I bought my first copy on (gasp!)cassette. Now I
am finally replacing on CD... "You Kill Me" always
haunts me... great album to wear out!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent post "Comes Alive" effort.......2006-08-12

I originally bought this album in vinyl, sometime after its initial release. I think it's a great record -- Frampton had descended from his exalted position atop the rock kingdom after the enormously successful live album and a couple of disappointing subsequent studio efforts. This record is basic rock and roll, showcasing Frampton's skills as a guitarist. A lot of the songs sound like they are recorded "live" in the studio, which is Frampton's obvious strength.

4 out of 5 stars An Impressive CD.......2006-01-14

"Breaking All The Rules" is undoubtedly one of Peter Frampton's best albums. For one thing, the quality of the songs is generally high-in my opinion, the only weak track is "Friday On My Mind." In style, most of the songs are mainstream rock. In addition, the album includes one of Peter's finest reflective songs (the poignant and beautiful "Going To L.A.") and arguably his greatest heavy rock number, the title track, which ends the album magnificently.

Another strength of "Breaking All The Rules" is the fact that the musicianship from Peter and his band is first-rate. For instance, the late Jeff Porcaro (one of rock's finest drummers) makes a significant contribution to the rhthym section. There are also numerous solos-on the opening track Peter uses a guitar synth to good effect-but, unfortunately in my view, the guitar tone is generally thinner than on some of his other albums, such as "Premonition" and "When All The Pieces Fit."

Furthermore, Peter's singing surpasses much of his earlier studio material. Instead of sounding self-conscious and ill at ease, he delivers the songs with confidence and real conviction.

All in all, this is certainly an impressive album. I first heard it on vinyl in 1983 and have held it in high regard ever since. Hence I was delighted to learn that Lemon Recordings have brought it out on CD and promptly ordered a copy. It was also pleasing to discover that some care has gone into the album's presentation, for the CD notes contain three photographs that did not appear on the original cover, as well as a discography of Frampton's singles and albums-including his work with The Herd and Humble Pie-and notes outlining his career.

If you like well-crafted, accomplished rock, then you should enjoy "Breaking All The Rules." Certainly, the album has far more to offer rock fans than its immediate predecessors, "I'm In You" (a disappointment) and the partly jazz-influenced "Where I Should Be." As Lemon Recordings aptly comment: "Everything about this record underpins its place among the best studio albums Frampton has ever recorded."

5 out of 5 stars 100% worth it.......2005-12-06

As some of the reviewers, I also have this one on cassette, I bought it the year it was released, 1981. By that time I did not know who were Frampton's band memebers, due that time, in some cassettes you could not find the credits of the band members, now I know who were on guitar and drums, now I know why this one has such quality. Excellent!!!

I do not know why this one took so long to be released, as "Where I Should Be", another excellent album.

Now I will wait for "The Art Of Control" to be released, another one that I like a lot.

5 out of 5 stars My CD collection is now complete!.......2005-10-02

I have been waiting for this to be released on CD. I have ripped this LP to MP3 quite a few years ago, giving up any hope this would ever see the light of day on CD. This was the last title out of my thousands of LPs to make it to CD. As for the review? Personally I am so sick of Frampton Comes Alive. Yes, it WAS a great album back in 1976, however Peter's best works were the STUDIO albums! And this LP (now a CD) was one of his stronger releases. Yes, there is some filler on side 2 (er, Track 8), but overall this is one of Peter's better releases.

5 out of 5 stars This cd will always rock!.......2002-01-03

I really like this cd a lot! It has great pop songs like "Breaking All The Rules" "Wouldn't It Be Good", "You Make Me Believe In Magic" and "Every Time You Touch Me (I Get High). There are also two ballads, "Come Back To Me" and "It's Your Love". There are three songs that have weird rhythms like "Do You Know", "Perfect Sin", and "Homesick", but they are stil very cool. There are also three great eurodance tracks which are called "Just For Tonight", "Let's Keep It Going On", and a great Berman Brothers Dance Mix of "Breaking All The Rules". I wish these girls would still be around today and I have tried to locate information on them online, but I have found nothing...

5 out of 5 stars She Moves rules forever!.......2000-03-18

I really, really, REALLY love this album! She Moves are so great and if you want to party, start listening with Breaking All The Rules wich will make your heart pump with the rythm. You can listen Nik Kershaw's song Wouldn't It Be Good and continue with Just For Tonight with will make you dance sing along. Later you will listen It's Your Love wich is very, VERY sweet song, really romantic and at the end you will heard Breaking All The Rules mix wich is even better than the original one, I think. So what are you waiting for? Buy it! Also other She Moves song in their other version of Breaking All The Rules album [I got it, ha ha] it has Forever Young with is maybe their best song ever! So BUY IT!

