3 out of 5 stars Botched Engineering.......2007-08-02

As is typically on some reissues of great music, the final product is botched at the last minute. The music itself on Moving Targets is enough to earn five stars, and if you can put up the little glitches, than this is still worth the money for the updated sound.

On Illegal, Immoral, a couple of fine studio tracks kick off what is essentially a live, slightly comedic album. Some funny stuff, along with some fine music. Some of the content is enough to warrant an "Adult Advisory" sticker.

Moving Targets is simply a masterpiece. A classic album in every since, and a must have for any 70s collector. The remastered sound is bright and clear, and really brings the music alive.

Now for the bad. A number of cuts on Moving Targets end abruptly before the fade out, and on I,I&F, while some of the songs are supposed to segue into the next (because they are live), the engineer has added an annoying 2 second gap which breaks the track in mid stride. It boggles my mind how an engineer can spend weeks or months carefully remastering a classic piece of musically history, and then not spend just one more hour giving it a final listen before releasing it. Is quality control that dead?

5 out of 5 stars A must-have item for any TUBES fan!.......2006-03-18

It is so GREAT to have the TUBES on CD!
I have been a TUBES fan for decades-- yup, decades!
They've never sounded better than they do on CD.
Before purchasing this CD, my collection consisted of
mostly LP's. The CD's sound so much better.
It's great to be able to take the TUBES with me in my car too!
This CD has all of their best hits. If you are a TUBES fan,
you'll know all the words.
If you're not a fan yet, you will be after you hear this CD!

4 out of 5 stars Great stuff!.......2006-02-25

Great recordings from clean masters. These tunes are from my '70's high school days, and really bring back the fun.

I remember heading for the beach with the Tubes cranking out of the Ford Maverick...well, as much cranking as the puny tape players would go back then...with my buddy Ken and my girlfriend Debbie, as we all skipped 5th and 6th periods to go surfing!

I gotta buy the tubes "Live" album next, as it has the best versions of "White Punks on Dope" and "What Do You Want From Life" on it.

5 out of 5 stars ..JUST FLAT OUT REALLY GOOD,.......2005-08-20

OH MY GOD...THESE GUYS ARE JUST SO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE..ITS RIDICULOUS, ...I WOULD SAY NOW ..LOOKING BACK THAT PERHAPS THE TUBES WERE 'TOO GOOD' FOR THEIR OWN GOOD...THEY WERE BEYOND THEIR AUDIENCE AND EVENTUALLY THEY WOULD 'LIGHTEN UP' AND DO AS THE RECORD COMPANY WOULD SAY AND THIS WOULD JUST END UP KILLING THE TUBES AT THE END....BUT IN THE BEGINNING ...AND AS FAR UP TO 'REMOTE CONTROL'...FOR A LITTLE WHILE ON PLANET EARTH, THE TUBES MAY HAVE BEEN (LOUDLY TOO) REALLY THE GREATEST ROCK-ART-PROG BAND AROUND...AND LIVE THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY INSANE..."UP FROM THE DEEP" ---WOOOOWWW !! 5 out of 5 stars About Time!.......2007-06-04

T Shirt is new to me but I started this search a few years ago looking for FINAL EXAM and was so frustrated Loudon's earlier work was NOT released to CD yet.

Final Exam is everything you'd come to expect from an original songwriter with keen insight, a sense or irony, talent and the ability to laugh at himself and take those very faults and exploit them for all they're worth.

I hope he made a few bucks on this album and I hope he makes even more with this rerelease.
Although it didn't get me sober, it such as heck helped both before and after.

Yeah, his kids are talented but check out the original gene pool and take a dip - it's quite refreshing.

I rarely 5 star anything but out of gratitude this one deserves it - I was ready to buy the album, get the software and replace the needle on my turntable for this one. My original copy is DOGGED to death.

I hope I like T Shirt half as much as I like Final Exam - at any price, it's a steal of a deal.

5 out of 5 stars Some Of Loudon Wainwright's Best Work Ever !.......2007-06-03

Finally on CD in a nicely packaged 2 CD set. If you know Loudon from his 'Dead Skunk' or maybe his more current work you need to buy this. If you owned these on vinyl you need to buy this. If you never heard anything from LW III you should start here. I was unaware of the critical bashing that T Shirt took back in 1976. I bought it back then and I loved it, so who knew. Anyway he is in great form, his band and guests are in great form. Wonderful, wonderful stuff ! (not many artists can rhyme nembutal and alcohol and make it seem natural, LOL).

