos she deserves. I've followed her career since 1986 when I bought my first compact disc ever, her self-titled debut album. With the exception of that first offering, "Deep" is certainly my favorite. It offers a wonderful fusion of Norwegian folk music with modern twists, and the simple, clear melodies that highlight her beautiful voice. My only gripe is the inclusion of Placido Domingo as a duet partner in the album's final track, a re-working of her Olympic "Fire in Your Heart"...his presence seems a bit misplaced. Still, a wonderful album highlighting a wonderful singer.

Innerst i sjelen with an English title........1999-05-19

Sissel gets five stars, but give Amazon.com no stars for offering this album. If you already have 'Innerst i sjelen' in your collection - give this one a pass. It is essentially that recording with an English language title. Caveat emptor, carpe diem and E pluribus unum!

This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!
