The 2007 entry in Armin Van Buuren's State of Trance series takes awhile to get going, but eventually kicks in with the blissful epics that have made him one of the world's most popular DJs. On mix records, Van Buuren usually expresses the two sides of his DJ personality via the two-disc format; disc one is filled with frothy vocal trance, the other is populated with more progressive material. SoT 2007 stays true to form. This time out though, there's an obvious disparity in quality between the two. Van Buuren goes downright cheesy for his lighter disc one (called "on the beach"), and with a few fleeting exceptions like Kalopsia's "The Blizzard," it's pretty forgettable. However, the second, more progressive disc ("in the club") improves noticeably as AVB leads off with two self-produced bombs "Miserere" and "Rush Hour." It still has a high cheese level to be sure, but its excesses are cut with relative dark matter like the lovely mashup in the middle of the disc, consisting primarily of Reh Mundi's "Perspective" and Ronski Speed's "The Space We Are." As with contemporaries like DJ Tiësto, Van Buuren seems to believe he needs to be all things to all people, but his more commercial instincts are too pronounced here, leaving his more devoted fan base with only half a mix to enjoy. --Matthew Cooke
Album Description
Van Buuren is one of the biggest names in dance music and the current #3 DJ in the world (as voted by a DJ Mag poll). He continually pushes the bar with fresh trance sounds. This is the next chapter in his annual mix album series; a two-disc continuous mix of this year's hottest trance tunes from a stellar lineup. Alongside Armin's superior mixing skills, "A State Of Trance" is an inspiring and uplifting aural experience.
Customer Reviews:
good stuff.......2007-08-04
pretty fantastic stuff, disc 1 is a little better than disc 2, but still great stuff.
Fantastic.......2007-07-25
I am somewhat newer to trance and am still getting accustomed to the lingo.
I read some of the other reviews before I listened to the album. I agree that disc one, "On the Beach", is much more of a mellow trance; and of course, the name of the disc implies this. Most of the tracks are excellent--I just have to be in a certain mood to enjoy this time of trance.
I absolutely loved the second disc, "In the Club". The tracks are out of this world! I was listening to it during my boring commute and was loving it. Track 12 flipped on, and all of a sudden, the whole album just seemed a hundred times better to me. Tracks 12 through 16 make up my personal favorite trance mix I've ever been exposed to out of all of my favorite DJ's--Tiesto, Buuren, PVD, and Micro. This made me feel 100% secure in giving the entire album five stars!
Not as good as the previous state's of trance.......2007-07-22
The '05 and '06's were much better than this record, which is pretty good, but not nearly as good as his previous work in this series.
Just buy it now!.......2007-07-20
I have been an ardent Armin fan for years. ASOT 2007....brilliant work. I saw Armin live a few weeks before I got this. The track "firefly" will always take me back to his performance. The crowd was chanting ARMIN ARMIN ARMIN as he had a huge beaming smile on his face. And I got his autograph. So I am in love with him for sure!
On a serious note, I have listened to this set a zillion times. You will want to also if you buy this. Love it.
Armin at his best!!.......2007-07-20
I feel compelled to add this paragraph to my original review, for we have a troll (who obviously hates Armin Van Buuren) going through these reviews and saying that they are not helpful. You will notice that 8 negative votes were given to many of the reviews. Do not for one minute pay any attention to those negative votes (I believe one person is casting these votes), for "A State of Trance 2007" is everything the positive reviewers are saying it is.
I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of my fellow-reviewers who stated that this is Armin's best release yet. "A State of Trance 2006" was also very good, but Armin outdid himself this time.
I won't repeat the comments of former reviews, but I would add that I was surprised that no one referred (when pointing out their favorite tracks) to the amazing club hit "I Am" by Markus Schulz vs. Chakaa. I found it to be absolutely phenomenal and IMHO that track, not "Evergreen," marks the transition between the first and second half of CD2.