5 out of 5 stars What a Pleasure.......2007-07-18

It was such a pleasure to find this CD. Gravenites' voice is familiar from Electric Flag as is the guitar work from Mike Bloomfield. But the extended live performances allow both to do and show more than in studio recordings. Really some great, old-school 60's white-boy blues.

5 out of 5 stars my labors.......2007-07-03

This is really a great album. Any fan of Bloomfields earlier work, especially any Super Session fan should definately check out this one.

5 out of 5 stars Gravenites and Bloomfield.......2007-04-11

Nick Gravenites, a very underated singer, and Mike Bloomfield at the
top of his form, make this an unknown gem for lovers of the blues from
this seminal period.

5 out of 5 stars kick-arse blues.......2007-04-03

Bllomfied is incredible at bending the notes, not just playing them, and I plan on buying anything that he is on. I really see the music of Bloomfield as influencing bands like Double Trouble, Steely Dan, Allman Brothers etc, he is the precursor of Cracker Blues

5 out of 5 stars mikes golden hour.......2007-03-19

this cd makes me want to take my guitar and break it into little pieces.mike plays with emotion.his playing is really beyond words.buy this cd and youll want to break you guitar too.

2006 Issued Digitally Remastered Edition that Combines the Tracks of Two Original LP Classics on to a Single Compact Disc. The First Two Albums from Pure Praire League Are Two of the Best of the Country-rock Era and More Than Match the Artistry of their Contemporaries. Craig Fuller (Who Would Later Replace the Late Lowell George in Little Feat) and George Powell Composed Solid Classic Tracks for These Albums. But it was "Bustin' Out" that Achieved the Band's Biggest Success, with It's Rich Harmonies and the Commercial Acceptance of the Group's Hit "Amie", a Top 30 Chart Hit and Now a Popular Standard for Countless Cover Bands.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Great Music - mediocre remastering.......2007-06-17

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this CD as it combined the two wonderful Pure Praire League releases from the early Craig Fuller era. The bad news is that this is not the CD to buy if you really want Bustin' Out. Get the RCA Bustin' Out CD instead. It's a tad thin sounding, but both it and the original LP sound FAR better than this CD. But if what you're after is a CD of their self titled LP, this is it (unfortunately at twice the price).

The remastering is just awful on the Bustin' Out half. As with much of today's engineering, it is heavily compressed, sacrificing all to achieve more volume. Fuller's wonderful voice becomes mildy distorted and a band with a great clean acoustic/electric sound somehow actually winds up sounding muddy. Any sense of dynamics or nuance is pretty much gone from this mix. It's actually hard to see how this could happen... when a beautiful little quiet reflective vocal in a mellow rocker like Jazzman gets distorted, isn't it a sign that it's gone a little too far?

The remastering on the self-titled half of the CD isn't all that bad. It doesn't quite match up to the original record, but I would never have noticed if the Bustin' Out half wasn't so bad that I compared the other half. Anyway, I really wanted the self titled half so I'll take what I can get and I'm happy for it.

I guess that I just don't understand this current sound engineering compression fad. There is so much more to mixing and mastering than making it as loud as possible. All we really want to do with these 70's reissues is to replace our record collections, and we can all adjust the loudness with the volume knob. But what do we do when the mix has been wrecked?

p.s. pick up the All In Good Time Fuller/PPL CD. It's great to hear them back together and sounding fantastic. Purchase quickly... before it gets remastered!

5 out of 5 stars In a "League" of their own..........2007-03-16

When country met rock Pure Prairie League was there to answer the call. Although I am a fan of all their work, these two albums with Craig Fuller and the original line up are the best albums. It's a gem to have them both on the same cd. So if you are an old fan of the League or just getting started this cd is a must for you collection. The quality is great by the way...