She Moves has one of the best albums if you like dance music very much. "Breaking All the Rules" is arguably their best song and it starts out on this album great. Somehow they lack appeal and maybe they would be a little bit better if they added a spark to all the rest of their songs.

5 out of 5 stars A CD which will uplift you!.......1999-01-05

This CD is one of its kind because the combination of the vibrations it contains, together with the harmony of the sounds in it lifts the listener up and inspires him like he/she never had before!! You feel an energizing wave of current going through you and feeding you as you listen to it!! I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't have it yet!!

May she continue to do so for a long time! If you like rockin' blues guitar don't hesitate to buy this disc. I rarely get really hooked on a disc after just one play but this one grabbed me and hasn't let go yet. I work in a record store and play this in-store a LOT. Every customer who I've recommended it to has come back and thanked me for it later, so check this out!!

5 out of 5 stars " QUEEN OF THE BLUES GUITAR ".......2001-03-04

Kris Wiley is the most powerful blues guitar playing female of all time. The only thing I have ever heard that compares to her live in concert is Jimi Hendrix and Albert King's "Live Wire". The cd "Breaking The Rules" has great variety with outstanding vocals, guitar and solid backing musicians including horns. There isn't one lously track. The major record labels here in the states missed the boat on this one. I also like Davies, Raitt and Foley, but Kris is the "Queen of the Blues Guitar".

      3 out of 5 stars A LITTLE TO COUNTRY!.......2000-06-14

KRIS WILEY IS A FINE GUITARIST WITH CAPABILITIES THAT APPROACH, BUT DO NOT EQUAL, DEBBIE DAVIES, SUSAN TEDESCHI AND DEBRA COLEMAN. VOCALLY, WILEY MORE CLOSELY RESEMBLES A BONNIE RAITT OR JOANNA CONNER WITH THAT COUNTRY SOUND. AS IS TYPICAL WITH JSP RECORDINGS, WILEY IS JOINED BY SEVERAL SESSION MUSICIANS RATHER THAN HER OWN BAND. PRODUCER/WRITER JIMMIE MORELLO ASSEMBLES JSP REGULARS PAUL FASULO ON DRUMS, TOM MAHON ON PIANO, JONNY VIAN ON TENOR SAX, TROY JENNINGS ON BARITONE AND KIRK FLETCHER ON RHYTHM GUITAR. THESE MUSICIANS PROVIDE AN AIRTIGHT RHYTHM SECTION AND CAN BE FOUND ON MANY JSP RECORDINGS SUCH AS MORELLO'S "CAN'T BE DENIED" AND FLETCHER'S "I'M HERE AND I'M GONE". NINE OF THE TEN SONGS ON THIS DISC HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY WILEY AND ONE "TWO TIMIN MAN" BY MORELLO. THIS IS WILEY'S FIRST CD ON JSP AND HER SECOND CD OVERALL, THE FIRST BEING A SELF PRODUCED DISC THAT CAUGHT THE EAR OF MORELLO. IT'S A GOOD CD THAT WILL APPEAL TO COUNTRY AND COUNTRY/BLUES FANS MORE THAN FANS OF BLUES/ROCK OR STRAIGHT BLUES.

      5 out of 5 stars in a word -- WOW.......1999-08-26

Bought this cd on a whim -- had not been "wowed" by Susan Tedeschi -- but took a chance on this one -- boy was I surprised -- Kris is one 'wailin' guitar slinger -- what a great cd for drivin in the car -- not a bad cut on the cd -- am buying two so I can keep one in the car at all times -- she can play with the best of the modern electric bluesmen -- and surpass some of them. Highly Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Dianne Davidson: Songwriter Extraordinaire.......2007-02-11

In December 1991, I went to hear my favorite singer, Tracy Nelson, for the umpteenth time, on the occasion of her 47th birthday, performing at New York City's now-defunct night spot, Tramps. Midway through her first set, Tracy said, "This next song is by Dianne Davidson, who I think is one of the finest songwriters in Nashville today. It's called, `Tonight I'll Dream'". I am not the type to pay much attention to songwriters, but the name Dianne Davidson was vaguely familiar. About a month later the name suddenly clicked, and I confirmed what I almost remembered that night; Dianne Davidson had written Sounds of the City, a stunning song that Tracy had recorded on my favorite album of hers, Homemade Songs. Sounds of the City is about the loneliness and uncertainty of a musician's life on the road. The lyrics to that song had haunted me the first time I'd heard it, and they still do.