There was one track on CD1 that I didn't care for ("Wouldn't Change a Thing"); the vocals just didn't appeal to me. And on CD2 I considered tracks 6 & 7 ("Perspective" & "The Space We Are") to be fillers. Am I complaining? Far from it, for the other 25 tracks were sweet to the ear and will bring any trance fan (especially those who love vocal, melodic, and high energy trance) to a state of audio nirvana.
I believe this is, by far, the best 2 CD set released this year. But I have ordered the much-anticipated "Nightmusic, Vol. 2" by Thrillseekers, and if that release equals or surpasses Nightmusic, Vol. 1, it will give Armin some tough competition.

Tiësto sticks to his guns on a new album of original compositions that follows 2004's Just Be. Elements of Life strikes a satisfying balance between inventive vocal tracks and signature trance stormers: "Ten Seconds Before Sunrise," "Driving to Heaven," and "Bright Morning Star" all glow with the Dutchman's epic sound, one that is simultaneously haunting and uplifting. On the vocal side, the soaring energy of "Break My Fall," which features BT on vocals, will not disappoint fans of the duo's prior work on "Just Be" and other collaborations. To be sure, there are a number of less convincing pieces as well: "Dance4Life" with Faithless's Maxi Jazz falls flat, and the lyrics of "Can You Feel Me" prove that the genre's reputation for banal wordsmithing is not entirely undeserved. For the most part, however, these weaker moments are outweighed by the stronger tracks. Principal among these is undoubtedly "Sweet Things"--in which Charlotte Martin's vocal high-wire act is complemented by some exceptional programming--a track that is sure to receive a great many spins by DJs around the globe and yet further proof that when it comes to bringing alive the female voice for the dancefloor, Tiësto remains without equal. All in all, it's a safe bet that many of Tiësto's Elements will be making their way into DJ crates and MP3 players alike. --Brent Kallmer
Album Description
Tiësto is undeniably one of the greatest DJ talents of this era. Internationally recognized as the world's premier DJ and producer, Tiësto continually takes electronic music to the next level - pushing boundaries with his addictive and creative trance creations. With his prior album releases enjoying outstanding success in the States, the time has come for his next installment: ELEMENTS OF LIFE. This record includes brilliant collaborations from the likes of BT, Maxi Jazz (Faithless) and other incredible female vocalists; a stunning collection of uplifting trance ensues. Supporting this release with performances at Coachella, WMC and an extensive national tour through Summer 07, Elements of Life will be THE electronic album of 2007.

Another Great Creation from Tiesto.......2007-08-03
I am Tiesto fan and dying to be able to see him live in concert. I own a lot of Tiesto music, ISOS series, Magik, Just Be, Parade of Athletes, and his DVDs. I was so happy when I saw Elements of life CD at the music store where I live..cos it is quite difficult to get Tiesto CDs where I live. I got most of my Tiesto's online or from friends who went to Europe.
What can I say about this CD...it grows on you. It's not like In Search of Sunrise PANAMA or Live in Amsterdam (which are still in my CD changer in my car for the last 3 years)
I like all the songs in the Album, but the one that stuck in my head is Break My Fall...have to fight the urge to dance whenever I listened to it. (since i listen to it everywhere, office, driving, ipod...) I really like the intro...kinda tease you to get to the song..then BT's voice came....sooooo nice.
I still love Tiesto..his music is Magic. I always happy when I listen to his music...drug free...nice eh??
Keep dancing everyone!!!
This is what I call Trance! .......2007-07-29
Dont listen to the bad reviews, theyre not right. Elements of Life is a wonderful record, full of energy, high beats, electro sounds and very beautiful vocals. The singles DANCE4LIFE, IN THE DARK & BREAK MY FALL are amazing. The remixes to those singles are incredible as well. the vocals on BREAK MY FALL are BTs, same guy who sang on LOVE COMES AGAIN. The vocal tracks SWEET THINGS & EVERYTHING are great tracks as well. TEN SECONDS BEFORE SUNRISE is a great starter to the the album and CARPE NOCTUM is TRAFFIC part 2. ELEMENTS OF LIFE is a great track to finish off the album as well. When I first downloaded this album I thought it wasnt as good as past Tiesto records but when I decided to give it a chance and actually started to listen to the whole album I loved it and ran to my local record store and bought it right away. Now its part of my work out, its always on my ipod and always in my car. Totally love it, go for it and enjoy! Cant wait to see Tiesto live with his Elements of Life tour!