5 out of 5 stars Classic Albums - Good Mastering.......2007-02-26

Both albums have been previously released in the USA - Bustin Out has been long available on RCA, in a thin and tin-box sounding CD that is one of the worst mastered CD's I've ever heard. The original LP was far superior. The Bustin Out tracks on RCA's PPL Greatest Hits (1999) were much better, and this CD's mastering is equal to that compilation's. The first PPL album was previously available on CD on the Renaissance label (1997) in a 2-fer with "If The Shoe Fits", and the mastering here is basically the same. A nice reissue of 2 essential and terrific 70's country rock albums by the definitive Pure Prairie League - with Craig Fuller up front.
~~~Also find the reissue of Craig's next 2 albums (with "American Flyer") on the Collector's Choice label, his work with Little Feat on "Let It Roll"/"Representing The Mambo"/"Shake Me Up" and the great new PPL album with Craig - "All In Good Time" (2006).
5 out of 5 stars No Horsing Around.......2006-12-30
One thing about getting old, you can look back on your life and realize which recordings had the biggest impact. It is a personal journey, one that may or may not make sense to anyone else. With that in mind, I am listing my five favorite albums of all time:
1. Buffalo Springfield (self-titled)
2. Poco - "Pickin' Up the Pieces"
3. John Stewart - "Cannons In the Rain"
4. Matthew's Southern Comfort - "Later That Same Year"
5. Pure Prairie League (self-titled)
When reviewing an album, it is important to give the reader a glimpse of where your musical tastes lie . . . or the review is somewhat pointless. I am not saying that these are the five best albums ever recorded, but I am saying that these recordings are the ones that had the biggest impact on me personally. I prefer the first Pure Prairie League album over the second, but they are both here for you to listen to and enjoy. I cannot imagine you not liking this CD, as it helped define what is truely great about country rock . . . rough edges and all. So yeah, I think it would definately be worthwhile to saddle-up, ride into the past, open-up those saddlebags, and dust these guys off.
5 out of 5 stars I Beg to differ!.......2006-12-12
I have to offer a rebuttal to A. Cushman's review of this release. Yes, I do agree that it's wonderful music. In fact, these two albums represent two of the finest country-rock albums ever made, and that's saying something considering some of the competition that would put them up against. But where Andy and I part company is on the sound quality of this disc. It is absolutely, definitely, far superior to the earlier domestic RCA release. I know, because I have both. Two years ago I wrote another review of the domestic version, in which I blasted RCA for turning out such a thin, tinny sounding piece of crap. When I first listened to this new remastered release, it was like a breath of fresh air. Unless RCA has remastered the newer domestic pressings without telling anyone (which I seriously doubt), there is no way you can listen to both and say that they sound alike. With all due respect, Mr. Cushman, what kind of system do you own? Maybe it's time for an upgrade!
That having been said, let me re-emphasize that this disc does indeed contain two very fine albums. The better of the two is "Bustin' Out", which contains what has to be the group's best known song, "Amie", bookended by the very beautiful, acoustic "Falling In And Out Of Love". My other personal favorite is "Early Morning Riser"-- a great song for cruisin down the highway on a warm sunny day with the windows down. This album is simply great, in my opinion. Their debut album, simply titled "Pure Praire League", is also included and also excellent-- though not quite as polished-- and contains a number of really great songs as well (my personal favorite being the melancholy "Harmony Song").
After those two albums came the very unfortunate departure of Craig Fuller, and the group and their music were never quite the same from that point on. Not genuinely bad, please understand, but definitely not the equal of what you'll hear here. This disc represents this band at its finest, the price is right, and it sounds great too. By all means, pass on the vastly inferior domestic version of "Bustin' Out" and go for this excellent 2-fer import. It's a far better value, and just plain more enjoyable to listen to. And enjoy it you will. If you're a fan of bands like Poco or the Eagles-- or quality country rock in general-- this is a must-have!
Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars Good Old Fashioned American Rock and Roll.......2007-04-11
I saw Terry and the Pirates play at the old Winterland in San Francisco and I was mesmerized. Later I learned that the band was composed of guys from other bands like Quicksilver, Van Morrison, Steve Miller & more who got together for the pure love of the music thus the name - Pirates, behind the songwriter Terry Dolan. The band has a disticntly Western American sound - but NOT country - this is pure Rock And Roll at it's best. Check it out.
5 out of 5 stars Either You Know or You Don't.......2007-03-25
If you're a fan of John Cipollina (and if you ever saw him play live or listened to one of his CDs, then you are a fan - no exceptions,) then you already have half of this CD under the title of Silverado Trail.
