What does a wildly successful purveyor of `80s big hair power ballads do in an ensuing decade dominated by fervent shoe-gazing and other attendant alt.cliches? If you're Jon Bon Jovi, you scale back your band's ambitions, retool yourself as surprisingly accomplished indie film and TV actor, and (mostly) wait for the pop music tides to turn in your favor again. But JBJ and guitarist/collaborator Richie Sambora didn't let their band's lukewarm `90s fortunes dampen their knack for hook-savvy songcraft, as this muscular anthem-fest argues at virtually every turn. BJ's songs here may be as infectious as ever, yet they're seldom mere confections, often infused with alternating doses of bracing cynicism (the title track's sarcastic riposte to the '04 election) and reflective, often bittersweet takes on histories both personal and otherwise. If it sometimes stoops to formula--the droning, metallic ethos of the obligatory big ballad "I Am" can't overcome some equally perfunctory lyrics-it's also an album with its share of warm surprises, be they unexpected nods to Dylan ("Last Man Standing," the acoustic idealism of "Bells of Freedom"), the hard-edged "I Want to Live" or a winning duet with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, "Who Says You Can't Go Home." Bon Jovi may deliver a sonically burnished triumph here by largely going back to the future--yet does it with one ear crucially cocked towards the anxious energy of the recent past. -- Jerry McCulley

Not bad but really not that good.......2007-07-31
Songs I like are Have a nice day, Bells of Freedom and Complicated. Beyond those three, however this CD really is not that good. There is a lot of pent up aggression with the words but the songs are more of some personal kind of vendetta BJ has against certain social and political issues than a collective set of songs created by a team of people. Sambora, well you just may as well have put him on a bus to go down to California and play for David Lee Roth, or anyone who appreciates his talents because the minimal jamming heard here is really a waste of his precious time. Different approach I can handle, but it could have been so much better.
BON JOVI'S NICE DAY IS GOOD ALL YEAR.......2007-07-30
Even with age you cn't beat Bon Jovi. This cd is well worth any price. Great selections!!!
A Masterpiece!!!!.......2007-06-22
Their best stuff ever!!!! Great sound, awesome lyrics! Welcome to Wherever You Are - their best written song ever. I Am, I Want to be Loved, Have a Nice Day, Story of My Life, Bells of Freedom are excellent too! Giddy up!
Have A Nice Day.......2007-06-21
"Now There's the Band - They really Play" Great album and Superb Concert. You guys ROCK!
Morph from Ork.......2007-06-17
Hints of a country band realized.....That said Bon Jovi brings you.....Lost Highway. There have always been overtures towards country music from JBJ from Wanted: Dead or Alive, to The Blaze of Glory soundtrack. You knew, however, that they would be followed up with a Bad Medicine or 99 In The Shade. It is becoming apparent, as they age, that they will rock less and croon more..... Sad but true. JBJ's Slippery When Wet voice abandoned him years ago. He's learned to pick his spots, like an aging fastball pitcher. But....he is from Jersey so...I like him....I'll just listen to SWW and NJ more! Keppin the Faith!

Strummmmm! That dramatic guitar chord that kicks of A Hard Day's Night (album, song, movie) still jumps right out at you, slaps you in the face, and jump-starts your heart. And you know what? Both the music and the film are still as crisp and lively as they were in 1964. Of course, only the first seven songs are actually in the movie (and they are the strongest of the bunch, from the rousing rock & roll of the title track and the hit single "Can't Buy Me Love," to the beautiful ballads "If I Fell" and "And I Love Her"). But nobody's going to complain about having songs like "I'll Cry Instead" and "Things We Said Today" in the second half of the record; they sure don't feel like leftovers. Yet another high-point for John, Paul, George, and Ringo--four fab fellows who hit the highest heights imaginable. --Jim Emerson

