Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Disney's greatest hits, volum 3.......2007-05-13
This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them
Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Customer Reviews:
Good deal..........2007-07-19
I'm so proud that I got this amazing album at just half the original price over Amazon. Talk about perfect timing! :D It was listed as one of the indie classics, and Amazon was kind enough to offer them all at the incredible price of $9.99. It was like... only a couple of months ago? Makes me sad to see the price gone all the way back up to $18.98...
The first, record from the great SM.......2007-07-14
When I first bought this album, five years ago, I knew very little about indie/punk rock. I was into Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Nine Inch Nails (all great bands, but hardly uncommon preferences). I hated it. I found it boring, noisy, and uninteresting...
One year later, I stumbled upon the discs, and thought I'd give them a second chance. All I could think was, "What the hell was wrong with me, back then." The openning track, "Summer Babe" is a shining example of amazing lo-fi indie rock. "Here" is a beautiful, downtrodden ballad. Full of lyrics that start off nice, then a split second later, become rather depressing - "I was dressed for success... But Success, it never comes." And "Perfume V" is a small but very clear window into Stephen Malkmus' undeniable ability to write a good, solid pop song.
This album defines late 80's-early 90's underground rock. It helped birth bands like Weezer and Bright Eyes. If you already own the original release, you're probably a fan, and should get this for the extra thirty-something tracks. If you've never heard pavement, don't start here. Try something more palpable, first. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Terror Twilight are excellent records and are very listenable. Start there, then get this.
Could not be any better.......2007-05-21
All I can say about this CD is that it is an incredible value. You get one of the best albums of the 90's(Slanted and Enchanted), one of the best EP's of the 90's (Watery, Domestic), a short but highly energetic great sounding live show, and a bunch of outakes........However if you have not heard tracks 20-23 on disc 1, you have not heard lofi Indie. These 4 tracks define lofi at it's best. If I could only have 5 albums on the proverbeal dessert island this would be one of them. AND IT'S ONLY 9.99!! Amazing!!!
What is there to say about Pavement?.......2007-04-18
Pavement represents for most what "indie" rock sounds like: witty, ironic, clever pop songs wrapped in guitar noise. Steve Malkmus created some very catchy tunes like the lead song off the album (it has a killer bass-line!). The guitar noise squelches are very good and are on par with those of the Jesus and Mary Chain. To me, Pavement, on this album, sounds like a poppier and funnier version of the Jesus and Mary Chain.
A truly great album is both innovative and stands the test of time (at the time of this review it is nearly 15 years). While I doubt that this album was truly innovative (see Psychocandy and White Light/ White Heat) it did spark a revolution in the world of indie rock, much like REM's Murmer album in the early 1980s.
To fans of noisy pop music, like myself, this album is wonderful. Pavement may have made better albums (see Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain) but this album is great and stands up to the test of time almost perfectly (this record smells of the 1990s but maybe that isn't that bad). Don't let this record's faint aura of indie-rock-hipster "greater than thou" elitism get in the way of your listening pleasure. I highly recommend this recording from Pavement.
Crucial Indie.......2007-01-28
Quite possible the best indie albums you'll ever come across (not to mention that fact that your getting two crucial fresh albums for the price of one.) I stumbled upon this a few years ago at the suggestion of a friend: no media hype influence what so ever. With me some songs jump out at you and some grow on you over time. Summer babe, here, and in the mouth of a desert are some of their 'hits' while trigger cut, two states, perfume v, fame throwa, our singer, mecy snack, my first mine, baptist blacktick, my first mine, nothing ever happens, kentucky cocktail, secret knowledge, frontwards, and so stark all have a carisma to them (alot of which are pop songs in their own goofy and/or sophisticated way) that make this album worth buying twice. It's not a masterpiece in the way it's compiled and transitions from song to song, but, there are so many substantially effective and well developed songs here that stand strong on their own. There's more melodies and stoner rock than you can shake a stick at. You can definitely pick up on pavementisms that weezer later incorporated into their sound. There's a good chance that these songs will grow on you. If not you can just pick up weezer's blue album and enjoy the corporate driven commercial version of pavement.