If you're a fan of John Cipollina, then you know that it is well worth spending $24.99 for a new CD's worth of material that has been appended to the original CD. Therefore, you have probably already put this in your cart before going on to read my one, lonely review.
If you've had no contact with John, then what are you doing on this page? However fate brought you here, you now have a chance to rectify a great wrong that has been done to you. Order this, listen to it, and like Paul on the road to Tarsus, your life will be changed forever. You will turn into an obsessive, tracking down what little there is generally, commercially available. Amazon has John's Raven (buy the one with the colorful cover as that also has extra tracks) and 1 copy of Problem Child. The easiest stuff to get will be the first 3 Quicksilver Messenger Service CDs: self-titled, Happy Trails, and Shady Grove. There's 1 decent track each in the next two then nothing worthwhile until Solid Silver and an old live show called Lost Gold and Silver. Under The Dinosaurs get Friends of Extinction.
Fate won't bring you here, though, unless your Karma is particularly good. If you're on this page you already own everything I've mentioned. Just in case, though, be prepared for your husband or your wife to start wondering why you are spending all of your time scouring the internet for things nobody else ever heard of. Why you suddenly discovered peer-to-peer downloading. Why your right hand starts vibrating back and forth when playing air guitar, rather than up and down holding an imaginary pick.
How do we get people to link to this? John was the living, breathing essence of Rock and Roll incarnarted in a human. I turned that into a tag and I'm sticking it on everything relevant.
You. You. Who do not know. Your eyes will never see but your ears can still hear. If you don't have problems breathing after it sinks in what you are hearing, then you have no feeling for Rock.
Apologies to Terry and Nick who are great, criminally underappreciated songwriters who gave John some of his best material to work with. And to Nicky, Link, Greg, Gregg, Doug, Roger, Al, and all of the great musicians - especially the criminally underrated Gary Duncan - who supported John in his reach for the stars.
John, who didn't seem to have an ego, always pointed out his co-players to me and he sincerely admired their work. As well he should have. While he did play occasional sets with some less than stellar friends as favors (did I mention what a flat-out NICE person he was?) he also gathered around him the best of the best.
    Another great album by Johnny. He stays true to blues and rock with this album.
    4 out of 5 stars Johnny still the best!.......2007-06-02
    Having been a Johnny Winter fan for the past 15 years, and having seen him several times, this album is a great collection for any Johnny Winter fan. It is not his best work, but a good CD non the less. Since it is a 3-piece band, which Johnny prefers, he makes the most of the songs albiet they are cover tunes. I especially like his version of Bob Dylan's "Like a rolling Stone". and "New York New York". The atmosphere of the album seems to be Johnny just having fun, which as we know is when Johnny plays his best guitar!
    4 out of 5 stars The Tubes' least appreciated LP improves with age.......2007-01-16
    While their self-titled debut album, Completion Backwards, Young and Rich, Outside Inside, and Remote Control were the best-selling Tubes LPs, the 1977 release "Now" might have been The Tubes' most musically-rich LP that demonstrated their musicianship best. Maybe that's why this LP sounds nearly as fresh today, unburdened by the obligation to include trendy sounds that date the music.
    5 out of 5 stars Tubes now is tops.......2006-07-21
    NOW was always my favorite Tubes record. It still sounds as fresh and wonderfull today (only without the scratches). Vince Welnick's piano work is unbelievable. The vocals are huge! Hit Parade is the best song they ever recorded. Looking forward to seing them in Dallas this september. RIP Vince!
    5 out of 5 stars Now the circle is complete.......2005-08-05
    The reviews that precede mine sum up quite nicely anything I would want to say about this long-overdue CD release.
    The Tubes never really got their due commercially. Their fanbase was rabid and their music was even critically respected in most circles. But to see "Now" languishing as a vinyl-only release for so many years was a shame. By finally letting "Now" see the light of day on CD, The Tubes and their fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief -- the band's entire legitimate catalog is now on CD and their status as a cult band finally has some long-overdue respectability in the marketplace.
    Or something like that.
    The album's title is also the answer to the question "When should I buy it?"
    5 out of 5 stars My Favourite Tubes album ever !.......2005-02-15
    Well it has been said before and I echo the sentiment here. It's about time !!! From the pespective of a long-time Tubes Fan, this album is probably one of the most underrated of The Tubes studio albums. The reason for this may be the lack of orchestral add-ins on the tracks. Granted, the result is RAW, but genuine, and NOW is definitely my favourite album by The Tubes.
