This compilation of selections from recordings made between 1975 and 1998, including one previously unreleased to create a framework, is a curious mix. All the pieces are slow, and this being the age of the soundbite, none is longer than five minutes except the Romance by Dvorák, who is also represented by two other popular pieces, specifically arranged to include a cello part for Yo-Yo Ma. Half the program consists of "themes" from movie soundtracks, and the comparison between them is interesting. John Williams, André Previn, and Max Steiner are film composers whose juicy melodies and swooping orchestrations are appropriate to the medium, while William Walton was a "serious" composer whose style retained its austerity in his film music. Two single slow movements, from Chausson's Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, and from Brahms's Third Violin Sonata, make one yearn for more. The latter is the only piece on the disc that can reasonably be called "classical;" as for the "rhapsodic" part of the title, it is certainly justified by the performances. Perlman plays everything, whether by Brahms or John Williams, with the same concentration, commitment, and emotional intensity. His expressiveness is always noble and so genuine that there is never a moment of sentimentality or condescension. The program gives him little chance to display his virtuosity, but shows off his glorious tone in all its variety, warmth, and radiance; the climaxes soar with rapturous ecstasy. The Greatest .......2007-06-11

Once in a very great while, God creates a musician who even He is in awe of. Itzhak Perlman is simply the greatest violinist who has ever lived. His Violin Concerto (Beethoven) is perhaps the greatest ever recorded, while here his violin expresses the joys and horrors of Cinema Paradiso and Shindler's List, themes not to be missed by anyone.

I played the violin growing up and could never imagine it could be played as
beautifully as Perlman can play it. He is unequalled as far as I'm concerned,
but anyone would enjoy this album as it has wonderfully memorable show
tunes like Cinema Paradiso and Schindler's List and the most beautiful
rendition ever of Michel Legrand's If It takes forever, I will wait for you
from UMBRELLAS of CHERBOURG.
It stays in my car CD player where I enjoy it over and over!

"Eternal" is my first Butterfly Messiah cd. I was given a copy as a gift recently. The moment I heard the crisp synthesized beats and the angelic vocals of Shannon on "For Today", I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Butterfly Messiah takes the best elements of synthpop and dance music, and combines them to create an intoxicating mix. I loved all of the songs on the entire cd. The lyrics are beautiful. They give hope and meaning. One of the most beautiful songs on the cd is "With Roses" which has Robert singing lead vocals/spoken word. The song is a gorgeous ballad. I just loved the combination of downtempo electronic beats with piano melodies. Ever since I received "Eternal" I have not been able to stop playing it. The cd is addicting to listen to.

WOW!.......2005-07-19

This is one of the most incredible EBM/Darkwave albums I have heard in my life. I recommend it to fans of both of the aforementioned musical genres, as well as ANY AND ALL Witches, Pagans and magickians. The album is profound, transcendental and most definitely dancable.

If I met Butterfly Messiah, I would give them kisses on the hand and speak words of adoration. This creation should NOT go unappreciated. Buy this album--it's one of the best investments you'll make ^_^

The jury's out on this one.......2004-05-28

Based on the rave reviews and sound clips from the band's website, I bought this CD and popped it in yesterday. My first impression was that the backbeat was more 80's revival than 21st century electronica which gives this avantgarde group a somewhat dated sound. The lead singer's voice is sweet but not as powerful like the leads in Evanescence and Lacuna Coil. Occasionally the music drowns out the singer entirely, though that might be a production flaw. Their music can't be put in one category and there's quite of experimentation going in the album to make listening an interesting experience. But after one sitting, I'm not sure whether I like the album or not. The lyrics are fab though and hopefully over time this group will win me over. This album is definitely for the open-minded. Ideally, I'd give it 3 1/2 stars for now but 4 is fair.