Love songs to touch any lovers........2007-07-18
This is one of The Beatles earlier albums. It is filled with quirky love songs. I love them all. I'm a sucker for love songs. Not one of their most experimental albums, but certainly good for what it is. The Beatles have never put out a bad album. BUY IT. LOVE IT.
A pop masterpiece.......2007-06-09
Though my favorite Beatle era has long been their middle period (RS through MMT), with their later period (1968 to the end) coming in second place, I've been getting reacquainted with this wonderful earlier album in a major way lately. Their early period might not be as polished, sophisticated, deep, or mature as their middle or later periods, but the songs on this album are all absolutely incredible. There's not a single filler song; all of them are loaded with energy, great hooks, wonderful instrumentation, and some suprisingly mature and introspective lyrics for being only their third album. The songs may all be about love, but each one is special and unique, dealing with different types and aspects of love. These aren't the typical simplistic love pop songs of 1964. It's also a landmark album in that it was their first to consist entirely of original material.
It's amazing to rediscover just how great the early Beatles were, how much kick their music had to it, making up with pure pop/rock energy what it lacked for in terms of maturity and sophistication. It's also probably true that this album is the most accurate picture of what Beatlemania was like, while the phenomenon was still new and exciting, before they had grown weary and cynical of touring and having to keep up a happy squeaky-clean public image. The guys singing these songs were still cute happy-go-lucky moptops. And though only the first 7 songs were included in the film, the other 6 are nothing to sneeze at. More bands should have such high-quality leftovers. (Although, surprisingly, this is one of the few albums where Ringo doesn't get any songs.)
The songs range from energetic pop, such as the opening title track (the opening chord still has an amazing effect so many decades later), "Can't Buy Me Love," and "Tell Me Why," to soft romantic ballads, such as "And I Love Her" (which contains some of Paul's finest lyrics, and I'm usually no longer a fan of the schmaltzy songs he often sang!) and "If I Fell" (which has some beautiful harmonising), to songs with a more complex (for a pop song) view on love and relationships, such as "You Can't Do That" (about a jealous and insecure lover) and "I'll Cry Instead" (an angry and depressed lover who got burned and wants revenge). The final track, "I'll Be Back," has also long been one of my favoritest Beatles' songs; it's so poignant and beautiful, the type of song that anyone who's had one's heart broken but still wants another chance to have a relationship with that person can relate to. And since John is my favorite Beatle, it certainly doesn't hurt my opinion of this album that he sings 9 of the 13 songs.
Overall, it's a great slice of pop paradise and Beatlemania, proving that there actually were some truly great albums made in 1964. This is far from the typical album of the era, with just a few great songs padded out by a bunch of filler. Every single track is a winner, with never a dull moment.
Must Have.......2007-05-24
This music is sweet -- no Beatles fan can neglect to add this to their collection. The music and the movie are a highlights from my childhood. Ahh, those were the days.
What else but Fab!.......2007-05-14
These tunes are so much fun! The songs that were part of the soundtrack instantly take you back to the scenes in the film. What else can you say about the Beatles? Every song is good to excellent and each song points in a different musical direction. No fillers or junk where chord selection is flipped upside down and a similar song churned out. Fab four fabulous as usual!
PURE BEATLES'SOUND!!!!!!!.......2007-05-05
This is the biggest example of the "beatlemania" fever; this album was so original (the only one album composed enterely of Lennon-McCartney songs) this was also their third album recorded and all the material are excellent and fresh, the fab four doing one of their best effords; very rock'n'roll songs like A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, I'M HAPPY JUST TO DANCE WITH YOU and TELL ME WHY, great acoustic ballads like AND I LOVE HER, IF I FELL and I'LL BE BACK, excellent pop songs like THINGS WE SAID TODAY and I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, including the country song I'LL CRY INSTEAD, and the greatest No. 1 hit song CAN'T BUY ME LOVE! this album is essential in every beatles and rock and roll collection!!