side note: other than westing these are the only pavement songs with predominant lofi punk influece (IE the fall)

The California girl who wanted to be a Welsh witch has always been best when her mysticism and mooniness has been offset by harder-headed collaborators. Though this box set doesn't include the Fleetwood Mac stuff that made her name, it does pull together curious stuff she's done elsewhere: pre-Mac work with Lindsey Buckingham from the Buckingham Nicks days, duets with the likes of Tom Petty and Don Henley, and a few soundtrack numbers. The first two discs have everything worth saving from her five solo albums (actually, one disc would have done that too, though "Edge of Seventeen" appears in a live version rather than the hit), plus some B-sides, and the third has rarities and obscurities, including an enlightening demo of "Rhiannon." --Douglas Wolk

Definitive Stevie Nicks, right up through 1998.......2006-08-15
Seeing as how Stevie has only released one album since 1998, the excellent _Trouble in Shangri-La_ in 2001, I think one won't go far wrong by getting that album and this box set (in fact Amazon makes it easy for you by offering just such a deal!) I said "box set" but that's a misnomer; this is really a booklet-set, with the three CD's set in the inside covers of a 64-page booklet crammed with photos in color and B&W (many of them previously unpublished when the compilation originally came out) and a complete set of lyrics for all the songs. The first two discs contain all of Stevie's solo singles (with the notable exception of "Sometimes It's A Bitch", her single off the 1991 greatest-hits compliation _Timespace_; I seem to remember Stevie saying that she really hated that title and released the song chiefly at the urging of her label executives) and B-sides, including several non-album songs that have never before been released on CD. The third disc is where a Stevie fan really hits the jackpot, because here one finds demos, unreleased songs, rare tracks from movie soundtracks, the famous "Golden Braid" which was long a staple of her live sets (here we see that the real name of the song is "Gold and Braid") and even a cover of Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'" with Stevie on guitar!
As a Stevie fan for over 20 years, I simply can't say enough good things or heap enough praise on this superb collection. If you're at all interested in Stevie Nicks, buy this item today!
For the big fan.......2006-03-31
I've always liked Stevie's songwriting and her performances. This set gives you just about everything she has done in her solo career. There's nothing deep here but the melodies are all great.
If you're an obsessive fan then you have to have this set. A casual fan will do fine with 'Timespace', a single disc of her greatest hits.
for all stevie fans.......2006-01-26
This is a great set, even for fans like me, who have most of Stevie's albums already. It's a great collection of her "greatest hits" and also some unreleased stuff I had never heard, which became instant favorites. The book is SPECTACULAR with awsome witchy pictures spaning her entire career, and a note from Stevie which was very sweet, as well as an essay about her amazing career.
Even if you are a die hard Stevie fan, I still recommend this box set, I love it.

Must Have!!.......2006-01-12
I bought this box set back when it first came out. I was in high school at the time and had to sweet talk my dad into some cash. It was worth it. I was introduced to Stevie, as most of us where, through Fleetwood Mac but it has been her solo work that has become the soundtrack to my life. I dont' take that lightly. Her songs have gotten me though days I thought would never end. I know it sounds corny but her voice has the rare ability to calm me and her words to inspire me. Few people find an artist that can truly touch there soul with there work and I feel greatful to have found Stevie. I wish that feeling for everyone. I actually am going to buy another copy of the box set as I have worn out my 3 cds. I didn't know you could wear them out!! I also suggest the soundtrack to Pratical Magic for all Stevie fans. If you purchase it simply for the Stevie songs "Crystal" and "If You Ever Did Believe" it is totally worth it. Those are 2 of my favorite Stevie songs. If you love Stevie you will love this box set and even if your just a Mac fan it's worth the buy.

The angelic half of Simon & Garfunkel may seem predictable in following Rod Stewart and other Baby Boomers on a romp through the Great American Songbook, but Art would have us think his foray is more inspired, more poetic than that, as he sprinkles the inside of his CD jacket with a series of confessional statements. In the first, he informs us he made the album under the "sway" of Chet Baker and Johnny Mathis, and in the second gives even pretentious novelist Jeanette Winterson a run for her money: "It wasn't Monet, it was France; It's not what we say, but the dance we're in." All right, then, but Some Enchanted Evening should also come with a warning sticker: Do not play while operating heavy machinery. In a cotton-soft voice, Garfunkel moves through works by Johnny Mercer, George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, and Rodgers and Hammerstein as if he's the spokesperson for Prozac Nation. One may applaud his Everyman's approach to material "owned" by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Rosemary Clooney, but he has tried to build a bridge over... well, not troubled, but complex and emotionally swirling waters, and in this framework, he simply hasn't the phrasing or the interpretative moxie to pull it off. When he sings "I'm so in love" on "Easy Living," he's so passionless he might as well be wooing a canary; likewise, his take on "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" sounds positively lobotomized. Producer Richard Perry (Barbra Streisand, Carly Simon, Garfunkel's own 1975 Breakaway) tries to compensate by updating the approach--employing synth strings, for example, instead of an orchestra--and tweaking the arrangements with contemporary fusion. But even that is wrong-headed: A pedal steel guitar should not be in the same universe with a clarinet. What were they thinking? --Alanna Nash
Album Description
On this album, this legendary vocalist lends his artistry to some of the best loved and most sophisticated selections in the American popular songbook.