Tiesto Gives us yet another reason to hate him!!.......2007-07-26
TIESTO, THE IDIOT, THE FOOL, THE ONE WHO POISONS THE NAME OF TRANCE. I FEEL SORRY FOR HIM FOR SUCKING SO MUCH. WHY CAN'T HE JUST DIE IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT OR GET CANCER- THAT WAY ATLEAST WE WOULD NOT HEAR FROM HIM AGAIN. HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR GIVING TRANCE AN UNDESERVED REPUTATION. if you want some fine music buy asot 2006, DEEP TRANCE by water music records or george acosta "lost world" their are many more but there are three good cd's right there.
old tiesto.......2007-07-18
I am kinda disappointed in this cd I like the old tiesto way better than this stuff. Hopefully his next cd rocks.
Tiësto is Tiësto.......2007-07-11
After Just Be, I didn't have too high expectations of this album, even though I did like Just Be. This album doesn't have slow tracks, the vocal performances are just great. All songs fit his style and a couple of them may remind you his first hits.

Album Description
2007 two CD follow up to the best-selling debut compilation from The Thrillseekers, who are renowned for their high-profile remixes, including reworks for Tiësto, Armin, Ferry Corsten and Chicane. Almost frighteningly upfront, Disc One has more than a splash of exclusives about it and includes the shiny new Thrillseekers single. 'Conversely', Disc Two shines the spotlight on the tracks that Steve Helstrip has hammered gig in, gig out, across the world, over the last 12 months. All in all, here at Team Thrillseekers, we are pretty confident that we've achieved, dare we say it, the near-impossible: an even better compilation than the first! 30 tracks including cuts from Marco V, Joop, Delerium, Supermodels From Paris, Above & Beyond, Lange, Simon Patterson and more.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome mix!.......2007-07-29
Having heard the the previous nightmusic vol. 1, I was pretty hyped for this mix. The Thrillseekers delivered once again. Both discs are great, although I prefer disc 1 more. Standout songs for me would be waiting here for you, angel falls, always a fool, late summer fields, angelicus, and many more. All mixed for your listening pleasure..
If you haven't listened to the first volume yet, try that first before this one. It's even better :D
Good Stuff!!.......2007-07-27
What a wonderful cd this is. Both disc 1 and disc 2 boast some great tracks. Disc 1 is brilliant and follows along the same lines as disc 2 of Anjunabeats Volume 5. It starts off with an absolute beauty of a track called "Waiting here for you", the vocals and melodic sound of the track is stunning. The rest of the tracks that follow are also brilliant, giving disc 1 a melodic-progressive feel to it. Really enjoyed disc 1.
The only thing that disappointed about the cd was the arrangement of the tracks on disc 2. It left me with that confused feeling but still very good with some of the tracks on disc 2 more than made up for this disappointment. The tracks I speak of are "headstrong - the truth", "delirium - angelicus", "filo & peri - ordinary moment" , and "mind one - hurt of intention".
Overall this is an excellent compilation from The Thrillseekers. Very good track selection and mixing. Definitely better than Night Music volume 1, so if you enjoyed that cd then you will simply love this one. This compilation is a must have for any trance lover.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent........2007-07-22
I love the CD, but the DVD comes only with the tour video, not the music video (it says it includes a video in the box).
Overall, a nice, smooth, energetic mix by my favorite DJ.
Blah.......2007-07-20
I was disappointed with this album. It is more techy and less melodic and trancey as Passport to the Netherlands and Right of Way. Plus I had already heard more interesting versions of the same tracks elsewhere before I got this. I have faith in Ferry and I think he'll surprise us with another great release in the future. Just not this release...