For its first new set of music since 2000's Warning, Green Day tears up the blueprint and comes up with something unexpected: a punk rock concept album built around elaborate melodies, odd tempo changes, and a collection of songs that freely reference classic rock warhorses like the Beatles and Pink Floyd. "She's a Rebel" and "St. Jimmy" might sound like vintage Green Day, but the rest of the disc finds the Northern California trio trying on a variety of different guises: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a cliché-strewn Foo Fighters-style power ballad; "Extraordinary Girl" floats on Indian strings; and the hushed "Wake Me Up When September Ends" wouldn't sound entirely out of place on a Jessica Simpson record. It doesn't always work. "Dearly Beloved" eerily resembles the Alarm's "68 Guns," while the title track eerily resembles something Green Day has already done far too many times. But, overall, American Idiot represents a promising step forward. --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
The first original album since 2000 from modern rock superheroes Green Day, American Idiot is one of the most anticipated and controversial albums of the year. Scathing yet self-effacing as it tells the tale of Green Dayâs Billie Joe Armstrong, American Idiot is the punk rock epic. "A bold, polished punk opera." (Entertainment Weekly) "They're the biggest, most successful, punk band the world has ever seen. What's more, Green Day's next album may well be their masterpiece." (Kerrang!)
Customer Reviews:
Too Political For Green Day's Taste.......2007-08-02
Ok I know 90 percent of Americans hate Bush with a passion, but to create a whole CD to emphasize that is rediculous.
I started to listen to Green Day a year before this album came out and I was impressed with what I heard.
I anticipated this new CD since Green Day had been in the shadows for so long and what came out of it disappointed me.
Their old music was dark and punk. This new stuff was too "pop" for their taste.
My Recommendation:
If you don't like political music, then pass up on this CD.
Enjoyable.......2007-08-02
Green Day were my favorite band as soon as I heard "When I Come Around" way back in the day. They're not quite my favorite anymore, but I still enjoy their music, including this album. After a great "mature" I guess you could say album in Warning, they changed direction yet again with this. I think Billie and Co just wanted to write a bunch of energetic anthems that would translate well to live shows, which is exactly what they did. Makes sense, since they're known for putting on good shows live.
But anyways, this CD has some great tracks on it. Punk-rock opera is what it has been dubbed, although many cringe at such a classification of such a popular band as Green Day. Honestly though, I think this is a good description of what the album is about. It's about cranking out power chords (the "punk" part) and being over-the-top and creating nine-minute storytelling songs about how much Billie Joe hates George Bush (the opera part). "Punk" itself seems to be a word that has multiple definitions. I (and many other) consider it any type of simple power chord oriented and typically fast paced rock. I'm just typing this as a disclaimer for those music purists that will e-mail bomb me for calling Green Day "punk" because they consider punk "a way of thinking". Thing is, the English language is ever-changing, and now this kind of music is what people are calling punk. Not that I agree with it, or care. This is a pretty good CD if you enjoy Green Day's previous records, although I prefer "Warning" and "Insomniac" to this.
Of course many have accused their expanding horizons as "SELLING OUT". Thing is they havn't changed their sound very much from when they started back in the late 80's, so I'm not quite sure how that works. If "Warning" and its relatively subpar sales is any indication, these guys just make the music they enjoy to play.
Also, those who criticize Green Day for not being very talented, that very well may be true. Billie Joe isn't a great guitar player at all. But good songs don't have to be technically hard to play. Look at the Beatles. Timeless, great music that anyone can play (note that I'm NOT saying Green Day on the same level as them in my opinion). Looking back at the two bands I was in myself, I wish we had kept the songs more simple. Simplicity is underrated in songwriting.
I've seen Green Day twice live, and they put on a great, fun, exciting show both times. Isn't that what it's all about? I'm happy for the three of them and their success and look forward to future recordings!
American Genius.......2007-07-08
There is a lot of excellent music here. "Holiday," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and of course the title track are destined to be Green Day classics. It is obvious these guys ave something to say, and this album spares no risks in delivering that message. It challenges us, as Americans, to look at ourselves and society. I love music like this. It has meaning. Green Day has reached their peak with this album. They will never sound this good again.
Fair.......2007-06-30
I'am Not Usually Not A Big Fan Of Green Day. Really I Pretty Much Hate All Of There Album's. But For Some Reason I Actually Like This Album Ok. I Don't Know It's Like It's A Step Of Good For Green Day. It's Actually The Only Green Day Album I Own. I Proabably Recomend This One, But It's The Only One I Would.
Who Cares what people say!!.......2007-06-29
I bought this album about 2 years ago when it came out. Being an old school Greenday fan some of this album was new to me,but is changing really a bad thing. Everyone says GreenDay sold out with this LP but does growing up musically really considered selling out. If that was true than great bands such as Pink Floyd would be considered sell outs. Being a true GreenDay fan I will say some of the songs on this album sort of have the album "Warning" sound to it. So if you like good concept music buy this album!!