Customer Reviews:
Exquisite Grace.......2007-05-29
"Some Enchanted Evening" touches me with Art's loving renditions of these songs, most of which I have heard by other artists. Art's vocals embrace the lyrics and wrench deep meaning from them. On the Irving Berlin classic "What'll I Do," his quiet vocals are familiar territory for anyone who has ever tried to mend from a broken heart, "What'll I do with just a photograph to tell my troubles to?" I was not familiar with Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)." Art's version is quintessentially romantic, like a sweet Brazilian embrace, "I who was lost & lonely, believing life was only a bitter tragic joke have found with you the meaning of existence, oh my love." What ambrosia! The Harold Arlen song "Let's Fall in Love" is reinvigorated with Art's breezy vocals hitting the higher register and Maia Sharp's gorgeous sax solo sending the track into the stratosphere. There are many other excellent performances on this delightful CD like the Gershwins' "Someone to Watch Over Me" & the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic that is the title track. This is a mellow mood CD, but done with such exquisite grace that it can't help but put a smile on your face. Enjoy!
Buy This CD Without Hesitation!.......2007-05-05
Alanna Nash - shame on you for such a nasty review of this exquisite CD - who lit the fuse to your tampon the day you wrote such trash. As a fan for many years of Art, I find his voice to be in superlative form for this endeavor, and the orchestrations are gorgeous without overwhelming his well-known calming voice. It's true, others have benefited by producing Rod Stewartesque compilations, mostly unsuccessfully. These songs are fresh and new again with a style only Art could give. What were the producer's thinking you ask?... perhaps that us yuppies, who like this style of music and can AFFORD to buy would enjoy! They were right on.
A New CD by Art is ALWAYS worth waiting for!..........2007-04-03
...and this one is no exception! Like so many other singers today...Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt and Barry Manilow among them...Art Garfunkel has recorded a complete album of the great standards, and these songs fit his timeless voice just beautifully! What is so amazing is that Art's voice just doesn't seem to age! He sounds pretty much the same as he did on the first Simon and Garfunkel LP "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M."! There isn't one track here that will dissapoint...every one is a winner! For those who aren't aware, there is a special pressing of this CD sold only at Target stores that features a bonus track called "While We're Young". This is a really nice tune as well, so go down to Target if you can and get this great CD with the extra track!
Exquisite Vocals, As Always; A Real Pleasure.......2007-03-24
Art Garfunkel's first release since 2002's stunning Everything Waits to Be Noticed takes us on an entirely different sort of musical journey. His previous effort offered Art's first tentative ventures into songwriting, with excellent results; on the new disc, he dips into The Great American Songbook, as contemporaries as diverse as Rod Stewart, Linda Rondstadt and Cyndi Lauper have done before him. What emerges is another fine album. Even at age 65, Artie has maintained his magnificent high tenor, which is as soaring and heart-stopping now as it was forty-some years ago. It is upon the timeless beauty of that voice that "Some Enchanted Evening" is built. Critics have complained that these renditions lack the swaggering emotional bravado that the likes of Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett (among others) have brought to this same material. While there is some validity to this observation, it is beside the point. Set to pristine arrangements by veteran producer Richard Perry (Breakaway), Garfunkel's voice shines. He makes these songs his own. Blessed with such an instrument, he need do no more.
Art is true art!.......2007-03-20
Great album for the now gen. Haven't heard music like this. newly recorded, in years. Very good vocalization by the oldtimer! Recommend highly.

Love it!.......2007-07-13
Really a great album blending chants with new age. Very peaceful to listen to. If you like ENIGMA, then this is the style for you!