Ferry Corsten - Passport to the USA.......2007-06-28
Let me say that Ferry Corsten's newest release "Passport to the United States of America" is Good, but it just didn't really blow me away. I thought his Passport Netherlands was stronger.
Passport USA is solid but never really reaches epic trance status. It gets in the ballpark, but never really made me go "wow" for any extended period of time. Plus you're paying quite a bit of money for only one disc of music. I could do without the DVD if the album cost less.
There are TONS of other trance/ dance/ electronica discs out there. I would skip this and get Armin van Buuren's "A State of Trance 2007" instead.
One of Ferry's Best.......2007-06-25
Certainly a great mix. Although it's unfortunately only 1 disk, Ferry still delivers a well balanced collection of the recently popular electro-sounding progressive trance in addition to the high pumping synth lines that Corsten does best.

Amazingly Thrilling Rollercoaster Ride!.......2007-06-15
I expected there to be only a handful of songs that would sound great but it turns out that the entire CD is really just one crazy roller coaster of unique trancey sounds. This is the first CD I ever bought that I can listen to all the way through to the last track enjoying each track along the way, while not skipping past anything.
When I first bought this CD I thought I was making a mistake because I never heard of "The Thrillseekers", who apparently is one guy, not the assumed two-three DJ's. However, I should never judge trance by it's jewel case anymore. This CD amazed me and I'm starting to like the Nightmusic series better than In Search of Sunrise and A State of Trance. We'll see what happens in the second volume coming out this month.
A perfect trance collection..........2007-05-21
Wow! What a powerful trance collection... This collection, together with Armin's State of Trance 2006 and ATB's In the Mix 3, are the most perfect trance collections of the last 5 years (I would add Tiesto's In search of sunrise - Los Angeles, but it's not 100% trance, since it has some chill out tunes).
I'll be anxiously waiting for the next Thrillseeker's album!
Cool.......2007-05-15
Hey it turns out everyone who liked this was right .... I do too. Good solid trance to dance to.
MOODY.......2007-03-09
I love this cd its the best in the world and I cannot explain the intensity of the music better than that.
VOCALS.......2007-02-17
WHY IS IT THAT VOCALS ARE SHOWING UP MORE AND MORE IN TRANCE?
To me their distractions!
DJ's and Producers PLEASE LEAVE THE BUBBLEGUM POP VOCALS for the teeny-bopper radio!
This set lost the fifth star just because of Who's Knocking (Ferry Corsten Remix).
Take the songs with vocals in them out and you still have 22 good trance songs.

Not too bad.......2007-05-26
I generally disliked Frank's classical type music....too used to the Mothers of Invention. But, this effort sort of bridges the gap between the two. And, I admit, I'm growing more tolerant in my old age.
the best guitar CD I never listened in my life.......2007-03-30
Sometimes it's necessary to become in the past for knowing the real masters of music this is a great occasion to to it
Too Little Too Late.......2007-03-18
After years of listening to the two previous Zappa guitar cds, I was not very moved by this release. Frank is soloing over many of the same vamps and changes but his playing lacks the inventiveness of the earlier recordings. The segues and editing from track to track are not nearly as seamless as Frank was capable of. I suspect this was a result of a man exhausted from fighting a devastating illness. Chunga's Revenge being a favorite theme, it would have been nice to hear another version of this tune featuring Frank instead of Dweezil. Dweezil has alot of chops but he ain't sayin' nothin'. A bunch of empty notes. Listen to the original album for this track and Transylvania Boogie. Frank's guitar is testifying!
If you like Zappa's noodling - you'll love it. .......2007-03-09
it's Dweezle on the first and last track - and then Frank on the rest.
A powerful testament to his ability to keep it together and the dynamic fluidity of his musical mind on the fretboard.
There are few like him.
It's some of the best hammy riffing since Hot Rats.