As each new Enya release has washed over all who have ears to hear, as each heaven-touched work leaves admirers sitting speechless in slack-jawed wonder, questions eventually come to mind: Might her layered, choral-like approach gradually become predictable or stale? Will she ever exhaust her deep reservoir of soul-stirring ideas? Remarkably, A Day Without Rain, Enya's fourth release since her 1988 breakthrough, Watermark, establishes new artistic heights for the gifted Irish vocalist and keyboardist. The project, polished and refined over a five-year period in the company of longtime collaborators Nicky Ryan (producer) and Roma Ryan (lyricist), may qualify as her best yet--a radiant, beatific collection of works that command attention with their cathedral-like resonance as they soothe your spirit with some of Enya's loveliest, most graceful voicings ever. The disc's opening three tracks (including the spellbinding "Only Time") form a gorgeous trilogy that suggest Enya has deepened her focus on the nexus where sophisticated pop and regal mysticism, the twin rivers of her singular sound, form a seamless intersection. The disc's gentle timbre is disturbed only once, and in memorable fashion, with "Tempus Vernum," a marshalling of mythic sonic forces that brings to mind the theme from the De Beers diamond commercial, but with a Celtic/Goth edge. Additional highlights abound. The closing "Lazy Days" will leave your soul dancing in a shower of flower petals and sunshine. A wonderful recording. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
excellent.......2007-07-20
A Day Without Rain truly highlight's Enya's voice as an instrument. "Rain" delivers a focus on the sound of the music and not just on the lyrics.
Classic Enya, But So What?.......2007-06-24
Now don't get me wrong -- I am an Enya fan. And as such I was looking forward to the release of the CD.
I probably listen to it the least of any of her CD's that I own (for the record, I have "Shepherd Moons," "Watermark," "The Memory of Trees," "The Celts," "Paint the Sky with Stars," and "Amarantine").
Why? Because with each previous (and subsequent) Enya release, there has been something that goes beyond the ethereal tones that we expect from her. And I just don't hear it here.
I do have my favourites on the CD just like anyone else ("Flora's Secret" and "Lazy Days"), but I wouldn't say that they stand out in any significant way from tracks on other CD's. If you have to choose one disc among Enya's later works, pick up Amarantine first, then grab this one later if you want a complete tome.
my favorite Enya CD.......2007-02-11
love all the selections, some are upbeat & cheery others more melancholy.
Relax.......2007-01-17
I have had this cd for about 4 years and it still has the same effect......RELAXATION. It makes me feel very calm and centered.
I have 4 cd's from Enya and this one is the one I listen to because I love Only time, A day without rain. Those are my favorites!
If you are a fan of hers this one is a must!
A very special one........2007-01-09
This CD have a meaning to me, the song Only Time have a healing message for everyone. Is like having someone who is giving you an advice in trouble times. You have to get this CD!!!!!

History may prove Beyoncé's B'Day to be a rare double-whammy of an achievement. Not only is it destined to hold up as one of the thumpingest, most polished-sounding discs of 2006, it's also bound to loose a new phrase into the popular lexicon: a "freekum dress" (n.), as described on a same-named track halfway through this excellent CD, is a "right-fittin'" garment owned by every woman; "when they act wrong, that's when you put it on." Linguistic hijinks aside, here is Beyoncé as the public rarely sees her: fully liberated and artistically fearless. "Ring the Alarm," a big-banging, fire-alarm-clanging wake-up call to a cheating man, finds her seething; "Kitty Kat," a feline-like size-up of a stale relationship helped along by the still innovative Neptunes, shows her spurned; the womanly, fire-in-the-belly come-on "Suga Mama" gets her way, way worked up; and the crackling, vocally volcanic "Resentment" steeps her in Aretha-caliber soul. For all the disc's solo trailblazing, though, where it really soars is on one of two duets with Jay-Z: While "Up Grade U" chugs along entertainingly enough about the good life ("I'm talkin' spa bags and fly pads and rooms at the Bloomberg"), opener "Deja Vu" blasts out a bomp-bomp beat nobody with a head to nod could resist. Cake, candles, and Cristal or no, B'Days rarely get this good. --Tammy La Gorce