Goth Chant + Electronica + Trance.......2007-06-07
Enchanted Spirits by Magna Canta features the pleasant combination of Gregorian chant with electronica and sensual grooves.
1. Aethera a El Terra - Chant melded with melodic, slow trance rhythms peppered with an awesome groove. Male and female choral chants are utterly glorious. (5 Stars)
2. Hymns - Smooth and lively, this track melds sounds of pipe organs with rhythmic beats. I'm not crazy about the female vocalist saying stuff like "You are far away but still so close. Why did you go?" Still, this is a gentle, soothing groove. (3 Stars)
3. Agnus Dei - Moderately paced electronica with male and female chants, some of this song seems repetitive, but still lovely. (4 Stars)
4. Cantandus - Stars off with a soaring female vocal chant then goes into an awesomely ethereal groove. Expansive and spacey, but grounded with softly insistent synths. (5 Stars)
5. Silentium - Male chorals with a foreboding, tentative beat. (The heavy breathing ala Darth Vader is a bit off putting to say the least!) Then, the tempo picks up with female chorals overlapping a danceable beat. The male chorals "answer"--and there's a nice change-up in rhythm towards the end. (4 Stars)
6. Recordare - This song also begins a bit ominously, but then switches to a happier melody with female and male chorals. Relaxing. (3 Stars)
7. Offizium - Epic sounding--I could heard this song as part of a space movie score. I like how it picks up the pace towards the end, finishing with lilting synths and piano. (3 Stars)
8. Ritmo - Begins with a glorious male chant. This song reminds me of Enigma. Very cool chill out with synth flutes and cascading keyboards. The male chant is the real star of this song. What ruins the song for me, though, is a man whispering "Be quiet--big boys don't cry". It seemed out of place to me. (3 Stars)
9. Gregoria - Rousing male choral with wild dance beat. In fact, the insistent beat is a bit TOO much, but the unusual jungle-like synth effects add interest. Midway, a very cool synth section reminds me a bit of Eiffel 65. (3 Stars)
10. Alleluia - Begins with some chant and flutes, but then some guy with an indecipherable accent begins too talk--sounding a lot like the boozy Captain Jack. The beat is so pronounced, it's almost headache inducing. It's certainly not a danceable tune even by trance standards, and the beat is enervating. (2 Stars)
11. Spiritus Sanctus - Brisk, ethereal tune that flows into an intriguing climax that breaks out into a poppy, upbeat celebration of what's highest and best in mankind. Lovely chorals--but by this point, the pounding beat has all but given me a headache. If they'd only toned down the heavy beats in the foreground and allowed the voices and high-end synths do all their glorious work! It would have made for a truly triumphant song. (3.5 Stars)
12. Sancta Maria - Sounds of surf and gently crashing waves that flow into a slow groove with a way-too-chipper fluttering of instruments. (3 Stars)
In conclusion, if the rest of the songs would have matched the caliber of the first song, this would have been an outstanding CD. However, some of the disparate elements make the CD never wracking by its end--rather than relaxing or pleasantly energizing.
Disappointed .......2007-05-13
The prior reviews built up expecations not met by the actual music. I like the other guys better. I gave this album to my daughter who will listen to anything.
a great imitation.......2007-04-16
This CD is a thorougly enjoyable hybrid of mystical Gregorian chant and sensual electronic rhythms. Many previous reviews have compared Magna Canta with Enigma, which is certainly justified. However, the comparison is really only applicable to Enigma's first album (MCMXC A.D.). That being said, Magna Canta's style is strikingly similar to what you will find on MCMXC. In fact, If I heard the songs Ritmo and Alleluia (two of the songs on "Enchanted Spirits") without knowing the artist, I would swear that Enigma created them.
So as you can see, Magna Canta is not really breaking any new ground here. However, the music on this album is very high quality. It's one of the few CD's where I don't mind listening to the whole thing over and over. If you like music that is spiritual, mysterious, sensuous and timeless, this CD is for you. Thanks to Magna Canta for picking up where Enigma left off.
Magnificent.......2007-03-08
I thoroughly enjoy this CD. I've recently gotten into music that combines the classical (or, in this case, medieval) with techno, and this album does not disappoint. My only complaint, and the reason it doesn't get that fifth star, is that the techno is somewhat un-inventive. Take for comparison the electronic beats in albums by Paul Schwartz or Deep Forest and you'll easily see the difference. That said, it is still great fun to listen to.