Zapped.......2007-02-07
No Doubt that Frank was a huge influence on my life ( who could imagine? )from the earliest Mothers. But this must appeal to guitar players more than me; I can listen to Robert Fripp, John McClaughlin and Jeff Beck for hours but this seems repetitive and boring. Can I end this review with an Apostrophe?

Amazon.com's Best of 1999
Those who have followed Moby's career are familiar by now with his deep convictions and spiritual connection. On his 1999 release, Play, he celebrates his faith in a masterful, unobtrusive way, channeling gospel and other inspirational samples through beats so earthy they could grow grass on a cement dance floor. It's impossible to separate the joy of the message from the joy of the grooves. --Beth Massa
Amazon.com essential recording
The great iconoclast of techno returns with a smooth, sacred, and exhilarating record. Play's concoction of breakbeat rhythms, ambient mixology, and inspired blues and gospel samples cry out across musical genres and histories, imparting a time-tested wisdom to beat-driven ears. Moby's devout faith--in both God and his own musical whims--give this approach a sort of legitimacy that another, less sincere artist would never have. That sincerity reverberates through the beats and instrumental eclecticism like a pulse. The soulful refrains and proclamations in "Find My Baby" and "Natural Blues" somehow nestle between straight-up dance-floor rave-ups ("Bodyrock") and melt-in-your-mouth ambience ("Inside") with an effortless grace. Moby reaches across his turntables and finds something pure--almost organic. In fact, the album feels more natural than techno is ever supposed to feel, more spiritual than what DJs are supposed to be able to muster, and more alive than it has any right to be. --Matthew Cooke

Interesting diversity for just about any collection!.......2007-07-25
Adds interesting diversity to my very mainstream Rock collection. A curiosity item, I'm not familiar with the genre. What I can tell you is I really enjoyed it!
I applaud Moby for taking full advantage of his opportunity by generously including 18 tracks, because I don't know that most of us are up for more than one Moby album in our collections.
Very creative, though. I real keeper!

One of the Great Albums of the 90's.......2007-04-24
I was introduced to this album by my brother and was not sure if I would like it as I grew up in the seventies and was therefore somewhat out of touch with today's artists. But from the opening notes of HONEY, I was hooked. Moby put together a wonderful collection of songs for this album, most of which are instantly memorable, covering rock, pop, ambient music, gospel and ballads. Eighteen songs is a lot for one album and maybe four could have been left off: DOWN SLOW and 7 are very short, almost snippets. The spoken tracks: IF THINGS WERE PERFECT and THE SKY IS BROKEN are irritating and I tend to skip them. My other criticism is that the best tracks are contained in the first half of the album and it tends to run out of steam after RUN ON. So maybe a differnet playing order would have held my interest better. But that is only a minor complaint as there are so many wonderful tracks.
PORCELAIN may be overplayed as I see it listed on most chillout albums, including PURE MOODS 3 but there is no denying it is a great song.
SOUTHSIDE is the other big hit but it does not really need Gwen Stefani's guest vocal (although I do think she is a great artist).
Ater reading most of the other reviews, WHY DOES MY HEART FEEL SO BAD? seems to be the favourite song on the album and deservedly so. Very emotional vocal and a great gospel-style arrangement.
MACHETE and BODYROCK are the two most hard-edged songs on the album. BODYROCK has gotten a lot of airplay and is full of memorable hooks with its "Rock ya'll, no stop ya'll" lyric. MACHETE is a full-throttle, no holding back track. As far away from PORCELAIN as you could possibly get!!
RUN ON is another gospel style song that shows Moby's religious side; nicely understated with grerat backing vocal.
The third gospel type song is NATURAL BLUES. This has to be one of Moby's most confessional songs, questioning his faith and his "troubles with God". Along with WHY DOES MY HEART FEEL SO BAD, this has got to be the standout track on the album. His voice is full of naked, vulnerable anguish.
RUSHING is another favourite. It starts off as a lovely simple tune and then bursts out with gorgeous piano arpeggios that show Moby's talent as a gifted pianist. There is a magical moment all the other instrumentation suddenly stops and the piano is left "hanging".