Anyway, Tracy Nelson is a powerhouse of a singer, and even though by 1991 I had almost gotten used to being blown away by her performance, tonight was different. The song that Tracy had introduced so simply, Tonight I'll Dream, was a revelation. Although I have had a lifelong habit of memorizing lyrics to songs I truly love (I have literally hundreds of complete song lyrics in my head) I had never experienced a song before that was so powerful that I kept hearing the complete chorus in my mind over and over, the very first time I heard it. For the next 48 hours, I could not get the catchphrase of Tonight I'll Dream out of my head, so simple, and yet, so profoundly beautiful. "Yes, I've always been a dreamer", I kept hearing, "and tonight I'll dream that you care".

Three days later, when I could take it no longer, I went up to a mega record store, where I remembered I could plug a song title into a computer, and perhaps find what I was seeking (this was just a little before most people, including me, had unlimited access to the instant information available on the Internet). I hadn't really caught the name Dianne Davidson when Tracy had announced it, so I went to the store's computer, and just punched in the words, "Tonight I'll Dream That You Care", and held my breath. Instantly, a photo of a woman in a plaid shirt came up. The album title was Breaking All the Rules, and the singer was Dianne Davidson. YES! Now I was sure, Tracy had recorded a song of hers before. The computer said the album was in stock, (in the folk department, of all places) and there was one copy available.

I ran upstairs to the folk department, rummaged through the "D's" for just a few moments, and was elated when I found what I was looking for. I didn't even wait to get back to my apartment in Queens. I called my best friend, who lives downtown, "I found it!" I screamed excitedly, "Can I come right over?" He wasn't sure what I was talking about, but come on down, he said. I was vaguely aware that I was acting like a lunatic, despite the fact that, at that time, I already owned about 1,200 CD's of many different genres and artists, and rarely got this excited over a single song.

When I arrived, I told him, "You know I went to see Tracy Saturday, right?" (Like that wasn't all I had been talking about all weekend). "Don't tell me" he said, "you found that song you've been raving about".

"Just put it on - track eight, `Tonight I'll Dream That You Care'". He must have thought I was crazy, but he followed my instructions. When the song was finished, he silently got up, and played the track again, and I realized that we both had damp cheeks. I felt slightly embarrassed, not that I was tearing up in front of my best friend of thirty years, but that I was intruding on such a somber moment, even though I had initiated it. When the song finished a second time, he stopped the CD and played it again, and then again, and again. The only words he spoke, in between hearing it, I think for the third or fourth time were, "Gorgeous. Just gorgeous". That evening, we heard the song, "Tonight I'll Dream That You Care" at least 10 times in a row. I visited a few more record stores the next day, until I found another copy, and bought it for my friend. When I gave it to him he smiled, for he had already found one for himself.

I realized a little later that Tracy Nelson sang backup on Dianne's version of this song, on this very album. And Tracy recorded the song herself, five years later, on her 19th album, Move On. But even though Tracy is my favorite singer, and has been for almost 30 years, when people ask me today, what is my favorite love song of all time, I always answer without hesitation, "Tonight I'll Dream That You Care", by Dianne Davidson.

For many people, finding one brilliant song by a new artist would be enough, but the rest of the album is impressive as well. Besides Tonight I'll Dream, Dianne's songwriting abilities are ably demonstrated on a heartbreaker called, My Father, which also brings tears to my eyes. It's about losing your father in your teens. I guess Dianne and I have that in common, among some other things, and it is from the lyrics to this highly personal, poetic song that the album takes its name ("Times were angry, we were so cruel, but I was a rebel, had to break all the rules..."). There are also a number of other gorgeous Dianne Davidson compositions; another standout is titled, Everything To Me.

Although she wrote or co-wrote more than half the songs on this wonderfully unique album, Ms. Davidson does not shirk from recognizing the works of other great songwriters. Her cover of Blues giant Willie Dixon's Built For Speed is a highlight and, after Tonight I'll Dream, my favorite track is a song that Jennifer Warnes co-wrote with Leonard Cohen for her own tribute album to Mr. Cohen, Famous Blue Raincoat. The song is called, Song of Bernadette, and I like Dianne's heartfelt rendition every bit as much as Jennifer's.

Dianne Davidson wraps up this highly satisfactory lineup with another of her own compositions, the bouncy rock-gospel effort, Heaven Bound.

Like so many great talents I truly admire, Dianne Davidson has not received anywhere near the level of recognition that she deserves. I am not bothered by this; as I've stated before in many prior reviews, considering the astonishing number of marginal talents who have found superstardom, while others with seemingly super-human talent languish in relative obscurity, Dianne Davidson is in good company.