    If you are a person who likes production, or should I say over production, then this album may not be for you - but if you are a connoisseur of music, then ignoring this album will probably be the worst thing you will do.
    Without going into a blow by blow account of every track, I will say that the quality of the tracks is consistant, and the musicianship as ever is sterling.
    You will be surprised at the diversity of music here, you hear soulful songs (Golden Boy) alongside the weird and wonderful (God Bird Change and Cathy's Clone) Other songs remind us of former decades (besides the 70s) This Town and Hit Parade. I am always pleased when a band writes its own material, and am rarely impressed by cover versions, but "My head is my only House" - a Captain Beefheart song is done very well indeed. If you particularly like lyrics, why not listen to I'm just a mess, a Roger Steen masterpiece and Pound of Flesh - hilariously touching.
    Their musical diversity is refreshing, lamentable though it was for the music industry, who wanted to categorise them.
    My personal favourites are "Strung Out on Strings" - "a six string rock dream rockabilly lullaby" - which is no lullaby, "God Bird Change" - an instrumental with an exotic latin rhythm interlude flanked by eletro-rock perfection. Once again, Mike Cotton's sound effects are complementary to this track and "Smoke" - which still remains a strong song. Once again, don't expect these tracks to be put together songs that you find in the Top 40, you'll be disappointed.
    HOWEVER, if you are looking for something "different but good to listen to", then give this album a listen. The Tubes may have forged their reputation on their Stage show antics, but if you take a closer look, the Music is a real treasure!
    I gave this five stars because of the pleasure this album has given me for decades. If the music on an album can do that, it's got to be worth 5 stars.
    5 out of 5 stars 21 years after CD format is launched NOW is here at last.......2005-01-08
    Well, against all odds it has finally happened. I had given up hope of the third studio album from The Tubes ever appearing on CD - after all, the world needed hundreds of reissues of cruddy lounge albums of insignificant provenance a lot more than it needed a cult rock masterpiece by a band with some chart hits to their name, didn't it? Even an email exchange between myself and former Tubes Genius manqué Bill `Sputnik' Spooner led to him concluding that the album would never appear on CD. But 21 years after the format first appeared, NOW has finally been issued on CD. And boy, does it sound amazing....
    `Now' was the successor to the dynamic, sleek and satirical `Young and Rich', which had appeared in 1976. With the intention of taking the group back to its bar band roots, producer John Anthony and The Tubes themselves for the first time generally eschewed the orchestral backings, string sections and jazz sessioneers they had used to pad out their grandiose rock sound when making their first two albums. Such embellishments had clearly been problematic for some listeners, who found The Tubes sound too big: it seemed that only the cognescenti understood - The Tubes were grandiose in the best psych-prog technoflash punk manner possible, rather than merely pompous like the ranks of popular yet abhorrent artists who comprise the canon of Rock Music For Those Who Don't Like Rock Music (Yes, I'm talking about Queen and Meatloaf here, amongst others). The Tubes were in the same class as Alice Cooper instead, presenting audiences sophisticated in their understanding of both crudity and truly original musical composition by world-class stylists with flavoursome Rock Grandeur rather than crass, hollow chorus-driven `anthemic' pomp.
    But it was nevertheless time for a change and the arrangements and production of `Now' gave the band space to show what they could do, especially with acoustic guitars and piano. Compared to `The Tubes' and `Young and Rich', the album is intimate in its sound: this is down not only to the arrangements, but the subject matter of the songs. While the laugh-out-loud content of the Tubes satire was not always as explicit on record as many would have it (many tracks needed to be heard- and seen - in the context of the groups' legendary stunt-prop-costumer-character stageshows for the humour to be understandable, while a handful were very funny in themselves -e.g. `Proud To Be An American'), `Now' pushed the dark humour of the group further into the background, revealing an existential blackness that had always been there, but that had been offset by the optimism and colour of some songs (like Roger Steen's fantastic `Haloes' and `Brighter Day').
    The album opens with `Smoke', a piano driven meditation on the desperation of the singles bar scene that is as bleak in tone as (yet moodier in execution than) Roxy Music's `Love is the Drug'. Vince Welnicks' ivory tinkling on the album is his finest work and this and the following number (the gorgeously melodic pop ballad `Hit Parade) are dominated by the great mans' piano work, which is worth comparing to that of Mike Garson (on Bowie's `Aladdinsane' and `1.Outside') and Dave Formula (the great keyboardist of Magazine, whose piano on `Real Life' and `Secondhand Daylight' should be heared by all devotees of rock pianaa). `Smoke' is only 4:50 here - on the live album that followed in 1978, it was expanded to an eight minute workout of staggering intensity.