No matter how many re-releases an album has, if it isn't good it just isn't.......2007-08-01
What happened to Beyonce? Why did she want to change her style so much? Why did she totally sell out to pop industry? What happened to her fresh 'Crazy in love' sound?.
When I first listened to this album I was expecting two things: Hearing Beyonce's great voice with new and fresh beats, and listening to what Hip Hop and R&B power couple had to offer. With an industry full of fake hip hop MCs, and R&B opportunists I thought that the power couple could offer something fresh and Real!. But this wasn't. All the songs simply shout out loud: I am great! I am amazing! Love me! I can produce trashy songs and still be the queen of R&B!!!!.
Irreplaceable is the only good song in the album, she did a nice effort to get close to the Hispanic community by singing songs with two of the best top Latin artists, the colombian Shakira and the mexican Alejandro Fernandez. But still, this record isn't good.
I saw all the videos she released for this new album, and they weren't good... at all. They looked cheap and most of all with no imagination or creativity. It was as if one day the label decided it and just recorded in the same set with similar hair styles similar backgrounds and no plot at all.
Again Irreplaceable is the only good song in this record and the rest is the type of album you expect from any other trash one record hit wonder artist. Where did the real Beyonce go????
Zorro!.......2007-08-01
I bought this CD because it contained the lead song from my favorite Spanish soap opera: Zorro, "Amor Gitano". I also enjoy listening to the rest of the other songs. Beyonce is a great songstress. Good double CD!
Beyonce - B'Day Deluxe Edition & Video Anthology Album.......2007-07-05
I love Beyonce! And this new Deluxe Edition is HOT!! It features "Beautiful Liar" with Shakira. Also 2 new songs "Flaws and All," and "Still In Love (Kissing You)." The Video Anthology is great too! All Beyonce videos I love!
I especially like Flaws and All..........2007-07-03
I'm a fan of Beyonce and I liked the original version of this album from the moment I heard it. I could identify with alot of the songs and they are great to dance and work-out to. I watched the videography and decided that I would buy this cd with the added songs mainly because of the song Flaws and All. This songs speaks to me in a very personal and lovely way and that's why I love Beyonce..lol..So I gave it 5 stars, and stamp that it's a very good cd, but I'm a fan.

--Tammy La Gorce

good.......2007-07-17
i think beyonce did a pretty good job on this. she matured on this. it is funky and jazzy. and she looks so beautiful on the album pics; very Brigitte Bardot and Saint Tropez (always did thought she looked like a black Bardot). i like Get me bodied. it sounds a bit like soul in the '50's mixed with the music of today. it's nostalgic. she does sound angry on some songs though. my fave is Upgrade You. thats a great song! it's funky and catchy. although i don't know why Irreplaceable became such a big hit. i am annoyed of it! people have that as their cell phone ring everywhere i go!
I only liked 2 songs.......2007-07-13
Beyonce had two new radio hits with this cd "Deja Vu" and "Irraplaceable." Unfortunately those are the only good songs on the album. I was dissapointed with Beyonce and I'm gald I didn't buy this album. The rest are filler tracks and are not reccomended to anyone. I do like Beyonce but was dissapointed with this album. Sorry B but I give this a thumbs DOWN!
Outstanding, Beyonce has done it! .......2007-06-27
I love this entire CD. Every song is different from each other and the Cd keeps you moving. This is a must have to your collection. It's also great for a long car ride. If you have seen any of the videos that accompany these songs you could appreciate this Cd even more!
2-1/2 stars -- "B" is for "berserk".......2007-06-14
Beyoncé undoubtedly has unquestionable talent, and even though all of Destiny's Child's albums (and B's own Dangerously In Love) fell victim to mixed reviews, Beyoncé was still able to triumph, vocally and on the charts. Well, it's not the same story with her latest offering, B'day.
Actually, maybe the chart comparison isn't valid any more because ever since she released "Irreplaceable" and the Shakira duet "Beautiful Liar", sales soared to double platinum certification and now she's made videos for just about every song on here. But as everyone knows by now, this album was made in only a few weeks and contains very few songs, and the songs aren't very exciting. I mean, Beyoncé can still sing, but she doesn't have to SCREAM. As I said in my review title, she goes a little overboard, especially in the obligatory song-with-my-partner, "Déjà Vu". And "Ring the Alarm" has to be one of the most annoying songs I ever heard.
The rest of the songs aren't that great either. Jay-Z shows up again to kick a dry verse on an already trite "Upgrade U". "Green Light" and both versions of "Get Me Bodied" are club tracks that are so disposable that they could have been done by ANYone. And am I the only one that thinks "Freakum Dress" and "Kitty Kat" are stupid?
As everyone else said, the only real saving graces to this album are "Resentment", "Listen" (from Dreamgirls) and the aforementioned "Irreplaceable". The rest of the album should be left alone, and it's too bad because we all know that Beyoncé has much more talent than this. B'day will make you wish that nightfall will come soon.

Pretty Good.......2007-05-15
I have to say this is my first Beyonce CD. I knew a song or two, so I bought it. I found a few songs right away that I liked, and made it worth the price. After listening to is a few times more though, it really is a variety of sounds and I'm glad I made the purchase.