I love their first album "Priestess" and "Eternal" shows true evidence of growth... If you like the idea of synthpop electro with a touch of goth that encompasses beautiful vocals combined with deep lyrics - then you must pick up this cd... I'm already looking forward to their 3rd - and if they play NYC - I'm there - Savannah Skye...

Where to begin...this CD has so much to offer! Stunningly beautiful vocals, poetic, philosophical lyrics, and powerful, captivating musical arrangements...I could go on and on. This is a truly prodigious accomplishment!!!

Butterfly Messiah has managed to create a sound that is uniquely their own, while offering a collection of songs that is diverse, yet connected. Believe it or not, there aren't any trite lyrics here, nor are there any songs that sound the same. I'm absolutely amazed!

Boring, Repetetive, Made-for-TV Movie Theme Music.......2003-04-30

If it doesn't bother you to listen to the same maudlin, overly sentimental musical phrase over and over and over and over and over again, ad infinitem, by all means, purchase this album and enjoy. Be forwarned, *both* songs on this album contain the aforementioned same musical phrase. You may find yourself wondering if your CD player is just stuck.

The music is reminiscent of the soundtrack to a made-for-tv movie in which a young mother dies of cancer in the autumn, leaving behind her mourning husband and two small children - just WAY too sentimental, "sweeping" and "sweet" sounding to be taken seriously.

If you are looking for pleasant listening music and are into musical minimalism, try some Eno, Glass or Arvo Part. There are composers out there who are doing FAR more interesting things with the technique of repetition. Don't waste your money on Aeoliah.

I've heard many mediocre piano albums by various contemporary artists/composers. However, this album by Aeoliah, is truly an outstanding album. It evokes feelings of the neo-classic era and radiates musical images and the genius of such brilliant composers as Franz Lizst, Chopin, and Gabriel Faure. Angel's Touch flows with an elegant style and grace, with beautiful piano melodies woven in and out of finely orchestrated strings, angelic choirs,and harp arpegios, brining back the romance of the classic era but with a new, more contemporary twist. A very refined work that touches the heart deeply with its elegance, depth, and profound beauty.

Simply put: The greatest harp music ever recorded........2000-03-19

For those of you who enjoy classical music, or even those of you who think harps are only for angels, this CD is definatly one to hear. The CD starts on a happy note and takes it's listener into every emotion the harp can take you, which is nearly all of them at the same time. Yes, I admit it; this CD has brought me to tears with its Clair de Lune. I have also watched as it brought another to the same end during the Aria. I highly recommend it for anyone who wishes a touch of elegance in their home.

Easy listening elegance........2002-03-07

There would be a tendency, I suppose, to dismiss this album as forgettable elevator music. The music was copyrighted in the late '50s and early '60s, and, generally speaking, it's the same stuff that one hears on those "music of your life" radio stations. Much as Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle walked a fine line between "easy listening" and lite jazz. As the title suggests, this album stresses the more elegant sound. That means an emphasis on stringed instruments, but even Charlie Parker did some music with strings. True elegance is the theme music from an obscure Western movie of 1956 called "The Proud Ones." Riddle's orchestration nicely captures the image of a rider on the trail, whistling to keep the restless cattle quiet. In a brief 2 minutes and 45 seconds, the listener enjoys a smooth sound that sooths jangled nerves. The track is followed by the "Route 66" theme that evokes a '60s sports car eating up the highway miles. Moving on from movie and TV themes, there is "September in the Rain," as the leaves of brown come tumbling down. The lighthearted "Lisbon Antigua" and the others nicely round out the set of 16 tracks. This European import is a reissue of the original album. There are no liner notes, just a listing of the music and publication dates. This one will make the Hip-Hop generation gag. Those with an open mind can relax and enjoy the music. ;-)

Touch Somebody's Life, a CD of inspirational sacred songs, offers timeless and timely solace for these troubled days. The recording features 10 traditional spiritual and gospel standards. For more than seven decades, soprano Irene Day's voice has consoled the bereaved and lifted spirits over several generations.