EVERLOVING and GUITAR FLUTE & STRING are very effective mood pieces. Done in an acoustic arrangement, there is absolutetly no techno or studio wizardry involved. They are beautiful, raw and very soulful.
How can you not love HONEY! Very simple, almost ameteurish at the start but it is three and a half minutes of pure infectious pop.
Other tracks like MY WEAKNESS (interesting, but sort of ho-hum), FIND MY BABY (repetitive like HONEY and WHY DOES MY HERAT... but this track does need more variation) and INSIDE (too long and the album's longest track) are O.K. but nothing special.
By the way skip the liner notes. Moby pours forth about his beliefs on various topics and I for one don't really care. I am interested in some of the issues he talks about but it does come accross as a little bit preachy. Just create more great music. Below are track listing and times. Some have an A+ rating to show my favourites.

Killer.......2007-06-08
If you like anything resembling electronic music, you'll likely LOVE this! I have all his stuff...he's amazing, especially with a hi-fi system or earphones that really cover full frequency (flatly): 5-25K Hz.
Armin breaks loose in 2006.......2007-02-14
Armin van Buuren's style, from the countless mixes/broadcasts I have heard him put out, tends to waver with inconsistency. I think A State of Trance 2006 is where Armin finally hits his stride and is able to keep up with his own work.
Disc 1 (On The Beach) is a really great opening disc. Whether you find yourself rocking to and fro in a hammock or grooving enthusiastically in the sand & summer sun, this CD acts as a nice soundtrack. More atmospheric and spacey, Armin illustrates his grasp of the wheel when he proves himself able to incorporate some type of a pulse - sometimes surprisingly quick and hard - into this kind of "spaced" motif. In other words, On The Beach is not by any stretch of the imagination something ambient, and yet it is. The unobtrusive bpm simply propels the music, which takes the forefront, onward.
Disc 2 (At The Club) is where Armin has been known to shine; crazy, pulsating dance-floor-destroyer melodic trance comes pumping out of the speakers the minute the laser hits the disc. It doesn't become boring, and thankfully the vocals were really kept to a tolerable minimum in this mix. At The Club reminds me a lot of the frenetic, almost breakbeat melodic trance Armin dished out with his ASoT:2004, only this flows much better, linearly instead of jagged peaks and valleys. I loved ASoT:2004, but sometimes the lack of careful mixing or track placement makes it too hectic too enjoy - even on the dance floor, if you can believe that one.
I feel like Armin's been tinkering with stylistic techniques during the previous State of Trance mixes - 2004 & 2005. I loved both, but each went off in some undesirable direction at some point and never quite seemed able to return to base. Armin seems to have taken the warmer from 2004 and the cooler from 2005 and rightly combined them to produce 2006; highlighting his electronica capabilities with flying colors and putting forth a set in which BOTH discs are equally as desirable.
....No doubt this puts Armin back on the maps, even after releases like '76' temporarily took him off of my own. A great all-around CD to own, especially for Armin fans but also those of The Thrillseekers, Tiesto and Solarstone.

Excellent Trance Set !.......2007-02-08
The Trance style of music is something new to me.So,I took a chance on this CD set and I have to say it's exactly what I was looking for. Both CD's are EXCELLENT in my opinion.I liked it so well I bought AVB's CD set - 10 Years - which I also feel is an Excellent set.
Armin is simply the best.......2007-02-06
I won't go into a lot of detail here, but both of these disks are pretty amazing. The first one starts out somewhat slow, but then it builds into quite an energetic masterpiece. The second disk is pretty mind blowing throughout. I listened to the second disk first because the sub-title (In the club) drew my attention more. After listening to that disk about 25 times, I finally listened to the first disk, subtitled (At the beach) and to my surprise, after listening to it one or two times, I found myself liking it even more than the first. No way around it, if you like Trance, you have to buy this two disk set, it's as simple as that.
Good Service.......2007-01-24
Thanks, the response was prompt and adequate! appreciate the sincerity of the description.