Okalahoma.......2007-07-17
Very good quality reproduction, and enjoyable to listen to the full length movie soundtrack again.
MacRae and Jones head a superb and O.K. adaptation.......2007-03-16
The film adaptation of Oklahoma heralded a technological breakthrough in widescreen cinema just as the original stage musical ushered in the integrated book musical. As such this film adaptation was treated as a special occasion, well-supervised by the creators themselves. The soundtrack, featured here, boasts sterling performances from MacRae and Jones making the most of their portrayals of Curly and Laurey, backed by a charismatic cast and superb orchestrations. And of course let's not forget the enveloping stereo sound that holds up well even today.
Despite being a Hollywood star, Gordon MacRae performs the part of Curly as if he was born to play it even on the stage. He shines vocally in his renditions of Oh, what a Beautiful Mornin' and Surrey with the Fringe on Top. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones as a fresh and pert Laurey, lending her beautiful voice to the part. Although we don't hear much of her on this soundtrack, her partnering MacRae in People Will Say We're in Love exudes a masterful chemistry, as if they were setting sparks off at each other in their rendition of the song. Gene Nelson makes a dashing Will Parker and is equally well-matched by Gloria Grahame as Ado Annie. Grahame renders I Cain't Say No splendidly and partners Nelson in All er Nothin'. The supporting cast is filled out by Charlotte Greenwood's suitably caustic Aunt Eller and Rod Steiger's Jud. It's a pity that the film cut the song Lonely Room, otherwise Steiger would have better demonstrated the dark hues of the character of Jud. Yet it all adds up to a wonderful renditionh of this classic musical, enough to elicit a spontaneous YEOW! during this year of the Oklahoma centenary.
This EMI-Angel reissue offers one the advantage of the dance music and the main titles. This means that the listener gets the Kansas City and Farmer and the Cowman dance sequences, as well as the extended Dream Ballet. The only downside is the extraneous sound effects lifted from a DVD copy of the movie. Yes I share many of your sentiments that these sound effects tend to grate, and long for Didier Deutsch to have used the original untainted studio vault versions. However, let's at least be thankful that the CD producers have offered us a more comprehensive version of the Oklahoma soundtrack that we could only have dreamt of in the past.
In short, this is a wonderful and valuable addition to the R&H discography, and is an equally celebrated rendition of the score like the original Broadway cast recording. Warmly recommended to those who seek even their first version of Oklahoma.

The Book of Genesis tells us that God created "the evening and the morning" on the third day. It's hard to say when is the best time to listen to this southern Christian rock act's rousing tunes, though morning is likely the best, as their anthemic alt-rock is filled with enough praise and worship to get even the most jaded listener through the day. In their 11-year recording history, the band has built up a loyal fanbase, won Dove and Grammy awards, and spent innumerable miles on the road. On Chronology, Vol. 1, Third Day looks back at the first half of their career with a dual CD/DVD disc with characteristic generosity. A handful of live and rare numbers round out new mixes of hits like "Forever" and "I've Always Loved You," while two of their most-loved early numbers, "My Hope Is You" and "Thief," have been entirely re-recorded. The DVD is the real meat here, with five early music videos, six live performances from the Dove shows, and excerpts from eight handheld videos made by fans, which all show how hard these guys can kick it. This is no paint-by-numbers best-of, but an awesome tribute that will satisfy devoted fans and the newly curious alike. --Mike McGonigal