Album Description
"Ella Enchanted" showcases a hot lineup that includes the film's star, Anne Hathaway, who makes her singing debut by appearing on teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney's rendition of the Elton John/Kiki Dee hit "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart." Hathaway also performs bouncy covers of the 1976 Leo Sayer smash "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" and the 1977 Queen hit "Somebody To Love." All three tracks were recorded specifically for the film.
Additional highlights on "Ella Enchanted" include new tracks by singer-songwriter Darren Hayes, formerly of Savage Garden, ("Strange Magic"), punk-poppers Stimulator ("Magic"), rising new star Kari Kimmel ("It's Not Just Make Believe") and Radio Disney faves Jump 5 (who contribute a cover of the Katrina & the Waves' top ten hit "Walking on Sunshine"). Ella Enchanted also features "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson's stirring rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Respect," Disney star Raven's "True To Your Heart," Bryan Adams & Andrea Remanda duet ("If You Believe") and the Beu Sisters' "Once Upon A Broken Heart."

It's a great way for kids to listen to our music....and if you watched the movie, you will enjoy it more.
disappointment.......2007-05-08
had bought cd for daughter with the hope it would have titles that were in movie, but that's not the case. sounds just like a typical walt disney teenie mix...
Great songs!.......2007-04-19
After watching the movie, I knew I gotta get the soundtrack. The songs are great for easy listening and easy to sing to.
No score.......2007-04-09
"Original Soundtrack" it says on the tin, yet there's only one track of the original score. Most soundtrack enthusiasts buy soundtrack for the original score written for the film, in this case masterfully written by Nick Glennie-Smith. This soundtrack provides only the track "Score Suite by Sean Devel", and the rest is more or less your run-of-the-mill compilation pop album.
A decent soundtrack should contain as much as possible of the original score written especially for the movie, and maybe two or three special songs performed by the actors in the movie. This soundtrack does not deliver and is not recommended for soundtrack lovers.
Enjoyable Danceable Soundtrack .......2007-01-31
I bought this soundtrack for my 8 year old daughter. She loves it. Her 12 year old friend loves it too. I even find myself singing along. Several songs are remakes of 1970's tunes so I can relate. The remakes are done well. My only gripe is that the music played during the Giant's wedding scene is not included on the cd - I loved that beat!

Grows on you........2007-07-10
I was infected by Enchanted Sea in the sixth grade 1972 (blame my parents).
It sounds corny today, but it's nostalgic for me. Just pretend you're "back in the day".
When I play it my kids grab their stuffed toys and bird puppets,
then whenever they hear some tropical critter in the background they squeeze their toys on cue as if they were people in the band "playing" the exotic sounds "live" using real animals.
MUSIC TO MY OLD EARS.......2007-03-17
THAT VILLAGE IS ANYTHING BUT QUIET...BUT GREAT CLASSIC MARTIN DENNY SOUND
Classic style 60s Hawaiian music.......2007-03-09
I purchased this CD for my parents. They had these albumns when I was a kid and loved them. Martin Denny presents Hawaiian influenced music in a easy listening, soothing style.
quiet village cd.......2005-07-28
Great easy listening music with the sound of birds and the tropics--puts you in the relax mode.
QUIET VILLAGE MARKS MARTIN DENNY.......2005-07-16
Perhaps what he's best known for, Quiet Village is an alltime classic marking the exotic islands fad of the fifties. At this time "Islands" tropical food restaurants sprang up with rocks, bamboo, streams and tropical prints with bird calls and Martin Denny music. Denny and Lyman surely made their mark of the enchanted islands. This was post-war America when people needed that lift--relaxation into peace was MD's tropical island gift.

Ditto....Astronomy & E.T.I. recorded in Columbus, GA not Atlanta.......2007-07-26
I think the cd/dvd is great...glad to see some nostalgic video footage... Thanks to JP Zappa Fan for pointing out that "E.T.I." and "Astronomy" are actually from a show in Columbus, GA," ....You are absolutely right..I was there..still have my ticket stub.....prior to the show an automobile accident occurred wherein a BOC tour 18 wheeler plummeted into the Chattahoochee river in Columbus taking with it alot of BOC gear, i.e. laser lights, Godzilla blowup dolly and God knows what else. It threw the band off schedule and they did not actually play the scheduled night but did the show later in the week... A little bit of nostalgia for the old folks.... Great CD..buy it.
