Based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress opened in May 1959 and was a solid success, if not a huge blockbuster. It did well enough, in any case, to warrant a 1997 revival starring Sarah Jessica Parker. The show was far from revolutionary, but it provided a really fun vehicle for a cast of top stage personalities, including black actress Jane White, who played Queen Aggravain (a part originally written for comedienne Nancy Walker) in whiteface. But of course, Once Upon a Mattress's heart and soul was Carol Burnett, who, in her Broadway debut created the part of Princess Winnifred and delivered two of Mary Rodgers's best songs, the hilarious "Shy" and the spunky "Happily Ever After," which sounds a bit like Jule Styne at his most rhythmic. Burnett's timing and performance remain as sharp as they were 40 years ago. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

"Mattress" CD was excellent.......2007-01-09
I've really enjoyed this CD. I only wish the play was available on DVD.
an oldie but a goodie.......2006-03-15
Loved Carol Burnett then and love her now. This original cast CD is a lovely trip down memory lane.
Nothing like the original -- .......2006-01-30
No offense to any of the subsequent "Freds" but Carol Burnett OWNS this role. The recording is as fresh and funny as anything being done today and this is the version musical theatre fans should have in their library. Get it.
Awesome.......2006-01-22
My school did this musical last year (Spring 2005) and I had never heard of it before, so I bought both the Revial and the Original Cast Recordings. Fell in love. I was Sir Harry and loved both songs that I sang in. In my opinion, those are the two best songs in the entire musical, but then again, I'm biased.
Once Upon A Mattress OCR is by far the best out there. Don't get me wrong, the Revival Cast did a wonderful job (soundtrack at least) But There is something about Carol Burnett. She was meant to sing be Fred. But one thing that I didn't like is that "The Minstrel, the Jester & I" wasn't in this recording. But that is really the only problem I had with this.
My fav songs include:
In a Little While (because I sang it)
Yesterday I Loved You (again, I sang it)
Many Moons Ago
Shy
Would I recomend this CD? YES I WOULD!! I would shout it from the rooftops that people should by this CD! It's a funny, quaint little musical that people need to know about. I LOVE IT!
I saw the original on Broadway.......2005-12-19
Once Upon a Mattress was one of the first Broadway shows that I ever saw and I was totally mesmorized and laughed so hard that my side hurt. Carol Burnett was the perfect person to play Fred and it was one of those magical performances that stays with you for a lifetime. The original cast album captures the fun and spirit of the show.
Later during the run of the show a friend of mine joined the chorus and when we talked about the experience, he told me that the joy that was on stage was similar to that felt by the cast and that was apparent on the album. They especially liked working with Ms. Burnett as she was a giving and caring actress.
I recommend this album to anyone who wants to spend some time just feeling good.

A Tranquil Escape.......2002-06-02
I've had this CD since 1995 & I find myself returning to it often when things are upside down. The melodies are beautiful & I find myself allowing the stress to slip away easily when I listen to this CD. I must admit that Picasso's Guitars which is selection # 6 is my favorite. I can listen to it over and over when my stress level is high. I often times play this CD very low when I have dinner parties because it has such a calming affect on people and their emotions and many of my guests have purchased the CD after listening to it. I would recommend this CD to anyone who just wants to float on a cloud and the let the stress go. It is still one of my favorites after so many years.
A journey of gentle harmonies and heavenly vocals........2002-03-31
I just purchased this CD when traveling to northern New Mexico. It is always a challenge to visit the Taos area because it brings up so much emotion. This trip was unusally challenging, when I put in MANY MOONS and heard the incredible vocals of Susan Wasinger. The first selection, Sound of a Full Moon, I was instanty transported to a realm of peace and love. It just continued to nurture and support me thoughout the whole trip. I literally did not stop listening. I love this music. I am a massage therapist and own hundreds of healing music CD's, but this one is really special! In fact, I am on this website to look for more of there work. Plenitude is a selection that is my personal favorite. Tom Wasinger has the most gentle, loving voice. It blends like honey with Susan's angelic notes. Thank you for giving us this beautiful gift and for helping me when I really needed the support.

pH10 uses boiling breaks and a jolt of jungle to create a whole new experience in electronic music. They depart from established formulas by employing dub-style delays, avoiding tired arrangements and ditching played out samples for memorable original hooks.

Aural Enjoyment.......2002-01-10
Amazingly, this CD contains 10 tracks and they are all good.
I'm glad I was introduced to pH10- I am now a true believer.
Highly recommend it, very entertaining. Bubbly breaks, bass that makes your heart ache for bigger speakers...these guys are pioneers, and I bet they will continue to raise the bar in the future. NICE JOB!
I'm no particle physicist, but.......2002-01-09
pH10 investigates the inner structures of beats using
both phenomenological models and field-theoretic
approaches. This CD takes me on a colorful journey to the depths
of pure imagination. Along with fractional electric charge,
the cd also has flava in 6 varieties. It banishes the
classical idea of action at a distance. It can be said
that the breaks bounce between the drums and the bass
in such a manner as to draw the two together, making it
a force to be reckoned with. I envision this to bring the
world together on a subatomic level.
...Take that, space coyote...(i.e. this cd kicks butt)
can't help but shake it...!.......2001-12-20
lots of beefy bass... ffffat beats... samples that make me smile wide:)... arrangements for thinking people... ph10 is yummmmy d&b!
Spy Hunter.......2001-12-19
I guarantee you that this will be a single. It's tracks like this that will propel this CD and this genre of music to the main stream.
Keep up the good work.
Essential disc.......2001-12-11
This disc has something for everyone: edgy-but-catchy melody, deep rolling bass, groovy beats, and sneaky-cool samples. "2600 Funkus" is as fun as it is infectious, as is "Spy Hunter" with its shuffling funkified drums and retro melody. "Maize on" gets a bit more serious, but with tasty results. "Corpuscle" has that old-skool flava, but holds up well in todays D&B sets, a dancefloor kicker to be sure.
Quarks and Gluons is tightly produced and energy packed, I cant wait to hear what these guys do next.