Great...even if you already have everything else!.......2007-07-23
I have most of Third Day's other CDs and DVDs but I still bought this CD/DVD even though I already have most of the songs included here. I love the songs so much that the alternate arrangements or live versions give me a chance to appreciate the songs all over again.
I would say that THIS is the CD to introduce other folks to Third Day...but I could say that about all the other ones I've listened to since starting with "Come Together" a few years back.
They're also a fantastic band to see live if you get the chance!
Can't beat this if you're a 3rd Day fan or not one yet.......2007-07-18
I have all their old CDs so there was no epiphany for me on hearding this new collection, but it's a solid assortment of past hits that can't be faulted.
The video DVD alone is worth the purchase price for the 2-disk set. Seeing the band evolve from their jumpy-punk early videos to GMA spots then on to smooth recent stuff is priceless! Cry out to Jesus still makes me cry.
3 thumbs up!
Third Day At Their Best.......2007-07-12
To all Third Day fans, this CD is a must have. It is not just the original songs placed on one CD and re-released, but the guys have gone to the trouble of re-recording all the tracks on this CD. And it's an awesome result.
The DVD that comes with the CD is also good value. You get to see the guys in their element, just worshipping God with out any inhibitions.
If you love Third Day's music then you will not be disappointed with this venture. I highly recommend you buy this CD.
XLNT!.......2007-05-15
Let me start off by saying Third Day's Cronology volume 1 is a fantastic dc/dvd! You are definately getting you're money's worth! Not only are you getting an audio cd packed with hitsongs, rarities, and live performances, you're also gonna a dvd full of realy neat stuff! I'd like to tell you a little about the cd first. The audio portian of this package contains 18 tracks, most of whitch are not available elswhere. You get remixes of songs from the band's debut album simply entitled "Third Day" as well as a newly recorded verssion of"Thief" You get stuff from their 2nd 3rd, and 4th albums, as well as previously unreleased live performances of "Black Bird" and "Alien" There's also a newly recorded verssion of "My Hope is You" But wait there's more! You also get tracks from a rare 1999 ep. Still not convinced this a bargin? The dvd features early videos, live performances, and bootleg videos from the early 90s before Third Day was signed to a record deal. But I'm not quite finished yet! There's also audio commentary from the band durring the early videos and the bootlegs. So there you have it! everything that comes in this wonderful package. I think that Chronology vol 1 is an outstanding retrospective on Third Day's early, as well as an absolute bargin for the price even if you pay fullprice. Trust me you're getting your $'s worth. PS Be on the lookout for Chronology vol2 release date August 17th 2007 Thanks for reading my review. K C stewart
A MUST HAVE!!!.......2007-05-14
If you are a Third Day fan this cd/dvd combo is a MUST HAVE!!! It has some great history about the band and you can watch how they have all grown up together. God has tremendously blessed them, because they have all been faithful to Him. I have really enjoyed this collection.

There's an old quote of St. Theresa's that goes something like, "More tears are shed over answered prayers than those that remain unanswered." In other words, be careful what you wish for--you just might get it. Don McLean, like any other singer-songwriter, no doubt wanted a hit, or some degree of success. "American Pie" gave him that and more. McLean's ode to Buddy Holly began with a folky intro that sounded like a protest song. Almost nine minutes later the song finally ends. Sure the song's poetic, sure it's a touching tribute, and sure, it's undeniably a classic. But it also became the bane of McLean's existence for many years as it was the only one of his songs that people wanted to hear. American Pie the album sold well on the strength of the title track, and even propelled the comparatively weak "Vincent" into the Top 20. A fine release rooted in folk, American Pie is a classic, whether anyone actually pays attention to the other songs or not. The 2003 reissue includes two bonus tracks"Mother Nature" and "Aftermath." --Steve Gdula

Good buy!.......2007-07-21
If you like Don McLean at all you'll love this album. It's as simple as that.
A Masterpiece of Spirituality in Rhythm and Verse.......2007-05-24
Don McLean's great use of rhythm and verse make this album a true treasure.
His songs remain unforgettable. His style completely distinct and seperated from his contemporaries.
Lastly, the emotion, his own emotions are captured so precisely and sweetly poetic.
It would be a shame if today's youth were not exposed to this collection of his songs.
Bring back the memories.......2007-05-12
I still have the original LP!!! I love listening to McLean's on a clear sounding CD... What I like the most is that my teenager boys sing along to American Pie.
Great Classic Rock.......2007-05-07
I'm glad someone thought to release this album on cd since my turntable broke a long time ago!
One of the BEST OF THE BEST-LaLaLaLa LOVE IT!.......2007-03-29
This album is totally underrated and to some, forgotten. It is not only a classic for the gifted Don McLean; it is a heartfelt piece of poetry that you will listen to over and over again. I find some nuance, some depth of understanding and musical beauty each time I listen.
Songs like EMPTY CHAIRS, VINCENT, and even SISTER FATIMA are poetry set to music, and life experiences that most of us can identify with.
BRAVO, DON McLEAN - You still rock after more than 30 years!