Since acquiring Breaking All the Rules, I've leaned that Dianne had recorded several albums in the early 1970's (Baby, Mountain Mama and Backwoods Woman are the titles of her three rare vinyl albums, all recorded on the Janus Label; Tracy Nelson sings backup on several songs on the latter two). With a bit of perseverance and a lot of luck, I have managed to track them down, and now own them all. But this, her finest effort, is still available; don't be a fool; get it while you can. True genius is too frequently neglected into obscurity, and found by only the lucky few. "Tonight I'll Dream That You Care" may not wind up as your candidate for the most gorgeous love song ever written, as it is mine, but I can almost guarantee it will make your top ten.

      4 out of 5 stars She's come a long way.......2000-04-05

The first time I heard Dianne Davidson, I went right out and bought her albums. This was in the 70's, she hasn't lost a bit in her voice. It's big, booming and clear sound reminds you of Tracy Nelson, who incidentaly sings background on one track.I enjoyed Breaking All The Rules, though her style has changed. Where she once was more folk and a bit country, she now has added a bit of pop and blues. My favorite track is Tonight I'll Dream, wonderful words and vocal. My new theme song has been chosen from this CD, Built For Comfort, all you large girls check it out. All in all I would recommend this CD and also her previous work, Backwoods Woman and Mountain Mama, I'm hoping they will be released on CDs.

5 out of 5 stars An astonishing voice. Raw power-- unexploded energy!.......1999-01-06

I first saw Dianne Davidson at a "Festival of Women's Music" in Boston that was hosted by Olivia Records. On the bill was Chris Williamson, Theresa Trull, and a half-dozen other incredible performers. Dianne blew the entire house away with a five-octave voice powered by a Mack truck! It's our loss that "Breaking All the Rules" was her first(and only)recording. How about an encore Olivia?

      5 out of 5 stars soul/rock.......1998-10-27

I have always loved this CD, From "Built for Comfort" which has terrific rock quality, excellent guitar licks and steady got-to-move-your-body rhythm, all the way through to "Homeward Bound" with its soulful gospel-trained style. Dianne's voice is solid and soul-filled. Check her out!

4 out of 5 stars She Moves, "Breaking All The Rules [Maxi-Single]".......2005-01-23

She Moves was a 3-lady dance/pop trio that only released one album; "Breaking All The Rules" was the lead single off the album. This song is a cute, upbeat dance/pop tune about love. It's fun. The Radio Mix is very similar to the LP Version, but has somewhat of it's own identity; the Bass Rules mix is an R'n'B/Funk, Groove, version; the Berman Brothers (Amber, "One More Night"; React, "Let's Go All The Way") Dance Mix is an uptempo dance remix of radio length. The last three tracks were remixed by Soul Solution (Bobby Guy & Ernie Lake) (Shania Twain, "You're Still The One"; Anastacia, "I'm Outta Love"). The Soul Solution Radio Mix isn't overly impressive, I must admit (they could of done better). I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. There are some good parts to it, but I felt they could of done a better job with it. The Soul Solution Club Mix is good though, as is the Dub Mix. The Dub Mix is just a remix of the Club Mix with chopped vocals. The track listing is:

      01. Breaking All The Rules [LP Version] 3:29
      02. Breaking All The Rules [Radio Mix] 3:42
      03. Breaking All The Rules [Bass Rules Mix] 3:31
      04. Breaking All The Rules [Berman Brothers Dance Mix] 3:39
      05. Breaking All The Rules [Soul Solution Radio Mix] 3:21
      06. Breaking All The Rules [Soul Solution Club Mix] 7:19
      07. Breaking All The Rules [Soul Solution Dub Mix] 5:48

5 out of 5 stars Great pianist! Very upbeat...wonderful listening!.......1998-11-29

Eight original compositions by Dawson, a new artist, at least to me. (Also two other arrangements by two other artists.) I first heard him sometime this spring/summer on our local community radio station, KZUM, on a live interview, and he was a delight to listen to, both just talking and his playing. I like classical and bluegrass, but he also has some pop and new age songs. He says he enjoys playing a variety of styles. His style is hard to describe, other than I think just great! It often also sounds like more than a piano or more than one piano. My 77 year old Dad listened to it here at Thanksgiving and thoroughly enjoyed it (he is more a classical listener), and couldn't believe the only instrument was a piano. Being a "bluegrass nut," my three favorites (and toe tapping/swinging/swaying to the music) are: Billy Bob, Sassy Fingers, and Walkin' in Tall Cotton. I can't WAIT until his next cd.