    Fee Waybill takes lead vocals on these first two cuts, then Sputnik himself takes over for `Strung Out On Strings', a simple tale of a boys' love for his guitar that is embellished throughout with beautiful electric and acoustic riffs and solos from Bill and Roger. Ecastatic, longing and fun, the song is a perfect illustration of The Tubes at their most poignant: it is both amusing and heartfelt, yearning and triumphant, a kaleidoscope of emotion. Next up is a great acoustic blues number `Golden Boy': even if you are unconvinced by the soulfulness and `authenticity' of the blues as yammered on about by boring critics and musicians for the last few decades, this will still get you - to hear Fee Waybill singing blues is really something.
    The original side one closes with a cover of Captain Beefheart's `My head Is My Only House Unless It Rains', sung by Sputnik, whose velvety-rough voice is filled with earnest longing. Special mention here for synthesist Mike Cotten, who contributes some of his most delicate and moving work, proving that there was more to his quicksilver talent than some of the most amazing noise effects ever pulled out of analogue electronics. The simple effectiveness and clean inventiveness of drummer Prairie Prince also pays dividends on this gentle cut: given the power and precision of Prairie's work, not to mention the instantly recognisable fills that set him apart as a drummer not only of chops but style, it is easy to forget he is capable of superb subtlety as well as piledriving strength that rivals John Bonham and Paul Thompson.
    Side two (as was) opens with jazz-prog-latin psych-fest instrumental `God Bird Change', credited to the newest member at that time - Mingo Lewis became the ninth Tube and his incisiveness on percussion (he played in Santana for a while) was perfect compliment for the exacting skills of the rest of the group. More Weather Report than Utopia, `God Bird Change' became a live tour de force and here it is suitably inspiring also, giving Cotten and Welnick room to stretch out, riff, beep and solo before Mingo himself shows us what he can do on congas and bongers on the breakdown.
    Next up is the sublime single `I'm Just A Mess', another fine Roger Steen composition. Rog takes the lead vocal on this tender tale of a shy guy searching for love in the autumn. I generally find this cut to be indescribably moving, especially when Sputnik comes in (with his voice at its most gravel-like) on the "stay with me baby" refrain. Beautiful melodies and lyrics, great guitars, some nice whitenoise synth from Cotton and the superb vocal arrangements and close harmonies with Fee, Sputnik and Roger, their vocals meshing brilliantly make this my fave Tubes single.
    Re Styles finest moment comes up next: the bizarre `Cathy's Clone' is as chilling and theatrical as vintage Alice Cooper and benefits from Beefheartian soprano sax and sleazy guitar that threatens to slide off the groove. Re's voice is here at its most unusual and is a great foil for early material by Blondie: shame she never sung many Tubes numbers.
    `This Town' is a great show tune, the only track on the album with horns and strings: superb synths and Fee's theatrical delivery carry the number until its great swinging finale where the dystopian attitude of the band comes through (`it's a miserable town...a nowhere town...it's the pits...), the words so at odds with the jazzy flourish of the tune. `Pound of Flesh' is more typical of earlier Tubes material in its jokey but ass-kicking rock approach and Cotton again dominates, his synth bursts staggeringly powerful, but his finest moment is yet to come when on closing track `You're No Fun' he puts his instruments through some impressive changes in the opening buildup of the song that still leaves me breathless: after over 20 years of fiddling with analogue synth myself, I still do not know how he does it.
    So that's `Now' : dark, beautiful, grim and uplifting in its intensity. The most underrated album by one of the most underrated bands in history, a work of staggering genius. Originally intended to be a concept album (though what it's about, no-one seems sure of, even the band, who say the concept fell apart during the recording), `Now' was the last great recording studio gasp from The Tubes before a more commercial approach beckoned. Just buy it....
    Customer Reviews:
    4 out of 5 stars I'm Satisfied...Almost.......2007-08-06
    It was with great delight that I purchased this CD. As a long-time John Hammond fanatic, I waited a long time for this release. Normally, by virtue of Hammonds singing and guitar/harp playing, I would give this release a 5-star review. That being said, The Source Point portion of this release is classic John Hammond. The all-around performance is brilliant. It's the I'm Satisfied portion that I have a little trouble with. While John's performance is fine to very good, Delaney Bramletts production seems a little cluttered. While Bramlett has been a fine producer for other artists (i.e.Eric Clapton), he seems to have taken a mis-step with Hammond. Hammond band recordings sound better in a more traditional setting, not the tambourine-shaking,R'n'B Gospel mode that Delaney favored in those days. Still, if you're a big John Hammond fan, you're going to like this CD. How about 4 and 1/2 Stars?