Kick out the jams!.......2007-07-21
This new release of Blue Oyster Cult's - Some Enchanted Evening on CD is just what I was looking for. My original cassette tape had been in action for over 25 years and it died on me. Since this is one of my favorite albums I jumped at the chance to get this disc and I'm very satisfied with it. My only complaint would be that most of the songs added to this release (the first 7 songs are the original album) don't sound as good. The lead guitar isn't as piercing. Tracks 8 and 9 are great but the material recorded from the Detroit concert isn't very good. The lead guitar is toned down. I WAS STILL VERY HAPPY TO GET THIS BACK INTO MY COLLECTION. I would have bought it for the orignial tracks 1 to 7. Getting the rest was a bonus. The DVD's picture quality kind of sucks. Hey! It was the late 70's. I shouldn't expect so much.
BOC LIVE!!!.......2007-04-07
I love BOC and have all their cd's... This is one of my favs. Starts with RU ready to rock, and astronomy is one of the best versions out there. Godzilla is good, and DFTR is the quintessintial version. Great sound and great lead guitar. The inclusion of the animals tune is fantastic, and with the extras now tacked on (Born to be wild is awesome), this is a great live document of a great live band. The dvd is extra filler - but is still good stuff considering the lack of decent live boc. Careful to not let the laser hit your eyeball when you listen to this cd... it is great!!!
At long last..........2007-04-04
Rarely do I grant 5 stars to a CD. But this one has earned it. Initially released as a cut- up mini live album in the late '70's, Some Enchanted Evening finally gets it's due, with the full length treatment. A definitive live collection from a hard touring band, concert versions of "ME 262" "Harvestor of Eyes" and "Born to be Wild" had me salivating like a Pavlovian dog. I felt as if I were right there at the concert. Buck Dharma's lead guitar lines pierced my ears like 10,000 needles. This is BOC the way you remember them, laser light shows, full throttle energy, and Loud. After seeing the band perform countless times in the '80's and '90s, it just seems to me that there was a certain chemistry with the 5 original members. Listen carefully to the interaction between bass and drums. then filter in the guitars and then vocals. An amazing experience. Classic.
Good re-release but perfectionists look elsewhere.......2007-04-03
I must say that I don't understand some of the criticism of this DVD!!! I think it deserves at least 4 stars simply because of the era in which it was recorded/filmed. Not only is it far superior to the "Live in 1976" BOC DVD, I can easily think of a dozen DVDs from the late 1990s to today that don't sound or look as good as this one. So, you obsessives used to modern releases need to get over yourselves when it comes to the limited quality of much of the stuff from the 60s, 70s and even early 80s and appreciate it for what it is. Remember, not every band had Led Zep's or the Stone's recording budgets!!
As for the new version Of "Some Enchanted Evening"....where to begin!!! I was quite excited to hear of its release not only because it's one of my favorite BOC albums; I was at the Fox Theater show in Atlanta that two of the songs were recorded at. So, naturally, I was curious as to where the bonus tracks were recorded, but, even more importantly - where the DVD was filmed!!!
And, therein begins the problem!! First, I think someone wasn't paying close attention to the original record because only 2 songs on the original are from Atlanta; "R.U. Ready 2 Rock" and "Kick Out the Jams" - "E.T.I." and "Astronomy" are actually from a show in Columbus, GA, 2 nights earlier.
But, according to the new booklet, all 4 are from the Atlanta show!! Oh well, I could make some joke about Yankees thinking Atlanta IS all of GA, but I think this is a simple oversight on someone's part. One thing I DO know is that they are the EXACT SAME recording of "Astronomy", good `ole Buck Dharma never plays the exact same solo twice, I don't think he can!! So either the original release, or this new one, is wrong. And considering the original 1978 release had the name of the venue as well as the date and city, I'm betting on it's correctness over this new re-release!!! And, to answer my initial question, none of the additional tracks are from my Atlanta show and the DVD was filmed in Landover, MD.
And my initial viewing of the DVD may help to explain some of the bad reviews......as much as I love BOC I have to agree that it's not all THAT good!!! But, disagreeing with the other reviews, I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the sound or look; it's the performance of the band itself that's off!!!
