4 out of 5 stars Holds Up Over Time.......2007-07-18

I saw "Desperado" in the theaters when it came out, and I loved the movie itself, but also, I was blown away by the soundtrack. I went right out and purchased it, and it's been a regular in my CD player ever since, for 11 plus years. Every single one of the songs holds its own away from the movie, and the other songs. "Strange Face of Love" is one of my all time favorite songs. Plus, I like the bits of dialog. The only reason I didn't give this CD 5 stars was because I'm incredibly stingy with them!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2007-05-27

I have searched everywhere for this soundtrack in NZ and finally found it on Amazon... and it was so worth the search and wait. Link Wray, Santana, Los Lobos and Dire Straits ... great compilation thats Mexican enough for summer BBQs!

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Album.......2007-04-10

I'm a big fan of Los Lobos, and even though there isn't enough of them playing on this sound track, they did write the music, so I really enjoyed it. If you enjoy the El Mariachi movie trilogy, you'll enjoy this soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars Get This Soundtrack.......2007-01-21

Robert Rodriguez puts together a killer soundtrack that is in the vein of Dusk Unitl Dawn or Kill Bill. Great music that flows wonderfully. This CD has sat in the car CD changer for a month now and I still like it everytime.

Lots of Los Lobos. A great song by Santana called Bella that is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever done by Carlos. The Dire Straights and Latin Playboys songs are also excellent. A great mix of music that blends styles and groups and keeps the whole CD interesting.

If you like the Dusk Until Dawn soundtrack get this one - if you like this one, likewise, get Dusk Till Dawn.

Rodriguez and Tarrintino rule!

If ever a group of musicians had a clear vision of where they wanted to go and how to get there, it was these southern California boys who built a steady rolling FM hit factory on basic tenets of Gram Parsons's invention of country-rock. For their second album, the group decided concept was most important and set out to portray themselves as keepers of the old West--their outlaw image a natural for those born unto rock and roll soil. The hits are lazy, decadent, and unrepentant; "Tequila Sunrise" and the title track, feature the flawless harmonies and strong vocals of Glenn Frey and Don Henley. --Rob O'Connor

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars whatever happened to Saturday night?.......2007-04-01

This is one of the Eagles best albums. All the songs are strong and for me, the problem with some of the Eagles songs is that they sound too much like all the other soft rock songs of the 70's(check out some of the songs on their first and The Long Run). This album though dosesn't have that problem with every tune being a classic. This is one of those albums that you put in and before you know it, it's over. the version I would recommend is the version in the box set where all of their albums are made to look like the original lps from when I first owned them.

4 out of 5 stars One of the seventies' landmark albums............2007-03-27

"Desperado" was one of the most important albums of the seventies in that it firmly established the Eagles as something more than Linda Rondstadt's backup band. From the title track to "Saturday Night" (a live version of which is done very well on 1980's "Eagles Live"....) there isn't a stinker amongst the mix. In fact, one of my favorite lines from the album is from "Certain Kind of Fool: "....and it's a certain kind of fool that likes to hear the sound of his own name....." (How many politicians and celebrities can we apply THAT to...)

All in all, it's a very enjoyable album in the Poco/Pure Prarie League vein.....

5 out of 5 stars The Eagles' best.......2007-03-25

This has been my all-time favorite album since it was released. There are other Eagles songs that are at the highest level (well, excluding chants by spiritual masters), but this is unique in having the entire album revolve around one theme. I can do without the cacophonous (sp?) ending of "Out of Control", but overall the album is unsurpassed.

5 out of 5 stars Way better than Hotel California!.......2007-01-17

I'm not really a fan of this kind of music, you know country pop. The only country music I listen to is bluegrass. Anyway, the lyrics are really cheezey but I don't care. Great playing, great melodies, and great singing. Do not buy Hotel California! This is so much better! Hotel California is quite possibly one of the most overated albums ever!

5 out of 5 stars The Eagles' sophomore set.......2006-12-18

Here on the Eagles' sophomore set, released in 1973 are three Top 20 hits, the title track(later covered by Kenny Rogers and Linda Ronstadt, separately),DOOLIN 'DALTON and TEQUILA SUNRISE. Those songs were recycled for the 2003 double-CD compilation VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES. The four members from left to right in the cover photo: Don Henley,Joe Walsh,Glenn Frey and Bernie Leadon sure look tough in the photo! The other songs are good.

Album Description

In the midst of the polished sounds of the progressive country music era of the 1970's, Johnny Rodriguez emerged with a distinctive brand of traditional country reflective of his Tex-Mex roots, scoring a remarkable six number one and twenty top-ten hits during the 1970's and early 1980's. Desperado: A Decade Of Hits contains 12 of Johnny Rodriguez's greatest hits, from his top-ten debut single "Pass Me By (If You're Only Passing Through)" to chart-topping country music standards such as "That's The Way Love Goes" and "Just Get Up And Close The Door", and a bonus DVD with the music video for "Run For The Border".

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars A Decade Of Hits? Ah...not quite.......2007-05-16

Nothing fries me more than buying what you think is a hits compilation, only to discover when you've torn the packaging off and put it in your CD player that what it REALLY is is a re-recording of a person's major hits done 20 years after the original recordings, when a voice is completely different. Sure, Johnny covers a lot of his own songs here, but his range is gone, and in some places, it barely sounds like the Rodriguez we've come to know and love. I loathe people that have to resort to this kind of trickery to dupe the music-buying public into thinking they're getting the original, genuine article.

5 out of 5 stars JOHNNY RODRIQUES AS I REMEMBER .......2007-01-10

C D WAS AS I EXPECTED. REPRODUCTION OF RODRIQUE'S BEST. THE DVD INCLUDED WAS EXCELLENT.

