Adictive And Simply Beautiful........2006-12-03
It was "love at first sight"
So much so, that I thought that I would grow tired of it very soon.
Now, 10 years later, I think this is one of the most beautiful CD's I've ever listened to.
The simplicity makes it immediately likeable.
The baseline is a masterpiece.
Its brilliance and cleverness lets me enjoy it over and over again.
No other CD of mine has been played as often as this one.
my favorite album.......2004-07-16
I Love this album, it is my favorite one. Each song is a carefully crafted experience of the sounds of Africa. From the fantastic intro lulling you into the experiance, to the wonderful interweaving of human voices both male and female. Included you will listen to thunder showers, the animals, and insects, and rhythms, from the prehistorical world of Pangea. Even the sound of the African foriegn words is beautiful to listen to.
Child of Deep Forest.......2000-05-24
From the producer of Deep Forest, Dan Lacksman, this is a must for any Deep Forest fan.
Also see Wes, Dao Dezi, Michael Sanchez (all with Deep Forest connections)
Surprisingly Good.......2000-03-31
This CD was brought home as a bit of a gamble . . you can't always tell by the cover. Since it was first put on the CD drawer a week ago it's been played continually - I can't get enough of it. Reminiscent of Deep Forest, Enigma and plenty of other bands whose names escape me, it's haunting, beautiful, catchy, and addictive. I love it. I just wish I could sing along.
Derivative? Perhaps... Then again, so is Shakespeare........1999-02-09
Deep Forest did for African tribal melodies what Enigma did for Gregorian chants. It ushered in a fresh perspective on vocals that would have otherwise been uninteresting to the common public. Five years after its' debut, Deep Forest has now found a less mature but equally enjoyable companion - Pangea. Though Nay-sayers will consider this work "unoriginal", on the contrary, it's a delightful and inspiring album that maintains the spirit, wonder, and innocence of an early Deep Forest.
Listen and judge for yourself.

New Age Nirvana.......2000-06-23
This CD will remind you of Enya. Its got a lot of drum and percussion work in some songs, while others are flute solos with some background accompaniment. Combining high intensity pieces and smooth peaceful melodies in one collection, Pangea is a very dynamic CD and will make a great addition to your New Age collection.

Few songs are good.......2004-12-29
Though vocals arent needed...I enjoy track 01 & 12. I do not like rock. This album entirely aimed for electronica and rock. If you do not like rock or electronica, then back up. Though if you like sooth electronica remixed into rock...then try it out. The samples will give you a good slice of Electro Organic.
Interesting compilation.......2004-01-15
I bought this CD quite accidentally, but it turned out to be quite interesting. Tracks 1,2 and 12 are the most enjoyable, being the closest to dance-type music with strong tempo and good vocals. They are, however, more like the 80s music, somewhat similar to Depeche Mode or Alpha. Some other tracks, e.g. no 3, offer heavier rock, and another performance (no 6) sounds just like The Cure.

America's First SpaceRock Festival Features British Headliners Hawkwind & Nik Turner.......2005-10-09
Strange Daze '97 is an aural record of the first outdoor "SpaceRock" festival to be held in the United States. The headliners Saturday are Hawkwind, 25-year veterans of the outdoor music festival scene in the UK (who began their career by playing numerous free outdoor gigs- at times as a protest outside the fence of concerts where outrageous prices were being charge. Hendrix dropped by and watched the band at one of these). On Friday night former Hawkwinder Nik Turner headlined fronting Far Flung. He arrived on stage with crutches, the victim of a broken leg rumored to be from a motorcycle accident. The balance of the acts are primarily American with the exception of "Born To Go's" lead singer.
Strange Daze is a two disc set uniquely arranged. The first disc is pretty straightforward- one song from each of the bands arranged chronologically in the order they took the stage... with the exception that the headliners are saved until disc 2.
Disc 2 is a bit crazy. It includes 4 complete Hawkwind songs (at 23+ minutes) and 3 complete Far Flung with Nik Turner songs (at 10+ minutes). There are 5 complete songs by some of the other bands. Then there are excerpts from 6 of the songs on the first CD (totaling less than 12 minutes in length) and there is even 1 song (Bionaut's "Re-Laminate My Organ Donor Card") from the first CD that is repeated (almost) completely in a reedited form.
What do I mean by reedited? Well, the track begins on the second CD about 5 seconds later than on the original CD (mostly cutting off the unnecessary beginning of one long sustained synthesizer note) but adds about 15 seconds to the end! This makes it longer than the 'full' version on disc 1.
And all of the tracks on disc 2 are arranged in a superficially random fashion. So what is going on here?
The package does not tell us this but Dave Brock, founder and main force behind Hawkwind, helped produce Space Daze '97. As he is a bit of a self-proclaimed anarchist, that would be a simple explanation for us. A little too simple, as it turns out.
Listening to this disc several times I realized that what we have here is a 'stream of consciousness' recording. Hawkwind did not arrive until Saturday, but when they did Dave made it a point to walk around the Brushwood New York campsite and visit every group of campers. He wanted to know his audience. He recorded some of his encounters and in between songs, or snippets thereof, a few of these (and other recorded festival noises) have been spliced in.
"Hello there," you here Dave say.
"I love you" cries a female fan.
"I say, jolly nice!" Dave replies, before "Burning Inside" fades in over the conversation.
The disc is roughly chronological, but not exactly, the way one would remember a 2 day festival with lots of bands. The song repeated in its entirety twice, but edited in a slightly different fashion (and arguably edited to sound 'better' in Brock's memory on disc 2 than what it 'really' was on disc 1) samples Hawkwind's "Countdown" from a live concert aired over the BBC on October 14, 1972. Obviously one remembers things better if they relate to you personally, thus the song gets more emphasis.
Excerpts of songs seem to very from seconds to almost 4 minutes in way that seems to me to emphasize (via length) the songs that made the most impact on Dave. For the most part, the songs blend into each other or into snippets of conversation and festival noise with 2 exceptions. Following the Bionaut's song sampling Hawkwind is a retrospective silence and just before the Hawkwind 4-song set at the end of the disc is a long break I relate to, as it represents the time you blank out your surroundings and gear up for the stage. And then Hawkwind's set begins. Obviously over a third of this disc is Hawkwind- that's where the emphasis is in Dave's mind and without Hawkwind there would have been no SpaceRock festival! Nik Turner's set comes second, with 3 songs allotted to him, as Nik and Dave were bandmates off and on for years. And Turner actually did join Hawkwind on stage for a number of songs that August night, although on none presented here.
For the record, Drumplay did not have a stage set, but played for the bonfire on both Friday and Saturday nights following the headliners and members of Hawkwind did attend the bonfire. There is one thing I regret this set not including, and that is one of the numbers Nik Turner performed solo onstage after the final concert on his saxophone. As the lights went up fans were disappointed that Hawkwind only did one encore. As roadies began carrying equipment off the stage Turner came on with his sax, cast and all, and began to play- first without even a mike, but finally, after ten minutes, a roadie brought one up and he went through a few of the little tunes he does and at least one Hawkwind song ("Master of the Universe"?). He played a total of 30 minutes following the 90 minute Hawkwind set.
The concerts were taped on a 24 track machine by a mobile recording unit. Naturally, at least a few of the bands have bootlegs of their full concert floating around out there...
The set does not list the track order for disc 2 and the order given in the item description is wrong, so I have listed all the tracks on disc 2 and their times for you here:

2. (Gaia Avatara) Sunrise 1:22

I took a chance on getting into Pangea by reading a review which drew comparisons to Van Halen and Extreme, boy were they right, but Pangea are no copy cat band they have a lot of tallent and there own chops, I can only end by quoting the review that I read 5 years ago 'If you like Van Halen and Extreme get this'.

They just keep getting more exciting........2003-08-20
Babylonian Tiles captured my interest with their first CD release, "Basking in the Sun at Midnight". From there, each album has shown further development of their unique sound. I like to think of it as a psych-goth version of Phil Spector's "wall of sound". Teknicolour Aftermath is a great album, with swirling, full-sounding organ, deep, thick bass and laser lysergic-laden guitar complementing the classical splashes on the organ. And, the percussion, while never dominating, fills-out and drives the sound to give a very tight ensemble feel to the music. Above the wall of sound floats Bryna's exotic, haunting, mystical vocals and lyrics, with a touch of Middle-Eastern or Southeast Asian microtonal scales in the melody, bringing an element of world music to the psychedelic-Gothic sound. The punk elements found on their earlier releases have been transformed into more of a space-metal sound here. There are some re-recordings of earlier works but all have matured in the process. I hear touches of Bauhaus, Husker Du, Pink Floyd and Ultimate Spinach/Doors but never derivative of any other band. This is one of the more unique and accomplished ensembles recording in the rock field today and are well worth the listen for anyone interested in a refreshing approach to modern rock music.

Babylonian Tiles - Teknicolour Aftermath. Distort-O-Sound Records. This album is finally domesticated for your aural pleasure the ablum is also re-packaged, and re-mastered courtesy of Distort-O-Sound Records. This band has been around the block, several times, and pack a heavy potpourri of sounds full of influences, some obvious and not so obvious, into their albums. Their unique approach to their stylized experimentalism has created not only a cult following of space, psych, and progrock enthusiasts,Amboy Dukes, early Pink Floyd, and Ultimate Spinach, Babylonian Tiles have also captured the goth, or Darkwave enthusiasts, Bauhaus, The Chameleons, Kommunity FK, Sex Gang Children, or Christian Death. Teknicolour Aftermath is nothing new to the person who has nabbed their previous releases, although, their is a cover of Donovan's tune 'Season Of The Witch,' and a bonus track 'Going And Going Away.' The four tracks re-mastered in 2000 are: 'Boulevard,' Reason For Grey,' Far Far Away,' and 'Crystal Gavel. This band is very tight in the studio and also when they play live. Their musicianship or interaction with one another is complimentary to one another and is right on the mark. The tracks cut to the chase with no arduous solo either by Bryna's organ or Tim Thayers guitar, furthermore, Bryna's lyrics touch on sex, death, and happiness juxtaposed with her wit, charm, and depth. Bryna is captivating with her, Indian/Middle Eastern, approach to her vocals. Each track elegantly carries the listener to colorful places. This CD is a must for all music lovers. Babylonian Tiles - Teknicolour Aftermath, on Distort-O-Sound Records is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Dissapointing.......2001-09-18
I've been following this band for quite sometime. But this release is just not up to par with other music in this genre. The best way to describe Bab Tiles music is a dark carnival meeting space music. Sounds good but unfortunately this record doesn't deliver the goods. The production is really bad which makes this a very tough listen. Don't get me wrong I think this band has potential which they show on their previous Green Midnight Glow album BUT with Teknicolour Aftermath they went astray.