Bands, like everyone else, have good days and bad days and Zappa himself once commented that contracting to record and/or film was almost a curse because, inevitably, someone would be sick that night or just having a bad day. A perfect example of this is Led Zeppelin - as good as "Song Remains the Same" is, anyone who has seen the new DVD 2-disc box know that the band was absolutely ON FIRE that night in 1975 at Earl's Court. So much so that it clearly shows in the filmed performance.
This BOC DVD, on the other hand, is the complete opposite and the band clearly wasn't "on" that night. Too bad they didn't film one of the GA shows; the Atlanta show, even almost 30 years later, stands out in my mind as the best of the 5-6 times I saw them and the "Astronomy" on the CD (from Columbus remember, not Atlanta) is THE single best version of that song I have ever heard.
And, to those who are complaining about the lack of "Reaper" and "Godzilla"...I say SO WHAT, it's not like we don't have 5 thousand versions of those 2 songs already!! I think it's great just finally having video of one of my fave BOC songs - "The Golden Age of Leather"!!
Bottom line, If you are a B.O.C. fan and can't get your hands on a copy of "Black & Blue", don't let the bad reviews scare you out of spending a few $$, go ahead and get this. If you only like BOC in passing, then get their modern DVD release, "A Long Day's Night!!!" Modern film & recording, great setlist and Eric Bloom's voice is almost as powerful as it was 30 years ago!! It's just not the original line-up!!

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

I am very satisfied with this product and recommend it to anyone who likes instrumental and haunting melodies.
Holiday music with that extra magic - creepiness!.......2007-01-26
If you are in a holiday mood, but are heartily fed up with Irish (or even worse: Mariah Carey!) Christmas songs, then you might want to consider this album. It is not a soundeffect album, nor is it program music. A final touch is that it is not cheaply produced, as some more traditional holiday albums.
The music conveys a feeling of cold, dark, and immensly lonely winter. The Christmas is there, but there are undertows of older and more sinister rituals, and whispers call the more unwary listeners to join in...
This album could be a very good way to spice up the celebrations.
Another brilliant Nox Arcana CD!.......2007-01-03
Nox Arcana's versatility has made them a tough act to follow. Whether it be a musical journey into the foreboding land of vampires (Transylvania) or a sinister carnival with a bloody history (Carnival of Lost Souls) or any of their other forays into gothic imaginings, Nox Arcana has taken each concept and breathed impressive, symphonic life into it. Their CDs truly are mini symphonies, with astounding musicianship and intricate orchestrations.
In Winter's Knight, Nox Arcana presents a moody, elegant collection of holiday-themed songs that captures the more mystical, meditative side of Christmas. The CD's strong medieval/classical flavor is refreshing, particularly since most Christmas music nowadays seems dominated by more modern songs. Joseph Vargo and William Piotrowski offer great new arrangements of classic pieces like "Veni, Veni, Emmanuel" as well as many of their own moving compositions, such as the memorably haunting "Crystal Forest" and the chilling piano-dominated "Evening Star." Guest vocalist Michelle Belanger also contributes a lovely interpretation of the holiday standard "Past Time With Good Company" and Jeff Endemann's vocal work on "Coventry Carol" is likewise a highlight.
While most Christmas music is, unfortunately, either infantile and annoying or overdone, Winter's Knight provides a refreshing change of piece full of musical elegance and mystical beauty.
Music to be enchanted by.......2006-12-25
As mesmerizing as falling snow, this poetic and magickal soundscape creates a wonderland of lavish treats befitting the Holiday Season. Haunting and sophisticated, there's a certain luster to these songs that reflects the gothically romantic luxury only Nox Arcana can deliver. The addition of neo-bard, Jeff Endemann's spellbinding voice on "Coventry Carol" delivers an extra gift of warmth for those chilly Yuletide evenings. The original score by Vargo and Piotrowski interspersed with classic carols and a booklet of eye-candy artwork by Joseph Vargo makes this a perfect fit for any Holiday Collection, so fill your wassail cup, pull up some moonlight and breathe in the wonder of Winter Knights.
Very Good, Different.......2006-11-04
The idea behind this CD and the music itself are a breath of fresh air in the stagnant holiday music scene. Dark and evocative, it pushes aside the sugarplums and saccharine we're all used to. However, the production leaves quite a bit to be desired. It's all done with computers - the choral parts are lacking in fullness, I can't always tell what the stringed "instruments" are supposed to be, and rather than cadences that would give finality to the piece, the tracks often come to a sudden stop. 3 1/2 stars.