Album Description
The much anticipated NEW ALBUM containing 26 unreleased, all original songs by one of the world's premier DJs - ATB!
On this, his seventh album, ATB has succeeded in combining two worlds, without intermingling them unnecessarily. Trilogy's first disc ("Dance") provides the electronic and melodious ATB sound blended with a unique rock and pop crossover flavour. The second disc ("Chill"), on the other hand, offers the listener 14 super smooth tracks.
"Every album should have its own soul and a golden thread leading through all the songs. However, you only really feel the soul if you listen to all the songs together. If you mix up the faster and slower songs, that isn't going to work," explains Andre.
Customer Reviews:
Are You Kidding??.......2007-07-16
I thought I could count on Andre for inspired and soaring synth riffs (i.e."In My Dreams", etc.) I feel completely ripped off by this album. He has always been my number one trance artist, but now I feel like this God is dead. ATB is now "A Total Bore". Save your money...this album sucks.
ATB's new sounds, and then some........2007-07-06
This is definitely a high-flyer for ATB. It reminds me very much of the Two Worlds album, with the first CD being mainly techno-y/pop songs and the second CD being a great ambient mix. I'm not much of a fan of Heather Nova, and there's something about the featured single, "Renegade" that doesn't sound right, but dedicated ATB fans will like the new sounds, especially if you can't find quite the same kind of ambient that only ATB has. I would say it's no Movin' Melodies, or Two Worlds for that matter, but it's definitely worth the money. I've loved and listened to ATB for 6 years and I'm impressed that he can come out with a refreshingly new two-disc set after being in the game this long.
Great album...but does not reach "No silence" yet..........2007-06-26
ATB is an excellent DJ. Although he's classified in the Trance category, a more appropriate definition of his style would be melodic trance, as pointed out by a reviewer here. If you look for DJ tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, PVD like trance, go elsewhere. This is more mellow, more subtle trance here. The first CD has great vocal trance tracks (Renegade with Heather Nova will probably be among the most popular), pretty energetics sometimes, but nothing like the heavy basses rhythms of the DJs I mentionned earlier. Very laid back and relaxing.
The second CD, is definitely leaning towards dream music. very relaxing, excellent chillout tracks, perfect for a lazzy afternoon, or a quiet drive from the club at 4am.
4 stars only? well, rating is different for everybody, but to me, ATB really stood out with his previous album "No silence" and tracks like Ectasy, Marrakech, and others. IMHO this album is not as innovative and sort of surf on the same wave but no higher.
dont get me wrong though, it's still great music. I guess I'm just not as nicely surprised as with the "No silence" album. if you liked it, buy this one with your eyes closed.
ATB - Trilogy.......2007-06-25
ATB's newest CD is confusingly called "Trilogy". It's confusing since it's only 2 Discs-long, when I thought it was going to be 3 Discs-long - given the "Trilogy" title.
On top of that, it's almost like buying 2 completely different, separate artists' albums. That said, both of Trilogy's discs are good at what they set out to do.
Disc 1 is your typical ATB album. It's upbeat; it's dance-able. It's catchy, but never cheesey. There are good beats throughout and points to ATB for producing/creating them himself. A lot of DJ's can just spin good records, but ATB can also make good records. I thought the vocals were good throughout. This album is great for clubbing, driving fast, partying, etc. If you are a fan of ATB's other stuff, Disc 1 should definitely appeal to you.
Disc 2 however, is about as opposite from Disc 1 as you can get. Disc 2 is super mellow, ambient music. It is background music at its finest. It's calming, and can actually be beautiful at times - again a testament to ATB's ability to produce/create/make music. This CD is perfect for staying calm in rush-hour traffic, reading a book, or trying to fall asleep to.
So both CDs are good, even if they're really not related. I'm not sure anyone would ever naturally want to listen to them back-to-back; they're just so different from one another. If you are strictly a fan of the trance/dance genre, Disc 1 is for you, and you may hate Disc 2. If you're open to a wider taste of music, you may like both discs.
nice!.......2007-06-20