Good Effort; Lots of Potential; Nalick shouldn't be afraid to move out of her Comfort Zone.......2007-07-06
For every Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez that has succeeded, there have been plenty of Debbie Gibsons and Tiffany's. In other words there have been many young female vocalists who have failed to sustain success after having a strong debut. We now are beginning to see that the Ashlee Simpsons and Avril Lavignes could also be falling into that category. So along comes Anna Nalick. Many have become familiar with her song "Breathe (2am)" that garnered considerable airplay and success. While that song didn't bowl me over, it was another song from her debut album "Wreck of the Day" that would catch my attention. A song simply titled "Satellite" began gaining sound clips on the "Satellite Sisters" syndicated radio show (for obvious reasons). I admit, I was surprised that "Satellite" was sung by the same artist that sung "Breathe (2am)". As a result, I would give "Wreck of the Day" a listen. My conclusions on this album are that Anna Nalick has all of the potential to go the route of a Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, or Jennifer Lopez - and become a real star. However whether she follows up on a strong sophomore effort is something still to be determined.
I think a lot of reasons why sophomore efforts by artists are not as successful is that many artists tend to go into a "comfort zone" and don't try to expand on the initial efforts that were done. With Nalick's debut, "Wreck of the Day", while we are given a strong dose of "coffee house acoustic/guitar" that is so prevalent in the music of the 2000s, we are also given string arrangements, cello, piano, and organ. Nalick actually shows her best stuff when the electric guitars are cranked up. On top of that, Nalick shows very the strong vocal range that has become a trademark of many of the successful "divas". Nalick, shows she isn't just eye candy and she is the author of the lyrics and music for all of these songs.
Here a quick review of the songs:
1-"Breathe (2am)": While not a bad song, it just didn't bowl me over - despite the string arrangements and cello along with Nalick's great vocals. The electric/acoustic guitar sound on this track is just all too common.
2."Citadel": Terrific song. The guitars are cranked up on this song. Nalick's vocals are even stronger than on the opening track - coming across three-dimensional and full of emotion.
3."Paper Bag": We're back to the coffee-shop electric/acoustic sound. This song has the cookie-cutter sound that so much of the music of the 2000s has. Still Nalick overcomes this mold with some terrific vocals.
4."Wreck of the Day": Nalick shows she can pull off the power ballad. The string arrangements and cello are the perfect complement to Nalick's vocals on this one.
5."Satellite": After listening to this song and "Citadel", I'm convinced that when the guitars are cranked up, Nalick can rise to the occasion. Once again, Nalick's vocals are three dimensional and full of emotion.
6."Forever Love (Digame)": This song has a near a cappella beginning. The piano and keyboards give this song a Tori Amos-like feel to it. Not a bad song, but still didn't me doing handstands like "Citadel" and "Satellite".
7."In the Rough": Another example of Nalick's strength where the electric is cranked on the guitars. We hear some tones of anger in Nalick's voice and she really is able to pull this sound off. Listen to how the string arrangements blend perfect here.
8."In My Head": A piano introduction will kick off this song. It doesn't matter what the instrumentation is in this song, because this song will be about Nalick's vocals - plain and simple. On the chorus, Nalick shows why she has all the potential in the world.
9.'Bleed": Nalick portrays an angry lover, but she isn't as angry as in "In the Rough". Some of the instrumentation was very good (I was amazed this sound was pulled off with no synthesizers), yet the instrumentation took on a very predictable form.
10."Catalyst": Here we are back to the acoustic coffee house sound. I say blah.... This song really didn't have me doing handstands. However the string arrangements and cello come in at the right time and help pick up what would have been a boring song.
11."Consider This": Nalick surprises us again - this time bringing in a bluesy sound. Nalick shows she doesn't need to be in the coffee house safety-zone and can really pull off the bluesy sound. I personally would have liked to hear more songs with Nalick doing a bluesy song.
12."Wreck of the Day '06": While I didn't consider the first version of "Wreck of the Day" the strongest track, it still was a good track. On this version, Nalick mixes things up again - this time going to a Country music style. After a few listens, this version really holds its own. The string arrangements are adapted perfectly for this Country music style. In fact the string arrangements show something innovative from a country music perspective.
There are three demo cuts included on this collection. "Drink", "Soldier", and "More Than Melody" are included as "bonus" material. These will give a good feel for Nalick's vocal potential, but keep in mind they are demos and not a polished product. They also feature yet more acoustic guitar - this time as the only instrument.
The liner notes include all of the lyrics, and musician credits, a bunch of "Thank Yous", and photos of Nalick herself. Overall, I think Nalick was at her best when she ventured out of the "comfort zone" of the "coffee house" music. While I do think Nalick should concentrate on her strengths, I certainly don't want to discourage her from "venturing out" in new directions. This is certainly not a bad effort and could definitely be something to build on for her sophomore effort. This is worth checking out.