5 out of 5 stars Johnny Rodriguez.......2006-11-04

I was well pleased with the CD reviewing some old favorites of Johnny's as I haven't heard any of his accomplishments for some time. Good CD, fair price and good memories.

2 out of 5 stars Good music, but wait a second.......2005-08-31

What we have here is a slick repackaging for Johnny Rodriguez's release from the early 1990's titled "Run for the Boarder." None of the songs here are the orginal hit recordings. While some of the songs have never been recorded before, the big named songs here are totally remakes.

Now they are excellent remakes, and the new songs are excellent. But it gets a low rating simply because it is a cheap lie. Tryin to steal the money of country fans who aren't properly educated in the art of picking out good collections.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Que Viva Zarzuela!!.......2006-11-10

Zarzuela is Spanish operetta. This is a fine collection of choruses and preludes from various famous Zarzuelas, particularly for a beginner in the genre. If however you have been "enrollado" in Zarzuela for a while it's a lot like popular classics or "Opera Goes to the Movies" It'll be stuff you've heard before. Maestro Roa knows how to conduct with finess and fire, whichever is required and the performances are easy to appreciate and very easy to understand the lyrics if you speak Spanish. I highly reccommend this disc to anyone who wants to take away the veil of mystery surrounding Zarzuela and start exploring on your own. This disc is an excellent place to begin!

4 out of 5 stars Preludes & Choruses From Zarzuelas.......2006-07-17

Preludes & Choruses From Zarzuelas~ Miguel Roa was something quite new to me. Having mostly listened to classical from France, Germany, Austria, Russia and Italy I had not listened much to Spanish composers. The end result is that the music is very easy to listen to but feels light and I feel that it sounds a bit to much like movie soundtrack music. The book-let is quite well done and the painting on the front is splendid. The liner notes and the essay inside are well done and it is not overlong or too verbose. I must say that I had never ever heard of any of these composers before and it was a with an adventurous spirit that I started listening to this recording and to my pleasant surprise it was quite good and I therefore give it 4 out 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars overall.......2006-03-16

Great selections
Great orchestration
Every thing I was expecting
Wish you had this or any other like it in DVD
thank you

5 out of 5 stars The Dance of the Lovers is Here!.......2003-09-07

For many years an ancient 78 of one of the items found on this welcome CD was the most requested item for playing on the national radio broadcaster in Australia. Requests for full details of the item always yielded an announcement that everything on the record label was printed in Spanish, that there was not much of it, and all that could be deciphered and translated approximated to "The Dance of the Lovers".

Well, the same item features on Track 13 of this CD in a digitally recorded 1999 Madrid recording, and full information is provided about it and the other zarzuela excerpts in notes by Manuel Garcia Franco. This once popular item on Australian airwaves is a simple verse and chorus, the first in the minor and the second in the major mode. Framed in a short introduction and coda, it is sung twice, and what the female chorus members sing the first time is sung by the male chorus members the second time, and vice versa.

Although the Spanish composers of the zarzuela excerpts included here are represented in my collections by solo items from singers such as Supervia and de los Angeles, the choruses and orchestral excerpts found on this CD are all new to my ears. I have never seen a zarzuela and, welcoming and recommending this collection of samples, would like to read reviews or communications from others with better information.

5 out of 5 stars ¡Olé!.......2003-02-26

I know almost nothing about zarzuelas, other than that they're Spanish light operas, immensely popular in Spanish-speaking areas and virtually unknown everywhere else. Why they didn't travel and Viennese operetta did, I'll never know; they're a heckuva lot more exciting!

If this disc is any indication, the music, the rhythm, the overall feeling of zarzuela music is infectious. I put this CD on and then couldn't stop listening to it. According to the liner notes, these orchestral selections and choruses are among the best-known from this genre. I can see why they're popular. The playing and singing of the Comunidad de Madrid Orchestra and Chorus are exemplary.

Now please excuse me, while I go sign up for castanet lessons.

A long lost album from the outlaw side project of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider who is joined by ex-Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr and ex-Gillan guitarist Bernie Torme. Classic super-charged 80s metal!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Desperado - 'Ace' (Cleopatra).......2007-05-02

Some of you likely remember hearing about this Dee Snider project that was shelved way back when just prior to it's promised release by the head honcho at Warner Bros. Records. Turns out that 'Ace' is a pretty good early '90's hard rock effort by the Twisted Sister frontman. Tracks that had me sit up and take notice were the kick *ss in-your-face "Hang 'Em High", "Gone Bad", "The Maverick", the rocker "See You At Sunrise", "There's No Angels Here" (possibly the CD's best cut) and "Emaheeval". Personnel: Dee Snider-vocals, Bernie Torme-guitar, Marc Russell-bass and Clive Burr-drums. Should appeal to fans of Jackyl, Great White, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot and maybe early Motley Crue. 'Ace' was also put on the UK label Angel Air with completely different art work. Enjoy.

I purchased this several years ago in an outlet mall in North Georgia. Like all of Time Life's CDs, it is very good and has great sound. Make sure that you purchase the double CD, which has 32 tracks. You'll get several tracks each by The Byrds and Poco, along with great tracks by J.D. Souther, The Marshall Tucker Band and Mike Nesmith's "Joanne", which hardly gets any airplay anymore. A good buy, but remember to get the double CD.

As a roots fan, i actually HAVE heard this CD, and liked it. Its different, but not in a bad way. The quartet does a good job of staying true to the beats, and has a good selection of tracks. My only complaint is that the CD, which came out right after Phernology, is a bit heavy on tracks from that CD, and has fewer of the older classics.

If you like the roots, you will like this.

      1 out of 5 stars what!.......2005-04-15
